Kaili Talith
Forgotten, not gone.
It was like a recurring trend. Kaili breaking down and crying in Allyson’s arms. The thought that she was a stranger no longer existed. They had transcended that in a mere three days. They had become friends, close friends. It felt insane, part of Kaili couldn’t fathom it, but Allyson meant the world to her. She had been there for three days now, always able to lend a shoulder to lean on when things became too much. She had come to know Kaili like few others did. It was this that had the young kid clinging to her friend’s shoulder in a cramped grip at her jacket as she plunged herself into Allyson’s shoulder.
She cried. She hadn’t cried much, if at all, since the crash. The few times that she did she had forced herself to stop while somehow telling herself that the tears were selfish. She had no right to cry, she had no reason to feel. She existed in the wake of others, and perhaps just exactly that was the biggest issue. Kaili hadn’t allowed herself to feel, and in the end you could only hold tears back for so long. And Kaili, well Kaili had held back tears and fears to the point where she was well beyond her breaking point. Over the course of the last few days she had been faced been faced with the unexpected again, and the last memory of the unexpected was the crash.
Kaili’s hands were growing pale as she pulled Allyson closer in a suffocating pull. Her shoulder mashed and contorted the kid’s face, and while it wasn’t Kaili’s proudest moment, Allyson had already witnessed one or two moments just like these. Moments in which Kaili just lost herself to the fears again, and throughout all of it the smuggler had remained right there to comfort Kaili as she pulled herself together again.
“No.” Kaili sobbed into her friend’s shoulder. “We can’t.”
“I don’t want to let it win. I refuse.” Head turned and leaned itself against Allyson’s shoulder proper. The grip around her jacket softened but Kaili remained with tears pouring down her cheeks. “I have held it all back for so long.” She sobbed. “I’ve never allowed myself to think on anything other than the crash for so long.”
“Yet around you...” Kaili dug her face into Allyson’s shoulder again. “I can breathe. I can be myself again, and that terrifies me.”
The kid swallowed air before whispering into her friend’s shoulder...
“I wish I had met you sooner, Allyson Locke. I-...” The voice muffled. “...-you.”
