Things Are Going To Change: OP's Future

It should not be left to me to drive threads onward all the time. Major threads that affect the faction, sure. Absolutely. But I don't need to be in faction thread. I can't. I'm one person.

People need to be able to drive threads on their own without my hand. And that was part of what I was attempting to do with the Athos dominion; provide a place for people to make their stories.

That's why in this Naboo thread where we're discussing the aftermath of the Invasion, Ayden's a secondary character in it. He's not there to push the story along the whole way. He's given his report and assessment, and now he'll let the Queen and the others do their thing. He'll probably wander off at some point to do other things to help rebuild. He's not a central figure for the narrative.

And I'm okay with that.
I understand that you cannot be everywhere…but someone does. If not you, then there has to be someone dedicated who can push out OP posts every day, or else the faction stagnates.
I am very fortunate to have [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] on my team, as she can push the agenda even in threads I’m not in.
Not to blow my own and [member="Cira"] ’s horn, but the entire reason the original OP was founded with an LP and 2 Exarchs was to give a trinity of people with authority to push threads and ideas without relying on a single person.

OP is not, with the exception of Ayden and Noah, a faction of primary alts. The main bulk of members are alts belonging to 2 writers, with the rest being mainly secondary alts of other primaries. There’s nothing wrong with this, but we need to be honest if we’re looking at 100 members and expecting them to all be active writers.

What has to be done is to persuade more people to make OP their main home. At the moment I don’t see any initiative here, no overarching plot or structure which is guiding events. Faction renewal can come in multiple ways. The Sith collapsed and refounded themselves (though that’s not a good suggestion for here), but the Republic refounded itself recently on a new political structure and with a new military bent.

Whatever course is taken, it’s clear to me that there are several things which need to happen:
  • More faction threads and providing training and support for new people.
  • If Ayden alone cannot handle all the responsibilities of leading (and very few can handle a major faction by themselves) then leadership should be broadened out to give more people who can push things along.
  • A unity of purpose or a single goal. The Bando Gora story was great for focusing attention, but that’s over. Something else is needed to fill that gap.
  • Get members involved. Give them meaningful authority if they warrant it do they are not relying on the faction admins, and are rewarded for initiative.

I would love to, but for the last 6 months I’ve had not much encouragement to ask for such a thing. We’ve built our own minor faction and fleet because of a lack of central support, so whilst we value our autonomy we’re prepared to help if given the right incentive.

But we will not deal with Sith, and no one here should.

All I'm really gathering from this is people want to be interested and there's nothing to get them interested.

And that neither side really seems to want to approach the other about doing anything major. Just a whole ton of complaining.

Lack of communication is the best.

I have an idea! It's still in the works, but it could give us another faction campaign sort of thing to get us back into action. Could be pretty interesting.
Hopefully I'll have a proposal written up by tomorrow morning.

To explain my lack of activity within OP- job and paying off debts.

I agree with Tegs on the points of more faction threads and bringing back the unity we had in Bando Gora story line.

Lack of faction threads where something's happening, and I'm not speaking here about Dominions, Invasions, or political meetings, is really what did it for me in case of lowering my activity in OP. I don't really see any of you anymore ICly outside of Sio and Tegs because of our business dealings, the few threads that I did have with others, like that tracking thread I've had with Karen on Corellia, or meeting with Cira before Coruscant, they never really get finished, and at some point, I just stop trying because I expect them to.

But we need another Harbinger thread, we need something where we can have fun together fighting common enemy, have epic moments here and there in battle or out, but without the stress of Invasions with Sith trying to rip our heads off with telekinesis, poison us, or alchemize us, or the hurried feel of Dominions. (Or at least they felt stressed and hurried to me, I cannot speak for everyone)

What I think actually worked for us lately were those terrorist attacks, the one on Corellia I believe by the One Sith few months back when they tried to bring down the Shipyard ring, that attack when I think it was the docks and Naval Academy on Corellia was taken hostage by some Non-Force users, we had a nice thing going then. Going back to Invasions quickly, I think we did an awesome job on Druckenwell, that was one of the best invasions I've been in, the big push we made to try and counteract the Shipyard Ring falling down, how chaotic it felt but it gave me that fuzzy feeling of unison with you guys and even some Confederates, we could use more of that.

But those are my two cents, I'm fresh out of work so I'm probably talking out of my shiny metal ass.

-EDIT-

Also, [member="Ventasia Terana"],

[member="Corvo Anattolius"] was in there too, he's the only one that knows how to fly a ship :p

Like [member="Ven'Rain Sekairo"] I actually have some ideas I've been tumbling around in my head, but since also like her I'm currently have class out the wazoo, I'm actually trying to get some English work done right now so I'll try to have it up by tomorrow evening by the latest.

What gets me RPing? Creative ideas.

We could have tons more OP threads, but after RPing for so long there's only so many ways you can enter a bar and meet people.

One of the issues for me, with the OP, is difference. Mainly, for a long time, OP was "that giant purple blob on the map that didn't do anything".

And now we need to do something.

Throw out some events, some game changers. OP's survived the longest, let's get this done!

P.S. To refer back to the Enigma thing: It's a RP forum. Who cares?

Start wars, that gets people interested. You got the fringe, which I helped found with one of my alts. yourselves and the fringe are around the same activity and member level these days. Either run coop storylines or start grinding some metal.

It's perfect too cuz of conflicting borders.

Alright like I promised I have a few things that we can do to help bump up activity:
  1. Build fortifications (ie make dev threads and Codex subs for things like forts, firebases, gun batteries and the works.)
  2. NPC training (basically creating faction threads where us PC's train NPC's so we can train Pyre and ODF soldiers to basically make them into betters soldiers.)
  3. So I know we talked about this before but nothing ever came of it. We need to use that species sub that HK subbed and make the storyline he semi has already made. All we'd need to is flesh it out a little more
  4. Implant and Super-Soldier research. Okay, it is sorely obvious that when it comes to pure strength of our NFU NPC's lack a strength that is being exhibited by our enemies, particularly the vong. So a while back, me and [member="Aeron Kreelan"] discussed putting implants that would increase the strength and agility of the Pyre forces. This never got very far because Cira never responds back to my PM's. Yeah, I went there.
  5. Me and [member="Nyos Val"] need a little bit of help with a dev thread we are currently working on. Alright so Nyos developed a kind of tank-battleship for the defense of Fondor and I've built a exo-skeleton that would increase the strength of all of NFU's by three fold, the agility as well. Me and Nyos decided to accomplish our goals by killing two stones with one bird by merging our dev threads, my working on the tank and him the exo-skeleton. Bad thing is that we need at least thirty-five posts, so we need a few extra hands.
  6. Okay so like my third idea this has been booted around a bit and nothing has really been done with it. We need to make established relationships with other factions. Whether it be political, militaristic or economic or even all three at once. I've got a few factions in my mind: the Mandalorians, the Morross Crusade, the Republic (of course), the Fringe and the Black Suns.)
  7. Okay this isn't really a idea but more of a personal grievance, well not really a grievance but more like something I want to have discussed. Who decided that Enigma was a good addition to the Protectorate? I mean I'm advocate for freedom for everybody to role play wherever they want but ICly it is a move that might come back to bite us in the ass. I mean she has never ICly had good relations with us or our allies, quite the opposite in fact. She has had ties with the Fringe, the Feds, the One Sith and a whole host of other factions that has had it out for us. Not to mention the strong ties she has with multiple low, mid and high rank people within the One Sith, not to mention she has been responsible for the deaths of multiple Protectorate NPC's and PC's alike.

[member="Noah Corek"]

Enigma is not "part" of the Protectorate, ICly. She has no standing, no power, nothing to do with the government. And that's not going to change.

What I'm doing with Enigma is motivated solely by OOC conversations and has no effective on the Protectorate whatsoever.

I'm working on a new arc for this alt. I have been having issues keeping my alts alive.

So I'm working on it, with a new job change and new gears in ife, it should be fixing!

I'm working out some threads with the Republic now. I'll talk with Fringe and ACA leaders about getting some more threads rolling for us. I feel like we've been at our strongest this year when we were work with another faction for the story.

If someone wants to put together an idea for an arc like what was had with the Bando Gora, I encourage and welcome that and will support it in any way I can.

I'm just new blood, so I'm not sure if my opinion matters. I do apologize though however as I know these things depend on people actually tuning in to things that are going down and I did drop off. This was due to school and a pleathera of personal issues mostly beyond my control I will try to do better. I was reading though and the one who spoke of there needing to be more than one person taking care of things being part of all the threads, maybe a tribunal of sorts was on to something it does help alot! Also maybe you could tap people... PM them with orders to meet someplace, sometime and just straight up GM a mission... could be fun maybe I dunno.

Sorry if I overstep my bounds.
