Private Self-Destructive Tendencies

Kahlil grinned and nodded once. He reached into a pocket, plucking out a piece of chalk before handing her a stick of her own. It was different from usual chalk. It thrummed with the Force. Not much, but enough for it's use in what he was aiming for it. He drew a simple runic sequence on the ground, much like what she suggested. The frozen rune acting as a trigger and the focus for the effect. Simple, but effective.

"We'll put a couple of these around, then find a spot to wait. Might be a lot of waiting, so you'll have plenty of time to work on your runes, alright?"

Capris Halcyon Capris Halcyon

Inspecting the chalk with tentative hands, she stood idly by as Kahlil put her suggestion into action. It was gratifying in a way. Gratifying to have even a small grasp on this newfound fascination of hers.

"Ah-Yeah I'm not so good at waiting."
With a light-hearted exhale she moved to help Kahlil with the setup, her brow furrowing in sudden concentration as she tried to replicate his work. It was... sufficient enough.

Stepping back to admire their slapdash mural, her attention turned to finding a suitable hideout. Luckily the factory provided a plethora to choose from.

"How bout' we tuck away over there?" With a thumb pointed over her shoulder at a small den of durasteel she peered up at Kahlil. "Not exactly comfy, but we'd get a good visual."

"Patience is always the hardest lesson to learn."

Kahlil nodded sagely. It sounded wise in his head, at least. He nodded once to the small den, stepping his way over to it. Crouching to get through and inside. The disadvantage of height.

And he was one of the shortest of his species. He found a spot to sit and at least get comfortable before taking out a holopad. Idly started glancing through it. Mostly news feeds, trying to keep an eye on the surroundings just incase another attack was reported while they waited.

"Why do you want to be a Jedi, Capris?"

Capris Halcyon Capris Halcyon

Having settled down with a curious glance towards Kahlil's holo-pad, his question admittedly caught her off guard.

Why did she want to be a Jedi? Maybe most of her peers would have a clean-cut answer on retainer, but she found herself struggling. Mainly on gauging how honest she wanted to be with him.

"Well- I initially didn't care so much about being a Jedi as I did about having a place to stay." The admission was a bit sheepish, and vague. She wasn't sure how to go about revealing her background, "When I uh-first came to the Temple I mean."

Scratching her neck she pushed forward," I like to think that's changed, but I honestly don't know what I want from this. To help people I guess?"

"Helping people is always a good goal to have, being a Jedi or not. But a Jedi's life will always filled with danger. Turmoil. It's a life where you will face hardship, and loss." He kept scanning through for a moment longer before glancing up. Back towards Capris herself. Kahlil gave her a kind smile this time.

"I'm not trying to scare you. Just, you do have a choice. Everyone always has a choice. If there's anything I teach you, I want you to make sure it's that."

Capris Halcyon Capris Halcyon

It wasn’t the response she’d anticipated, but it resonated nonetheless. There were few moments in her life were she felt she had a choice. That she so much as a modicum of autonomy over her future.

Kahlil told her otherwise. Sounding almost self-reflective. What choices had he made?

The girl regarded him a moment, easing up.

“Then I suppose I choose this.” It was a level of introspection she rarely flashed, very quickly offset by a small smile and exhale. “I mean you turned out fine, right?”

Kahlil smiled at that. There was a single nod before he motioned to the paper.

"Good. Then get back to writing those runes. Once you can write them without looking I'll teach you a new one."

Literally, though. The Jedi master looked back to the tablet, still scrolling through. Very serious about that. It was probably the most important part of runework, especially if she wanted to quickly make a sequence. And like that he'd stay, keeping both an eye on the holopad and the trap they'd set up. It'd be a couple hours before movement. Brief, slow, in the distance.

He clicked off the datapad, shifting into a crouch as his eyes scanned ahead. He lifted a hand, pressing a finger to his lips first, then pointed ahead. It stalked out of sight, mostly. A single eye on it's forehead brightened. Focused as it watched the corpse. It slowly stepped forward and into the street lights above. It was the same type of creature as the last, large and imposing. Kahlil's jaw set after a moment before he whispered under his breath.

"Be ready to move."

Capris Halcyon Capris Halcyon

Smoothing out any creases with an open palm, the girl snorted.

"You sound like a school-teacher. Taking this whole Master gig seriously huh?" With a light grin her pencil returned to writing. Ferociously at that. She'd been the one to express interest in the first place, a little homework wasn't going to dissuade her.

Soon after, Kahlil motioned to her with a finger sealing his lips. There'd been movement -just out of range, though slowly encroaching. It was enough to wring a full, unrestrained smile from the girl who quickly moved to get a peek. From the look of it, the beast was almost canine, circling the carcass with tentative velvet feet. Off first impressions alone it certainly had more tact and grace than the original- more human-like qualities.

Not that it would matter in the end.

After what seemed like an appropriate amount of time spent scoping the terrain, the beast sniffed nearer and nearer until finally tripping the wire. Instant regret.

Panicked at finding itself immobilized the beast withered in its icy confines, no doubt attracting attention.

At the sight the girl tensed, ready to pounce when Kahlilso much as gave the word. It was a display of patience adverse to her whole person, but nevertheless she persisted.

Who knows. Maybe Kahlil was rubbing off on her.

The ice shot up and Kahlil moved.

Or at least, he had to have given he was suddenly beside the Sithspawn.

"I know. It's alright."

The creatures single eye stared around wildly. From the corpse, to the ice, to him. Fear, panic, rage, sorrow. A slew of emotions radiated from the wolfish creature as it raised it's hackles. Growled under it's breath. This close it was easy to see how much it actually dwarfed Kahlil. The other creature was large. This one, larger. So much larger. Kahlil slowly raised a hand. No sudden movements, just a calm exterior. And a sorrowful expression. Sorrow filled his eyes as he met the Spawn's gaze.

There was no more exchange of words. But slowly the creature stopped baring it's fangs. Let it's one eye close as Kahlil set his hand on it's snout. Then it fell over, out cold.

He let out a breath, glancing back towards Capris.

"Your trap worked. Lets get them back, call Master Valery."

Blinking at Kahlil’s sudden disregard for the laws of nature, she jogged after him. A bit hasty at that. It was only when Kahlil attempted to soothe the beast that Capris slowed her roll by the smallest of margins. As much as it felt like a victory, they had to show at least some nuance. The spawn was sacred.. uncontrollably so. And it was all because of them.

With a frown tugging at her lips, she watched from the sidelines as the spawn was lulled to sleep, her fiery curiosity a bit sobered. “How’d you manage to do that?”

Question aside, all that was left to do was ring up Valery. Which- compared to everything else on the agenda- was relatively simple. A brief trot back the shuttle and its console allowing them to do just that.

“Master Noble.” She began, her cadence far more weighty than typical. “This is Padawan Halcyon- We’re ready for extraction.”

"Master Noble." She began, her cadence far more weighty than typical. "This is Padawan Halcyon- We're ready for extraction."

<I'm on my way,> Valery said before she closed the comms and grinned. She probably could send any other Jedi to pick them up with the transport shuttle, but she had a dinner date with a certain Master Noble, so might as well bring him in herself, right?

After making it up to the Hangar level, Valery boarded the reinforced shuttle that would be capable of safely transporting just about any creature that fit inside. A containment cell had been brought in as well, so there was an abundance of safety precautions in place to keep the Sithspawn from escaping or causing harm.

Soon enough, the shuttle came down to their level and hovered just above the ground, not too far off from where Kahlil and Capris were standing. Valery watched them for a moment, and slowly turned the rear of the ship towards them, before making her descent. The ramp lowered, and by the time its doors opened, she was already standing there to greet them.

"Good job," Valery said, first with a nod of approval in Capris' direction, before winking at her husband. "I have made arrangements for it to be brought to a facility only a few systems away. The Sithspawn will be safe there, and you can do your best to look into changing what has been done to it."

"But it'll take some time for them to be ready. So I'll bring us back to the Temple, and the Sithspawn will be safely relocated there."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"No runes, not this time. Just empathy. You'll hear a lot that Jedi don't have emotions or that the Order tells you to suppress them. A Jedi who tells you that is wrong. All things feel. Even life twisted like this. Or perhaps especially. Understand their emotion, and learn how to act not because of them, but alongside them, and you'll be able to reach any mind." Grant it, it passed out because it was exhausted, not because he lulled it to sleep or such. Just that it felt safe enough to.

All it took was a little persuasion.

"We're not done yet though, not until it's loaded up. So keep your eyes peeled for the time being."

Until Valery arrived, that's what they were going to have to do. Now they had to stay here, guard the creature. Be ready in case something else came by. Nothing did, not until the shuttle came down. He turned his gaze, already knowing Valery was there. Gave her a smile.

"That works for me. .. What's for dinner, anyway?" He paused, glancing towards Capris for a moment.

"Think there's room for one more?"

Ever the teacher, Kahlil’s words were met with a subtle look of admiration. Yeah, he was exactly who she wanted to bank her trust in. This was the proverbial wisdom real Jedi were made of. She wanted to embody that, and he certainly got her a step closer.

“That’s- refreshing.” The conflict that wormed into her expression seemed to ease a bit.

So, it was with an equal blend of surprise and eagerness the girl looked towards Valery for confirmation on Kahlil’s final remark. Dinner with the Nobles? Shit, name a better way to spend your evening.

“Well- I wouldn’t want to crash your guys’ dinner date.”

She would. She very much would. But all things came subtle to her. Capris wouldn’t dare impede unless Valery gave her explicit permission.

"I'm trying a new recipe today, so you'll have to wait and see," Valery teased with her usual smile. She loved cooking and trying new things, even if Vera sometimes whined about it. But it was all worth it when she did find something new that the whole family loved.

Her gaze then shifted to Capris when Kahlil asked about room for one more, and while she seemed to want it, she was also hesitant about changing up their plans. "Oh nonsense, we'd love to have you over for dinner," Valery quickly assured her. Every single one of their Padawans was 'obligated' to join them for dinner at least once.

So Valery could show off her cooking, of course.

"He gets more than enough alone time with me anyway." She grinned and gestured with her head for them to follow her inside the ship. Authorities were already on their way to secure the Sithspawn, so they could focus on the relatively short trip home.

"I don't think the idea of it was an actual date, yeah." Was it a date? He glanced briefly to Valery. At least she was up for it. Right, ask ahead of time instead of just dropping it out of nowhere. Eventually he just chuckled and got up into the shuttle.

"Good, good. Make sure they keep it sedated. I think it's in constant pain from what was done to it." Then he paused. Glanced to Valery with a raised brow. And chuckled.

".. Anyway, I'm sure Vera would like to meet you." His gaze shifted to his Padawan, giving her a grin all over again. "Just don't think about her visions too much."

"Visions?" With a brow raised, her gaze flitted between Valery and Kahlil before melting into a look of incredulous amusement. "Yeah- I think I'd want to meet her too. Sounds pretty on par with the rest of the family."

Sword of the Jedi, reformed son of a Sith Lord, and a daughter with supernatural abilities? Yeah, just your typical nuclear family. No biggie.

At Valery's suggestion, she ducked into the Sword's ship, not so emboldened to try her hand at any runes this time around. She'd quite possibly hit her limit on property damage for the day.

Valery had noticed his eyebrow raising, and just smiled innocently in his direction. Her comment had, of course, meant absolutely nothing beyond the fact that they were married, so spending time together was completely normal. With that clarified through her smile, she boarded the ship and made sure that both Capris and Kahlil got seated.

"Oh yeah, she loves meeting new people. I'll warn you though, she's very... energetic."

Probably not too strange if she knew anything about Valery as a kid. Luckily, she didn't, but Valery preemptively narrowed her eyes in Kahlil's direction to keep him shushed.

Soon enough, their ship landed on the platform attached to one of many tall skyscrapers. Their apartment was nothing special, but it was home, and that's all that really mattered.

"Alright, I'm going to start making dinner. You two relax."

Kahlil_Div2.png

On par with the rest of the family?

Kahlil raised a brow in thought, but didn't actually say anything. He wasn't too sure what to make of it. Valery was one thing, Sword of the Jedi. But he was among the other Jedi Masters, right? He hummed. Ah well. Something to figure out later.

Once they arrived he motioned to the couch.

"Feel free to make yourself at home. It.. More or less is, I guess? Valery's Padawan's tend to treat it that way, so I don't see why mine can't."

"Oh yeah, you're always welcome here," Valery assured her after Kahlil motioned to the couch. Her Padawans all regularly visited, and even friends almost felt at home here. As long as it never fully compromised their privacy, Valery would never be bothered by it.

With that said, she retreated into the kitchen and began to prepare everything for cooking. But as was to be expected, their presence and voices did not go unnoticed. Quick footsteps approached from down the hallway, and Vera practically came running into the living room.

"Daddy!" She started, and even thoug Capris was right there, she ran up to her father and hugged herself around his leg. She had never been afraid to show her affection around others, especially not for her parents.

"Hey sweetie~" Valery sang from the kitchen, and Vera quickly looked over. "Had a good day?"

"Mhmm!"

div-green.png
It took a fair bit of self-restraint not to gawk at as they ascended to- and promptly entered the Noble's residence. Valery's assessment had truth to it, the place was simple and homey. But nonetheless a far cry from the social strata Capris typically slummed through.

To both Valery and Kahlil's invitation the girl nodded. They wanted her to consider this place home? It was enough to spark some warm feeling in her chest, prompting an almost subconscious smile to itch the corners of her mouth. Then without warning the third member of the Noble family came barreling into the foyer, latching her to Kahlil's leg. Vera.

Capris blinked at her unceremonious entrance, amusement weaseling into her expression.

It was then she realized the girl would require an introduction. One she'd have to facilitate. Ah, right. How do you go about approaching kids again?

The girl cleared her throat, waving a hand kept a smidge too close to her body. "Uh hi there- Vera right?"
