OOC Notes and Plot:
Concept:
The planet is uninhabited by sentient life and is in a good position for pirates. A group of these, breaking off from the now defunct Hutt Cartel, have set up a space station and operations on the planet. We move in and take them out.

Simple, right?

Well, it turns out all the activity has awoken some Gargantelle, the supposedly extinct natives of the planet from a stasis chamber. Enraged at the state of their planet, and unable to tell Coalition from Hutt, they attack and need to be either negotiated with or defeated.

  • In space: Anyone wanting to do some Starfighter battles are welcome to join me as we drive them off and attack their station. If anyone would like fleeting training I would be happy to assist.
  • On the ground, this story can go several ways and has several parts.
First we land and engage the pirates and setup a defensive base.
  • Second the Gargantelle arise and need to be either negotiated with or destroyed.
  • Third we need to complete the defences.

Overall, this is a PVE dominion, but I feel it has enough different parts to keep things interesting.
(Though feel free to create your own stories too!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMJxYldQAnA

With the collapse of the Hutt Cartel, and the looming threat of the One Sith, the Silver Coalition had decided that it was time to prepare for an inevitable showdown.
A world to defend was considered best, and better still if it was uninhabited. That way the defence of the planet would not be undermined by having to protect civilian populations, and nor could the civilians be used against them as hostages.
Boz Pity seemed a perfect location. It lacked sentient life, was easily defensible, and was in a crucial location.

However, a minor wrinkle had developed in this plan; the planet was not entirely uninhabited.
Pirates, free of the Hutt’s control, had taken up base on the planet.
A large sprawl of ships and buildings lay at the bottom of a canyon, protected on the heights by several heavy laser cannons.

6fzckx.jpg

Any direct attack on the pirates would require these clifftop turrets to be disabled.

Meanwhile in space, no sooner had the Coalition forces begun to land when the sensors detected a large force of pirates returning from a raid.
Swiftly the Coalition fleet moved to intercept and protect the transports.

Pirate Base Ground Objectives:
  • Take out clifftop turrets to allow landing forces closer to the pirate base. There are 4 such turrets protected by pirates with blasters and vibroblades.
  • Land at the head of the canyon and attack the pirate barricade. They have e-webs, mortars and blasters etc. Feel free to use whatever vehicles or equipment you wish.
  • Come up with some other means to attack them! Let your imagination fly.

Pirate Space Forces
  • Pirates have several corvettes, two frigates and several squadrons of Starfighters.
  • Coalition has the same number of corvettes, frigates and Starfighters ready for action. Nantaris’ personal ship is present too.
  • Feel free to take command of a Coalition ship or fly a Starfighter into action! I will be conducting fleeting training for anyone interested.

Feel free to (reasonably) dispose of NPC pirates. Do not wait for permission from me! They are merely stage one of the thread.

Please number all your posts. Each person may post up to 25 posts.

Do not take the total above 100 posts in the thread! Continue your stories in other threads at your leisure. Failure to comply will lead to sanction by faction staff.

X-Wing vs Ground Base - p1

Kataow Kataow Kataow

That was the sound of the pirates ground base cannons engaging the air. Like artillery, the boom was grand and terrible. Again and again, and again. Robert's pulled up on the stick of X-Wing Recon C as her R2 unit filled her HUD with colors. Brilliant lines and dots of information. Saving the flashing red lights and targeting computer for the pirate's fancy towers.

"I'm bringing us back around. Find those edges R2, so I can skirt them."

~ Dweee. Do dab' biddle biddle. ~

"I can see that. Just watch those towers."

...

Boom Boom Boom. Her shields whined with shaken terror as the tiny vessel got well too close to the kill zone. It only took a few close calls to see that one ship wasn't going to cut it against four guns all at once. Especially with that rate of fire. Any eager pilot with half-a-brain could see that her titanium plating was already well on it's way to becoming dark and crispy. Shields and all.

But Karen Roberts wasn't just any eager pilot and this Incom XR Custom wasn't just any vap-smoking pushover. Oh no. It had a few new surprises for these pirate pansies that were all it's own. The customized Swivel Turret on top her vessel turned quickly to face the nearest pirate cannon as her ship remained on a wildly evasive course. Giving her the 360 degrees of freedom that she needed to punish that cannon mount in return, while her frantic flying did the rest. Crazy? Sure. Effective? Maybe. ...But that was besides the point. At least it gave those pirate's giant toys something else to shoot at other than landing shuttles for a change.

"R2. I'm going around for another pass. Evasive pattern Echo One. So fire at that tower when I bring us in range. You're gunner this time. Make me proud son."

~ Dwee dwee. Biddle biddle dooo. ~

"At a boy."

She smiled and lined it up for another shot at glory.

...

Kataow Kataow K... Frap frap frap frap frap frap. Kaboom!

Her X-Wing came soaring over the cannon as it exploded into a plume of glorious white flame. Whooosh! And ka'plow! Sending the local pirate crews jumping and throwing in for cover. Boom baby. Solid kill. Haha. ...Way to go R2. Yeehaa!

Robert's shields whined and flashed red against her console. Like fireworks at a Kesharee Wedding. Damn. Reminding our blue-haired pilot that each attack run her little vessel made against those guns brought her deeper into their explosive range. Boom, indeed. Causing the incoming flak to shred hard against her shields and flash white plumes of hostile energy against her darkening canopy.

Kataow Kataow Kataow. The other cannons reign of terror continued. Fine. One down. Three to go. ...Meanwhile. With the pirate's big guns busy, the SSC landing craft where free to approach to maximum safe distance unmolested. A short, and perhaps a little short-sighted, reprieve from bombardment.

Karen could only smile and pull strongly against the stick. Heh. Here we go again. Cue the music flyboy.

Outskirts of Cliff Top Guns
Post 1

What a beautifully uncompromising piece of rock layed before the small team of Scouts that had been assigned to take out the second laser battery. Truly a more time consuming obstacle couldn't have found it's way between the Jedi and their targets. Added in with a brutal, uncharacteristically warm day for an already arid region, created a perfect environment for near vertical climbing and pirate hunting. If Solomon had a tongue to complain he might have considered doing so. The team had dropped in underneath radar cover and after an arduous hike followed by a game of "Did a lookout see us", finally got in position at the base of the cliff. One of the towers burned brightly on approach, courtesy of a Flyer.

Solomon still hadn't gotten used to wearing Jedi garb yet and the grey robes looked a bit out of place with his sunglasses. The team moved quickly and silently as they attached their climbing spikes and linked up. While Solomon, who lived in a world of perpetual silence, wasn't particularly bothered by it, the vibes of some of his comrades told other tales. One mistake could mean the difference between life and death for the entire group. If one slipped on a rock or the lead got made at the top, there'd be a few more funerals for folk to attend by week's end. Couldn't blame anyone for feeling the metaphorical heat under those circumstances.

They began. Eyes upward and onward under the gaze of the all seeing magnet.

Solomon's vibroknife shifted on his belt as he began his ascent on semi stable footing.

He tried not to think about it as his spike manual slide itself into the clifface at the press on a button.

This train never stopped and she was looking at all of it, attention on some of the things while she was bringing in for shoring up defenses the factory ships would be able to set down in the cradles. The factory ship itself along with two support seeder ships , some of the sakura medical ships designed to provide mobile and plantet side hospitals stocked with healers and supplies to help them on the ground while the jedi master was looking over some of the things they had and could bring out to help them. She was working to get the finishing touches on the ship so it would be fully built and worthy. Her robes going over her when she sat on the one seat. Letting the heavier hitters clear the path while the droids could work quickly to set up the rapid deploying cradles for the ships to land and start operations.

Preparing defenses

Her mother was here and there was plenty to do to stay busy as she looked over some of the things. her job was to once they were on the ground start installing and working on this. The crystals they were working on with the different sections of things. She could work to hopefully let it produce a shield with the thankfully increased power they had been working with. All of researchers working on it as they were focusing on modifying the crystal for use on the planet. They were working on some of the things to make it smaller and more for teams and a single person to be able to use as she stood there. Attention on some of the things now, she was directing them with where to go and set up the things. her hands touching the saber on her hip and thumbing the small crystal on her necklace.

Canyon Runs, who doesn't love 'em?

It had been a long while since Kurayami had been inside a starfighter, but to say that part of him missed it would have been an understatement. He missed the thrill of the high speed, low altitude flying. This was going to give him the chance to do so again, and with return fire! Most people would have been disappointed that there were defenses set up along the ridge of a canyon, but this was where he thrived. Besides, he had built a brand new fighter some time ago and never had broken it in in combat. Now was as good a time as any he supposed.

As he made his way to the target area, he dialed in the weapons one more time, setting the convergence to just over 100 meters out. He had the twin autoblasters fire-linked so all four would fire at the same time, the chin mounted heavy laser cannons fired at a much slower rate and traded off between each barrel, and of course there were the two proton torpedo launchers with a magazine of 3 each, one either side of the heavy laser cannons those were as needed no set firing cycle.

The HUD of his helmet was streaming a huge amount of data from how the shields and hull were holding up, to the status of weapons and their levels of heat in addition to all the standard data such as airspeed, altitude, heading and targeting data. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, it was like being home in a sense for him. He remembered similar infiltration flights with Aquila squadron, with 4 on his wing. The planet was fuzzy, but he knew that the decision to split up into two flights had been made and that he was going home as long as 4 was there. In many ways she had been a younger sister to him and the flash of memory brought a sad smile from the pilot as he entered the mouth of the canyon. First pass was high speed, scan for any lower level defenses than what had been reported as being on the cliffsides. Second pass would be the beginning of the fireworks. Right now, he was just below the rim of the canyon allowing for sensor readings both below and along the ridge itself. The wings were currently locked vertically so there was less chance of hitting the walls.

He fire-walled the throttle, chuckling slightly to himself as the ground blurred below the fighter. Weaving through the tight turns of the canyon required constant changes to throttle settings and either drops or slight rises in altitude. There were more than a few close brushes, but no structural damage. He had marked th hot zone on his map where the defenses were known to be and so far no lower level defensive surprises had shown up. There seemed to be some minor patrols of infantry. There went the element of surprise. He knew that soon there would be a bit more resistance to his recon flight through here. As he neared the end of the canyon he caught sight of a barricade set up to keep ground forces out. They would be fun to take out here in a few. Time for a bit of fun to put some fear in the hearts of these pirates.

He extended the S-foils, the wings spreading out into an 'X' and rotating them back to horizontal as he dropped down to a couple meters above the barricade. The paintjob was one that some of those present had seen before, he was sure of that much. The squadron was legendary in their heyday the mottled light and dark grey camo patttern was not unique in and of itself, the sand yellow pattern of the underside of the fuselage the underside of the topside wings and the tops of the lower wings and the wingtips was. Displayed in the same sand yellow color in large block numbers was the outline of a '013', this could be found on all four wings.

He was far lower than most pilots would dare to go in pursuit of just scaring a few pirates. The ship rocketed back skywards as he pulled around in a tight Immelman. As he brought the cockpit back upright he noted that one of the four defensive turrets was out of commission. Now was time to get serious. He flipped the safety off on his autoblasters and heavy laser cannons. For now he locked the wings into horizontal position. After doing so it was very clear he had the undivided attention of both those on the ground and the nearest turret. Perfect. Thank the Force for thrust vectoring, it would give him enough maneuverability to evade the lasers, for the most part. The ground defenses didn't have the elevation to hit him currently but would within a second or less. Granted they were meant for anti-infantry but could take a decent chunk out of his shields if they hit him enough. His focus was on the turret for now though.

Squeezing the trigger, he let loose a barrage from the blasters towards the turret, weaving side to side and utilizing rapid changes in altitude to throw off the shots. There were a few solid hits and minor grazes, shields down to 90%. He brought the fighter up and over in a inside loop. He kicked the pedal hard to the right, causing the fighter to drift and began to roll to the right and pulled back on the controls, as he began a descent towards the turret, flipping the safety off on the torpedoes, he loosed one towards the turret along with a long burst from the cannons. Leveling out he inverted the fighter and pushed forward on the controls to bring the fighter into an outside loop, gaining altitude and losing some airspeed in the process. Two turrets down and two to go. Also maybe a good time to let his allies know he was here.

He flipped the comms channel to the open SSC channel.

"Afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Kurayami Bloodborn reporting for duty. I'm on station, took out one turret and am available for aerial support if needed. Just let me know where I am needed. Whoever killed the other turret, nice work. Aquila 13 out."

She drifted outbound-and-down from the pirate cannon's long range. Pulling her fighter into a long winding arch and slowly bringing it back around. It gave her time to check her computer again and notice the changes in the color settings. Okay. New dots. Let's review. There were commandos engaging the towers now from below. Sappers. That was good. Ah, and she had an assist too. By what her computer registered as an independent IFF. R2 marked the com chatter over the broadband with the callsign notation, Aquila 13. Interesting. Well then... Time to weave these fibers together and pop some towers. Just like old times. She hit the com channel barking,

"Aquila 13. This is SSC Shadow, Escort One. Thanks for the scratch pilot. However, be advised that we have friendlies moving on the base of the cannon mounts. Watch that FF while engaging..."

~ Dwoo dweep! ~

"Roger that R2. I'm coming around for another pass and then see what our sappers decide to do. My lane is coming in from the northwest. Full circle and wild. So, we'll see you on the other-side for cheers and beers. SSC Escort One out."

She smiled and pulled hard on the stick. Letting the wind buffet against the glass and her droid rolled his head for a better view. One more pass at the northwest tower. Then it was up to Solomon and Bloodborn to finish the cannon job. Pew pew pew.

Well, now they told him there were friendlies in the area. At least they did fill him in, so he would have to adjust for that next go round. So be careful with the torps, and probably a good idea to be a bit more careful with the blasters as well, those tended to hurt if they hit infantry as well. Easy adjustment to make in the end. Listening to the voice on the other end, he opened his channel again.

"Roger that SSC Shadow, Escort One. I was unaware we already had boots on ground, will be sure to keep my shots better grouped than on that last run. We got a nice barricade and what looks like a shanty town near the canyon. Not entirely sure about resistance within, but I would guess they aren't our biggest fans. Especially after I buzzed them earlier. Aquila 13 out."

He was quick to note the position of her ship after the ping was sent, he was a bit south of her position, and picked up a ping not too far from his position heading towards a tower a couple clicks away, if needed he could clear that in no time. He leveled out at his higher altitude and gave his sensors a moment to recalibrate and process new info. Looked to be clear for the moment. He knew though that was not going to last, buzzing the ground forces as he had would probably attract the attention of at least a few of their pilots.

It wasn't long before his suspicion was confirmed. It was only a couple fighters but that wasn't what worried him. It was a standard fluid two formation. That gave them a couple of engagement options if these were hostiles. they could go into either a pincer attack or a posthole attack. Neither one would be a good thing to say the least. He sent an IFF ping and received only silence in response. Opening a comms channel again he alerted all nearby units of the development.

"All units on alert, we have two incoming bogey aircraft. On my 1 and 3 o'clock. Unable to con..."

He was cut off by enemy fire pelting his shields.

"Aircraft confirmed hostiles, engaging. Will return to ground support once I have a clear picture."

Instead of his usual sign off, he simply closed the comms channel, kicked hard left on the pedal before rolling towards the direction of the drift again, easing off as his nose dipped below the horizon. He pulled back as hard as he could, they wanted a fight, he'd be happy to oblige. First thing was first was to break the formation advantage they had. He had a good turn rate but the sheer thrust to weight ratio of his craft was a major puls, meaning he would have vertical advantage. As they rounded for another head on pass, he pulled up, rolling inverted at the top of his climb and using slight left rudder to push his craft into a slight angle off slash. He dove at the trailing fighter of the formation raking it's shields with blaster fire. it wasn't enough time to disable them completely but it was enough to shake the pilot enough for him to break formation. The hostile Z-95 pulled into a tight right turn. No matter what he did, he couldn't match that sudden of a turn, so he leveled out as soon as he could and went vertical. The -X-13 clawed for altitude, and lured the Z-95 that had broken off right towards him. He shifted his shielding aft for the moment as he neared a stall. Shifting shields back to full coverage he smirked as the Z-95 had attempted to level out and counter the wingover. it was too late as his nose swung around, he slammed the throttle forward and pulled up, taking a snapshot at the canopy of the enemy fighter to his front. Missed. Tagged one engine though, minor damage though it was smoking. The flight lead had repositioned behind Kurayami by this point right now he had one at his 6 and the other on his 12.

It was not a position most would think of as a good place to be with only 75% shields remaining. This was a classic move though, high risk, but high reward as well. He began by kicking hard left and pulling up and to the right, as soon as fire was incoming. Dropped his shields to 72% from the few hits he too, but the lead was a moment too late letting off of the trigger, and took the wing of his friend clean off, sending the one on his 12 spiraling into the canyon below. He continued to roll up over the top, pulling back into a descending left turn as he came past full inverted. he even out his wings and headed back down into the canyon, hoping to pull the Z-95 into a small space, where he could force him into a vertical fight. This was not going to be an easy win, but damned if it wouldn't be fun.

Now just to wait for the naturally pissed lead element to follow him in.

Standing on the bridge of one of a Viligance class frigate, Nikias kept his arms tucked behind his back as he looked on at the crew before him that were operating their stations. Hands flew over control panels and the tapping could be heard by Nikias from where he stood. The usually calm Hellyni projected a regal presence on the bridge as he strode back and forth looking at the tactical display before him. Ships had left the hanger and were going down to the planet transporting troops and providing air support. It was supposed to be a simple mission is what Nikias had been told. He didn’t know why he believed it, more than most people he should’ve know it wasn’t going to be that easy. Battle never was, one could plan out every step of a battle and have it all thrown off by one attribute they had failed to take account of.

The sensors of the ship picked up the signals of the pirate ships arriving in system, and as the alarms began going off Nikias commanded them to be shut off. He’d been in only a handful of navy battles in his life, suffice to say they had been losing battles. Partially because Nikias focused more on ground combat, and because he was fighting the Attikan’s who specialized in such combat. Sighing Nikias tried to collect himself falling back on his teachings at the Voss temple. Slow breathing calmed him slightly but his hands still gripped tightly around the railing. Nikias knew it was important to keep his exterior calm so as to not decrease the moral of his people so he kept his calm exposure and tucked his hands once again behind his back. “Move to engage, and open a line to The Liberator.” Nikias said looking at the tactical readout and taking stock of the enemy ships. If he was going to be of any use he was going to need a bit of help and he knew no one better to ask. at his command the ships crew kicked into gear and somehow began working faster than they had before. if the pirates break through our forces on the ground will be in danger. nikias thought as his ship had been delivering one of the ones delivering the transport ships. while others in the silver sanctum would think this easy, nikias was stressed by it due to his track record in naval combat.

Nantaris was studying the same arrays. The Coalition has more ships available, but only those in position right now could move to intercept.
“Sir, message from the Intrepid,” Myr called. The Intrepid being the frigate that Nikias was commanding.
“Ah, the Princeling. Put him through,” Nantaris said. “Nikias, we’re moving in to engage. The frigate Incisive is on your flank. Engage the enemy frigates, I’ll provide support and flak.”

As the two fleets came together it was key for Nikias to remember his role. The Vigilance class were armed with heavy weapons for disabling escorts, but very few defence weapons to protect from fighters or bombers. Thus, it was imperative that it be supported by the Frontier class corvettes which would be taking flanking positions. They could easily see off enemy fighters with the support of the Coalition fighters, but would struggled to hurt the enemy frigates.

Mission accomplished – the pirates knew someone was coming! With two turrets down the remaining two focussed all attention on the buzzing fighters, opening a heavy, though somewhat random, fire on them.

Down in the valley, the pirates knew something was going on and manned their wall. Little did they know that their doom was coming in the form of Team Natural Disaster!

Landing further up the valley was an assault force assembled from the Coalition’s best. Among those was Tempest, leading a company of Firemane troops, supported by armour and light artillery.

“All troops, move forward, use cover and don’t be a hero. I’ll provide some cover.”

Calling on the Force she summoned a wind to whip up some dust to block the pirate’s line of sight to their targets, even if just for a while.

Objective: Turn walls to bridges
Post: 1

The drop from hyperspace was fairly basic, he just had to make sure he didn't crash into any of the other vessels also reverting. Warships, medical ships, supply ships...all were present and going their way. For his part, Audren headed down into the planet's atmosphere with the other attack craft. He made no attempt to try and catch up with the faster fighters, instead holding back and watching their attack runs. What he witnessed showed in exquisite detail the differences between someone who flew and someone who piloted.

He was constructive with the spare time: he formulated a plan of attack. Reconnaissance fliers reported a barricade at the head of the canyon: strong walls, heavy armed presence. Well-positioned to put a halt to oncoming armies and ground forces, and the turrets above would protect against fighter and bomber encroachment. Except the turrets above were slightly busy. Two were destroyed, the other two were tracking fast-moving starfighters and trying to shoot them from the sky. Meanwhile, Audren's Hathol came in low. He had missiles, but those were overkill. Mass drivers and laser cannons would do the trick nicely. While E-Web and blaster bolts sparked against his forward shields, repeating guns retaliated by sweeping across the top of the wall. The E-Webs had their own shield generators that had apparently held up to the barrage.

Then came the heavy guns.

The Sephi tried to focus on the emplacements, but he'd really intended to use the guns to punch holes in the walls. Two, maybe three or four of the guns were eliminated by the time he walked his fire to the main gate. That he gave a few long seconds of a barrage before hurling two of his six missiles at the joints. If that didn't soften up the barricade then outside of a turbolaser he didn't know what would.

On a whim, the Knight shifted the balance of the Hathol's repulsorlifts to the rear, elevating the aft of the fighter just a bit. It started drifting forward with subtle taps of the thrusters, and once he was over the wall he could see the ranks of mortars prepping for oncoming soldiers. Once again his repeaters blurred to life, chewing through targets on the ground. Then he brought the nose and thrusters up and moved out of the canyon. It was time to find a suitable landing location and join the boots on the ground.

One could argue about Jedi using starfighters against combatants on the ground, especially those who had little chance to truly fight back. For his part, the Sephi operated under the assumption that those same combatants would have fought to the death and made the Coalition forces pay for every meter gained. In terms of pure numbers this option was better, fewer lives were lost. Additionally, he hadn't used the Force to target the fighters, just the vessel's systems. Morally, the distinction made all the difference.

Taldir wasn't here, which in Elpsis' opinion was a big plus because goldielocks was terribly dull. Truth be told, Elpsis' didn't have that big an ideological problem with corsairs and similary piratical scum since she'd hung with a few. However, she'd decided to tag along because she'd been promised loot and XP. Besides, Tempest was there and they got on.

Anyhow, on with the plot. Firemane dropships had spat out a large number of heavily armed soldiers and armoured vehicles. At the Storm Princess' command, a wind came into being and whipped up columns of dust, obscuring their approach for their time being.

The wind howled, salvoes of blaster fire and volleys of mortar shells fired blindly from the pirate barricades. Keeping close to Tempest while she advanced onward to take advantage of the pirates' brief disorientation, Elpsis tried to focus amidst the massive noise being generated. Fortunately she'd become a bit better at controlling her empathy, so the swirl of emotions that accompanied a battle gave her less of a headache. She was also less likely to scorch herself with her own pyromantic antics.

Heat spread like wild fires across her body as she called upon the Force. From the palm of her hand came a small flame that grew in size and intensity. Taking a breath, she hurled the fireball across the distance towards the enemy gun emplacements. The effect was a beautiful explosion when the fireball conveniently struck a stockpile of shells, vaporising or igniting unlucky corsairs.

Splitting his attention between the tactical display and a datapad in his hands that had schematics for the Vigilance class vessels Nikias absorbed the information like a sponge. He once again felt like that rookie who had been shoehorned into commanding his father’s forces. Oh how many lives had been lost that day. Not wanting a repeat of past incidents Nikias planned on pouring his all into commanding the vessel that had been entrusted to him. What I wouldn’t give to be commanding ground forces. Nikias thought as he took stock of the enemy positions.

They were heading into a head to head engagement which made the tactics easier to decide, but Nikias didn’t want it to devolve into a pure slugfest between the pirates and his ship. Left to much room for lives to be lost. With the Vigilance-class ships weapons being forward facing it would offer an easier solution. As the pirates had yet to scramble their fighters Nikias wanted to draw them out, but not make it to obvious. “Dual and Quad Turbolasers at the ready, bearing 000-mark-000. Begin prepping a quad warhead launcher to detonate within proximity of the ships hangers.” Even if warheads were ineffective against such a large ship while its shields were up it didn’t mean that it wouldn’t work as a distraction technique for the Starfighters that the pirates would possibly begin releasing or even as a way to cut their numbers.

Sending a request to the two Frontier Class vessels on his flanks Nikias asked for them to scramble their Starfighters. While he didn’t have command over them he simply needed them to do it to draw the pirates into releasing their own fighters if they had any. As the Starfighters begin disembarking their ships Nikias looked up. “Fire.” The Dual and Quad turbolasers would open up with a barrage on the first escort frigate that sat before them. During this time the warhead launcher would release four concussion missiles that were set to detonate when within proximity to the enemies’ hanger. Two for each side of the ship. Casting a fleeting glance down to the calculations on the datapad Nikias hoped his math was correct. At worse nothing would happen and the plan would’ve been a failure. At best the tactic would disorient or destroy some of the enemy fighters.

With the Force at your side you can defy the odds. Yet, even the Gods cannot protect a man against his own agency. Karen made a wild maneuver and paid for it dearly. One of the ground-side pirates had fired off a tracking missile using a remote launcher. With flak and cannon fire to deal with pushing her ship to it's limits. There was no more room to maneuver. She lost two engines and came crashing down to the earth. Hard.

Luckily. She had not been very high and R2 reversed her kinetic dampeners upon impact. Knocking Karen unconscious against her dash, but alive and in one piece. Her vessel remained scarred and broken against the bottom of a low ravine. Just beyond the reach of the pirate's LR cannons. Otherwise, they might have targeted the smoke and finished the job with gusto.

R2 disengaged from the smelting titanium vessel and plopped himself down in the sand. Quickly bobbing over to the cockpit and stomping against the glass. His siren whistling for Roberts to move her head and pop the latch. Alas, our blue-haired bomber remained blissfully unconscious.

Climbing Da Cliff
2/25

Fire and death rained above the group, sending a cold fear through the climbing line as flaming chunks of metal, rocks, and flesh rolled downward. A few curses escaped as a hot wind blew the line and filled their lungs with harsh air. The Jedi felt a flash of collective fear flow through them. A fall wouldn't be something one recovered from. The team leader relayed a signal to the Flyers up above that was less than professional through their latest code logs. Solomon was proud the group maintained noise discipline after the initial scare.

The Flyer's reply was ignored largely as they resumed upward. Methodically. Screams and sporadic blaster fire got louder the closer they got. Those who'd never experienced bloodshed became uneasy and those who had couldn't think of anything to comfort them if they had a way to. The first time was always the worst. Only the sick didn't feel a thing when they ended a life. Even if it was only in defense of a worthy cause.

The ledge approached. The team leader went over the clay colored horizon and vanished. Then the next. Then Solomon. A sea of destruction awaited him. The Jedi with sabers had already ignited them and were engaging straglers around a destroyed emplacement. Others just coming over the top struggled with their static lines to join the fight before catching a bolt and taking a quick trip to becoming one with the force. Solomon detached and sprinted for neat little piece of cover and drew his knife, linking up with two other Jedi. Solomon crouched behind the two and signaled for a run at the next tower's base

One. Two. Three.

A grenade over the top towards the group of five pirates still near the gun. The Jedi waited for the bang before rushing from behind cover, the few pirates still able to fire did so as their comrades writhed on the ground. The fire was mostly deflected by the forward two. Solomon moved on the right flank and rushed a man with a blaster who was focused on his comrades. The vibroknife slid along the top of the man's ribcage and upward. He convulsed and shook as Solomon took him to the ground before retrieving the knife and moving on the cold durasteel of the turret.

The other two moved up after making short work of the remnants. The three placed satchels on the base before retreating to cover. More shouts of pain could be heard as the remainder of their compatriots moved through more pirates on another section of the cliffs.

Three. Two. One.

A brilliant and loud firebomb engulfed the turret and it's immediate surroundings. The air smelled thick of smoke and burning debris.

Two towers firing in a less than predictable pattern but still filling the air with plasma was not helpful, as soon as the fight went into the vertical, his best bet would be to keep below the rim if possible to put a damper on how long they could maintain fire at him. It was only a few seconds after he was back in the canyon that the ping from Karen's craft was off the screen. He shook his head, not disappointed in her, but for her. Getting shot down was a jarring experience for any pilot, he only hoped that she was alright. So, he would have to keep away from that area of the ravine to minimize danger to her.

He was reminded that the flight lead from earlier was still tailing him and was less than pleased with having been tricked into shooting down his own wingman. Searing hot plasma peppered the canyon walls and floor around him. Time to see just how good this guy was. It seemed that they may be a bit more closely matched than Kurayami had originally given him credit for. He kept straight and level, only jinking slightly to keep out of a clear firing solution. The attacker underestimated his dive angle though and overshot. As he started a sharp turn to the left, Kurayami brought his craft into a steep climb, rolling to get on the Z-95's 6 o'clock. The enemy reacted as expected and pulled out of his turn, begging to go vertical and roll the opposite direction. A rolling scissors had started, and given that the thrust to weight ratio was in Kurayami's favor, it should be a clear enough victory...at least on paper and in theory.

Life was never quite so forgiving however, as the two continued in their engagement, focused solely on taking any open shots that were granted, the windows for snapshots were a fraction of a second long, and lead to quite a long display of bolts flying overhead. But they were nearing the barricade. With being at the top of one of the many barrel rolls Kurayami saw a chance to get this guy to do the SSC a bit of a favor. As he reached the lowest point of his roll Kurayami banked sharply to the right and firewalled the throttles, putting a bit of distance between him and the 95. The other pilot was quick to follow though and attempted to set up another pass. This time though Kurayami didn't roll at all, simply pulling straight up and rocketed straight up. The 95 followed firing when he could, but losing airspeed a bit faster than he would normally have as he tried to lead Kurayami's fighter while it was climbing.

It wasn't long after that the enemy craft stalled, shields were getting a bit lower than he like, but holding steady around 68%. This time, instead of a wingover, Kurayami pulled around, finishing a half loop before rolling left and pulling up to level. This set him slightly below the 95 who was fighting for control again. He almost felt bad to vape this guy, but when it came to having to decide who lived or died, well Kurayami wasn't giving this guy another chance to kill him. He unloaded a withering barrage of fire on the target. All that would have hit the ground was a few burning plates from the hull. He was clear for the moment. Time to work on hunting down the last turret and softening up defenses for the boys on the ground.

"Aquila 13 to all SSC nearby, hostile craft dealt with. Heading toward the last remaining tower to soften up resistance for our boys on the ground. Sorry I was indisposed before. SSC Shadow, Escort One is unresponsive to ping, believed down in a nearby ravine. Unsure if she made it, advise sending search and rescue units ASAP. Bloodborn out."

He cut the channel and turned to head back towards the canyon and do what he told the ground forces he would, he was expecting a bit heavier resistance at their last remaining AA tower. Anything that he could to to ease the impact on the ground forces he would. Time to go to work.

The two Sanctum gunships flew low across the green plains and blue lakes of the North as they tore towards the suspected canyon barricade that the Boz Pity pirates had erected to maintain their grip over the area.

Connor Harrison stood at the landing door of the gunship, Rangers and Jedi around him as they held on and prayed to the Force they would be able to make it to ground in one piece. Connor, in his Battle Armour and torn cowl – a nice souvenir from Dromund Kaas – glanced through the cockpit and watched the canyon come into view thanks to the light show from their turrets taking on the Sanctum forces above.

Above the planet and on the surface, the Sanctum were here to push back the pirates and secure Boz Pity. Burts of laser canons and rockets shot from the gunships as they picked off defence erections on the ground, spitting up pockets of fire, earth and debris.

The gunship banked left and jolted as it was hit, rocking slightly, but managing to make a brief stop above the ground a distance from the barricade. The doors pulled back with help from the Rangers and the light poured in, as the Sanctum soldiers and warriors poured on onto the soft ground.

"Pilot! Stay low and take out what you can on the pass! Don’t hang around!” Connor called as he landed on the ground, ducking with a salute to acknowledge the gunship to move out.

As the forces began to disperse and form their units to begin their assault on the barricade from their area in the canyon, Connor flipped up a small cover on his belt and took his comlink and knelt, activating it.

"This is Connor. Gunship 3 and 4 are returning from the surface, our forces in positi- ”

The light attracted his attention first in the sky. The explosion came seconds later. A few gaps around him signalled their loss as the light show continued up above their heads and the casualties of war began to stack up.

"Gunship 3 returning. Ship 4 down.”

The battle for Boz Pity was on.

Boz Pity - The Grave Yard Planet.

An old beaten up A-Wing, the Crossfire Hurricane, landed in a rocky barren field south of the pirates stronghold. Once home to many a grave, well still is, there is not much left of the headstones and the bones of the past had vanished to dust. Yet, there was a sense of foreboding and death hanging in the rocky outcrop, pitted in the stone of the valley, seeping underfoot in the sandy ground, a very cheery place .. at least the sun was shining.

Abaigeal popped open the canopy of the old fighter, much restored on the inside, the outside was the same from when her mother owned it. The blacken scars of blaster fire still ran down the undercarriage, chipped paint some small signs of rust and she can't remember the last time the engines had a clean. But regardless of this, the ship flew like the wind and Abaigeal loved it.

She pulled off her flight helmet shortly after her feet hit the ground, a slight breeze ruffled her long black hair as she looked around the place. Only a few old ruins remained to indicate that this was once a place to lay the dead and so she walked to take a look. She turned in a full circle taking in everything, it appeared she was in a small valley or sink hole that had served the purpose for a grave yard, yet at the end of the old ruins are a set of lizard like structures to herald the entrance. She had to admit they did not look inviting or would give anyone buried here any comfort for peace. In fact the place looked hellish.

But she is not here to sight see. Pulling out her data pad, she pulled up the information to the location of the pirate stronghold, it would take her a good hour or so to get there on foot and with the Coalition arriving soon, she had to hurry. I always did like the back door...

Matsu remained quite and looking out from the bridge of the ship as they were heading down towards the planet. The others were moving in quickly which gave her time to work as they had the cradles able to be launched and deployed with the dropships to start setting down and landing. The massive factory ship they would need was there as the bank of engines it had working blazed allowing them to get towards the planet and linger waiting for the cradles to be constructed as she was putting the sections on the hardlight maps with a nod of her head. "Continue and send more construction droids down to the planet, release as many probes as needed to provide information to the fleet fighting. We have the system cartographer up and running."
