Capris opened her mouth to ask why he of all people would be tasked with finding a suitable punishment. It wasn’t like she was his responsibility.

Before she could voice the concern however, he quickly quieted her. A padawan following their master? Huh.

“You’re willing to lie for me?” Her brow furrowed in a subtle look of surprise, “You know I came here completely on my own accord. I don’t need you to halve the responsibility, even if it does get me a lighter sentence.”

She appreciated the gesture, more than she’d let on in fact, but she couldn’t shake the feeling she didn’t deserve it. After all, what had she managed to achieve other than one dead Sith spawn and another failed rehabilitation?

“You don’t owe me that.”

Kahlil_Div2.png

"It's not really a lie if you're my Padawan. So long as they don't ask when you became my Padawan." He shrugged. Didn't matter too much for him. Though he blinked, glanced her way. Was he asking him not to? Kahlil hummed in thought as they approached the shuttle. Waved a hand to open the door before stepping onboard.

"I don't. But when I joined the Jedi, the Master who helped me belong didn't owe it to me either. Just paying it forward. And you got guts. Which is as much a problem as it sounds like a good thing. I'll teach you how to temper that. If you want."

Capris Halcyon Capris Halcyon

Hold on. Did he just self-appoint himself as her Master?

She blinked at the man, watching him slip into his shuttle.

Her immediate surprise was followed by a flicker of indiscernible emotion. Excitement probably, but she wasn't all that in tune with her feelings. Still figuring she couldn’t just stand there dumbly, she followed suit and slipped into the seat next to him.

“You’re serious?” She quirked an eyebrow, testing the validity of his statement. Though she had a feeling he wouldn’t make an offer he didn’t plan on keeping. “I mean- yeah.”

“Yeah-
I’d want that.” To finally have some structured guidance when she’d otherwise been aimlessly searching for a place among the Jedi? Yeah, that sounded like a good deal.

Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble

"I had people who stuck out their neck for me knowing full well who I was, but I never had a master. It's an important part of being a Jedi, having someone who can help show you the path. So.. Yeah, I'm serious."

He glanced up only briefly from the controls to flash her a smile. Then it was right back to setting up the shuttle to lift from the ground. It practically jumped off the ground as he seemed to hurry with that part.

Yeah, sticking around wasn't going to do anything good. Especially with the feeling of hunger closing in. Likely another Sithspawn. They could come back later, after they talked to the Council.

".. Soo. You think of what kind of Jedi you want to be yet, by chance? Have an idea on what you want to learn most of all?"

Capris Halcyon Capris Halcyon

At his confirmation she smiled faintly, restraining the actual volume of her excitement. Whatever he meant by ‘who I was’ could wait. She’d push that revelation later.

For the time being however, she stayed busy mulling over the question he’d posed. What kind of Jedi did she want to be? It wasn’t something she’d honestly considered before. For the most part she was under the impression the Jedi just churned out the same righteous carbon copies.

“I didn’t know there were flavors.” Reclining to give a more serious response the girl looked up at the shuttle’s ceiling “Ah- I dunno I guess the heroic name-brand kind? All I’m really interested in is putting some good out into the galaxy. Haven’t exactly figured out the best way to do that.” It was something of a self-jab. Tossing yourself at every problem indiscriminately was typical of her, and more often than not a bad idea.

“As for what I wanna learn- Well you definitely had me interested with those runes of yours.” She tossed out the answer haphazardly. It wasn't a conventional Jedi skill, but he certainly put it to use. So at the very least it seemed worth a try.

Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Technically there's like.. Six 'flavors'? Guardian, Sentinal, Consular, Watchman, Seer, and Shadow. I don't really subscribe to one or another, but there are those to help give you an idea on what you can do as a Jedi. Oh, and Healers. So seven, I guess. Maybe more." He shrugged as he guided the ship ever upwards, leading the way towards the surface. Back to the temple. Wouldn't be immediate, but soon enough they'd get there.

".. Oh? Runes, huh? They take a lot of set up to actually use, though I suppose you could make talismans and such. It's.. Very much not normal to Jedi, though."

Capris Halcyon Capris Halcyon

The girl absorbed his words thoughtfully. She was admittedly still fresh in terms of Jedi training, lacking the common trivia most of her peers seemed born and raised in. Suffice to say, Jedi and their extensive lore was a relatively new fad for her. Though one she was nonetheless committed to learning.

"Duly noted." The padawan quipped, scanning the rapidly disappearing levels as they made headway. Quite mind-boggling how they managed to put it behind them so quickly. His comment about runes redirected her attention once more. Especially the point of them not being on brand for Jedi.

"Must be why I'm interested." The girl shrugged out an immediate response, "Not like I can learn something like that just anywhere." Maybe that was the core of her curiosity, just the novelty of it all.

Her line of questioning then seemed to shift. "Matter of fact, how'd you learn to use them?"

Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Mm. Don't feel like you have to be one of those specifically. But yeah. Starting points."

Might've helped him focus a bit more if he'd known about those kinds of paths, but that was his past now. Course, now he couldn't help but grin. Being curious about something relatively unknown and possibly forbidden?

She'd do great as a Padawan of his for sure.

"Can't give everything away right from the get go, yeah? Consider it something to keep ya interested. But I can teach you, for sure." He clicked his tongue before lifting a hand to trace out a different rune in the air. A simple snowflake design, hovering in glowing blue. "This one. Freeze. You can draw it on basically anything to freeze it. Make sure it's exactly like this, alright?"

Capris Halcyon Capris Halcyon

Her eyes flickered over the design, committing it to memory. Yeah she had to try this one out for herself.

Scouting for a surface, her sights landed on the adjacent window. An ideal test subject, though certainly less impressive than thin air. Careful to reference Kahlil’s initial sketch, her eyes darted back and forth, more or less eyeballing measurements. Unlike Kahlil however her marks left no trace of incandescent magic, just a rough smudge of fingerprints.

And at first that's all she thought her attempt would amount to. Baby steps. But her doubts were put to rest a moment later. Gradually the window frosted over, an icy sheen overtaking the glass. Not frozen per se but definitely chilled. That had to count as a win.

Alas, the victory might’ve been too great. Without warning a plume of snow erupted from the window, piling squarely onto her unsuspecting lap. Ah great. She dusted off her jacket with a slight wince, “That might've been overkill.”

Kahlil raised a brow right up as he glanced to the sudden snowfall. Blinked in surprise. Then let out a laugh. An actual laugh at that, not the little chuckles he'd been doing here and there. He didn't expect that of all things to happen. His silver eyes glanced down her way as he just grinned.

"Well, bright side is you can actually use that. It's pretty rare for people to be able to use runes. Anyone can draw em, but not just any Jedi can use em. That saves the whole test. Just be careful where you draw it."

He clicked on the com then, glancing through the list before punching in one in particular. Valery Noble Valery Noble .

"But, council. We'll go speak with Master Noble. She'll be the least likely to ask questions. Or most likely. Mm. too late, already called we'll make due." Soon as the line was picked up he'd give the Sword a smile.

:: Hey. Got a report for the Council. Meet you in their chambers? ::

<Hey Babe,> Valery began, her voice making it clear that she was happy to hear from him. Of course, she also had no idea that someone else was listening to their conversation, so she saw no reason to be overly formal in talking to her husband. <I'm in the Chambers at the moment handling some paperwork, so see you there soon. Love you~> she said with a sing-song voice before the comms cut and Valery returned to her work.

For several years now, the order has assisted the Galactic Alliance in the war against the Brotherhood of the Maw, and finally, some big steps were being taken. She was at the forefront of planning them, so it meant she was spending more time at the Temple again, away from the frontlines. It wasn't her preferred type of work because she favored helping people out in the field, both in the war and just within the Alliance itself.

But it also meant she was closer to her husband and daughter, which made up for it all.

Right now, though, she was working on a message she planned to send out to the entire order. Nothing too serious, but a few motivational words with Life Day coming up. Now, more than ever, it was important for the Jedi to stand together, and every little bit helped.

Despite Kahlil’s half-hearted reassurance, her stomach tightened at the mention of Master Noble. Now that’s a name she recognized. A big one at that. Was she really about to state her case the Sword of the Jedi?

Her anxiety over the matter was fleeting however, quickly replaced by a look of surprise.

Babe? Capris quirked an eyebrow, stifling a suggestive grin. Sure the Jedi were permitted to have attachments, but as far as she was concerned, they typically didn’t.

“Close with Master Noble are we?” Her grin widened a degree, a smug look inching across her face. “That’s gotta be a conflict of interest.” Not like she was about to complain though. In all likelihood it’d probably minimize the punishment on her end.

Kahlil just chuckled. Poor Valery, though maybe she wouldn't care that someone had heard her very.. Informal way of addressing him. He cast a glance to the Padawan. Yep. She was going to remember that. And probably make fun of him. Or her. One of the two. Or both.

"As the other Master Noble, I'd hope so. Husband and Wife should be close, right?" He quirked his own eyebrow as he met her gaze.

"Don't think she'll take it easy on you, though. Or me. She knows how to not mix interests." Grant it, his punishment might end up being something back home anyway now that he thought about it. While not technically lying, he had no impression that she wouldn't pick up on the whole little.. Omitted detail. Kahlil settled the shuttle down in the hanger before standing up. Glancing to the snow.

".. Yeah it'll melt. It'll be fine."

He shrugged and walked off. What was a puddle to the next person to use the shuttle. Hopefully it wouldn't make any issues.

"C'mon. Let's not keep her waiting."

Wait, he's not alone?

As the elevator came up towards the Council Chambers, Valery could easily feel her husband's presence, but there was someone else too. Someone she didn't recognize. She put a lot of effort into familiarizing herself with the Jedi of the Order she was trying to lead, so it was really strange. But judging by what she felt, it was likely a Padawan, so perhaps a new arrival? It would make sense why Kahlil wanted to report something to her, then.

It... also explained why he had been so unusually formal in his call. Oops.

"Heyyy," Valery said to him after the elevator reached the room she was in. She hoped that the Padawan hadn't overheard her being all lovey towards him, but it wasn't something to be overly ashamed of either. He was her husband, after all. "Glad to see you, and you brought someone I don't think I've seen before?" Valery got up from her seat and dipped her upper body into a respectful bow to greet the young woman.

"I'm Master Noble, it's a pleasure to meet you, Padawan...?" she trailed off, hoping to get an introduction in return.

As the inevitable drew closer, Capris felt like a bundle of nerves. She’d rather have dodged this confrontation completely but the window to rebuke was evidently closed.

So when the chime of an elevator signaled their arrival, she crossed the threshold without prompting, getting her first look at the famed Valery Noble. While not a shock by any means, her cheerful demeanor seemed to put the padawan at ease. Somewhat.

“Halycon-” She finished the women’s open-ended question, returning a curt nod that seemed a smidge too premeditated. “Capris Halycon. And likewise-”

Valery could tell that Capris was a bit nervous even without the Force, but it mostly faded when the conversation opened with both Masters feeling bright and relaxed. She didn't want any Jedi to feel nervous or intimidated around her, so she always made an effort to feel approachable. At least... once she had actually met someone in person.

Her gaze then shifted to Kahlil while he explained his reason for wanting to make a report, and the my Padawan bit got Valery's fiery gaze to narrow. Through their bond, but also just as his wife, she knew him better than anybody else ever would, so she had a feeling what was really up. "I wasn't aware that you had another Padawan, nor do any of our records." She seemed rather serious at first, but her lips curled into a grin while she maintained eye contact with him.

"I'll get that changed for you, and as for the Sithspawn, I do agree that it was risky." She looked at Capris for a moment, gauging her reaction. "But I assume the threat has been dealt with? Or do you believe more needs to be done?"

She was still being professional, but she was definitely going to interrogate him about why he hadn't told her about his new Padawan. He probably only just picked her up after a meeting down in the lower levels, but if he wanted to play innocent and make it seem like they were paired before that, she'd play the role of a wife who was left in the dark.

It was just too much fun to play these little games with him.

Valery plainly saw through his implication, taking it in stride. Though not before feigning disapproval. Capris hadn’t expected much backlash in regard to her impromptu apprenticeship, but the ease in which Valery smoothed it over certainly didn’t go unappreciated. Without missing a beat, she turned her attention to Sithspawn and Capris steeled herself in anticipation of some long-winded lecture. Fortunately for her it never came. Valery instead showing more interest in addressing the core of the problem.

Capris seemed to straighten a bit, “The initial Sithspawn has been dealt with, but- “Giving herself a brief moment to gather resolve, she doubled down. “With respect Master Noble, this isn’t an isolated incident. The scale of Sithspawn in the underworld warrants more coverage, and I’m not talking one-man expeditions.” Off handedly gesturing to Khalil, she continued on her emboldened speel. “I know we’re preoccupied. But if we let our home turf fall victim to the residue of Sith, what does that say about our capability to protect other planets let alone systems?”

In something of an ironic twist, she’d managed to be long-winded herself. Perhaps she was talking out of turn, but pent-up emotion tends to blind people to such things as social formality.

"Haven't had the chance to put it in with everything going on."

It wasn't a lie, so he just smiled a knowing smile. There was no hiding anything from her, not with their bond. But that was fine. He wasn't trying to hide anything from her. Just anyone else that might be listening in when they shouldn't be. He let Capris speak for the most part, glancing to her with a brow raised. One man expeditions? Technically yeah, but there were few Jedi in the whole order with more knowledge on Sithspawn.

"It's unfortunate, but the Sithspawn that we can easily find have been dealt with. The ones that remain are too deep in hiding, and only when they show themselves can we actually deal with them. We haven't been ignoring them. It's part of the reason I was trying to catch that one alive. To better figure out how to track them."

With a small dip of her head in Kahlil's direction, she acknowledged what he said and also moved on from it. The situation would have likely been different if Capris had gotten hurt, but she was alive and well. With Kahlil now officially as her Master, she also believed that it was his responsibility to correct and guide her. The Council would only interfere if the Master failed, needed, or requested help.

On the topic of the Sithspawn, Valery first listened to Capris before turning to Kahlil, "To give some context, about 7 years ago, the Brotherhood of the Maw attacked Coruscant and unleashed an army of Sithspawn into the lower levels. At the time, the Jedi and soldiers of the GADF responded and neutralized almost all of them," she began to explain. "This happened to be my first bit of action after my time in stasis." While not exactly important for the ongoing problem, her assistance there had sparked her joining the New Jedi Order.

"But Coruscant has about 5000 levels that span across the entire planet, so as I'm sure you can imagine, finding all of them isn't an easy task. Some have gone into hiding, and occasionally we are able to track them down and deal with them. But to scan the entire planet with manpower is... impossible." It would take an unimaginable number of people to find them all.

"Our priority should be addressing the ones we locate, and finding a method to more easily discover others in hiding. It was once my job to do so as a Jedi Shadow, but this problem is quite complex, so I have no solution either." She looked at Kahlil and let out a soft sigh. "I was hoping he'd find something I missed."
