It was strange. Reina had spent so much of her life doing things her own way. Not asking for help, but taking it if it was offered. Part of her saw it as being weak if you needed to ask for it. She always valued herself for being strong, for being able to do things her own way. There hadn't been a threat that she couldn't face down or with that not being an option, run away from. But this threat, this problem was different. It was there everywhere Reina looked near enough. In the water, she so loved to spend her time around. In the windows that she walked past. And in the mirror, she looked into every day. Normally she could also hear it everywhere she went but there was something about the Jedi Temple that silenced the voice. It was...peaceful to an extent.

But it was a threat she had to deal with before it got worse. It wasn't something she wanted to grow and fester inside of her. That was the main problem for her. She knew it was something inside of her and she didn't know how to rip it out. It was a part of her that she didn't want to exist any longer. There were few people Reina trusted to go to this with. In fact there were few people Reina trusted full stop. She could have turned to any of the Jedi for help perhaps but there was only one she trusted enough for this. Valery Noble Valery Noble .

Reina checked the map she had to make sure she was heading towards the right room. Normally Reina would have just gone to the training room instead of finding someone to talk to. Get this strange frustration and worry out physically, and replace it with adrenaline and rushing blood. That didn't work as a solution however when that was part of the problem itself. Reina had never seen her stubborness and headstrong ways as a problem. It had been a gift to her. It had made her numb to things that most girls her age might have gotten emotional over. Her encounter with Everest back on Jedha had proven that. But it also was a curse. It made her harder to seek help and for all she knew, it was too late to deal with this illness she thought was festering.

Once she arrived at the room, Reina took in a deep breath. It wasn't too late for her to cancel. She didn't need to go ahead and get the help she was looking for. That would have been admitting that she needed it. Admitting that she wasn't strong enough to do things herself. Her way. But she knew her way wasn't always right. That people could do more together than they ever could do alone. So she took in a deep breath and gave a small knock on the door.

"...Master Noble? Are you in there?"

The room was quiet.

A rare moment of stillness had settled over Valery as she sat near the window, a datapad in her hands, its soft glow illuminating her face. The words on the screen flickered gently, but she wasn't studying tactics or reading through mission reports this time. No, this was one of the few moments where she allowed herself to simply be — to unwind, even if only for a little while.

The weight of responsibility was always there, always pressing against her shoulders like an old companion, but tonight, she let it rest.

And then — the knock.

Valery blinked, her fiery gaze lifting from the datapad. The hesitation in the voice beyond the door told her more than the words themselves did.

Reina.

The warmth of familiarity softened Valery's features. She set the datapad aside and rose to her feet, her steps quiet against the floor as she moved toward the door. With a gentle touch, she pressed the panel, and the door slid open with a quiet hiss.

The young woman standing before her was strong — in ways that went beyond the physical. Valery had seen it before, in her stance, in the way she carried herself, in the stubborn glint that always seemed to burn behind her eyes. But tonight, there was something different. A tension. A hesitation. Valery didn't pry — not yet.

Instead, she offered a soft smile, her voice warm as she stepped aside, extending a hand toward the room.
"Come in, Reina." There was no expectation in her tone, no pressure, just quiet reassurance.

"You're always welcome here."

Already the Jedi Grandmaster knew what to say it seemed, even without Reina explaining anything. Being told that she was always welcomed. It was part of what she needed to hear right now. Reina lowered her head towards Valery in acknowledgement. Another sign of her being..."off". Normally Reina didn't see any point in the formalities.

"Thank you Master Noble."

She made her way into the room slowly, taking a small look around. It seemed...nice. Quaint almost. Her eyes darted around the room for a moment, a small flicker of uncertainty as Reina took in whatever reflective surfaces were around her. Just a small swift look before she'd turn her back to them. She didn't want to see herself whilst she spoke to Valery. Not right now at least.

"I'm sorry for not contacting you earlier. Or making an appointment. It's just..."

How could she find the words for it. She knew the words, they just weren't words she wanted to use. Because saying them would mean admitting it. But at the same time, she was already asking for help. That was as much as admitting it as it would get.

"...I'm scared. Of myself right now. It's...hard for me to explain. Without making it sound like I'm going crazy...Wait. No. I'm being rude. I should ask how you're doing first..."

Social skills still weren't something Reina was gifted at. She was trying at the very least...even if she should have started off asking how Valery was doing.

Valery’s smile softened as she stepped further into the room, watching Reina with quiet understanding. She noticed the way her gaze flickered toward the reflective surfaces, the way she turned her back to them just a little too quickly. The way uncertainty lingered in her voice, in her stance.

Then came the words.

That was all Valery needed to hear.

But when Reina hesitated, fumbling to turn the conversation toward her well-being instead, Valery couldn’t help but chuckle — a light, warm sound meant to ease the tension. She folded her arms loosely, tilting her head.

"I'm doing great," she assured her, voice carrying a soft amusement. "But you don’t have to worry about that right now. Tonight, this is about you."

She gestured toward the seating area, an invitation rather than a command. "Come, sit." Her expression never wavered — open, patient. She didn’t push. Didn’t pry.

Only let the silence stretch just enough to leave space for Reina to breathe.

"Whatever it is, whatever you're feeling," she continued, "I will help you."

She meant it, every word. She had seen many Jedi struggle with their own fears, with the weight of their own strength, their own thoughts. She had faced those struggles herself.

But Reina wasn’t lost.

Not yet.

And as long as Valery was here, she wouldn’t be.

"Okay...Where do I start with this..."

Reina sat herself down carefully, trying to figure out how to word this. How to ask for the help in more detail. It was hard. Not because she didn't have the words but also because she didn't truly know how she felt about it.

"...I had a weird...dream or hallucination or something when I was trying to help against the Sith. I was lost. In a dark ocean, filled with gunk, oil and liquid darkness that just...wanted to tug me under. Wanted to swallow me into the darkness. But there was...a light. It wasn't comforting though. Like the Light I get from you, or from Master Si..."
She shuddered at the thought. It wasn't the ocean that had terrified her. But the light. Or to be more precise, who was wielding that light.

"...It was me. But it wasn't. It sounded like me...but more cruel. It had my eyes, but they were glowing a bright yellow. They were covered in blood. They offered to help me. To rescue me from the dark...but I didn't trust it. Master Si managed to bring me back with some kind of...Light. But that me is still there."

The girl jabbed herself in the chest and then tapping her temple a few times

"In here. And in here. Everywhere I look, I can still see her. When I'm away from the Temple, I can hear her as well. She...tries to remind me how much fun I find it fighting. In causing pain. She's right. But she's also wrong."

Admitting that she liked to cause pain...probably wasn't the best thing to say to Valery, but Reina needed to get it all off her chest.

"It keeps reminding me...of the bad things I enjoy. The things I know are wrong. I'm scared I'm going crazy."

Panic was finally starting to set in for the girl. It was harder to run from your problems once you've admitted them. Once you've said them out loud. It was also hard to close the floodgates once you've opened them. So Reina continued with her fears, even as tears started to build up. Tears that haven't been cried in a long time.

"I'm scared...that I'm going to hurt people. People who are innocent. I can feel it. Festering inside of me. Like a sickness. I want to save people Master Noble. I...want to be like a Knight. Not like...a Jedi. But the people who wear those suits of armour and wield a sword. They never give up..."

The tears were finally flowing. All of her fears and concerns were finally coming through. She knew it wasn't just a recent thing. She felt like she was already a bad person, after she nearly slapped Everest on Jedha.

Valery listened.

She didn’t interrupt. Didn’t shift uncomfortably or let her expression waver as Reina spoke, spilling her fears and her truths into the open. She simply listened, her fiery gaze steady and warm, her presence an unshakable foundation against the storm raging inside the young woman.

And when the tears came, when Reina finally cracked beneath the weight of everything she had been carrying, Valery moved.

She didn’t hesitate.

With the kind of quiet grace that came naturally to her, she shifted forward and knelt beside Reina, her hand resting gently against the young woman's back. It was a grounding touch — not forceful, not demanding, but there. A reminder that she wasn’t alone.

"Reina," Valery said softly, her voice steady but filled with warmth. "It's going to be okay."

She let those words settle first, let them weave through the rising panic, through the doubt and fear clawing at Reina’s mind. Because it was true. She had seen struggles like this before — had lived them in her own way. And she knew, with absolute certainty, that Reina was not lost.

That she would not fall.

"This voice, this other you that you’re seeing… it’s not who you are. It’s a shadow, a reflection of fear, of doubt, of pain." She gave a slight squeeze to Reina’s shoulder. "But that doesn’t mean it has control over you."

She paused, letting her words settle before continuing.

"It preys on what you’re afraid of most. That you’ll hurt people. That you’ll lose yourself to the fight, to the thrill of it." Valery met Reina’s gaze, unwavering. "But you know that’s not what you want. You want to help people. To protect them. And that means this darkness doesn’t define you, no matter how loud it tries to be."

Her hand moved gently to brush a few tears away, a quiet, motherly gesture.

"It’s not about pretending those feelings don’t exist," Valery said, her voice soft but firm. "It’s about choosing what to do with them. Acknowledging them. Understanding them. Controlling them instead of letting them control you."

She let a small, reassuring smile return to her lips.

"You’re not going crazy, Reina. You’re fighting for yourself. And I’m going to help you every step of the way."

Her voice dropped just slightly, filled with certainty.

The silence was terrifying Reina. She wasn't sure what to say about it. Before she felt a hand on her back. A supporting hand that helped Reina realise that she wasn't alone in this. Reminding her that there was a reason to tell people with your problems. There was only so much she could carry herself.

The concept of the reflection being based off fear and doubt was...a strange one. It was so confident. So sure of itself. Whereas Reina wasn't. She was. She was headstrong. Didn't use to worry about these things but now with the Galaxy available to her opening up, so were other problems. It was simple. Beforehand, she was close-minded. Ignorant. Now that she was opening herself up to more, it meant she was also opening herself up to more problems.

"It's...cold. I can feel it inside of my heart. Festering. A decrepit source of oil. But...there's also a candle. Trying to stay lit. Trying not to go out..."

Reina blinked as the tears were gently wiped from her face. It felt...nice. She didn't know how to explain the feeling but it helped that little candle in her heart to burn a bit brighter. A bit warmer. It brought half a smile to her face as she shook her head, trying to wrap her head around what Valery had said. The reflection was a part of Reina. But it didn't have control over her. That...made sense if she tried to think about it logically. Practically. You controlled your reflection, not the other way around...

"It's just hard to ignore some of what it says. Because it is right. The thrill of fighting. Balancing my life on the edge. But at the same time...there's other parts of it I enjoy. Fighting to save people. Making sure other people's lives aren't on the edge."
From what she was starting to wrap her head around was however...that's exactly what her reflection wanted to play with. Turn the positive feelings into something negative. She just had to hold onto the positives.

Valery listened, her expression soft but thoughtful as Reina spoke, describing the coldness inside her, the festering darkness that threatened to smother the fragile light trying to stay alive. A candle in the wind, flickering but unextinguished. She understood that feeling.

Better than Reina might have realized.

And so, Valery's hand remained steady against her back, a grounding presence, a quiet reassurance that she wasn't fighting this battle alone. "Then we'll help keep that candle lit," Valery murmured, voice warm and certain. "Not just me — your friends, your Masters, those who care about you. You're never fighting alone, Reina. Not unless you choose to be."

She gave a gentle squeeze to her shoulder before pulling back slightly, her fiery gaze steady as she met Reina's eyes.

"And you don't have to ignore what it says. You don't have to pretend those feelings don't exist. The thrill of fighting, of pushing yourself to the edge — there's nothing wrong with feeling it." Valery offered a small, knowing smile. "I feel it too. Every time I step onto the battlefield, every time I push myself in a fight. And when I'm piloting my starfighter?" She let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head. "That rush? That exhilaration? I live for it."

She let the words settle, let them sink in before continuing, her tone shifting just slightly —gentle, but firm.

"But the difference between us and those who let the dark consume them is that we don't lose ourselves in it. We don't let it control us. We don't let the thrill become our purpose."Her hands rested lightly against her knees as she leaned in just slightly, speaking with quiet conviction. "That's what we learn as Jedi. That's what the Code teaches us — not to deny emotions, but to understand them. To control them. To find harmony."

A small pause. Then, softly,
"Ignorance leads to chaos. Knowledge brings harmony. You already understand the difference. That's why you're afraid of losing yourself. Because deep down, you know who you are. And you know what you want to be."

She gave Reina a small, reassuring smile, one filled with certainty.

"And that means you're already winning."

"I'm not...good at making friends. I have one at least."

Of course, Reina didn't know that said friend also happened to be a soldier for the Sith...but that wasn't important! Not at all. All Reina knew and cared about was that they were similar to Reina. They had helped her feel more confident in herself. The same way Valery was starting to help Reina come to terms with this. She wasn't going to be able to get rid of the reflection. The voice. But she could maybe learn to accept it.

"I've never really piloted a starfighter before...but I do get a thrill from diving. Being surrounded by the ocean...It's something I miss. I don't get to do it anymore since...diving suits are expensive."

She technically could use the Force to try and make a bubble around her head and go diving that way...but it wouldn't feel the same. Reina wanted to be back in the ocean again. A clear blue one. Not the dark murky one that she dreamed about nearly every night now. It was one of the reasons she was grateful for the Temple. It was a beacon. A Lighthouse for Reina to stay guided and focused.

"I don't really...know how to understand my emotions, Master Noble. A lot of these are emotions I haven't felt before. At least not like this. I've never felt a fear that I can't deal with myself. Something that I can't just beat with a weapon. I'm not used to...feeling."

It was true. Reina had indirectly cut herself off from most emotions. It was how she managed to survive at sea as a kid. Kill your curiosity. Kill your emotions. Kill your dreams. Those distracted you from being focused. If you lose focus, there was a chance you could kill someone by accident. Or cause someone to get hurt. But now, Reina was allowing herself to dream. To feel her emotions. To be curious about things. She didn't know how to deal with all of those. But...she trusted Valery. Trusted the Jedi. And well...trusted a Sith Soldier, to help with that. Funny how those things work.

Valery listened with quiet patience, her expression steady as Reina admitted the things she struggled with — the difficulties of making friends, the longing for the ocean, the unfamiliarity of emotions she had spent so long pushing away. She didn't rush to respond, didn't try to drown Reina's fears in empty reassurances. Instead, she let the words settle, let them breathe, before finally speaking.

"You don't have to figure it all out at once," Valery said softly, her warm gaze steady. "Understanding yourself, your emotions, the things that drive you — it all takes time. And experience. And sometimes? It takes failing, too. You're not supposed to be perfect at this already."

She gave Reina's shoulder a gentle squeeze, offering that quiet reassurance that she wasn't alone in this. That she never would be. "And when you struggle, when things feel too heavy to carry on your own, that's what we're here for," she continued. "Me. Other Jedi. The people who care about you and will learn to care about you. You're never expected to do this alone, Reina."

Her smile softened, just a little. "And as for friends? That will come too. Not all at once. Not always in the ways you expect. But you'll find them." A small smirk tugged at her lips, playful but knowing.

Reina couldn't wrap her head around why she couldn't just rely on the Jedi. She had been able to rely on her old crew. Put her lives in their hands. So why couldn't she put her faith into the Jedi? Maybe because it involved more than just putting her life on the line. It meant putting her heart out there. Letting people in. That was a lot more intense than just trusting someone not to let you get stabbed, or shot or killed.

"I know how it feels to fail...To get myself or someone else hurt. But this just feels...different. As if me failing means that I will end up hurting someone purposefully. I don't want that."

...Well. That wasn't fully the truth. Reina didn't mind hurting people in a fight that deserved. That were putting her in danger. But innocent people? That was the difference. Reina couldn't exactly be like a guardian if she went around hurting the innocent. That's less of a guardian and be more of being a machine. A tank. That wasn't what she wanted.

"...I think I should apologise to Everest next time I see her. I was...quite rude when we first met."

That was one way of calling it. Her nearly slapping Everest, and asking how her dad was meant to help them perhaps could be described as more than just "rude"...but Reina was just finally admitting that she could have behaved better.

Valery listened as Reina struggled to find the right words, as she admitted to the fear lingering beneath the surface — the fear that failure wouldn't just mean making mistakes, but that it would lead her to hurt someone. That she'd lose control, cross a line she didn't want to cross. It wasn't an unfamiliar fear. Many Jedi, especially those who carried a fire inside them, wrestled with the same doubts.

But the fact that Reina was even worried about it?

That was proof enough that she wasn't lost.

A soft, knowing smile tugged at Valery's lips as she gave Reina's shoulder another reassuring squeeze. "The fact that you care this much, that you don't want to be that person? That already tells me you're stronger than you think," she murmured. "Failing doesn't mean losing yourself, Reina. Not unless you let it."

She let that sit for a moment before her smirk returned, just slightly. "And I think talking to Everest Vale Everest Vale is a great idea. She will understand, and I wouldn't be surprised if you end up with a friend in the process." Valery's fiery gaze gleamed with warmth, her voice carrying quiet certainty. "She's got such a kind heart. And honestly?" She chuckled softly. "You two might have more in common than you realize."

Her hand finally dropped from Reina's shoulder, but the warmth in her presence never faded. "Give yourself the chance to try, Reina. To understand yourself, to connect with people. It won't happen all at once, and it shouldn't. But you're already taking steps in the right direction."

And Valery would be there, every step of the way.

She tilted her head at that thought. Failure wasn't...necessarily a loss? But that was the main way Reina had saw things. Either you won or you lost. Life or death. No alternative. So the idea that there was an inbetween...It was strange to Reina. She could potentially work with this. Reina rubbed her chin in thought at that, staring off into space. It would be hard for her to wrap her head around it at first...but she'll get used to.

"It's hard to try. It's hard to potentially fail. It's also hard to know who or what might be bad for me."
Reina thought the idea of her and Everest having things in common was...a joke. What could she have in common with Everest? Everest seemed sweet. Kind. Maybe somewhat naive or sheltered but that wasn't her fault. The same way it wasn't Reina's fault for being so defensive as she was. Everyone had a reason for the way they were in life. It was just taking Reina a while to realise that.

"There's a lot of this...that is just hard to wrap my head around. Making friends. Meditation...erh...reading."

The last part was a bit more uncomfortable for her to admit. She knew how to read. But she wasn't that experienced with it. She could do basic stuff. Read numbers, or basic words but the more complex information got, it was getting harder and harder to understand.

Valery watched as Reina worked through her thoughts, the quiet conflict playing across her face. The fact that she was even considering it, struggling with it instead of rejecting it outright — that was progress. It wasn't an easy shift, not for someone who had spent their life seeing the world in absolutes. But it was a start.

And sometimes, that was all that mattered.

"It is hard," Valery agreed, her voice soft but steady. "Nobody expects you to get it all at once. Nobody expects you to suddenly feel comfortable with everything. It's going to take time to find what works for you — your rhythm, your way of learning, your way of connecting with people."

At the mention of meditation, friendships… reading, Valery's expression didn't shift. No judgment, no reaction beyond quiet understanding. Instead, she tilted her head slightly, considering her next words carefully.

"Not everything about being a Jedi comes naturally to everyone. We all have our strengths, and we all have the things we struggle with." A pause. "And there's nothing wrong with needing help." Her smile returned, small but warm. "I can help with that, if you want." She wasn't just talking about meditation or friendships, though she'd be there for that too. She was offering something more — support, guidance, whatever Reina needed.

"You will figure this out," she promised. "And you won't have to do it alone."

"There is someone who expects all of that from me. Myself. I've...survived for so long by doing the job I was given. The role I was given. I knew my place. What I had to do. But now...I don't know what I'm meant to do. My role. Or my place."

Reina hesitated for a moment as she spoke. She was going to say that she had lived for so long but the more she spent time with the Jedi, the more time she spent with the people she met, the more she realised that hadn't been living. She had just been surviving. Her entire life had just been surviving. As much as she enjoyed parts of it, she had never had a proper childhood. A proper life.

"...I'd like some help. If that's okay. I don't know what with yet...but I'd like it. I know there's only so much I can do for myself alone. I've just been...used to doing it by myself."

Which was true. She wasn't used to people helping her. But she wasn't alone anymore, like Valery said. Reina had a place to belong. Of course for how long that would be, Reina wasn't sure herself. She might stay with the Jedi for as long as she lived. She might stay with them until she felt content with herself and what she knew. Either way, this was where she belonged for now.

HAIuSyi.png

Valery listened, her expression soft but unwavering. She let Reina speak, let her voice carry the weight of uncertainty, of years spent surviving rather than truly living. It wasn't an easy thing to admit, to accept that the structure that had once kept you safe was now the very thing holding you back. But Reina was seeing it. Acknowledging it.

That was more than most ever did.

When Reina finally hesitated, finally admitted she wanted help, something warm flickered in Valery's fiery gaze. She didn't immediately respond, didn't rush to fill the silence. Instead, she simply let those words breathe, let Reina sit with them for a moment. Then, slowly, she reached out, giving the younger woman's shoulder one last reassuring squeeze.

"Then I'll help," she said simply, her voice steady, certain. Like a promise.

"Whatever you need, whenever you need it," she continued, leaning back slightly, "I'll be there. We'll figure it out together."She meant it. Every word. And if there was one thing Valery never did, it was break a promise. A pause, then, as a small smirk tugged at the edge of her lips. "And if you're up for it," she added, tilting her head, "Maybe that means coming with me on some missions."

Her eyes gleamed with a quiet challenge, but not one meant to test Reina — one meant to invite her. It wasn't just about the work. It wasn't just about duty, about learning how to be a Jedi. It was about seeing the galaxy, about experiencing it, about finding something beyond the role she had once been given.

It was strange. Reina wasn't used to people making promises. Or making what sounded like a promise. Once again, logical she knew what a promise was. What it was meant to mean. But she didn't truly know what it was. Though she trusted Valery. She didn't doubt for a moment that the grandmaster would be there for her. Though Reina tilted her head as Valery said there was something else if Reina was up for it...and the girl's eyes lit up at the mentioning of a mission.

There was no hesitation in her eyes whatsoever as the girl sat herself up, a bright grin spreading across her face as if all the issues she had had evaporated into thin air. They hadn't of course, but the idea of going on a mission got rid of any worries she might have had. It meant she could get out there and do something! It meant she didn't have to wallow in her own thoughts whilst she tried to meditate.

"Oh. I would love to. It'd be amazing to see how a Jedi works. The only two real missions I've seen Jedi in was on Keshi and Jedha."

Both of which were combat related. As much as Reina loved to fight and loved to throw herself into a battle...The woman knew there was more to being a Jedi than that. That was the part that she needed to learn. Needed to grow in.

Valery chuckled softly, watching as Reina practically lit up at the idea of going on a mission. The shift was immediate — like flipping a switch. The hesitation, the weight of uncertainty, all of it melted away in an instant, replaced by something bright, eager. This was what Reina wanted. Not just to train, not just to think about what it meant to be a Jedi, but to do.

And Valery understood that more than most.

But at the mention of Keshi and Jedha, her smile tempered, just slightly. Those weren't just missions — they were battlefields. Dark, dangerous places where Jedi weren't just guardians but survivors. Reina had seen some of the worst of what it meant to be part of the Order. And while Valery had no doubt she could handle herself, that wasn't the only kind of mission a Jedi had to face.

"Keshi and Jedha…" Valery exhaled, tilting her head slightly, her fiery gaze thoughtful. "Those weren't easy. And they weren't exactly typical either."

Her smirk returned, small but warm. "You want to see how a Jedi works?" she mused, crossing her arms. "Then how about something a little different for your first mission with me?" There was no teasing in her voice, no hint that she thought Reina couldn't handle the harsher things — just the understanding that being a Jedi wasn't just about war.

"There's more to this life than just fighting. More than just battlefields and warzones," she continued, her tone steady, inviting. "So how about I bring you along on something that fits your skills but is a little less..." She gestured vaguely with one hand, searching for the right word before landing on.

"Intense."

"You don't have to tell me twice about how intense it was. I was there with you on Jedha. And on Keshi I ended up breaking my shoulder and losing my favourite knife."

And in a way, ended up losing her innocence when she killed a Mandalorian. But that wasn't bothering her as much as it used to. It hurt. It was a strange feeling. Yes, but dwelling on it wouldn't help her. It was a sign that she still had a heart. That she regretted killing someone who was going to kill her. Though Reina tilted her head at the revelation that Jedi didn't always have to deal with such intensity. That there was more to them than just fighting. The girl furrowed her brow at that.

"I guess that would be interesting. Most of my skills are related to violence...I think at least. Not sure how the rest of my skills might translate over to any other kind of job."

Sure, her swimming could help for some situations but at the same time most people could swim right? That skill wasn't anything special. There was also her ability to tie knots though that couldn't help with much. What else could she do?...Well, there was some minor repair skills she had...

"But I'm ready to help whatever way I can. It won't do me, or anyone else any good if I just stay here wondering what I can do. Thinking about what I should do. The best way to figure out what I can do, is by doing it."

Valery nodded, a small smirk curling at the corner of her lips. "That's the right mindset," she said, her fiery gaze steady with approval. "The best way to figure out what you can do is by stepping out there and doing it. And I promise—" her smirk deepened just slightly, "I'll be calling on you soon."

Her arms crossed loosely over her chest, weight shifting slightly onto one leg as she studied Reina. The younger woman had a fire in her, a sharpness that had already been tested on battlefields most Padawans never had to face. But there was more to being a Jedi than war. More than just knowing how to fight, how to survive. And Valery wanted her to see that for herself.

"But for now," she added, her tone shifting, lightening just a little, "How about something simple? Tea, maybe? Something to eat? Can't have you running off on your first mission with me on an empty stomach." It was meant to be a casual offer, just a moment to settle, but before Reina could respon...

A thin, reedy wail drifted through the room. Valery turned toward the adjacent chamber, her expression softening instantly as the sound of tiny distress reached her ears.

Little Yvaine had woken up.

For just a moment, Valery let out a breath, a quiet chuckle escaping her lips. "And that," she mused, amusement flickering in her amber eyes, "Would be my cue." She turned back to Reina, her smirk never quite fading. "Would you like to take a look with me?" Valery asked, believing that the innocence and gentle presence of a baby might soothe the mind a little.
