The Ore-dinary Hunt [Mandalorian Dominion of Gallos]

(4/20)

In the blink of an eye the short skirmish was already over. Kaida's yellow lightsabre hummed as it scythed two raiders, bringing them the deliverance that only death could. The few surviving raiders tossed away their weapons and held up their hands in surrender. Since they were not fanatical zealots but simply criminal scum out for profit that was the rational choice for them.

Their treatment at the hands of the Eldorai would not be very gentle. "Take their weapons, cuff them and send them to base," Kaida said curtly to her Host Leader, which was the Eldorai equivalent of Lieutenant. "Report to Command that sector three is clear." As soon as she had said these words the daemons of the netherworld - in other words, her writer - conspired to prove her wrong because it had been decided that more slaughter was needed to provide some content for this post.

Abruptly a grinding of stone echoed through the hall, which instantly put her on edge. "It's one of the monsters. Run!" one of the raiders cried out in fear and immediately bolted along with two comrades. He did not get far because an overeager Eldorai soldier shot him dead. The remaining two were not any luckier for suddenly a monstrous roar rang out as a Chrysalide rancor appeared, towering over both of them. Saliva frothed from its mouth as it advanced, looking incredibly hungry and angry.

Maybe it had gone for a long time without food or the little firefight had woken it up and annoyed it. Either way, it would undoubtedly relish the chance to feed on the buffet before it since now there was plenty of food to be had between the surviving raiders and the Eldorai soldiers. The two unfortunate raiders were the first to die when the rancor simply grabbed them and, as they screamed in fear and terror, tossed them into its mouth. Crunches were heard as it munched upon their flesh. At the same time another rancor appeared from behind the group and a scream was heard when it grabbed an Eldorai soldier and ripped her body in two.

Kaida would have let loose an Eldarai curse, but there was no time for that. "Section One take front, Two rear. Spread out and fire. Unleash a shockwave in the rear." The droning whine of thousands of rounds smashing into metal and flesh filled the air as a shattercannon roared, immediately joined by a heavy bolter. The sharp crack of the gun firing was matched only by the percussive crump of the explosion a second later.

The mighty rancor was quite literally getting its insides drilled away and ripped apart. A searing blast of fire barbequed its skin and then it fell over, dead. Meanwhile the second rancor charged into the fray, apparently going straight for Kaida and the soldiers closest to her. Pulling upon the invisible strands of power she gripped a couple of them to pull them out of harm's way as the beast threatened to crush them, then let loose a powerful wind that slammed into the monster like a hurricane and brought it down. However, the beast was not so easily felled and so got to its feet once again and lashed out towards her with a mighty blow that would have smashed her skull but instead broke a solid wall of ice that had manifested around her.

As the ice wall crumbled Kaida was knocked to the ground and then abruptly the beast scooped her, exploiting her temporary daze. However, as it tried to pull her towards its mouth it suddenly cried out when its hand...and then its entire arm suddenly started to turn sluggish and freeze...very strongly. The coldness seemed to be spreading throughout its entire body as it felt itself going limp and becoming more and more paralysed. In a rage it howled and dropped Kaida, soon finding itself bombarded by a hailstorm of small rocks propelled at absurd speed by the power of an Angelii terramancer.

When its foot tried to crush her in a violent rage it was hit straight in the face by the explosive bolt fired from her bolt pistol. Getting up with a groan, cold steam escaped Kaida's mouth and gauntleted hand as she focused and drew upon the energies of her Sciia. Coldness spread through the beast as she began to induce frostbite. A signal was given to her fellow Angelii and the beast was struck by a powerful wind that brought it down. Oxygen and blood an failed to reach its brain as she exerted her will to freeze its arteries. Without blood being pumped from the heart to the rest of the body and with no oxygen being transported, the beast slumped over and died most agonisingly, joining its other brethren.

In the meantime setting up a mining outpost was proceeding well. Siobhan, whilst in the middle of studying the paperwork involved with this sort of thing, heard that the Eldorai had killed a couple monsters. Requesting an update on the state of the unit, she diverted a couple reinforcements and medics down their way, then turned back to her business. The rig was being set up, so drilling had not begun yet, but all in all the basic structure of the outpost had been set up, to a large extent thanks to the use of ARGH droids and engineers that had already set up a similar outpost on Bespin before the Second Akala Crisis resulted in the Protectorate losing its grip over the planet. It would not be long before extraction of cortosis could begin.

The Conner net settled over the chrysalide, and all hell broke loose.

Suspended on an activated jetpack, Alec circled the scene at a respectful distance. Splinters of fresh-broken trees rattled off her armor as the chrysalide made its displeasure known. Its claws and jaws could shear through armor plate, but weren't all that effective against the slack envelopment of the electrified net. The dang thing had been designed to disable small capital ships. Chrysalides might be some of the toughest critters known to man or Mando, but even a half-shredded Conner net would still entangle, obstruct, and trap them. The Garden of Unending Delights spat another net, and another patch of forest turned to chaos. Trees crumpled, roars ascended to heaven, and chrysalides got forcibly electrocuted.

Good times.

Nolan rolled to his side, he didn't know what had happened. He'd been rondesvouing with the others when he blacked out, and now he didn't know where he was nor the location of the others.

"This is Detta, where is everybody. I blacked out. Where can I meet up?"

(Sorry for the short post, trying to find Nolan's muse)

The Legacy, an old Kuat gunship, exited hyperspace with a small crew of Mandalorians aboard. Tariu Fett was at the helm, relieved that the old lady had survived the multiple jumps it took to get to Gallos. He wasn't entirely confident that this antique boat would actually make it in one piece. Though that was the risk Fett took for his love and joy and old war birds. Though antiques were meant to be show pieces, this one seemed to be fresh from the junkyard and held to get with spit, space tape and rust. Rust probably being the main contributing factor to its stability.

"We made it an' still alive. " Tariu would announce over the PA system. His thick concordian accent was rasped and metalicized by the ships coms that echoed through out. The Mando pilot would click a few buttons to transmit his IFF to the mandalorian fleet that patrolled the system, making sure that he placed the proper codes in so he and his mates with him would not get wasted by friendly fire over miscommunication.

To garuntee their safety Tariu would get on the coms and announce their arrival proper and intentions "this is Tariu Fett aboard de legacy. we are late ter de party an' awaitin' orders"

Man this ship was pretty nice, sure it was broken in some parts but overall, it still hid together quite a ton. Zathra just stood against a wall and leaned her head and back against the cold and rusty surface of the Legacy's interior wall. Zathra looked over at Tariu, good old Tairu...will he wasn't old just thirty-five but for Zathra will, that was a long ways away. She twirled a WESTAR-35 blaster pistol in her right hand and her graffiti paint style mandalorion helmet was being held under her left arm. Her eyes were closed but she wasn't asleep, no she wasn't even close to sleeping, she was actually thinking about the current situation. Ok so her first Dominion or Invasion or whatever they even called it, maybe it was called just a Dominion because that was a simple name to remember, because it started with D which was the fourth letter of the alphabet. Zathra muttered something in Mando'a under her breath and then smelled the air. Yep, that smell was either rust or some type of broken thing that smelled a ton...what was that smell anyways, will that wouldn't be important right now. Although on the return trip, it would sure be important.
"So, Tairu....is this your first Dominion thing? It's my first true one."

...the Legacy had come out of hyperspace with a special guest during this mission as well. Usually Rally Master Ahn-Dross preferred to travel via his own starship for reasons of practicality while he was on patrol in the outer reaches however he'd agreed to come to Gallos in the Gunship while leaving [member="Cennika Hawk"] in command of his own vessel (unless she decides to show) which had a certain irony about it. Irony hadn't factored in Naimes decision however seeing as how he always appeared composed, logical and thoughtful in his decision making even in the midst of combat...

...the entrance to the bridge would have -hissed- wide moments after [member="Tariu Fett"] had relayed his message throughout the ship and Naimes would have loomed in the background, casting a long shadow, while he surveyed the cockpit. Considering he'd Captained a Light Freighter originally Naimes was used to the confined space of smaller ships such as this. Looking at Tariu he would have remarked...
"There was never a doubt you would take us to our destination safely."...then his attention would shift to the viewport and the black of space while Naimes contemplated the situation quietly. Naimes hadn't been fully apprised of the situation when he'd agreed to make the trip to Gallos now he had to learn more...

...assuming that Tariu knew something he'd have asked...
"What's the situation on this world?"...aside from the fact it was close to Primevil space, incredibly close, if you could roll down a window on this Gunship you could probably spit and hit the capital of Bastion from here without to much difficulty. Nonetheless according to the small tidbits that Naimes did know this wasn't a large military operation and the intel he did have on the Gallos Initiative as he'd coined it was scarce at best. At the moment, standing behind Tariu, Naimes was dressed in comfortable clothing, a tunic and cloth breeches which left his movement unrestricted, he looked very much at ease with his environment and those surrounding him despite his subtle wonder as to their involvement here...
...looking over he'd have seen [member="Zathra Fett"] as well and he'd offer her a polite nod, she looked young almost to young in the old soldiers opinion but he did have a bit of bias admittedly....

Ana hated being tardy to the party but sometimes it just couldn't be helped. She had a few things that she had needed to take care of before joining her Vode on this trip. Luckily were were others whom also needed a ride to the latest planet that the Mandalorians were looking to claim as their own. She hadn't been appraised of the situation on the ground and by the looks of it nobody else on this ship had been either.

This ship didn't seem to be necessarily safe but the old bucket of bolts had gotten them there in one piece but if it was all the same to everyone else she would be grabbing a different ride home. In order to do that they first needed to get off this thing and on to the planet. Sighing she turned to look out the viewport tapping her foot lightly. Ana was a little antsy to get planetside.

The mining equipment was slowly getting put up, to the point where we would be done soon. Hopefully by the time the Mandalorians finished subjugating the world, I would have this building up and running, producing small amounts of cortosis for me and the Mandalorians. It wouldn’t be a whole lot. Not enough to outfit an army, but more than the Mandalorians had access to as it stood now. I intended to change a lot of that. With mines going up on Gromas I intended to make Phrik more available as well, while Beskar had almost always been a commodity restricted to the Mandalorians themselves.

I walked out into the hot sun, watching over the workers as they started getting ready to install another strut for the mining platform that would drill a shaft one kilometer into the earth once it was completed. “How goes the work foreman, how long until the drill turns on?” I asked the man holding a clip board approaching me. “It seems to be going well. We should have some form of estimate on drilling time once we get the laser drill in place tomorrow.” He responded. “Get some surveyors to do a test drill on the location to get us that estimate now. I know they can apply some kind of math and give me something to go on.” I ordered. He simply nodded in response.

She was very silent these last few months much going through her mind, and much that she did not say. She had been keeping to herself some might know why, others would guess, and only a few would ask.

Off to take over another planet expand their space she did not protest much to anyone, she too was calm, collected. Emerald green eyes constantly looking ahead taking into consideration all that happened around her, not concerned that much of it concerned her not.

She half smiled as someone mentioned her name and bid her a greeting. Right now she focused on what was ahead.

Time continued to pass, mining still hadn’t been started. I was growing agitated with this project. I needed to have this project done by now. Drilling and mining wasn’t this difficult. At least not in my mind. Perhaps I should have contacted MandalHypernautics about joining me for this little venture, but it was a little late for that now. Now I just needed to focus on getting the laser drill operational and put it to use. The power of a sun nested within the laser drill, roughly equivalent in power to a turbolaser. I sat, waiting for the workers to finish hooking it up. We were late, and would continue to be so until it started.

Come on, how much longer,” I called out to the foreman. He avoided eye contact. He knew I was bored and ready to move on to other projects, but this was the best he could do right now. “Maybe another day and drilling will begin. We will keep at it until we are done setting up the mine. Day and Night sir.” He said, knowing that at least hard work would make up for already being a day late.

Well hurry it up. I have projects I need this cortosis for. Several projects at that.” I said, exasperated with the situation. Even still we would soon begin, and that was good.

Siobhan looked up from a pile of reports and put a datapad away. So much paperwork to do! "Taldir and company took out two Chrysalides. I'm starting to think they got the better gig than me. Next time we go on a mining op I should go down to kill monsters. That's more exciting," she grumbled. No, she was not being jealous at all.

Maerys Medea, her pretty Eldorai PA who was sadly very prim and proper, sighed. "Yes, Countess, but I believe you can hardly coordinate operations while you are indulging in swashbuckling heroics. No matter how much the media loves those. As you can see our teams have security well in hand."

Siobhan poured herself a glass of water and had a sip. "You're no fun. All this...paperwork is making me feel old," she grumbled to herself while looking over a report.

"I'm sorry you find administrative detail tedious, Countess," Maerys said in her best Sir Humphrey voice. She could totally appear in Yes, Minister. "Anyhow, on the topic of our actual objective, the forewoman reports that we should be set up and able to start drilling within a day."

Siobhan looked displeased. "A day? We have several projects to complete and have invested a lot in this operation. They should double their efforts and work harder. I pay them well, I expect results," she insisted.

"I shall be sure to pass that on," Maerys said with eternal patience. So far the rumours of Siobhan randomly Force choking people who displeased her had proved unfounded. Hopefully thingd would stay that way!

"Good. Do you have the survey reports?"

"Yes, Countess. They are very promising." It was going to be a long day.

The figure that looked exactly alike to the designs of the Droid General, General Grievous, during the era when the states of the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems or the Separatist Alliance that was more commonly known out the two. Very feared was this general that even the ferocious Warriors of the Republic whether they were Jedi or Clone Troopers proceeded caution when approaching this emotionless cyborg. Not even two Jedi or thousands of clones could bring this monster to its metal knees; however, it was quite amusing when the race of the clumsy Jar-Jar Binks, the Gungans, forcefully brought down the infamous Separatist Leader to its knees. A very huge embarrassment to the reputation of Grievous as he was submitted by creatures that didn't even use blasters as a weapon of defense. But this Warrior came to its fate as the Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi, fired few lasers to its organs at one of the last battles of the Clone Wars.

And this Droid that looked like that ancient Warrior would not bring fear to the Rally Master. He fought savagely and brutally, but his name or face wasn't familiar to his mind. Thinking his plasma projectiles would directly hit the Droid found another target as it used another being to serve as a defense for the selfish Droid. Another life to be taken away which was then thrown at the Mandalorian. The throw indeed hit the Warrior which led Vilaz hit the ground and the corpse meters away from him after the impulse momentum. He shook his head and stood up using his legs and arms. He then stood staring at his opponent who challenged him to a duel. A duel he would get, but it would be no holds barred. “And you'll be getting a spank or two," accepting his duel and continued his barrage of blaster bolts while closing in the distance between him and the Droid.

Another fighter destroyed as the bait in front of Anija was destroyed, but she still had two more hostiles to deal with. They were steady on her tail and mimicked her every move. Then the rockets fired from the Pathfinder of its rear were dodged by and continued to pursue their target. The Field Marshal had to find the way to shake off and destroy her adversaries through whatever means.

They kept hard at work, spending the entire night putting everything together and having it start to come online. Such a process would take an hour for it to come up to full power and begin drilling into the bedrock of the planet down into the crust. The main shaft would run one kilometer deep, and then have tunnels branching off of it to the mineral veins. It was a massive undertaking, but it was a large one, especially given the amount of care I placed in the project at hand. It was a little more important than just powering through a mining operation.

Get it fired up.” I ordered as the laser came online, still charging up. “Sir its not a full charge. We need to wait another thirty minutes.” The foreman said. “No, go and pull out another generator if you have to and hot-install that one. Get that laser on and drilling now.” He nodded. Starting it before it was fully charged would weaken the beam, but by my guess, not by much. Really if it needed the extra power, the additional generator would be more than enough.

Much to Siobhan's disappointment and no doubt irritation, Firemane could not simply push through the entire endeavour in one go, claim a boatload of cortosis and call it a day. No, this operation took time, effort and patience. Even with the organic workers and labour droids toiling hours upon hours through the night.

It would take time but eventually they would start drilling. For now they would start with two mine shafts, but over time the operation would expand if it was deemed as profitable as hoped, with tunnels branching off. The workers would labour on through the night, which meant it was beneficial to have plenty of droids because they did not need sleep.

Fortunately, no further incidents occured on the security front after the two Chrysalide Rancors had been slain. A couple raiders had been taken prisoner and Siobhan felt like they could be put to good use by help drill things. Soon, survey reports came flowing in. At this juncture Kaida arrived at the improvised command centre.

"Countess," she said with as much politeness as she was capable of, which was not much. Both women just happened to hate each other.

"Seraph." Clearly these two were fun at parties together.

"Security's all clear. Wounded have been sent to the healers."

"I heard. Good, well done," Siobhan, putting aside a datapad. "It's taking time, but the operation is coming together nicely. Keep your soldiers alert though. I don't want any surprises."

"Yes, Countess." Kaida regarded that as a dismissal and gave a salute, then turned to leave, but then Siobhan suddenly spoke up once again.

"So...you and Coryth?"

"Yes, though frankly I don't see why that's your business. With all respect." This was said in a manner that was not particularly respectful!

Siobhan glowered at her, looking rather cold, then chuckled slightly. "Please, save the with all respect part. You hate me and frankly I don't like you. Frankly I think she's selling herself short."

"Then you're also aware that I don't particulalry care much for what you think. Besides, it's her choice. And she's very important to me," she said firmly, suppressing the fact that the Countess was annoying her.

"Good. She's an amazing woman. Stronger than me, to be honest. Means a lot to me. She's also been through a lot. If you hurt her, I'll kill you." Her bionic eyes seemed to flash before resuming their human colour.

"I'd put it under debate whether the fight would be so one-sided, but acceptable terms. She'd probably beat you to punch though. She kicks arse when she's pissed."

"I know. We wrecked a training hall once. So...do you two do any...fun stuff with cryomancy? I mean, I've heard stories about...." Apparently Siobhan had decided to be a troll once again. As [member="Coryth Elaris"] well knew, Siobhan loved being a troll.

"That's private," Kaida said frostily since she had to live up to being a frost elf and went back to work. Siobhan went back to handling reports from the mining teams. She was far from an expert on such matters, so she left the details to people who were actually competent in this field.

The Laser drill fired up, emitting its continuous beam of plasma into the ground, straight down towards the mantle of the planet. The drilling area was so hot, only fully armored men could stand within five meters of it, and molten rock spilled out underneath the pressure of the blast. It would take time. A lot of time, to drill down the full kilometer we had planned but at least we had come this far. At least we had finally started. The Mandalorians IM-455 base was mostly completed, only requiring whatever finishing touches they wanted to put in or on the base. That provided the mining operation, and whatever interests they had on this planet with it and the garrison of troops it would hold. Then after a while I could always comeback and add to it. I planned on leaving my own troops here anyway.

As the drill continued burrowing into the ground, the work crews were busy setting up a second generator to attach to the power feeds. A Hot-install was a little more risky than normal, but using standard technology and basic safety guidelines it shouldn’t cause any problems.

The foreman called out every fifty meters, letting everyone know how long it would be to the next interval. Of course that was very dependent on mineral composites, whether it was mostly metal down there and of what metal. Ferrite was difficult to mine through, but nothing like neutronium, and so the laser slowed some when it hit an iron plates.

Siobhan watched the frigid elf leave then turned back to her paperwork. Truth be told, she still did not like her much. As a matter of fact, she thought the elf was as dull as dish water. To a degree this was because this writer has decided that all their chars should dislike one another for some reason.

Still, she was effective at killing things and Coryth seemed to care about her, so Siobhan would be, well, not nice, but less bitchy than usual. She would still troll the little redhead though! Anyhow, with that in mind Siobhan turned her attention back to the operation at hand. Things were proceeding smoothly so far, generators and installations were being set up and laser drills were slicing through towards the mantle of the planet with a truly absurd heat. Bit by bit they were making progress and with luck the first mine shaft would be ready soon and then extraction of cortosis could begin. Assuming the reservoir of cortosis ore was as promising as they had been led to believe.

At last the tension faded from the lines. Sparks continued to dance, smoke rising from the intersection of Connor net wires and chrysalide-beast flesh. "Hit'em again," said Alec. A fresh charge slammed into the Sithspawn.

And that was it. It really should have been easier than combing lifescans and pushing a button. Chrysalide rancors were some of the toughest creatures in the universe pound for pound, but capital-ship-scale Connor nets did their work. Even if they got shredded in the process. That was just the operational cost of snaring these things. The operation in question was twofold. Procuring the chrysalides? That was the job, the paying one. Getting the chrysalides away from locations of Mandalorian interest -- like cortosis mines? Just paying the clan's dues.

Tractor beams began to lift the trapped, stunned chrysalides out of the broken jungle. They'd thrashed the jungle to pulp. The beams dropped the beasts into cargo holds rigged with repulsor cuffs. Mando technicians got in there and secured the chrysalides.

By the time the chrysalides woke up, the shackles were tight, and linked by podracer-scale energy binders. The freighters still wobbled in midair. From the bridge of the Garden of Unending Delights, Alec watched the tableau, a glasteel tumbler of Whyren's Reserve in hand.

"Comm the client."

Her Arcona copilot burbled something about studying for midterms.

Kerrigan was at HQ doing whatever she did when she pretended to work and actually do her paperwork. Kaida doubted she actually did, but anyhow. The Seraph left the improvised command centre and busied herself with assigning teams of Firemane and Eldorai soldiers to patrol and guard the workers. The few wounded had been taken to the medbay and were now being cared for by the healers. From space Firemane dropships were swooping down, bearing further reinforcements, technical personnel and equipment.

The situation seemed tranquil, but one could not be too careful. A few bandits had been mowed down by turrets, but beyond that everything seemed secure and the few captured raiders were being put to good use by being compelled to carry around heavy mining equipment. Labour and toil continued throughout the night. By the time the sun rose they should be in a position to mine. For her part Kaida allowed herself a smoke because she seemed intent on shortening her Eldorai life span by messing up her lungs.

And so the planet seemed poised to pass into the influence cloud of the Mandalorians as it would be painted orange on the map, having been successfully dominioned. Of course, Kaida, lacking superior meta knowledge, probably did not know what 'dominioed' meant! Time to assume direct control and plunder cortosis!
