Sunburns & Hyperdrive Troubles

He doubted that the toe was broken, though even if it was a bacta soak would have if fixed within a few hours. Luckily, The Messa did in fact have a medical kit on board located within the 'fresher. It was also lucky that during his own injuries Kurt had never actually managed to get to that medical kit, which would mean that everything in it was still there and perfectly useable.

"Alright, hang on." Kurt said as he stood up from his squat and wandered off.

It took him a few moments.

The refresher was probably the cleanest place on the entirety of the ship, Kurt and Kaile taking careful measure to keep all of it completely spotless. The sonic shower was located within the corner of the room, the toilet to the left, the sink to the right, and above it there was a large cabinet that was locked with a set of magnets. Kurt popped the cabinet open and pushed aside some of Kaile's beauty products, eventually pulling out a red packet with a large white cross on it.

He unzipped it, checking it's contents before giving himself a nod.

"Alright I got the med-kit." He called out to Kaile, closing the cabinet. "Maybe we should be wearing slippers."

By now, the tears had dried. The initial flare of pain waning into an ache. Kaile still had a slight grimace to her face, and ever so slowly, the Lorrdian delicately brought her leg up over her lap to give it a good look.

There were little drops of blood on the floor, and she was trying to keep it from falling on the couch. Every now and then she gave a wince, the dark slash of her brows drawn together in the throbbing hurt.

Stupid Kaile! I should have been watching where I was going…That was her internal lament. She normally was better at being aware of her surroundings. However, given the explosion, it was understandable that things were a bit shuffled around.

The muffled suggestion brought a half snort of laughter, taking her mind from the sting of her toe. Gently, she attempted a wiggle of it. No massive shot of pain at least. The lasceration is what made it appear worse for wear.

“I was just being stupid… and got too excited that’s all.” she called out to him, putting a tiny bit of pressure at the tip of it to try and manually wiggle it.

“Wasn’t looking where I was going.”

Kurt wandered back into the living room of The Messa, digging through the med-kit and seeing what all it actually had.

The little red bag was something that Kaile had bought during their last jaunt to Byblos, she had chided Kurt for not already having one, stating that a basic med-kit was a must have on any starship, especially one flown by Kurt Meyer. At the time he hadn't really cared, nor had he really understood, but after what had happened with the hyperdrive Kurt was a tad more conscious of what exactly an injury Kit could actually do for him, though during that particular incident the Kit had of course been rather useless.

"Yeah, but slippers would've prevented the injury." Kurt said as he finally made his way back, taking out a small bacta sprayer. The device wasn't really anything new, just a small spray kit that allowed one to mist bacta onto an injury. Kurt had never really understood Bacta, mostly because it was a medical marvel that he'd never cared to find out more about. All he knew was that if he put bacta onto something, it healed. Perhaps he should have looked into it, but that just seemed like too much of a hastle for him. With a slight smile he sat down on the floor in front of Kaile.

"Hold still." He said messing with the sprayer. "This will make it better."

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

"Tch!" she clucked her tongue, giving another wince. " Slippers wouldn't have done no good with that crate," she mumbled. Kurt reached over, smirk as usual, and she could see the amusement in his eyes.

"Yeah, yeah.. laugh it up fuzzball." Kaile would mumble, but it the corner of her mouth was upturning slightly. Kaile could never stay upset long. Just wasn't in her nature. She was just a naturally cheerful person. While she may have been going through an emotional rollercoaster, the essence of who Kaile was remained unchanged. Would always be.

Large brown eyes panned over to Kurt, meeting blue. Carefully, she hovered her toe closer over to Kurt. Oh this was going to sting.

"Okay... " she gave a grimace, " I'm ready."

"Depends on the slippers." Kurt said as he slid a small bacta cartridge into the sprayer.

The device was relatively simple, or at least the instructions made it out to be. Simply take the affected area, clean it, then utilize the Bacta spray upon it. He smiled slightly, nodding at the instruction booklet and setting down the bacta spray for a moment. From the med-kit he retrieved a small wet wipe, it was treated with a sterilization compound that would effective neutralize anything on Kaile's toe. His hand would reach up and gently grab her ankle.

"Hold still." Her toes wiggled. "Please."

Gently he dabbed the gathered blood away from her toe, cleaning the wound quickly before retrieving the bacta sprayer and giving the wound a spritz or two. "There."

Kurt somehow thought that he had now accomplished something, and quickly he put the bacta sprayer away, wondering if this was how doctors felt all the time.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

Oh that stung. That stung!

The wipe had a disinfectant that had the unfortunate side effect of stinging. Kaile sucked in her breath through her teeth, and immediately she began to wave her hands frantically over her toe.

"Gahh, oww that stings!" she frantically tried to fan air on it, as if the exaggerated motions would offer some form of aid. By that time, she had even bent forward, moving her torso forward to blow on it as if that would help out.

"ow... ow..."

Kurt watched her out of the corner of his eyes.

The Med-kit had proven useful after all, and Kurt slowly began to place the pieces back into it. The sprayer he treated with the most care, ejecting the small bacta pouch from the back of it and throwing it into the nearby trash can. He was half amazed that this technology existed at all, wondering if Doctors thanked themselves daily for the invention of bacta. The miracle substance was something that Kurt had always wondered about, not to mention the serum that ATC created, Aspha.

Shaking his head The Courier realized that it probably wasn't something worth thinking about. "You okay?"

The wound should heal just fine.

"Not being a drama Queen are you?" He teased her, sealing the med-kit.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

A glower was sent over his direction, Kaile's eyes narrowing with an expression that said if he kept up on it, he was going to get one of their surviving pillows tossed at his head.

"Drama Queen?" she gave a mock expression of affront, "I can show you a drama queen, Kurt Meyer!" grumble and a mumble, but he'd be able to catch the twitch at the corner of her lips. Kaile could never stay upset at Kurt for long. Just wasn't possible.

"Thank you," she added, bringing her toe up close to her face to get a closer look. Not too shabby. The sickly sweet scent of the bacta made her nose crinkle, and she could feel it start to tickle. A wiggle of her nose, then the straightening of her leg high and up in an angle, her hands sliding from her ankle, tracing down her calf and stopping by her thigh.

"I told you that med-kit would come in handy."

"Yeah yeah." Kurt said to himself as he wandered form the room and back towards the refresher.

The Courier didn't like to leave things laying around, especially since he didn't want things to get lost. That was something that his father had taught him, to keep his tools organized and everything in their rightful place. That way, when the time came, everything was right where it was supposed to be. It made things simpler, and although Kurt had never really cleaned unless prompted to first, important things were always found exactly where they needed to be.

"I guess we'll need more bacta." There had been two more flasks besides the one he'd used, but it paid to be prepared. "That shouldn't be too bad though."

Bacta was still flowing in healthy amounts through the galaxy, being sold at nearly every corner. "Maybe hit up a pharmacy."

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

"Yeah," Kaile's voice echoed down the hall to the refresher. "We can get what we need at an Arceneau Trade Station. If we go to Ukio, then that's two birds with one stone." Ukio was a massive agriworld. They would be able to not only buy and barter for fresh supplies, but the standard goods as well.

Kaile carefully began to wiggle her toe. It felt right, but the sharp pain was no longer there. Not even a dull throb. Carefully, she slid her leg down from her lap. Gingerly, she brought the sole of her injured foot to the ground. She'd need to test her weight on it, but like anyone who ever stubbed a toe, there was a second of hesitation.

Bacta really was amazing. Briefly he wondered how Kolto compared, or better yet, Aspha.

That was a drug that Arceneau Trade produced. He'd heard rumor of it, though he'd never actually even seen it in action. Apparently a single vial of the stuff cost more than Kurt had paid for The Messa, and that was a lot of money, money he wouldn't spend on something like that, even if it did make you live forever. He shook slightly, his head pulling to the side as he headed out of the door of the refresher and back towards the living room.

He found Kaile testing her toe there. "All better?"

Kurt asked as he eyed the stack of pancakes on the table. He was getting hungry now, very hungry. The mornings activities had him famished, and truthfully he wanted nothing more than to devour the fluffy cakes of light beige that sat on the table.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

Tentatively, Kaile wiggled her toes. So far so good. Her fingers went curling around the acceleration couch's arm rest. Okay... here we go! Giving herself a much needed mental pep talk, Kaile carefully drew herself to her feet. There was a dull ache at the pressure, and she gave an extra wiggle of her big toe.

"Think so." The Lorrdian would tell him, placing a bit more pressure by adding her weight to it. A faint grimace frosted her lips but it didn't seem as if she was about to go falling over. Gingerly, she would remove her hand from the acceleration couch. Her hands came up, moving at about chest level to maintain her balance. Her head dipped forward, looking at the wounded individual toe.

She took her first step, then the second. It was only a dull ache, but manageable. "Reckon that looks good." Glancing back at the couch she slowly took a step back to take in her her hand. The aroma of bacta, however, did not overwhelm the rum pancakes Kurt had waiting. Her stomach grumbled, and Kaile gave a sheepish grin for being such a troublesome silly girl.

"Okay, let's go eat." she waved him with a beckoning hand, a silly slow shuffle of her feet.

Kurt smiled and handed her another plate that he had earlier pulled from the pile. There was also some syrup that he had earlier collected from the cabinet, not the real stuff, that was far too expensive. This was created using artificial flavors and sugars, not really healthy, but delicious in its own way. He shifted slightly, moving one of the pancakes onto his plate and offering it to Kaile.

"Just like mum used to make." Kurt said with a smile. "There's a lot of rum in them though."

A lot. "So don't eat a lot of them."

It was a myth that alcohol cooked off and became inert, or at least, in pancakes. These fluffy cakes of beige wonder could get one right smashed if they ate enough, though usually one got far too full before reaching that point. The only person who had actually managed it once had been Kurt's friend chuck, though the Skinny Rodian had always had a penchant for overeating.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

Kaile took the plate, her eyebrows rising in curious wonder at the warning. Could one really get tipsy off of pancakes? Her eyes narrowed in scrutiny of the scoundrel. His smile would have made her believe otherwise had it not been for the subtle signs that would suggest he was not joking. The corners of her mouth twitched, and she shook her head.

"Reckon you wouldn't know what to do with me if I ended up singing off the top of the Messa in a happy state, " the light-hearted joke flashed a dimple on her right cheek with her grin. Biting her lower lip in anticipation, her fingers wiggled for a moment over the table. Right! Need syrup.

A small gesture and Kurt would hand over the bottle to the Lorrdian. Kaile had a sweet tooth, so it was to no surprise when she drizzled a liberal amount over the fluffy golden medallions. They had neat little griddle marks too, which made her give a slight, "Hehe," in amusement.

Passing it back to the pilot, hunger prompted her to take the fork in hand. She didn't bother with a knife, she could and has done fine with just the fork before.

"You ever ate too many then?" Kaile inquired, wagging her brows. Using the side to cut a bite-sized piece. Swirling it on her plate to get an ample about of syrup, she twisted it then brought it up to her mouth. Biting down, the rummy potent goodness just seemed to bloom in her mouth. Her eyes rolled back, eyes fluttered, and she gave a rather loud hum of appreciation. One almost akin to the sort she moaned out not a half hour ago.

What could one say? Kaile really enjoyed her food.

"Nope." Kurt said holding up his fork. "I'm not an idiot."

Kurt preferred to drink his alcohol.

Eating too many rum pancakes generally ended with one getting sick. The amount of carbs within the fluffy white cakes and the filling nature of them made it so that eating too much...well it was a recipe for ending up with vomit on ones shoes, not something that he wanted nor needed, especially with what he had discovered about himself today. Shifting slightly Kurt took another bite of the pancakes, chomping down on his food as though he were on the very edge of starvation.

"We have the week, so lets take our time with the repairs and head out a little later." There wasn't much to fix, Kurt just wanted The Messa stable before they traveled anywhere too far.

The Hyperdrive was running okay now, but Kurt didn't want the ship failing again in case they hit some sort of danger. Sure it was unlikely that Sith would come after them now, but he was more worried about pirates. Lately the galaxy had been thriving with them, with more and more governments failing leaving massive pirate fleets out in the galaxy to do whatever they pleased. It was not a pleasant experience running into them, and Kurt wanted to make sure they were ready if they needed to be.

Shifting slightly Kurt look over towards the missing panel on the floor, musing.

Kaile caught that expression of contemplation upon Kurt's face. A bit confused, she followed his line of sight out towards the floor then back to the pilot again.

"What's wrong?" She asked him, just before she took another wide mouthful of the fluffy pancakes. Ohmystsrs these were so goooood. It could be they were the best recipe, or maybe just the hunger that kicked it up a notch, but the pancakes were the best. Kurt knew how to cook a few things, but those he did were his mother's recipes. She'll need to write them down-- a thought came to her then. What would his parents think of her right now after leaving.

Especially after Jonas was so helpful too.

"You seem to be right pensive." Kaile added, but her mind was also elsewhere now. When would they go back to Tattoine?

Kurt drummed his fingers against his knee. He was a bit pensive, though not anything that was truly all that important. They had some money now, and although the cash from his first job was already spoken for, Blue Frilly Dress wise of course, beyond that they would be able to bring in more credits than ever before. In a few months time they might have enough to actually buy something worthwhile, and that thought had him branch out into others.

Mainly, what he could do for The Messa.

"I'm thinking about the hull." Kurt said looking at the floor panel. "I think..."

He bit his lip for a moment. "I think we could eventually replace it. Make something lighter...maybe help contract it out somewhere, I don't know, but something that isn't durasteel. If we managed to refit the entire ship with something lighter? Imagine how much we could up the acceleration."

Probably blindingly fast, exactly the way that Kurt would love it.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

Both of Kaile's eyebrows rose at that. Talk about a aiming high.

"That will be pretty expensive." She began, taking a bite of pancake. She chewed slowly, mulling over what options they had. "And time. We ain't gonna be able to do it in one go, and we gotta consider structural integrity." They could place a shield over the hyperdrive and the reactor, but that did them no good if they lost panels.

"Pending on what sort of material too, might make us into a filmsi boat to get shot down." Her face was scrunching up, going through possible options. "Ain't to say we can't salvage some of it... But uniformity sake and safety we'll need to consider what's out there." And he was right.

It would make the ship ridiculously lighter. Outrageously faster.

"I can look around. See what's out there. Sec." Sliding her datapad next to her with a soft drag, Kaile entered the security code. A few taps and swipes brought up the search menu.

"You got any ideas?"

Kurt Meyer

[member="Kaileann Vera"]

"Nope." Kurt said with half a laugh.

"None at all." He wasn't an engineer. "Something lightweight, but strong, maybe something that will help us with sensors? I don't know. I doubt anyone makes a material like that and even if they did it would take us half a year to buy enough of it to even cover half of The Messa. Maybe it's just a pipe dream right now."

A nice pipe dream though.

Kurt liked the thought of getting The Messa to go faster, of cementing it in history as the fastest ship to ever exist in the galaxy. It was already up there, half a legend in some circles, but he wanted more. More speed, more acceleration, more maneuverability. He wanted his ship to beat everyone, not just a handful. He wanted Interceptors left in his dust and race ships to balk at how fast he went. He wanted his ship to near lightspeed, that's what he wanted.

The Courier knew it was a big ask, but this was his passion.

The Messa was the first thing in the galaxy that truly felt like it was his. Kaile had helped him of course, and he respected and loved her for that, but the ship in it's whole was a piece of him, a part of him, an extension of himself, or that's what it felt like when he flew it.

[member="Kurt Meyer"]

It could very well be a pipedream, but the excitement and what she saw in Kurt's eyes as his mind wandered off make Kaile smile. They didn't have the funds. Likely wouldn't in even a year. They had other priorities to think of, but...maybe, maybe she could see what she could do. Something lightweight, similar to durasteel, and that could obscure sensors. If anything, it could be an ongoing project for the Lorrdian. Researching didn't hurt anyone,and who knew what she could find.

"Well, you never know. Arceneau Trade has moved into creating new materials. So has Vanir." The latter being the same company that had produced the Messa. Thirsty all of a sudden, Kaile set her fork down and would reach for he glass of water.

"At the very least, we can see what is out there. " she brought the glass to her lips, and her eyes would glint with humor over the rim, "Reckon we are the best window shoppers for the job," she teased, referencing that the majority of the times they went out, it was to try out as much as they could but not actually buy it. Kaile had just as much fun doing that and Kurt knew it. It didn't take much for the Lorrdian to enjoy an outdoor excursion. At times she begged for him to take her with him to the deliveries. Depending on how dangerous he had figured it was, he'd take her -- granted, that was before he knew she was an agent.

Setting the glass down, Kaile licked her lips.

"Well... our priorities lay in checking the reactor and the hyperdrive... where else do you reckon our pain points are for the Messa to get to first before we head to Raxus?"

He had been the one to have a first hand experience on the status of the Messa after the explosion, and they didn't really get to talk about what happened to cause it. It was time that they hash it out so that Kaile could know what to do and how they could both work together on making sure it didn't happen again.
