Public When the Cards All Fold (Kaeshana/Invite)

Hevana Martin

Hair-triggered Super Soldier
While she did not want to leave, Hevana did want to see Coryth better. If glue somehow helped, well then she would darn well get some glue. Pushing down the part of her the hated taking orders from people not actually in charge of her, Hevana gave her love's arm one more squeeze. "I'll be back quickly dear. Once we we get this light show going then we can start prepping for the trip. Was expecting a couple days before we could leave anyway."

With a reassuring smile Hevana left the room and went to her air car. She knew just the place to get lots of adhesive quickly and for free (well free to her anyway, lieutenants were not exactly wealthy). Arriving at the Fireman bases vehicle bunker, she made her way to the maintenance storage. A soldier unlucky enough to pull desk job for the evening looked up as she approached.

"I need to requisition some adhesive, Kerrigan's orders," Hevana then made a show of flashing her datapad at the soldier, enough that he could see a message from Siobhan, but not read the contents. Which involved going to a bar to hang out a few weeks prior. Luckily he was bored enough to not do his job properly and waved her in. Or perhaps he just did not want to make Siobhan angry. Very few people were brave enough to face Siobhan Kerrigan when she was unhappy.

Entering the storage room, she found two fifty pound tubs of adhesive. Figuring that aught to be enough, she lugged them out and signed for them. Afterward it was another quick trip back to the hospital and Coryth's room. Keeping in mind to watch the work of the others, she set the tubs down with a thump. "There you go, your glue."

One of the benefits of being, well, in charge, was that you had minions to do most of the work you did not feel like doing. Like paperwork. Well, occasionally Siobhan had to do her own, but nonetheless. So Phylis, who was not really persona grata with the Space Elves, wanted shiny Force crystals. Long story cut short, Siobhan gave her secretary, Maerys Medea, a call and after a chat with a certain Eldorai Priestess of Ashira, who for some reason was quite happy to hear from the Countess and rather cooperative, the order went through.

Shortly thereafter, the crystals were delivered. There had probably been enough time for a coffee break in the interim. Or to have a smoke. Well, the hospital was probably a non-smoking area.

Location: Malachor V, Trayus Academy
Objective: Boost post count...err...do something evil. Or stop being bored!

Well, this place was a dump! I mean, seriously, say what you want about the Sith Lords who built it, they had little clue about proper interior decoration. Corridors upon corridors that...looked all the same. This was after she had spent ages walking across a jagged piece of uniniviting rock until she finally reached the Trayus Academy. Admittedly sneaking across the ground had been fun at the start since it had given her time to practice her ability to wrap herself in the shadows and render herself invisible to the storm beasts that populated this planet for...some reason.

But now it was just getting dull. For some logic defying reason the Trayus Academy still stood. Even Naamah had chosen to blow it up during her playthrough of Knights of the Republic II! For the simple reason that ruling from this dead husk of a planet seemed tremendously dull to her. The Exile had not even gotten a decent throne out of the deal. But then she had long concluded that the aforementioned Exile was a wet hen searching for relevance. Tossing that old bat Kreia into the chasm would have been satisfying...if not for the fact that if the Exile had brains she would have tossed her out of the airlock of the Ebon Hawk ages ago.

Oh, right, in this universe Kreia had been an actual person and so there was probably no video game about these events. Or maybe there was. Much like how Electronic Arts kept publishing shooters about fighting Nazis in Normandy...all because of that one movie. Anyhow, not like Naamah was that sane, so perhaps the voices in her head had told her about it.

Anyhow, on with the plot. Our Chaotic Evil Clawdite had been stalking across the halls of the Trayus Academy. Unfortunately for her, so far there had been no one to kill, so her playing with the shadows was more for her own amusement than anything else. Well, that and evading any Silver Jedi and troopers that may show up. Likewise, the interior decoration left much to be desired from her perspective because there were no curtains made of human flesh and hair, no stuffed out corpses lined up along the walls and no carpets made of Wookiee fur. If there were any beasts left, it seemed that the Silver Jedi had killed them when they took possession of the planet. Naturally the dark side was still strong in this place, tangible and full of power. It would have felt glorious...if not for the knowledge that the mistress of this academy, Darth Traya, had been a loon...

Yes, even by Naamah's standards.

HK-36

The Iron Lord Protector (Neutral Good)
[member="Coryth Elaris"], [member="Phylis Alince"], [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"], [member="Hevana Martin"],

The machine would nod to Phylis and unsheath one of his vibroswords. He would look about the bed to mark the points of the diamond with his sensors, and then it was just a matter of connecting the dots.

A scrape and metallic screech would be heard as he pressed the tip of the sword- just the tip, ladies- to the floor and cut thin lines to etch the diamond shape around the bed Phylis required.

It would be a quick but precise job for machine to do so, and once that was out of the way he had no chalk to draw the shape in, but he did have DUST. Taking one of the capsules he would smash it in his hands to get the grey powder from it, next all he had to do was pack the powder into the etching he made, sealing it into the floor due to its sticky properties most likely for more than few days. Plus they had a sensor perimeter around Coryth's bed now in case somebody would try to sneak in and disturb her during their absence. Neat!

Either way, with that done the machine would look to Phylis then to quip,

"You wanted a smiley face inside the diamond or something along the line as well?"

[member="HK-36"], [member="Hevana Martin"], [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"], [member="Coryth Elaris"]

Phylis, having retrieved her items from her ship, was busy setting them up when the droid spoke. Distractedly she nodded. "Yes, yes...." Then she seemed to understand what he said and shook her head. "No, no of course not! Thank you, HK."

Taking up the smaller crystals, she ground them up using a mortar and pestle designed specially for the task. When they were reduced to glittering shards she stood back, pleased.
Looking at the vast cartons of glue that Hevana had found, she hefted one onto the table with effort and opened it. Pouring it into a bowl she poured the crystals into the goop and used the Force to stir it together as well as she could. When she had a sticky goo of sparkles she started to paint it into the groove which HK had cut.
"I do hope that the hospital won't hold this against it." She shrugged though, to save a life mere room fittings were expendable.

Finally, after carefully applying a glittering mess evenly all around Coryth's bed, she stepped back and took out the four crystals set aside for the task. Siobhan, or whoever had chosen them, had selected well. They were all evenly sized, and she could feel them strongly in the Force.
"I'd take a step back, Siobhan," she said politely. Siobhan might be slightly less than pure white, but she was a friend, and common causes stranger than this had been made before.

Calling on the Force, Phylis directed the power of the Light from herself into the first crystal. Being attuned to the Force already it readily received her power, flowing into it and storing it like a battery. Soon it came to flow a faint blue, then brighter and brighter until it was a radiant ultramarine azure.
Phylis took a deep breath and sat, taking the first crystal down and putting it into place at one corner of the diamond. The object's power was obvious to Siobhan and Coryth, a reservoir of Force energy.
Unfortunately Phylis was not able to do all four at once, so it took over an hour of resting and meditation in between crystals before she was able to complete all four and set them in place.
Tired, but still pleased, she turned her attention to the floor where the ground crystals acted as a conduit between the main cardinal points.

Calling on the Force one final time she drew both on the stored energy of the crystals and her own power to empower the line between the crystals. With a final flash of blue-white light the air shimmered, the crystals joined with a band of light along the floor, and the a barrier had been formed.
Now very tired, Phylis flopped down into her chair, but she looked triumphant. "It's done...Coryth is protected. No Dark Power can now enter that diamond...unless the crystals were to be destroyed."

[member="Phylis Alince"] [member="HK-36"] [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] [member="Hevana Martin"]

Ah, the waiting game. It was something Coryth hated very much. Right now, there was little choice in the matter. It wasn't like anyone in the room was going to let her get out of bed and walk out of here. And they had a plan to keep her safe from the box for a time at least. One that didn't involve cutting her off from the force.

"Thank you, Phylis." The little redhead said quietly as her eyes drifted closed for a moment. It seemed that the woman might have actually fallen asleep, but soon enough she forced her eyes back open.

"It's fine ... Hevana. It's not like I'm going anywhere, anytime soon." Her voice, still barely above a whisper. Phylis clearly needed these items for the task ahead, and that was the best thing to be done to help Coryth.

The screech of metal against the tile floor was enough to make Cory cringe as she covered her ears to protect them from the sound. Somethings just hurt, no matter who you were. Only when the noise stopped did she drop her hands, sighing in relief. "Little warning next time, please."

Her eyes fluttered over to watch Phylis, as the Master prepared. Watch, and wait. It was all she could do as the box tore at her. As if almost able to sense what was coming and was trying to cling tighter to her mind in an attempt to keep it's power-hold over the tiny woman.

While the lengthy process was being done, Coryth drifted back to sleep though not peacefully as the poor girl shifted beneath the blankets, struggling against an unseen force. Nightmares, they'd always haunted our little redhead to one degree or another.

Whether it was visions, or something else entirely. Nightmares had always been a problem, and the box of doom, seemed keen to exploit that part of her while she slept. Only brief spells occurred where Coryth seemed to calm down for a bit before she would start to stir restlessly again.

It was when Phylis reached down to the line on the floor, and drew the Light into it that Coryth's thrashing ceased. The Jedi's eyes opened wide, crying out softly in pain, as she felt the connection between herself and the box severed completely. After awhile, her cries faded with the pain.

"It stopped..." She muttered in amazement, realizing for the first time in a long while her mind didn't ache. Had that pain always been there? And I just never noticed? Perhaps Coryth had been sicker for far longer than even she knew.

Reaching down, Coryth could still feel some measure of pain across her skin, but no where at the level it had been. Her hands stopped at a bandage against her stomach as she tugged at it, to look beneath it. A soft smile formed on her lips at the sight of fresh blood. It seemed the ooze had been stopped in it's tracks. "I'm bleeding ... my blood. Not that sludge mixture." She said, oddly happy to acknowledge she was bleeding... Most people weren't happy at such, but given what Coryth had been through, real blood was a good thing. "It ... it feels like the darkness isn't spreading anymore. It has stopped, along with the voices."

Exhaustion finally seemed to truly hit Coryth. For she knew that this was a much needed break. She didn't have to sit and constantly fight to stay one step ahead of the box, or the oozing blackness. It took all her strength just to stay awake now, resisting the tiredness for a moment or two more. "Thank you. All of you... It's a break... A chance that I very much need to try and heal. To recover before we go after this thing." She didn't know how much she could heal at this point, or how much was possible now. But at least the chance was there.

And so they waited for an indeterminate but probably rather long time. Would it be considered impolite if Siobhan spent some of the time checking her messages and reading a fashion magazine? Not like she had anything to do while Phylis performed her meditation and then carried out her ritual. See, these days it was the new 'in' thing for darksiders to perform all sorts of feats of evil sorcery to hurt people with, so it stood to reason that the light side ought to be able to perform sorcery to counter darkside magicks. Good Is Not Stupid. Nor is it soft. The tropes say so. Time passed and then the ritual was done. With a flash of blue-white light the air shimmered and the crystals came to life, fuelled by the power of light sided goodness and all that, joining with the band of light that formed on the floor, allowing the barrier to come into being. Coryth spoke and it took Siobhan a moment to register that her bleeding normally was a good thing.

"That's good. Very good. I'd...come over and give you a hug...but I don't think the light barrier will agree with my complexion," she said very dryly, because it would not be Siobhan without lame quips. In all likelihood the wall of light would burn her if she tried to step inside the diamon-shaped circle. Speaking of sorcery, she really had to go and kick [member="Mirien Valdier"]'s door in so that they could finally get to dabbling in darkside alchemy! Without the whole performing inhumane - and in most cases rather stupid - experiments on people because contrary to popular belief, Nazi medical experimentation was not efficient! Or intelligent.

"Thank you, Phylis," she said with genuine gratitude, patting the librarian on the shoulder and passing her a glass of water since she could probably use one. For now at least Coryth was safe from the vile whispers of an evil box of doom that for some undoubtedly malicious reason wanted to pull her to a burnt-out husk of a planet that logically should have been wiped from the face of the Galaxy almost a millennia ago.

Malachor V, Trayus Academy

Whisperings would be heard, angry at first. Oh, so angry. The little box of doom was not pleased about being cut off from his precious!

Stupid, meddling Jedi! She'll pay for this! For the box had underestimated Coryth's friends, and their connections. The whole academy would shake, and tremble as it lashed out, more than a little pissed off.

It was then that it seemed to pick up a certain familiarness in the air. A dark presence of similar mind to it. Reaching out, it gently whispered to [member="Naamah Aesham"]. Perhaps it could have a decent conversation, and find some entertainment while it waited. For it had no choice now. It could not force Coryth's hand from here. So it would have to bide it's time, plot and plan.... Eventually the little redhead would be coming to Malachor. Just, unfortunate that it couldn't be on it's terms.

Psst... You, yes you.... I can feel you near. A heart as black as night.... Yesss..... A kindred spirit I can see that now....

In the Darkness there is Truth
Malachor V, Trayus Academy.

After having wandered for an indeterminate amount of time, young Naamah finally found a plot-related reason to be here. Salvation from the endless tedium that was yet another dull corridor of the Trayus Academy came in form of a plot device. Or rather in the shape of a vile box of evil and darkness. Also apparently she was hearing dark whispers in her head again. Truth be told, this was no surprise to her. For a moment Naamah found herself wondering whether it was Satan talking to her again. He got terribly mopey about the fact that two hillbillies had locked him his cage again, though he had only himself to blame for that, and for some reason kept calling her Meg. Stupid angel could break his own seals this time. Ah, well, she could deal.

Voice in my head. So I'm not alone. About time. I was just getting...bored. There's no excitement here, no bloodshed, not a single soul torment. I liked Gehenna more. Oh, wait, she had not been to Gehenna yet! Naamah momentarily stopped dead in her tracks as she experienced a massive split in the space-time continuum before the timeline rearranged itself after having dealt with the ensuing existentialist crisis. This was very reassuring because it meant she did not have to wonder about how she could get a new hand.

Whoever had built the Trayus Academy had been a moron. It was a shame that Kreia woman was long dead because otherwise Naamah could have at least entertained herself by eviscerating her. Silly old woman with a stupid kill the Force plan. Never mind, she picked up on the metaphorical tendrils of darkness that were stretching out from the box and followed them to its source. The sensation of dark power, so strong that it felt like an ocean of hatred and rage, made her feel a good deal better, almost gleeful with enthusiasm.

Hevana Martin

Hair-triggered Super Soldier
Hevana had to force down a smirk as the great Jedi Master struggled with such a relatively light load. Smirking would have been vastly impolite, and she was helping Coryth so impolite would just not do. Besides she was a friend of Siobhan, even if Hevana had never personally met the woman she could not be all bad. Even if she was a member of the Republic.

So instead she fiddled with her vibroknife to occupy her nervous energy as she waited. When Coryth sat up Hevana smiled then hopped across the line, just in case stepping on it messed up the space magic. Looking back to the line, then back to Coryth, she shrugged. "Didn't feel a thing."

Moving over she sat on the side of the bed and took the sick Jedi's hand into her own. "Take all the time you need to rest love. Your safe here, and that means we can take however much time we need to prepare. Heck, maybe we can convince the hospital to let us take this portion of the room with us on the trip!"

"Yes, yes...."

Two metallic dings were heard as that was all the droid needed to start etching with his sword,

"No, no of course not! Thank you, HK."

And then another metallic screech as he had to stop himself, go figure a woman couldn't keep her mind set on something, am I right, fellas?

Anyway, while it wouldn't be a smiley face since the droid had to do it at an angle to not disturb Coryth's bed and Phylis' words stopped him midway through working, something more akin to ":S" would be now under Coryth's bed.

HK took a few steps back to look at his work and then he would turn to Phylis to tell her,

"I still expect to hear compliments about this later."

Before glancing to Cory to tell her,

"Sorry for the noise."

He would watch Phylis conduct her witchcraft then and ward Coryth's bed, looking to Hevana as she mentioned taking a portion of the room,

"Well we could always take one of those durasteel shields my Company or Siobhan's Angelii use and etch the same thing into it and repeat the ritual, whenever Cory would be in trouble then we can just throw it down on the ground and there you go, portable Dark Side-free bubble."

The machine would look to Phyllis and then to Siobhan,

"Me, one of my droids, or Siobhan can carry it, we would probably be going into the fray in full armor anyway, more encumbrance would not make much difference at that point. Plus I am faster on my feet than most if not all of you, so are my droids, and Siobhan has telekinesis with which to guide the shield."

"No kidding. I didn't expect to see results so quickly. It still hurt to feel it pull away so rapidly as the barrier went up." Coryth said quietly, the exhaustion showing through as she closed her eyes, just to rest them for a moment now. "And yeah I can't say I recommend it. I don't want you zapped like a spacefly in a bug zapper. I much rather like you the way you are."

A heavy sigh came, as she opened her eyes and looked to Hevana, squeezing her hand rather weakly. "Yeah, I know I can rest now .... Peacefully for a change. I'm just not ready to, quite yet." Right then, she had a few things she wanted to talk about, before she would let sleep happen. Even if her body really really needed the rest, it was going to wait for the redhead's schedule, not the other way around.

A worried expression crossed her face as she glanced around. "That thing ... has been in my head for a lot longer than I think I realized." She said sadly. "If I'm honest, I've had pain, headaches near constantly since a little before I returned from Unknown space." With some effort she shrugged, "I never really paid attention to it until now. Until Phylis did her work, and my mind no longer aches." It was all rather concerning, if she'd been ill for that long.... If the box had started to work it's magic on her a couple years ago, it made Coryth wonder if maybe the box, and it's threat didn't originate inside the known galaxy.

"We don't even know what this box is. We don't know what we are dealing with, or who exactly. How are we supposed to fight something like that? Who knows what powers it's got..." Those were the thoughts that were bothering her, in addition to one she had yet to voice. What if this thing came from outside of Known Space?

She smiled to HK, "It's fine, it was what was needed."

But the train of thought he was going on was interesting. "Something like that, might not be such a bad idea. Especially considering how draining this has been on me from the word go. I don't know how much more of it I can take. And it's not like this crap hasn't nearly killed me once already in this little misadventure straight from the lowest level of the seven hells."

Siobhan felt concerned when Coryth said that the box might have been messing with her for far longer than she had thought, but tried to remain composed outwardly. "We'll find those behind the box and bring them to justice as well. They won't escape anymore than the Sith Lord did." This one wonders whether our intrepid adventurers would know the Sith Lord's name by now. Well, presumably Coryth would, but no one had told Siobhan!

"The box wants to screw with your mind. We shield that, then a good blast of Force Light should kill it." She gave HK a nod after he brought up the point about the shield. "Don't think me carrying a Light Side enchanted shield will go well, but you or Hevana can carry one if Phylis is up for another ritual. The Eldorai have the Taegis battle shield and Firemane manufactures cortosis shields for the Angelii. I have a couple spare and get one here. Looks like you've found yourself another niche, Phylis, light sided alchemy." This made it even more necessary for Mirien and Siobhan to start dabbling in Dark Is Not Evil darkside alchemy.

Hevana Martin

Hair-triggered Super Soldier
"Carrying a shield wouldn't be hard, things are meant to be carried after all," Hevana said with a shrug. "I just wonder at the practicality of lugging such a thing around. I need to be quick on my feet while fighting, and carrying around a delicate shield would hamper that. A droid carrying it would require the droid keeping up with Coryth... and that's hard enough for most people already."

Pausing to visibly think for a moment, Hevana tapped her finger against Coryth's hand idly. Quite a few options popped into her mind, but she immediately dismissed most of them. Especially the idea that involved gluing it to a pole and tying that to Coryth. Funny image perhaps, but not an ideal solution. Although it did have merit in a certain regard. "Can the shield of light thingy be used upside down? Then Coryth could just hold it over her own head with the Force. That, or we attach a repulsor to it and somehow rig it so it stays over her."

Phylis had been packing up her materials, not really listening to the chatter. Finally she listened to it and frowned.

"No, no, not necessary. Coryth only need carry the crystals with her. Combined they will give her enough power to resist...for a while."

"Sith artefacts though are very difficult to destroy. Force Light may not be enough to destroy it, merely render it dorment until I can get a permanent solution. I assume you'd like me to come along?"

The machine would nod in acknowledgement at Phylis' explanation,

"How many of such crystals would you be able to bless with wards?"

He would look to others,

"We are heading into a place of great evil and darkest of powers, it may be a good idea for each of us that are able to carry such crystals-"

He would glance to Sio at that,

"To indeed carry them for protection. This artifact has also shown to be able to influence and contact minds of you organics, obviously. As much as I would not want to bring up such a matter but if it will lead us to whomever controls it, created it, or is bound to it in any way, you may face an telepathic and deceptive onslaught of sorcery."

HK would bring up to others before looking to Sio,

"You have been touched by the Dark Side Taint, Sio, it could make you more susceptible. We should consider a possibility of your mind becoming compromised during action and protect ourselves against such scenario while we have time, it is better to be prepared and have nothing happened, than to have nothing prepared if it does happen."

The droid would look to Phyllis again then,

"If Siobhan's mind would become controlled and used against us, would your crystals be able to diffuse her lightning attacks?"

The Box of Doom, prickled with joy, delighted to have someone of like mind to speak to.

You were never alone here. A shame I did not notice you before. While there may not be a soul to torment here now, there will be soon enough.Perhaps you'd like to sit, and stay a while? It could be entertaining. Though, I must admit this place is no where near as fun as the Rishi Maze....There were devoted followers there... Who understood the need for bloodshed, to feel a heart stop within a being's chest, to feel their life slip away into oblivion.

A Plot Device! One that was an artefact of evil that shared her joy for tormenting souls. For it was only through pain that they would recognise their true nature and embrace Chaos. Naamah was full of joy at this unexpected turn of events.

The Rishi Maze? I have not heard of that place. I can find true acolytes of Chaos there? Who do not deny the pleasure they feel at obliterating a soul, crushing its hopes and tearing it apart bit by bit? It gets so dull with the 'Sith' these days. They've all become namby-pamby whimps who yammer about how they're bringing 'order to the Galaxy'. And who will be coming to this death world to be crushed? Is it a Jedi? Full of hypocrisies and with a shiny halo?

Yes, Naamah was getting just a little bit excited. So far she liked the box more than Lucifer because seriously he had been a pansy. Always whining about how God loved the humans more than him. For her part Naamah could understand why Michael had thrown him into the cage.

Coryth sighed, but her worried expression remained. At this point, far too tired to keep all her defenses in place, the little redhead relaxed them a little bit. Her emotions no doubt would be felt by the others, but only slightly so.

"And if the people behind this box didn't come from Known Space? Does that mean we will venture there to find them?" Another sigh followed, "Xerxes, is dead and gone thankfully, even his clones.... So that isn't a problem, but I get the distinct feeling he was merely a distraction in this mess." She was more than grateful that the Sith Lord couldn't haunt her any longer. "I'm just glad he's gone, and he can't hunt Jewels down." Her kid, the one thing she had done her damnedest to protect from the start, from even herself.

"I'd certainly love to learn that, Phylis. Seems it could be quite useful." She spoke quietly, as she leaned back in her bed to rest, quite obviously growing more weary by the moment, though Coryth would never admit it aloud. "I'm not sure what would be the best with the crystals, I just would like a fighting chance to get out of this alive." Coryth squeezed weakly against Hevana's hand. There was a very real chance that she might not survive. She knew it, they knew it.

She looked over to Phylis as she spoke and nodded slowly. "Yes Phylis, I'd really like for you to come along. I'm not entirely sure I have the strength to do this alone." As much as she hated to admit that she might need the help, she couldn't let pride get in the way, not with so much on the line this time. "None of us know what we are up against, and whatever it is, I get the distinct impression that it's quite old, perhaps even ancient. Either way, I'm going to need the help to try and destroy it."

Shifting slightly she looked to HK, he had a valid point. "Hk's right. This box invaded my mind, and I pride myself on being able to defend against such mental attacks. And I couldn't keep this thing out forever." The idea of it, made her a little sick to her stomach to think about. She didn't want to see the others get hurt, not to this degree, on her behalf. "It might be able to reach out into your mind, or Hevana's, or even Phylis and do who knows what. I would sincerely hope not. I don't want to see anyone hurt, or worse because of me." Always worried about others before herself.
