Valery blinked and crouched down in front of him as he expressed how he felt. It warmed her heart that he cared so much about how his sister felt, but there was a reason for everything, "Hey, your sister saw you using the lightsaber, remember? She would want you to have it because she saw that it should be so." She smiled, but knew that this alone wasn't going to be enough to convince him. He didn't want Vera to feel left out.

"Your sister is going to get something too, I promise. But her gifts are focused on other aspects of the Force, and yours are with the blade." Valery reached forward to pull him into a hug and hold him close for a longer moment.

"Is that okay to you, sweetie?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Alright."

Did he fell the best about it? No, but Vera did see him with it, and she was the one who told mom about it when she could've kept it to herself if she was truly jealous. He'd just be sure to include her in the maintenence. Maybe even have her redesign it if she wanted to. Add her own flair. He nodded as his own thoughts, seeming excited more about the future now with this lightsaber. He glanced to the blade, then back up to mom.

"I want to use one of yours, until I fix this up properly. We don't know how much it needs to be repaired."

Valery smiled warmly in an attempt to cheer him up, and stood back up from the hug to ready herself. "It's very sweet of you to consider your sister like this. I'm sure she'll be happy that you'll include her in its maintenance." As jealous as Vera could get, she was also quick to be happy with little things. She just didn't want to feel left out, and Valery knew Aris would never do that.

They were too close as siblings for it, and it was a bond that she knew would last forever.

"Alright, alright, you can use one of mine." She chuckled and removed one of her lightsaber from her belt to offer it to her son. She never really shared her own weapons like this, but for the sake of training, it wasn't a big deal.

"My lightsaber has emitter guards, which makes the hilt heavier near the top. Be mindful of that," Valery told him before she guided him outside and stopped in the middle of the jungle. If they were going to train on New Cov, it would be surrounded by deadly trees and animals. But she had something else in mind too, albeit for herself - from her backpack, she pulled out a blindfold and tied it around her eyes.

"My training will be to let my bond to you guide me. So don't hold back because of this, and let's work on developing your style, hm?" He'd get to figure out his fighting style with a lightsaber, and she was getting some practice in to be even more focused on her sensed.

And...so she could kick her husband's butt, of course.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Heavier at the top."

Aris nodded his head as he looked over the lightsaber, smiled just a little before letting the purple blade ignite. He fiddled with the emitter settings to ensure it wasn't lethal or even capable of cutting. He didn't want to hurt mom, after all. If the jungle got too dangerous, Seszil would be the one to protect them both. He did blink as he watched Valery put on the blindfold. Ohh. That's what the training she meant.

"Okay."

He lifted the saber in both hands, in the most basic of stances no less. They'd been going over just the core of lightsaber combat in class. He took a step forward, cutting down in a rather straightforward way. Each zone, one after the other in a clear sequence of attacks.

"Oh right, I should probably turn it off the lethal setting, too," Valery said rather flatly, but after a moment she just smirked, hoping to have gotten a little reaction from him. "Just kidding, I already did. I'd never hurt you," she said, and that much was certainly true. If anything made Valery scary, it was her protectiveness over her husband and children. They meant everything to her, and she'd tear apart the whole Galaxy to keep them safe.

A scary thought, but one she knew wouldn't ever need to happen.

Aris then made his approach with his blade drawn, and Valery met him as they moved through the various zones. But knowing that he was quite a natural, she quickly tried to spice things up.

With a gentle push of her hand, she summoned the Force to telekinetically shove him back a step, before she raised her blade and slashed down towards the top of his head. A little harder and faster than before, so he'd have to draw strength from the Force and combine it with his bladework.

He could do it.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"You already did."

Aris tilted his head in confusion. He was watching his mom, after all. And he was pretty observant. And, well, he was already pretty aware of just how much Valery would do to protect him and the others. They went through the motions. They were familiar, easy to follow. That was the purpose of the training. But she changed it. He blinked, finding himself thrown back before he had to catch the strike. And struggled.

Just for a moment. He smiled after a second before pressing up against her blade and let the Force flow freely. He'd been told to learn how to control his strength so he didn't hurt his sparring partners. But mom could handle it. He strike back. Faster, more aggressive. There was a mix of deflecting her strikes before swinging his blade back around in whatever opening he created. He wasn't patient like his father, instead pressing the advantage, pressing forward with his strength.

This was surprising.

Valery had expected him to fight like her husband — patient and more passive until the time was right to make a move. Instead, he pressed the attack the way his mother would, still calm and precise, but driven by strength and speed. It made her grin, even though she couldn't see her son, and forced her to focus on their bond. She was not allowing herself to use precognitive skills or any other senses.

So their bond was all she had, and it wasn't as strong as the Dyad. It was the perfect way to practice.

Valery was actually struggling because of her own chosen handicaps and focused on keeping herself calm. That's how Kahlil read their bond so well. He knew her, he stayed calm and didn't let anything distract her. Just a pure focus on the bond.

That had to be it, right?

Deciding to also test her son a little more, Valery jumped back and raised her hand. On each side, a tree snapped in half, and little bits of debris and several larger branches were flung at him from both sides. He couldn't create a barrier to shield himself, but these types of threats would be thrown at him in the real world too.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Aris continued forward. He didn't want to to give space, give her a chance to do anything. But as fast as he was, she was faster. He glanced as he felt the danger. The branches. He twisted, jumping and moving through them as he swung his saber. Not to cut them, he couldn't after all. But he did batter them away before he landed and immediately propelled himself forward again towards Valery.

That was her boy, alright.

Normally, he might have relied on Seszil to cut down the branches and debris she had thrown his way. But without his assistance, he needed to adapt, and he did. Like a lightning bolt — like his Mom — he blitzed towards her through the dense debris, and it connected. Valery felt the slight sting against her shoulder as she tried to evade, but she wasn't fast enough to read him through their bond just yet.

Kahlil would have, and she scowled at herself for it.

But with a hit taken, it was time to step it up against her son. He was a child, sure, but he was her child and she knew he could take it. So in retaliation, Valery suddenly aimed a much more strength-driven strike at him and another. The kind he couldn't block even if he tapped into the Force himself.

Sometimes, people were simply physically stronger, so how would he adapt?

Kahlil_Div2.png

Aris didn't hesitate to try to block, at least. He could feel the danger of the strike, but not so much why it was dangerous compared to the others. Both hands on the hilt of his saber, brought the blade up to catch her strike in a powerful parry. Only to blink as his blade was knocked aside. He blinked again before gritting his teeth and leapt back and away from the follow up. He shifted his grip on his saber, narrowed his eyes in focus.

He didn't charge in again, rather held his blade aloft to keep it close. Careful, studying. Planning.

Valery bashed away her son's blade, and felt an opportunity to follow-up with that same kind of speed and strength. But she didn't make the move, and felt him jumping away through their bond. It'd never feel exactly the same as the Dyad, she knew, but somehow this bond to Aris felt more familiar than others she had made. She could tell that he was closely linked to Kahlil, and it's that little fact that made this good practice for her as well.

"You're doing good, Aris," Valery said as she began to circle him. "Think I'm holding up alright, too?" She chuckled and flashed a brief smile before she got a little more serious.

This time, she wanted to play a different kind of trick on him. She had turned the environment against him, she had thrown in a lot of strength and speed, but she hadn't directly targeted him with the Force yet. So with a quick pull of her hand, she hoped to pull his legs from underneath him in an instant, or at least bring him off-balance.

In that same move, she closed the distance and swept her blade towards him again.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Yes."

Aris didn't give more of a response. He was instead way more focused on keeping himself prepared. He could feel danger, but he couldn't tell exactly what it was, so he'd need to use his eyes. His ears. Every sense to make sure he was prepared and able to react. But he couldn't see or hear what was coming next. He blinked, surprise clear on his face as he suddenly went from standing to being on his back, staring up at the tree canopy above.

".. Huh?"

"Uh-oh~"

Valery's voice was dangerously playful, and if he were to look in her direction, Aris would find her much closer and with her arms wide enough to pull him into a big hug. "If you're swept off your feet, you can't resist the..." Her lips tugged up into a smirk, and her fingers started wiggling in his sides to tickle him.

Was he getting too old to be teased like this? Maybe, but he'd always be her baby and she was going to mess with him. It was just a thing mothers had to do, right?

But while Valery laughed continued her tickling onslaught, they would both feel another source of danger. Though this one was coming from much further away.

Was something out there in the jungle?

Kahlil_Div2.png

Aris was quick to scramble away and leap back up to his feet and raised the lightsaber defensively. He wasn't going to let himself get tickled, not here and not now. A look of sheer determination remained on his face. This was a serious fight in his mind, and he wasn't about to let his guard down even with his mom's silliness. Though, he felt it too. Danger. It was goosebumps along his arms, leaving him nervous.

".. Is that you?"

"Wow, no post-battle hug for your Mom, huh?" Valery pouted a little, playfully so of course, and returned her weapon to her belt, only to tense up at the strange sense of danger. It wasn't something about to hit them, and she couldn't feel anything nearby either, but there was definitely something out there that didn't belong.

".. Is that you?"

Valery removed her blindfold and blinked, "I... really hope I don't ever feel that way to you, sweetie," Valery said with a weaker smile this time. "But I think it's coming from the city nearby." She looked over, and saw the dome coming up above the trees. It wasn't the capital, so this domed city was a bit smaller.

But it was still a barricade between civilization and the dangerous jungle.

"You got enough energy to be a Jedi just a little while longer?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

Oh.

Aris shrank just a little as he frowned. No, this sort of feeling wouldn't come from Valery. But he couldn't truly tell where it was coming from. Only that it was there. Another limitation he'd have to learn how to handle. He nodded, looking off towards where he knew the city was. At least he knew where places were. Maybe that'd be the other half he had to figure out. "You don't stop being a Jedi."

He glanced up to Valery, giving a little smile.

"Let's help people."

He barely needed to shrink a fraction of an inch and Valery would notice. She was his Mom, after all, so she stepped closer and leaned down to kiss his forehead with a smile, "I'm proud of you, sweetie. You did good during training and I trust that we got this together." Her smile brightened, and this time, she didn't ruffle his hair.

She was ready to go.

"Have Seszil move a few steps ahead of us. Just to keep our path clear. And you stay close to me, okay?" As ready as they were, she was clearly still going to be quite protective. But for good reason - as they ran towards the city together, there was a noticeable lack of wildlife coming at them.

It had gone somewhere else.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Seszil?"

"I heard. I shall keep the path clear, young master."

The sword floated beside them before, as directed, scooting off ahead to clear the path in a flurry of their sharpened edge. Even New Cov's jungle wouldn't be strong enough to resist the floating blade. Aris ran beside Valery, only briefly giving a smile to her after the kiss on his forehead before focusing on the task at hand. People were in danger. People who couldn't do what they could. They could be happy for each other and such later.

"How far out are we?"

Valery chuckled and nudged him along, "Yes, let's go save some people, young Master," she teased just a little as they started to run. Of course, she had picked up on his little smile again, and at the end of today, she was going go praise him a lot more.

Maybe she could make him some cocoa before their camping time out in the wild.

"It's right up ahead, look," Valery said as they neared the outer wall of the city. Just like others, there were several layers to get through for safety reasons. But that's what made this strange as well - a lot had to go wrong for the inhabitants to be exposed to the jungle.

As soon as Valery saw the broken wall, but an opened gate in the secondary wall beyond it, she knew enough.

"Someone let them in," Valery told her son, as they grew closer to the entrance point, which was swarmed by deadly predators. How were they all coming together like this?

Kahlil_Div2.png

Aris stayed close, letting his eyes narrow as they moved through the broken edge to see further within. He could see them all in detail. The creatures. Numerous creatures. Valery was right, someone had let them through. He glanced to the lightsaber he'd borrowed from her before holding it up. People were in danger, and mom needed to be fully kitted out if they were going to make sure they were helping everyone they could.

"We should help the people first. Then we can figure out who let them in."

Seszil returned to his side as he looked back to the predators. Then he charged forward. Their was no hesitation as he leapt towards one of the cat like creatures that was about to chow down on a civilian. A kick to the side of it's head sent it spinning away as the silver blade beside him cut through another close by. "Take who you can and run! We'll hold back the creatures!"
