Unknown Regions Salvage (Open)

Lenix piped up "I'm a slicer, but these voice locks are difficult for even a skilled slicer like myself. I risk corrupting his memory file if the program detects me hacking in. And the memory of this droid is like finding an old Republic soldier frozen in an ice drift. A look into the past. We need a way to get this voice lock going..."

Min snapped her fingers in response. "I can do this! Give me a minute," she said excitedly. She reached into her bag and grabbed her personal comm device. "D4, I need you to get over here at once, we need you to come and help us slice into one of your compatriots. He has the cure for a plague we found on this ship. Get to the docking bay aboard the Indefatigable immediately!"

Min snapped her comm off. "My personal droid is a utility droid from this era, T3-D4. He has slicing capabilities and can interface with similar droid models. Give us fifteen minutes and D4 should be able to get at the cure," she said.

"I knew my ancestor David had a reason for salvaging that little guy!" Min said aloud.

[member="Lenix Ornil"]

Lenix smiled and nodded "Hmm, that could work, though I'm doubtful..." he looked over to Wan Min's hand where the Datapad is curiously "What's that by the way? Datapad? Mind if I take a look? I might be able to download some ship statistics. My droid can read them but I don't like him downloading. Sometimes the deteriorated code can corrupt data."

Meanwhile R5 and the salvage droid were off to inspect the fighters and the shuttle, finding them mostly intact, though with a few well torn battle scars across their bodywork, and a few blaster marks from the battle in the hangar. They look around the interior of the shuttle, finding more unfortunate bodies, Engineers trying to escape the battle by locking themselves in the shuttle, but finding it unfueled with no EVA. Dying from starvation....

Min waited patiently for her droid to arrive. After what seemed like forever, her trusty droid rolled into the docking bay and beeped at her in an annoyed fashion. "Hey! Don't take that tone with me, I've got a job for you. See that droid over there?" Min asked impatiently. The droid beeped affirmatively at her. "Good, I need you to go over and slice its memory. Be as careful about it as possible, we don't want to screw up its memory or corrupt its files," she explained. The droid chirped at her in an annoyed tone again and rolled over to the other utility droid. D4's small robotic arm emerged and it began the laborious process of slicing the other droid. Min walked over and watched as her faithful, if quirky and annoying, companion completed his work. She handed it the datapad with the Captain's voice recording and waited as it finished the slicing. D4 hit the play button and the small droid's storage compartment opened, revealing the cure plague. Min walked over and gingerly retrieved the vials and placed them in a small storage pouch on her suit.

"Well Mister Ornil, I'd say you owe me a drink! Two vials of genuine Sith Plague cure!" Min loudly exclaimed. She walked over to the small Squib and motioned for him to follow her.

Min toggled her comm. "Mister Temi, we have your plague cure right here. Meet us on the bridge and we'll discuss your remaining virus samples."

She looked down at her droid and told it, "You're following me up to the bridge. Have your new friend over there follow us as well, and make sure that you close his storage compartment," Min said, cocking her right thumb at the other utility droid.

"Now that we've done something of a survey, I'd say that it's high time we head to the bridge and start working on getting the internal scanners operational, close the remaining hatches, and get this ship ready for towing to the salvage orbit. After that, we can do a full inventory of the Indefatigable and decide how best to divvy up our spice mine!"

"Why Mr. Ornil, you never cease to amaze me! Next you will tell me you're a Jedi Knight as well," Armand joked good-naturedly into his EVA comlink when the Squib announced he could slice into the mainframe. While they may not have needed anything that sophisticated it did certainly help to have a slicer on board. "You're a resourceful fellow," the Hapan continued. "I may just put you on my payroll by the end of this." He was half-serious. The Squib had proved himself to be incredibly handy at just about everything. The Hapan doctor chuckled to himself and was glad the crew seemed less tense. A little levity goes a long way, when you're stuck in Wild Space with a limited supply of oxygen and a life-threatening live virus on board a shipwreck, he thought.

"Prudii and I are making our way to you. We didn't find much in the medbay," he said. Armand moved slowly through the corridors of the wreck in his mag boots. When he heard Ms. Brightsky's enthusiastic voice bursting through his comlink stating they had recovered the virus cure, Temi was relieved.

Ms. Brightsky would first see his flashlight signaling his return. Then the tall Hapan doctor entered the ship's main control room. Armand set down his carrying case and undid the combo lock. He opened it and motioned to the case. "The three samples in the secure containers are the virus samples. I would like to retain this one for study," he said, pulling out a fourth less secure looking container with the mutated virus and the accompanying flimsi film. "It's not dangerous according to the data. I would also like access to the cure. The live virulent samples can be destroyed and how do you suppose we do that?"

The squib looked as if he could hug D4! "My! I will eat my words, your droid is skilled!" he chuckled, giving D4 a pet on his flat dome head "I'll be able to upload his memories and data readings to an archive then find a nice collector or museum for my new buddy here" he chuckled "He'll fetch a high price from either!"

He allowed the droid to follow D4 and responded to Armand's call with a smile "Glad my skills are being recognized! I'm sure we could come to a deal or two in the future my friend" he smirked

"The ship is anchored well with Thunderflash's tractor beams, and if I use my magnetic clamps to carry it we can have it in orbit by the day's end. Then I think negotiations and a well-deserved rest for us all" he smiled

[member="Armand Temi"] [member="DasGeneral"]

Min nodded at the Squib's statement and put on a bright grin. "Mister Ornil, I believe that is the best idea I've heard all day!" She said as she motioned for him to follow. "D4 is a pretty special little droid. My ancestor, David Brightsky, salvaged him somewhere in the Tingle Arm way back when, centuries ago, and he's been with my family ever since. He's got a strange sense of humor and likes to ignore my commands half of the time, but I wouldn't trade him for anything," Min said affectionately and patted her droid on the head. D4 blew a raspberry at her. "See what I mean?"

She, the Squib, and Alena made their way to the command deck and awaited Temi's arrival. As they waited, she rummaged through her bag and looked at her finds. "Lightsabers, blasters, data chips, datapads..." She stopped as she came across the Indefatigable Captain's commendation and family picture. She held it out for a second and shined her suit light on it. She felt a connection to him and his crew. "...Personal items. Mister Ornil, this debris field is the payday that all of us have dreamed of. I'm looking forward to finding another few ships before we leave and getting some more salvage. If you don't mind, I'd like us to figure out a way to split the droids between us. I'm partial to the old Utility Droid models and I'd like to have some company for D4 over there," she said as she cocked her thumb at her droid, who was slowly circling his compatriot and beeping at him. "I think he needs some company..."

Just then Temi and Skirata arrived on the bridge. "Mister Temi, your virus cure," she said and handed him the vials. "Go ahead and keep the deactivated, mutated virus for study. As for the live virus, I think it's best if we dump it into the escape pod with the rest of the payload and blast all of that chit into the local star where no one can find it ever again," Min said. She was grateful to have the whole thing over and done with. The virus had been a shock to her and she was happy to be done with it.

"I talked it over with Ale over there, and when we are done salvaging the Indefatigable, I'd like us to collect all of the bodies of the crew and return them to Republic authorities on Selvaris. They've been out here long enough and deserve a proper burial. We can always tell the Republic that we found them on the Indefatigable. They don't need to know that we salvaged it. I want to come back to this debris field and continue salvaging it in the future. Anyone disagree or want to comment?"

[member="Armand Temi"] [member="Lenix Ornil"]

Lenix looked at the droid and nodded. Being around droids for most of his work life he had a spot for those with personality. "I do understand Miss Min, I wouldn't trade R5 for my life!" the dumpy red astromech behind him warbled and blooped to the Squib about being sappy with an electronic chuckle. "You may take him, but I'd like to copy his memory data and historical records. I'd like to sell the data to an eager collector." he found this fair to his mind, seeing as the data would still fetch a high price "But I would be happy to let you keep the other T3 droid. I found a few broken ones that I can sell for parts anyway, though you may take a couple for repairs. Can't imagine D4 is cheap to run!" he chuckled.

"And I'd say we have a gold mine here, so why leave it for others?" he smiled "Also I found something that may interest you about our little secret mission we discovered" he smirked

[member="DasGeneral"]

Min was happy to hear about the little droid. "That's great, thanks Ornil, or can I start calling you Lenix now?" She asked jokingly.

When he mentioned the secret mission she was intrigued. "What did you find out about our little secret mission?"

[member="Lenix Ornil"]

Armand smiled at Ms. Brightsky, relieved that they could come to an agreement about the bio-matter. The virus cure and mutated virus would give him something to study back on Hapes and could also be publishing material for a research journal. He would alert the Queen to what he had found as soon as he had returned to his home planet.

To show good faith, The Hapan doctor removed the three containers with the live virus and tucked them into another storage container nearby, also sealed but not locked. "There," he said, wiping his EVA gloves off on his suit. "Ready for the escape pod."

He then put the vials back into his case and closed it. "This is a goldmine for me, but it sounds like everyone else found some valuable goods as well. Is there a manifest anywhere of what we found and if not, I'd be happy to draw one up." It was the least he could do since he realized he had caused so much concern for the crew.

Lenix smiled "You may call me Lenix ma'm. And well, the main Nav computer is wiped, but our little friend has the ship's final destination in his databanks." he nudged R5 with a firm bump who clicked before booting up his hologram generator from his farthest left eye. It showed the nearby planet, visible from the portside window, and zoomed in on the surface, showing a small area in a mountain range.

"There's no known base there at all in most records. Though R5's are incomplete they contain most of the old bases. You following my thoughts?"

"I am not sure about that Armand, but it'd sure be a good Idea." Prudii thought about all of the lightsabers that had been found by nearly everyone on the operation, and realized that was a lot of weapons that could end up in the wrong hands, and he most definately didn't want that to happen. "I have been thinking about this for a while now, and I was wondering if everyone would allow me to buy the lightsabers that we have salvaged today. I have been thinking that if we sell them, they could find their way into some bad hands, and that would be some bad stuff. So I was thinking about buying them at 30k a piece from those who picked them up. I have a freind that is a jedi, and believe he wouldn't mind making sure they get to a safe place. If yall wouldn't mind thinking about it, that would be appreciated."

Min was excited by the opportunity to explore a Republic base, especially one as old as this one sounded like it would be. "That sounds great Lenix! I had no clue that there was a base in this system. I assumed from the records that the Republic fleet was stopped here for a short while before they moved on towards the Core Worlds. I'm game for a little base exploration!" She said excitedly.

"Verd, if you don't mind my calling you that, I was hoping to hold onto one or two of these lightsabers. I never really mentioned it but I'm Force Sensitive. I was never trained, but it's always been something I've wanted to explore if and when I got the chance. Now that I've finally found lightsabers, I might want to see about finding a master or a knight to train me. That and I want to keep one more as a souvenir. This is the best salvage run I've ever had, and you all are the best crew I've ever worked with by far. I'd say that is deserving of a souvenir to remind me of!" Min said, giving them all a large grin.

She grabbed her salvage kit and walked up to the front of the bridge, motioning Lenix and Verd to follow. "Before we go exploring the base, let's get this old ship at least sealed off from vacuum," Min said as she flipped a few toggle switches on the console and brought up the ship status display on the main console monitor. "Lenix, if you want to get over there on the left-hand side console nearest to me, I think while I'm closing the hatches and airlocks you can bring up the structural integrity fields. We need emergency fields around the heavily damaged sections. Once we've got that, we can start doing up our inventory and get the Indefatigable ready to move!"

[member="Verd Skirata"] [member="Lenix Ornil"]

Alena was glad Lenix and the droids were able to help secure the cure for the virus found aboard the ship. She was even more excited to find Armand had secured an impotent form of the bioweapon that could be used only for research. For the first time that day, Alena was wanting to smile, though she allowed only a polite nod to the physician. "I'm happy we've found that middle ground we were looking for, Armand, and that the danger will be destroyed." She told the man. "And that it was done so peacefully. I apologize for pointing weapons at you, and can only hope you understand why I did." As for their remaining salvage plans, Alena was also happy. All that was left to do was secure the corpses and artifacts on board, prep the ship for tow and then identify their next set of targets for when work on the Indefatigable was completed.
Alena glanced at Skirata as he asked about the lightsabers they'd found. She was willing to part with the dual-bladed lightsaber, but wanted to keep the damaged one to herself. Seeing as no one but Min knew she'd found it, Alena left it unmentioned, but handed over the working saber to the Rebel. "As long as they end up in good hands." She told him. "Don't worry about pay, we'll be making plenty off the salvage. Keep it."

"I don't mean the ones you would like to keep as souvenirs Miss Brightsky, I just meant The ones you weren't going to be using. I myself would like to hang on to one or two of them, as I am force sensitive too. I just meant that the majority of them should go somewhere where they can be utilized properly, and for a good cause." He paused, hoping that he explained his motives clearly. He was willing to pay a hefty price for the sabers, so that the greater good of society would prevail. he knew there were at least 24 sabers on this ship, as there were about a dozen Jedi and Sith that were killed here; at least that is what Piraiba had said before. and that meant there was a significant amount of harm that could be done, if the right precautions were not taken.

Min nodded at Verd's statement. She had always wanted to get her hands on a lightsaber and now she had three! She moved over to the comm station after she and Lenix activated the internal systems. "Doors, hatches, integrity fields, emergency fields, all activated!" Min exclaimed as she and Lenix completed the checklist. "Gentlebeings, we've got ourselves a semi-functioning Hammerhead! The Indefatigable is back to life once more!" She said excitedly. She ran her finger over the system status report on the computer monitor. "Hyperdrive is inoperable, one fusion core running at 70% efficiency, all others deactivated and awaiting orders. Ship's engines reporting inoperable but RCS and attitude thrusters showing positive function. If I'm reading this right it looks like we've still got a handful of concussion missiles in the stores...We still have a few hatches refusing to answer to commands, probably frozen gears. I guess we'll have to deal with that later on..." Min read aloud as she finished scanning over the ship status. "I'm activating emergency fields around all hatches just so we can activate the environmental systems and get some atmosphere again," she explained.

Min walked over to the comm system station. "If you all don't mind, I'm going to turn on the comms and see what we can pick up. If all goes well, we should at least be able to pick up some HoloNet transmissions," Min said as she threw the toggles for HoloNet. "This...this doesn't make any sense. I'm getting jumbled messages and corrupted transmissions from all over the HoloNet frequencies. Even out here we should be able to pick up solid signals from the Core Systems. Wait...wait...I've got an incoming HoloNet transmission from Selvaris. Putting it on the main viewer," Min said as she activated the HoloNet receiver and patched it through to the computer system.

"This is the Selvaris News Service, if you have not yet done so, please switch to Emergency Subspace Frequency Kilo-One for all planetary government updates. This is a planetary emergency. We are receiving fragmented reports from our HoloNet receivers that billions of people have vanished and chaos has spread across the galaxy. Republic authority has collapsed across Selvaris as military and government personnel have simply vanished. A large portion of the Selvarian population has disappeared as well. Local military and police forces are trying to maintain order in the Selvarian capital, but are facing stiff resistance from rioters and armed insurgents who have seized control over several important planetary government buildings, including the now abandoned Republic Embassy in central Selvaris City. Contact was lost with the Bilbringi System at the time of the disappearances, along with several other systems. For all intents and purposes, the Selvaris Government has declared that the Republic appears to have collapsed and no outside assistance will be arriving. Government officials are asking all citizens to remain in their homes and to await further instructions. We repeat, stay indoors and await further instructions. If you have lost a loved one, relative, or close friend, we ask you to please not contact or attempt to contact the police or military forces as they are currently overwhelmed with current requests for information."

"To any ships currently in transit from or to Selvaris we ask you to contact local traffic control before attempting to land. If you can, please stay aboard your vessels and do not attempt to land unless it is absolutely necessary. Air traffic in and around Selvaris is dangerous at the moment and it is in your best interests to stay in orbit until local authorities can regain control over incoming and outgoing traffic. If you have any information regarding the current status of the Republic or any other governments, please contact the Selvarian Military Communications Center at the following frequency..."

Min stared at the screen in shock. "What in the Force is going on out there?"

[member="Verd Skirata"] [member="Lenix Ornil"] [member="Armand Temi"] [member="Alena"]

Min looked around the command deck in total confusion. She was unsure of what to do, and for the first time since the One Sith invasion of Coruscant felt totally vulnerable. "I...I...I don't know what to do. Ale, what do we do? This is beyond anything I could have imagined. We're out here alone with no network of support and the galaxy has just collapsed into chaos. I'm...I'm scared," Min said. She looked around the bridge for a moment, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. Her whole world had just been thrown into absolute chaos. But, for the first time in her life, she felt a sudden urge to take control. She started to feel an inner strength that she had never tapped before. She knew that in order to survive they'd have to scrape by and build what they could.

"Lenix, I think we need to get the Indefatigable under tow and get to that base. For the time being, I think we'd better stay off the subspace radios. We don't want to draw attention to ourselves. If it's useable, we should stay there for a day or two, figure out what to do and where to go. I'll see if the Star's End can run a scan and find another cruiser that is salvageable. We might need them if things are as bad as it sounds on Selvaris. We need weapons, shields, anything that we can scavenge in this debris field to get two cruisers up and operational. Lenix, see if the short range scanners work on the Indefatigable. If so, we should see about finding another cruiser or a corvette. Verd, Temi, you two should get down to the engine room. Look over the damage on the hyperdrive core and modulator, see if we can't get it up and running. If not, we'll figure out what to do."

"I think we're going to be on our own for a while, especially if this...event is as widespread as it sounds. We need to get to that base as soon as possible with the Indefatigable and another cruiser or corvette. See what materials they have on hand and see about getting these ships running. Then, we need to get back to Selvaris. Verd, I need you to contact Forecaster, see if there are any Alliance personnel in the area that we can call on for assistance. If it's as bad as it sounds we should try to help out on Selvaris as much as possible."

Min looked down at her Alliance communicator and read off the communique from Alliance command. "I've been put in command of the Alliance fleet. Oh Force...what do I do now?"

[member="Verd Skirata"] [member="Alena"] [member="Lenix Ornil"] [member="Armand Temi"]

What Armand had heard from the emergency transmission, chilled him to the core. His first thought was that this disappearance of millions of galaxians was somehow related to the virus they had on board and it made him feel guilty he even considered taking it back with him. But he quickly realized the two events were not connected. At least that is what it seemed.

His prior Royal Navy training helped him to quickly snap into action. In a matter of fact way he said: "Ms Brightsky, I'm not a mechanical engineer. Lenix may be better at assessing the hyperdrive core but Mr. Skirata and I will go in the meantime." He made his way to the shipwreck's engine room, his flashlight leading the way. He tried to focus on his current actions, but his mind kept flitting to the disappearances? What if his family was gone? What if the Hapes Cluster had been thrown into anarchy?

Lenix wandered over to the confused and worried Wan Min and held up his own communicator to show her, a large symbol flashing, calling him to be summoned to the Red Ravens "You see? We're all being called by our factions. Whatever this is people are worried. And when people are worried, mistakes can happen. If those worried people are our commanders? I wouldn't trust them honestly. Especially with something this severe sounding."

He explained his concerns. Though he had little connection with the Ravens anymore his point still stood. Something big had happened, and it seemed scared people wanted to take action however they could to make themselves feel safer. Lenix didn't like it. It usually meant confusion and high risk without any favourable outcome. "I suggest we stay here and finish what we started. That Republic base will likely still have it's fusion core intact if it was merely abandoned, and my ship has rations for about six months between ten people, so we should be able to survive plenty well enough. Though we'll need to leave our hammerhead friend in orbit. No way I'll be able to carry that thing down into the atmosphere, even if your ship helps." he looked up and gave Wan Min a reassuring smile; he didn't often enjoy being called "cute" by other beings, but he knew how to use it well when he needed it "We'll be much better off here. At least until everything calms down"
