The Technology Factory Has Been Temporarily Shutdown

People love to argue and complain. That's a God-given fact of Nature. Nothing's ever going to change that aspect.

I wholeheartedly agree with what Ashin said. I also know that the only reason people don't do it is because they want something of their own, that 'something' of their dreams.

IT'S ALL FICTIONAL.

It's all nothing but a picture or two with a paragraph of words below it. I agree. Don't your time and others' - go buy that thing you want instead of slapping a fresh coat of gold paint on the same old turd. It takes up staff's time and hurts the companies, who made them for people like YOU (not you, Charlotte, it's a generalization :3).

Unless your saber has some special, rare, powerful gem, or something similar, there isn't a need to submit it to the Factory.

Look through the Wiki. There's plenty there to work with. Then again, that goes for a lot of things.

I don't need to put up new spy toys anymore. That's someone else's job now. I'm willing to let Heofon sit on the backburner for a bit if it means that the Factory gets better. Or just cleaner. Either way, it's a benefit.

Seriously, I don't see the problem here.

As I was just discussing with someone...

People have lost the touch of creativity in the writing portion and made it about conquest through Technology and Starships.

"My ship is better!"

"My armor can absorb more!"

"Roll dice! D20! Ah! My ship blasted your shields to 2%!"

I mean I don't know about the last statement but seriously, I thought it was about writing. I am glad to see this put down for a bit and hope to see some other things curbed for a bit.

I don't see the relevance in this, but sure.

That statement of mine was directed to a general populace, not to one faction, one person or anything of the sort.
no directed at you, but we where not going bother with making ships, or other tech until that battle. As we got told our fleet was out date, so as faction it left us no choice but to make ships. Some times just for sake of it

As an old DnD player myself, I hold a special place in my heart, (and my harddrive,) for the numbers game. I really do. A little RNG <3. A little THACO giggle. I smile at a +4 reference every time. Haha.

...But sweet heavens, I would never want to see that methodology applied here on CHAOS. *shivers* Then we'd all just be playing StarWars: Diablo III Edition. (Which I'm sure some people would get off to that. Lol. Sadly.) :D :p

I just had a thought.

We literally have thousands of submissions, and I'd say maybe half of them have dev threads (without giving a thorough look).

Maybe after the break, we could require that ALL items submitted need a dev thread, but make a clear addendum to the rules or something, that the Factory is entire optional, but adds credibility. Maybe the reason people are hopelessly addicted to creation is because it is too easy to create a numbers-game item, instead of something attached to their characters.

Also, we need to overhaul the indexing section of approved submissions, because although we can have threads that list a bunch of stuff they are still just that: stuff.

There needs to be a quicker way of scouring through the factory areas, and a strong encouragement to look through them. Also, if they want to do minor mods to a ship, I feel like there should just be an area where they can record what they've done without consequence, but if there is a problem a member sees they suggest an alternative.

Just spouting out a few opinions here to keep the discussion constructive on the matter.

Straight up, most people can put things like personal sabers, beskar'gam, basic Sith swords and other simple doodads in their blog - that's something I've actually been doing with less-than-special submissions for the past four months. If it's standard, there's no need to submit it in the first place. And if you're stuffing tech into something like a lightsaber to the point you need to submit it, you're doing it all wrong.

This actually brings me to a question. Inscribing Sith Spells on an object, does that require a submission at all? I submitted mine just in case, but now I am curious if it doesn't just count as a Force power.

I submit my first personal saber because I figured I should. (I was also completely new.)

My second one was submitted because it used a Lignan crystal and I didn't want to just be like, "Hey, I'm gonna cut you". (I also figured by [member="Tefka"]'s reaction to my sub that I was right in submitting it.)

Tef, you're great and all, but I have a serious problem with this.

Some of us like to RP characters who own major companies. Some of us enjoy making tech for those companies to "sell" on the open market because that's what our character does IC. Then we want to use it. The problem is that we can't just go and use something because people will complain. To take away outlets for designing new tech and ships hurts some characters just as much as it helps others. I can't go with Niamh and design a wardroid because if I use it in RP, people will complain, but if I've submitted it, and had it approved for both realism and not being overpowered, then people are more apt to take it for what it's worth.

I just went and did a lot of work with Niamh to get a contract with a faction so that I could buy myself out from under another company because I found it fun and because I enjoy making things for people to play with, and now that's being taken away.

I understand that you're going to say that RP is making things for people to play with, and that's true, but some of like legos with stories rather than just stories and no legos if you get my meaning. I, frankly, am rather annoyed that I can't really do much but sit on my hands when I had lots of plans to make things for the Silver Jedi and the Remnant both.

A lot of us put a lot of hard work into submissions, and you're taking that away. It's not very cool.
