Under Our Parent's Shadows

"Oooohhhhh..."

Of COURSE that was what [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] had meant. Oh how silly of her! She wudened her stance a bit. Then as she looked at a spot on the ground, Lori focused on moving the air particles around. She couldn't go too fast, no matter how much her instincts wanted her to. She was far too used to creating little balls of light with this method. Regardless, she had discovered that reminding herself constantly was the better way to go. It kept her in check.

Hopefully she'd do well enough to at least carry something small.

Kahlil watched on for a moment in silence before waving his own hand. The long grass around them was seemingly cut, and were swiftly picked up by the swirl of wind [member="Loreena Arenais"] had created. "It's difficult when it's just air, right? Now you can see what you're doing." He turned to her, giving a wide almost goofy grin. She was picking this up rather well for someone who only knew how to make small globs of light.

After a moment he'd pull out a bottle of water and chuck it into the growing vortex, where it'd begin to float and spin with the current. "You're already doin pretty good."

"Oh that is easier!" But it was harder too. Lori had to still focus on the air particles AROUND the objects instead of the objects themselves.

And then [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] threw in an even bigger object. "Whoa there...easy!" Lori wasn't expecting it. At first the bottle dipped downward, but then it began to float up again. She wasn't sure of how much longer she could hold it, but already she was thinking of the implications that such a trick could be used for. Especially in battle.

"You won't get far if you don't know your limits." Another goofy grin, and a wink. Kahlil was certainly enjoying himself, and he quickly tossed another bottle in to see if she could keep them both aloft. Whether [member="Loreena Arenais"] could or not wouldn't matter at the end, they'd at least know her limit. He casually sat down in the grass, resting his elbows on his knees and his chin in his palms.

"I expect no less of an Arenais. You were always considered a threat back home. You and your family."

"Ack!!"

Lori nearly dropped both bottles that time. [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] was crafty at throwing another bottle in there and from the look on his face, he was quite amused. But he was right. She couldn't know what her limits were or how to push them if she didn't know what they were to begin with.

She spun the two bottles around and around the tornado vortex that she had created until they crashed into eachother. With the air still spinning, any debris would be caught and contained. "Sorry!" She tried slowing the winds down, fearing that if she stopped them abrubtly, the bottles would be thrown through the air.

"What? A threat? Is it because I escaped their clutches? My Dad's more of a threat than the rest of us. He's fought more. He's stronger."

"He's stronger, yeah. But your family is power. A name holds more power then most folks give it credit for." Kahlil hummed out his response. He would know after all. How many people knew the Zambrano name, and fear it? Hopefully one day he could change that. Make Zambrano a name people celebrate and trust. A hero. The young man chuckled at the thought. He certainly had his work cut out for him.

"Now, see if you can stop the wind and set the bottles down. If you can't, I'll help out."

"Power? I figured we were more trouble than anything. Or maybe that's my Mom. Trouble goes to her like a magnet. I mean gosh, she had me and I'm nothing BUT trouble."

Lori snickered to herself, but she had to focus on the task at hand. [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] offered to help her to slow the wind down, yet she wasn't so sure that she could do so gently enough. "I'll try. But if the bottles start to fly out, try to keep them from hitting us." She took in a breath and held it as she tried to slow down the particles of air. It was different from making her balls of light. All she had to do was stop it all together and the light would go out. But this was much different. She had to use the utmost care.

"I've got your back, don't worry." He gave [member="Loreena Arenais"] an encouraging smile, not that he thought she'd be able to see him. No, she was far to focused. Not that it was a bad thing. Kahlil smiled and watched on, one hand raised just in case. Honestly though, he fully expected Loreena to be able to handle slowing the wind and setting the bottles down, even if she didn't believe it herself. She was far more skilled then she seemed to give herself credit for.

"Just slow the wind. Gently. They'll float down on their own."

And slowly she worked on it. VERY slowly. Lori was just being overly cautious, but she didn't want to his either [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] or herself with the bottles.

They clanked together again, causing Lori to hold her breath and widen the circumfrance of the tornado. The futher that she kept the bottles apart, the easier it might be.

Finally she got them on the ground. Though they didn't land on their bottoms, but on their sides and rolled. Lori let out her breath then.

"I'm....gonna need lot of practice with that one."

"Now that you know how to do it, should be plenty easy to practice now. Might want to stick with one bottle until you feel safe enough to use two. Last thing you want to do is accidentally break something. Or someone." He certainly wanted to make a point of that. Even though he said this ability could be used to incapacitate, it could just as easily kill. A sigh escaped him as he stood up, stretching his arms above his head.

"Well, I don't think I should keep you any longer."

Lori nodded, glad that [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] felt the same way in regards to her want of being cautious.

But then he wanted to go. That surprised her, and in all truth she probably couldn't hold him for long. But still. There was ONE more thing she wanted him to do first.

"Wait! Can you make me fly first? You said you would.. " She looked at him eagerly with her childlike self emerging.

Kahlil blinked for a moment, staring at [member="Loreena Arenais"] . Was that a promise he had made? Right, it was. He laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head as he glanced around. He wouldn't hurt her, right? Not if he was careful. "Alright, just hold still then." After that brief warning he'd hold up his hands, close his eyes, and focus. Slowly the wind began to pick up, swirling around the young woman until eventually she would be lifted to float in the air.

Lori grinned as [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] agreed to do it. So she stood very very still. Well....at first she closed her eyes. But then she opened them up again in a flash once the wind picked up.

"Ohhh....wicked!!" Her feet lifted off the ground and she was half surprised that she wasn't spinning around in circles. "Who needs a ladder or jetpack when one can do this!!" Lori laughed and held her arms out to the sides with her head held high. Oh yes, she was having too much fun.

Just imagine the pranks and traps she could spring on people with this....

"It's not too easy to control, so don't get too reliant on it. A Jetpack or a ladder doesn't exhaust you as much." Kahlil let out a chuckle as he watched her, though it faded for a moment as something seemed to change. Slowly he let the wind die down to set [member="Loreena Arenais"] back onto the ground, and tilted his head curiously. "You had quite a terrible thought, didn't you?"

"Oh I wouldn't rely on it. But it'll be great to use in a pinch when I don't have my other stuff handy."

She watched as [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] set her down gently. However the smile that he had disappeared. Lori's brows furrowed at his question and she couldn't help but take half a step back. "What?--No. I'm not terrible. What makes you think such a thing?"

"I never said you were. You just made a face that reminded me of one of my brothers. Whenever he figured out something to prank the family with, well." He shook his head. It was odd talking about his family. Anyway, he gave [member="Loreena Arenais"] one last wave and a smile as he turned. "I do have to head out though. Take care, Loreena. I'll see you sometime, yeah?"

Lori raised a brow at [member="Kahlil Zambrano"] as she folded her arms across her chest. She wasn't fond of people trying to figure her out. Especially when she hadn't figured her own self out yet!

"Yeah sure. See you some other time." Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows? It was a huge Galaxy and she didn't spend much time on the eastern side. It was kinda better to be around strangers instead of with people that knew her and had expectations.

She felt like she was a better person on her own. Life was ....simpler that way.
