Welcome to the Library

Matsu had not seen her padawan in a long time but a lot had been happening and changing. Which allowed her after Omega to get a few things. One of them was the construction of the massive library station that would serve to work with the other ones here. Matsu herself had been working on a lot of the information tey had this was after all going to be the be all end all of jedi stations. Something so large few others could really compare or use it while she crossed her arms bringing up the information for herself. To let others on here was also a big thing as they were using the library itself to become a preservation temple in many cases. Going to worlds and reconstructing as best they could the ancient temples of the jedi itself, using their knowledge to being different things here and protect it with some of the most advanced systems that they would be able to. Jushua would be welcomed but they were heading towards somewhere else. Somewhere to go exploring while Matsu sat there working in the one room with the loom and her synthweaving.

After the Omega "Event", Josh had gone back to his business as usual. He had returned to the Outer Rim to continue his slave liberation operations, sabotaging slave rings and freeing their captives, and destroying their collars to guarantee their absolute freedom. He moved from planet to planet, following every lead that he possibly could in order to do what he felt a Jedi should do - be a peacekeeper, a protector, a savior, of the galaxy and it's people. The people looked up to the Jedi as heroes... The least they could do was fit the part instead of arguing amongst themselves and mongering for power, as his old groups had done instead of their jobs.

Josh had been called by Matsu to check something out, and the Jedi Master was happy to oblige. The doors would open as Matsu's former Padawan would step in, bowing gracefully to his former Master before speaking.

"Master Ike."

Matsu was looking at Josh arrive as the massive Library itself was there. The station was compared to many just what you wanted to ork with, reconstruction and transplantation of things into the biodomes were proving to be one fo the best parts as from the control room here you could see it all. You could work with it all and you could present a far more compelling and rooted experience for the ship itself. They had jilometers of station on the scanner and display that were showing up with hundreds of thousand of jedi and technicians moving around the area. Compared to some of her old libraries and archives which were able to fit in sections of the station here. "Welcome to the Library Joshua."

"Hi library, I'm Joshua"

That bit of snark was his response as he would merely smile and raise his head back up after the bow, looking around at the array of areas and archives that they contained, all around them. I was a marvel, really, how they managed to fit so much in just a single area. Or how they managed to collect this much, for that matter. But really, they were Jedi, what did one expect, really?

"Was there something you needed me for, Master Ike? Or is this a social call?"

"Well always need things, there is a lot to be said with everything that can be made here. The jedi themselves have been working to develop and push this into something far larger then any of the other things. Aside from when we found the Mortis Monolith or the Library of Manuals." She enjoyed it but they coudln't copy the massive planet sized and larger constructs. She had seen a number of other things as well when she was looking at him. "Though you make it sound like there is nothing social about when we meet Joshua. Just because I am not one to bore the ear with tea and sitting around. I'd rather be moving it is what keeps me young compared to the others I have met. Most masters would be jealous if they knew the levels of knowledge I have gotten from exploring while they sat around."

"On the contrary, Master! I find that social calls can be very enlightening experiences!" Josh would chirp back toward her, with a little smile on his lips as he stood beside her, looking to see what she was working on. But the smile definitely told he was being mischievous in some form. But in what form? Perhaps she'd find out as he spoke.

"See, last time I took social time out, I found out some very important information, Master. President Kay is an incredibly reckless speeder driver, and probably shouldn't be trusted behind the wheel of a speeder on-mission if you value your life. Now I know that if I'm ever having to go on mission with President Kay for some reason since she's an action oriented president... To throw her presidential arse in the back of the speeder and drive myself.

Boom! I just saved my arse with some very valuable information, and all it took was an afternoon out of social time. That is lifesaving information, Master!"

His smile had turned to a cheeky grin. He was joking, of course. But there was merit to his words in what could be learned in many different scenarios.

She was looking at him and shrugged when they were walking around. To get a couple of ideas for herself when she walked around the area of the Library itself. Construction was still ongoing, other things like retrieval was underway for themselves. She was looking at a number of things while the screens displayed them along with more of the jedi students that were here. Massive classes being taught in the wide open areas for the different teachers and they were coming around in the station towards the large shipyards. The massive superstructure of the ship on display for everyone who was working on it and around it some of the other ships. The stealth destroyers that were being worked on with the black hull plating, the rebuilt ships they were working to upgrade and develop for themselves. Matsu was looking at some of the other ships they were working on including the large and massive temple city ships that would be functioning like the kenobi ships for teaching and training to have the jedi working on things. "That can happen but there are alwas more thing to do. We have worked on many of the things for the jedi. Including what will become hopefully the first of many new sized training vessels that we will be able to send out."

Not a fan of jokes, huh? The Jedi Master would merely shrug it off in response as they would continue walking. Hey, it was worth a shot, right? Getting a smile out of Matsu Ike was rare, but Josh tended to try in the rare times he did meet up with his former Master. She was serious, and he... Well, he was generally quite serious, but in times like this, Josh was incredibly laid back and just wanting to make people laugh. Make people smile.

Because there was nothing wrong with spreading joy in a galaxy that didn't have enough of it, right?

He marveled at the in-construction workings of the ship, noting the little tidbits here and there.

"Another training vessel, huh? It's like everywhere I turn, some Jedi faction is trying to make them" He quipped back in turn.

She looked at him with a frown on her face though seeing hi but she had a small look on her face before she was moving and speaking. "I am a little disappointed Joshua. Comparing something I make to something commonplace. Comparing this vessel to something other jedi orders create is almost insulting." She didn't smirk but there was humor while she looked over more of the things there. Wanting to look over at a few of the things on the display. "Most other training vessels are barely functioning and trying to be something special but they devalue themselves in regards to actually being able to protect themselves. We might not have hundreds of guns but it isn't going to be unable to like many be struck and destroyed because it doesn't have shielding or point defense lasers to handle rocks and debris in space. Reconstructed temples for them all and some of the most advanced equipment that have been given to many of them with other training scenarios."

This wasn't the first time he'd heard Jedi training vessel. Republic Jedi, Silver Jedi, they always seemed to try. He hadn't meant to offend Matsu with the joke, but clearly he had without it being his intention. "My Apologies, Master Ike" He would return politely with a gentle bow, the across the pond accent of his voice emphasizing with the "a" in "Master".

Her explanation though, would prompt a nod from him. Huh... He could almost swear most times that he'd heard of a training vessel being made, they seemed to be linked to her. Maybe it was his mistake... Oh well.

"Fair enough, I suppose" He would remark, as he would peer around the vessel. "I've been taking Padawans again, as of late... I have two that are active right now, Padawan Starwind and Padawan Dresari. Both a bit rough around the edges, but their progress is going well."

She looked at him and grinned. She had taken on several padawans as well and trained them... some vanished, some like Sorel well they thrived and became skilled jedi knights on their way towards master. Though Sorel always came back to learn, the teaching never ended and knowledge never finished. That was why Matsu generally snickered at the jedi who seemed to think once you reached master you needed to stop learning. it was why she always moved through the times and onto different things. Here though as she was leading the way through you could observe more as there were a number of jedi operating and providing different aspects. Their newer and more slimmed down robes that they had been designing. The different types for different ranks and classes among the jedi brought some humor to her face as she was showing it off. The training robess for the padawan as they were coming around in different colors for different clans. "I have taken on a number of padawans as well but to well protect them made this." She touched the syn fabric of the robes. "SOmething only those dedicated to the lightside of the force can wear so no more secret sith and something that can protect from lightsabers easily. Stronger then beskar but lighter then phrik and it fuels the lightside of the force within a jedi."

Josh had taken many Padawans himself, of course. And yet he knew that he himself still had much to learn. He was a young Master, at the age of 25, and he knew that being a force user, he would have many years more, provided he wasn't killed in battle, in order to learn more and more and continue to further himself as a Master. He'd continue to learn from those more experienced then him. But it was funny when you considered that he himself had 20 years of experience, despite his age.

Still, he'd taken many a Padawan... Most had disappeared but some took the role of Knight eventually. But not many did. Josh was a tough teacher, and he refused to promote any but the best of his students. Adequate would not sit with him. They had to be ready. He would not promote until they were ready. And the times his Padawans had been forcibly promoted to fill out the Knight and Master ranks, without his permission... Well, where were they now?

Exactly.

He would note the robes with interest. "Geez, I might have to snag a pair myself" He joked in turn with a cheeky grin.

Looking. "We try to limit it, while the material can be produced easily by the jedi and there are experienced artisan's able to use it. It isn't something to just have around. Wintrium is interesting in the galaxy and few species have the patience to actually try and wait for it to be just right." Not to be said for having an artificial afger specifically designed with the purpose of well aging it bypassing the ten thousand years it would normally take to dry and cool. Then just letting it go from there at around thirty or fifty thousand years until it was ablle to handle lightsaber blades better then beskar that so many others found they needed and wanted to have. Matsu came to one of the halls that was lleading up as the Library looked out from a viewport to the expansive room and outside area they had fill with a one by one by one kilometer biocube simulating manaan with an aquatic temple that oceanic jedi were practicing with. "We've also made a number of advances in field studies for places. The Nidhog system hosts nineteen billion jedi and they are all willing to help."

"I was kidding around. It'd be cool to have lightweight armored robes, but I'm armored up under mine with something lightweight at least, so I'm not on a priority list or anything" The Jedi Master would remark in return with a light chuckle, shooting her a grin. At the least, he was trying to keep the mood light in all of this. He didn't know if Matsu was making jokes herself or not, it was hard to tell, really. She was very hard to read... Even for her former Padawan.

"Nineteen billion Jedi? Could have fooled me with the amount I've seen the last few years" He would remark, truthfully this time. "Perhaps I'm just not the social butterfly I was two or three years ago."

"No they stay in the system and have made the entire system into a massive fortress temple. They rarely go out into the galaxy so doubtful people have met them and all of their work has been to improving their teachings within the force." The jedi master was going while she set up more of it seeing some fo the robes that were there as she checked them out. Showing off all fo them as well as the massive suit of armor that was being worn by an equally large being. "And these are the heralds, our attempt to understand the goals of super soldiers, using the force and we have managed to enhance them with the force compared to others in the galaxy. Each one a follower of the lightside and they as trained force users."

"Fair enough" The Jedi Master would remark. He wouldn't argue. Maybe it was just because he hadn't seen many Jedi in the last few years, due to his tendency to work alone, that had brought that conclusion from him. Not that you could blame him, of course. Josh was distrusting to begin with, but for an Order to stab him in the back... Why would he want to work with them constantly again and show his back to them so they could stick a lightsaber in it? It was a fool's logic to trust those who had turned their backs to you, and stabbed you in yours. But at the same time... The Jedi were all he had.

"Interesting" He would remark as she continued to show the armored units off. "Super soldiers... Never thought I'd hear that term when it came to Jedi in any way, shape or form" Josh would admit, scratching his head.

"Tell me, Master Ike... There is a question I have been wondering for a very long time.

Are we soldiers? Infantry to be used by a higher power to what they desire, their goals? We train our entire lives for what I believed was a goal set by individuals, working not for a body with it's own agendas, but for the selfless goal of protecting the galaxy and it's people. But the last handful of years have made it so... Clouded.

It's as though all anyone looks at us as now is... Soldiers, tools. Assets to be used for someone's will. Whether that is what remains of the Republic, even if that will soon cease... Or another governing body, an overruling body...

... What -are- we?"

Matsu looked at him in terms of the heralds and she spoke. "Don't see why not, the jedi have always explored and experimented with ways to better understand and connect to the force. Even making it so their members could exist as living embodiment's of the force. It is something old and dangerous but it has been done and I have worked with some of the research notes to see where they succeeded and failed." THen he was talking about something else and Matsu looked at him while going seeing the parts of the library where the droids were handling things. "We are jedi, we have been trained to serve, to protect, to follow a code of conduct and orders." She waited for a moment. "Sound like anything else?" She stopped going into one of the rooms. "The training you receive as a jedi is how to follow in a groups, how to lead, how to think outside the box, how to survive and how to protect people. We are soldiers, we are taught how the ships, the equipment, the formations all function. Taught military history as well as jedi history, lore and study what has been done across the galaxy in different battles and campaigns to see what can happen or what could have been done." Matsu was showing some of the other things here, areas where small displays of different jedi were with names that were being etched as well as anything of theirs that was a personal effect. "The jedi work to protect the people. That usually means fighting because if they just stand there and are killed then the ones they are protecting will also die and any number of people after that. It is important that a jedi know how to survive and know how to win most of all instead of being at risk of just failing to protect people."

"Then we're soldiers" He spoke quietly, taking a breath as he closed his eyes. "The question is, are we our own soldiers? Our own independent force, that does what we have to do to protect the people? Or are we destined to do nothing but bend to the whims of others? To factions and governing bodies that consider themselves bigger and better then us, who think they should overrule us as they do the people? Are we destined to only save those who factions think should be saved? Or are we to be free, independent, to save who we feel it is right to?"

Josh would look toward Matsu a moment. "My question is... Are we our own? Or simply a tool, a utility?"

"Are you going to as a jedi rule over them instead?" She looked at him. "We are what we are, we do not rule the people we protect them sometimes even from themselves but unless we are going to go the route of the sith and take control we really don't have a place to say. Yes people will use us, yes people will abuse the good nature of the jedi for their own gains and yes it will keep happening because to be a jedi means you serve and protect. it does not mean you control and rule. I serve the force, it gives me comfort even when I am surrounded by jedi who spew poison and hate on the grounds they know me better then I do. I stopped thinking about it a long time ago and trust in the force."

"The Jedi rule over none... That is not our prerogative. We live to protect, not to rule... Nor do we serve. Not in the traditional sense, anyway. We serve... But we serve the galaxy, it's people... As it's protectors. That is the one entity we serve... Nobody should command us, as though we are tools, for their own means... That is what I see in my eyes, in my mind, in my heart... I am young in body, but I have seen two decades of fighting, I have seen people betray one another for the most trivial of things... I myself have been betrayed by people I trusted, because of selfish desires... People use people, but I refuse to allow us to be used by those who call themselves the controller of all, if we can help it.

And yet, I hear so many different philosophies... Many militant. Many who embrace the role people seek to make us, as tools, as common foot soldiers for their wars, as they claim that it is for our cause" He spoke, in response to her original question. He would listen then, to what she had to say. She had been his Master once, and this had been a matter of great turmoil to him... It was a given he would eventually seek out her counsel.

He would nod then, seeming satisfied with her answer.

"Then my idea has been correct... We serve the Force. Through the Force... We serve, and protect, the people. Nobody controls us, none do... But the Force."

He would bow in turn.

"Thank you, Master Ike, for your counsel."

And then something struck him. He'd heard her stories here and there, trained under her, grown to trust her as a friend and co-worker... But knew so little about her. Perhaps he should...

A breath escaped him, as he opened his eyes.

"Master Ike, I have trained under, and worked alongside you for years, but I realize that I know next to nothing of you. Where you come from, what you've seen, why you have come here... And why you remain here. Would you honor to indulge a young man's curiosity?"
