What is a Sith to you

Cody Weadge

Now you're just being a jerk. The purge of Force users carried out by Empress Madeline is part of an ongoing story, and as an admin isn't your job to be treating members and their stories with respect?

Also its expressly stated in canon that the Galactic Empire never once called itself the Remnant, nor the Fel Empire. It was always the Galactic Empire. When half the Roman Empire fell they never called themselves the Roman Remnant, they were the Roman Empire until the last.

George lucas had his fingers in nearly everything about EU particularly novels. The sith were designed to represent the bad guys while the Jedi were designed to be the good guys. The fact that people can't accept the simplistic clash of good vs.evil is so unbelievably beyond my ability to comprehend that I am left here assuming either the moral compass of society is so irrevocably broken that most people can't eacape their computer chair or I am an idiot. I hope I'm an idiot.

I would say [member="Darth Arcis"] hit the nail on the head.

There's nothing inherently evil in the Sith code and ideology. Just like there's nothing inherently evil in a Communist Dictatorship. Hell if a Communist Dictatorship worked it would theoretically be the most benevolent form of government there is. Sith ideology however, focuses around gathering power at the expense of others, and as they say, power corrupts.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

Look, this isn't hard to read. They ain't fucking around here. This is an aggressive, self-interested, potentially violent doctrine to follow. It is not inherently evil or wrong, but those things are all but inevitable given its writing. In contrast, the Jedi Code is very scholarly and focuses on learning and listening. It emphasizes control and a measured response. Beyond everything else, the two are definitely opposed, and that's going to color the character of the organization.

So Sith are generally selfish, crave power, despise limits and rules (at least rules that control them) and seek victory in all things. So yeah, not inherently evil, but if you know anything about human nature (and lets be real here, there's almost no really alien aliens in Star Wars) you know that 99.99% of the time, that means the Sith are gonna do evil things.

I agree with [member="Ordo"] here. They're obviously meant to be evil. That doesn't mean they can't be great characters or fun to roleplay. Who doesn't like to play the bad guy some times?

Anyone who says the Empire wasn't racist as all feth didn't watch the movies. You can't possibly tell me that this-

-isn't deliberately contrasted with these two:

Actually on topic, the Sith, to me are the murderers of my family and destroyers of my home planet of Alderaan.

So, boo on them.

Oh really?
That is amazing how the empire prefered sending aliens and lowlifes to hunt dangerous ememies rather than their own comandos. While those evil racist sexist rebels included a teenage girl to be a part of the battle planning as an equal...thank you for helping us see the light.

So a bar on Tatooine with aliens in it is a proof that the Empire was racist because there were no aliens among the commanders?

When the Empire employs a few alien bounty hunters, it is somehow much worse than the rebels hiring a smuggler and his walking carpet?

And Leia's mere presence among the rebels proves the Imperial sexism how, exactly?

Please stop trying to look for things that are not there.

Eh, that's trusting a lot in the writing ability and foresight of Lucas, which is pretty dubious, imo. I mean, the council on the death star contrasted with Mos Eisley, sure, but the senate from Episode I/II/III? Given how heavy-handed Lucas handles every other possible thematic element in the prequels, I don't think it even occurred to him.

Leia wasn't just present she was being briefed because she was one of the leaders. Mon Mothma, also a woman was the rebel leader. Admiral Ackbar was their greatest naval commander.

But since I shouldn't read into anything and call the empire evil I will just leave some text to decide the state of the empire's relationship with the galaxy below.
Episode IV: A New Hope - the one where we learn a blaster at your side is no match for a hokey religion…

"It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.

Pursued by the Empire’s sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy…."

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back – the one where things get icy between all parties involved.

"It is a dark time for the Rebellion. Although the Death Star has been destroyed, Imperial troops have driven the Rebel forces from their hidden base and pursued them across the galaxy.

Evading the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Luke Skywalker has established a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth.

The evil lord Darth Vader, obsessed with finding young Skywalker, has dispatched thousands of remote probes into the far reaches of space…."

Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi – the one in which the evil empire is taken down a peg or two.

Luke Skywalker has returned to his home planet of Tatooine in an attempt to rescue his friend Han Solo from the clutches of the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt. Little does Luke know that the GALACTIC EMPIRE has secretly begun construction on a new armored space station even more powerful than the first dreaded Death Star. When completed, this ultimate weapon will spell certain doom for the small band of rebels struggling to restore freedom to the galaxy...

Episode 1: The Phantom Menace – one in which Star Wars becomes a lesson in trade disputes and economic sanctions.

"Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute.

Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo.

While the congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict...."

Episode II: Attack of the Clones: – the one in which Yoda turns out to be a bad ass.

"There is unrest in the Galactic Senate. Several thousand solar systems have declared their intentions to leave the Republic. This separatist movement, under the leadership of the mysterious Count Dooku, has made it difficult for the limited number of Jedi Knights to maintain peace and order in the galaxy. Senator Amidala, the former Queen of Naboo, is returning to the Galactic Senate to vote on the critical issue of creating an ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC to assist the overwhelmed Jedi...."

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith – the one in which everyone dies, one way or another.

War! The Republic is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless Sith Lord, Count Dooku. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere. In a stunning move, the fiendish droid leader, General Grievous, has swept into the Republic capital and kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine, leader of the Galactic Senate. As the Separatist Droid Army attempts to flee the besieged capital with their valuable hostage, two Jedi Knights lead a desperate mission to rescue the captive Chancellor....

Nothing in any of that said the empire (run by a sith) was bad at all. Silly me. Neither was any comment made about rebels or Jedi standing for peace and freedom. What /was/ I thinking?
