Where better to meet a Padawan?

Sorel Crieff

Ready are you? What know you of ready?
Sorel was pleased Krass took her advice to get nourishment and rest. There was a tendency to get carried away with the crafting of a new saber and for the Padawan to over-exert themselves and risk injury.

Sorel decided to delay the re-crafting of her sabers, unsure how long she’d take, and decided to undertake the activity before they left the station. Instead she showered, ate and booked a training room in the facilities.

Then she left word for Krass to meet her there when she was ready. It was time for her Padawan to learn how the blade would perform in a duel.

Krass looked at her master and as she headed out she was going to the mess hall where there were a number of jedi and the biot droids who were attending to the library. The temple guardians a lost art and construct the jedi had were there looking over at everything. SHe could see some parts of it when she was eating and drinking, enjoying the taste of the sweet drinks her people and the valkyrie or as she considered them those oversized ones who wore more fur then she knew what to do with them. She was getting a small look on her face as she finished uo going to sleep for a small amount of time and get cleaned up. Wearing the guardian robes for herself and getting some of the equipment itelf when she went to join her master in the training room itself with a look at her. The hammer there on her hip and she had brought the small blade of sorrow that was worked and set up for them to use. "Master I am ready for anything."

Ready are you? What know you of ready?
Sorel was fully rested when Krass joined her in the training room. She had been meditating - Serenity was the technique in particular she’d been practising. It was a brief meditative state that a Jedi could enter into to regain focus and power. Because it required patience, inner strength, and a deep connection to the Force, this ability was only attainable by Jedi Masters – and so was a Force ability Sorel was only just learning – but she had made some progress.

She welcomed her Padawan with a smile. “I think you were born ready,” she said and performed her customary bow.

She pointed to the hammer that Krass had adapted into a lightsaber. “And that is key to the next lesson.” She took one of her own sabers off of her belt and adjusted the power setting to training mode. “Using a saber you have crafted is unlike using another’s weapon. The connection you have forged through the crafting makes it so. As you will discover as we practise.”

Sorel removed her cloak and threw it into a corner of the room. “Now, do you have a favoured Form?”

Hmm what form did she favor, it was uncertain to the small padawan as she was thinking about it. Wanting to see some of the things themselves when she was looking at all of it with the padawan. She disconnected her saber from the hilt of her hammer and looking at her master she was thinking about it when she helld hmm. "Hmm, I am not certain which one would fit with me. I've looked at them but they don't all seem that good.. and watching some demo them were mostly people wanting to use form seven because they could be aggressive and or they just use form four to move around and attack aggressively." She was looking at it and wondering what form her master used ith her saber and they would hopefully be able to pick out some things. "What form do you use master?"

Sorel Crieff

Ready are you? What know you of ready?
Sorel listened and recognised the dilemma her Padawan was experiencing. All seven Forms offered something unique. There was no best and no worst and so she could see how learners would find it difficult to choose one above the others. Each had strengths or weaknesses – or the one that had neither was, well, lacking in a strength or a weakness.

“Personally? I use both the fourth and fifth. It depends on the circumstances and also if I am using a single saber, two sabers or a saberstaff. I can use them all. But I started with Ataru. It suited my size and speed. It was only over time that I diversified.”

“The truth is that I am now accomplished in the first six. Only the seventh is outside of my expertise. It takes a certain disposition to pull it off – and I know my strengths and weaknesses well enough to know it is not appropriate for me at this point on my life. Maybe it will never be? I do not know, I just understand what I am capable of today.”

Krass was looking at her master and gave her a nod as she understood that. She had done some research and learning on them but using them was different and while she could see the value she wasn't really built for form seven. She doubted many who used it were they just wanted to know it cause they could then use their emotions and not have to follow the whole jedi code thing. A loophole if anything for the lazy but she did like the idea of the fifth form. Something that would work for all of them and provide her a way to use both her saber and her hammer possibly together in a modified jar'kai style stance. "I think I would like to learn the fifth form from you them. It fits more with my people and being small but powerful and not easy to move in many regards."

Sorel listened and reflected for a few moments before responding. “The Perseverance Form? An interesting choice and overall a wise one. Not overly defensive and a good blend of defensive work, offensive moves and more importantly counter-strikes.”

“And there are two variants for you to come to terms with. Shien, where we shall start, is better for blocking blaster bolts, whereas Djem So works better for sabers. But in both regards it is about turning defence into attack. Some suggest it is too aggressive but I would counter that. It is not about dominating as much as some people suggest, and is more about turning an opponent’s attack upon themselves.”

“So, do you have any questions before we start?”

Listening to her master as she was explaining it was giving her a better idea of everything. The things that they were doing and the things here with the traiing information about Shien and Djem So. For basters and sabers. She might be able to learn some skill as she held the blade for herself with a nod of her head. "Do you have something for my hair?" She was looking at the black and red of the streaks that she blew out of her face. If she was going to learn she needed to not have hair get in her eyes that might be covered with sweat. A small thing that not many might be thinking about but Krass was prepared with it and looking to make a small difference when she rolled her shoulders holding the blade in bot hands and was ready for the lesson.

Sorel Crieff

Ready are you? What know you of ready?
Sorel smiled. Krass was both prepared and unprepared simultaneously. On the one hand, her understanding that loose hair might impede her sparring was a good observation – and one that Padawans often failed to notice until they were blinded by their locks. But the fact that she failed to bring anything was a slight blemish.

Sorel turned and rummaged in a box before producing a silk. “Not for tying your hair back but for wearing as a blindfold. Your request made me think of this. What better way to become attuned to your saber than to rely on the Force. Once you’ve put it on, I can activate a remote for you to practise with."

With that, she handed over the white silk and picked up a remote and began fiddling with it.

Looking at her master as she was thinking about it with some fo the work here. She went to see what they might be able to do, what they might have when she touched the silk sash for herself and well.. if she had a blindfold on then the whole hair in the eyes thing would be an important nonissue. "Understood master." she stood there taking it and moved her hair a bit so it wouldn't irritate her with a small look on her face. She secured it holding the saber again as she waited for her master but moved into a small area going into a jedi ready stance. The sound of the blade itself activating as the smoke and storm greys of the blade itself were there. Like working in a forge it looked different but fit with her.

Sorel Crieff

Ready are you? What know you of ready?
Sorel waited for Krass to be fully ready before she began. Once she was sure, she activated the remote and allowed it to drift into the air under its own propulsion.

“It will latch on to the first saber it detects. And I’ve set it for learning mode. It will start slowly and as you demonstrate your competence it will speed up and fire multiple blasts. They won’t hurt, at least not very much. Just like being hit with a training saber.”

“So immerse yourself in the Force and allow it to guide you. Trust in it, completely.”

And Sorel stood back and watched.

She could feel many of the things here, trusting the force energies all around herself, feeling her masters words so that they would be able to move around. Her hands gripping her saber for a moment until she checked around. "Understood master." Krass said it with a small smirk on her face before she was looking around and prepared to dig deep, to dig and reach into the force when it wa there guiding her sight even with the blind fold. Silence overcame the area when more then anything she could hear the humming of the remote itself. Hovering there, circling and focusing its blasters so they could be used against her now. The remote continued and Krass waited until the first shot was there and blocked it. The force guiding her but she was used to listening for the small sounds to indicate something delicate had broken. That was easier then she thought here when she prepared for the second shot.

Sorel Crieff

Ready are you? What know you of ready?
Sorel was pleased that Krass blocked the first blast and not at all surprised. But there was something amiss and she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. It was the way Krass held her head that was the main clue.

So Sorel walked over to the wall and accessed a control pad. Instantly music flooded the room. It wasn’t unpleasant and neither was it so loud as to be uncomfortable – but it was of sufficient volume that you would have to talk very loudly to be heard. So loud in fact that an attentive Padawan could not detect the position of the remote by hearing alone.

Krass moved as a second shot came and then there was something. The blaring of music while she blocked the second shot and her master seemed to figure out the small thing. She wasn't doing it to be deceptive but it was something that you could fall into. if you had the talent to do something, to use a sense and listen for things and have the awareness... then were doing a task where you needed to use that awareness it was easier to fall into that comfort area. Krass was listening with all of the music around her before she gripped the blade. The force energy coursed throughout it with a grin on her face when she could feel the force guiding her movements and with everything there she was better able to block and reflect the blaster shot at the wall towards the controls when she moved around with a look on her face of excitement before she checked with her feet to follow and flow from the remote.

Sorel Crieff

Ready are you? What know you of ready?
Sorel had no way of knowing if her hunch was correct – but it was common for people to rely on what they are good at. But in her own experience, you needed to add any personal strengths to a baseline of working with the Force and not the other way around. Keen hearing might enhance your Force Sense but it should not be the default position.

But if Krass was relying her hearing before, it was almost impossible to tell – as she seamlessly adapted to the change in environment. Sorel smiled. Regardless of how Krass was finding the remote, many Padawans would have faltered at the change in noise. Sorel felt she was now counting the days to when Krass would be knighted.

krass could feel her master around her before she wanted to let out some more force energy to follow and let it to guide herself. The remote moved shifting and the force alerted her until she side stepped and twisted to meet the shot with the smaller blade them went up and around. She wanted to see what they might be able to do, she wanted to see what there was until the quick doublle tap of shots went to the smaller blade and then to deflect off to her shoulder and foot when Krass yelped. "ouch." her blade was made to function for cutting not deflecting but the smaller the shot and more focused she could work on deflecting it and compensating. She wouldn't take this into a battle with an E-Web but she could use it against a temple guardian.

Sorel Crieff

Ready are you? What know you of ready?
Sorel was wondering if Krass was learning or if she was testing the remote. For a short while the Padawan appeared in complete control and at ease.

And Sorel was unsure if the Padawan became a little over-zealous or if she became complacent but suddenly Krass was hit twice. Not that she was zapped directly, she actually deflected the shots onto her own body.

Sorel appreciated that the thinness of the blade made it ideal for cutting but less effective for deflecting. Sorel knew Krass would be able to compensate – as long as she focused on defence she would learn the technique.

“Focus,” was all Sorel said. It was all she needed to say.

Krass could hear her master when she was letting the force guie her when she paused. Standing there and hearing her master over the sounds of the music and background noise was hard but she could do it. The feeling of the remote, the hands gripping over the hilt of her saber and clenching it as her hands in the gloves went a little white knuckled. She wanted to impress but she also knew she needed to work on adapting. The blade wasn't made for deflecting blaster bolts it was made for stopping the blasters when she felt it. Letting the force move and guide her until she felt the force in her body. Perception slowing down the world itself around her, allowing her blade to move when the remote fired and Krass rotated her hilt with the blade moving to catch and send the shot back to it near the repulsor itself to disable the remote. A second shot and she focused on it when a third shot came and she focused the force to hold one bolt with the blade catching and using the saber to deflect the shot back. Th third holding it there until she moved to the side and it let whiz past her after being suspended.

Sorel had faith. Faith in Krass but more importantly in the Force. If Krass could replicate that faith, she would achieve. Doubt would be her undoing and by focusing, it maximised the Padawan’s chances of not dwelling on doubt and instead concentrating on success.

There was almost a perceptible slowing in Krass’ movement. It was as if time was being slowed by the Padawan. It was an illusion that a Jedi could spot. In truth, Krass was speeding up her movement but in her mind she was working in slow-motion. The effect were reflexes that were faster than the average person could comprehend – and sometimes even see.

And Sorel noted that Krass was now in a flow. It was reminiscent of Soresu – Krass was in the eye of the storm. Around her was frantic activity but she was calm and relaxed and in control.

Sorel allowed the lesson to continue for a short while with the remote before sparring with Krass directly.
