Balancing the books... or cooking them?

Iturizu Yuvie

Be carfule what you wish for
Yuvie slept very soundly, though inevitably woke up early like always, military discipline still being a major part of his routine, even if on this day he could relax for once. Cheaking over it was just before 9 O'clock or what ever time scale the planet used, not everywhere worked on 24 hours, not that it really mattered considering these days people would stay up all night or sleep in for hours on end. Looking to the other side of the bed [member="Varindar Asyt"] was already awake, not wasting time in asking him about breakfast. Since he had not really had a proper dinner it was actually a pleasant wake up call to be honest, "I think today I would like to have room service, try something new, plenty of chances to try out the restaurant again". This was going to he his holiday, and spending some time relaxing and not spending excess energy was something Yuvie would be doing. "What may I ask is on the menu for breakfast anyways Varindar"? If it was anything as extensive as the dinner menu then a small feast may be in order for room service. Also in the mean time while waiting the two could talk about more room bookings and future plans.

"I hope that this new breakfast room service menu will be worth the longer lead time"

Waffles, pancakes, sandwiches, Benedictine eggs and, of course, omelettes, with sides like muffins, oatmeal, cereal, bread, hash browns and many more. These are all part of the new breakfast menu [member="Iturizu Yuvie"] would be glancing at for the breakfast room service. Of course, one would need to read the fine print for what's allowed for sides and at what cost. Because Tiffany knew it as well as any other chef, much less one that runs another restaurant's kitchen serving all-day breakfast as its executive chef, each side had its own ingredient costs. But, upon reviewing the breakfast menu, there was one item that stood out, especially since it was essentially the same as the dining room menu. The set of three ham and asparagus pancakes, served with a choice of Hollandaise or Béchamel sauce, albeit in a separate container; she hoped that Tiffany's all-day breakfast really was worth subcontracting the chef's services for the week's breakfast services. Of course, the hash browns were key to these pancakes given the minimal-cost options for side dishes: not that she didn't like multi-grain bread, just that she ate those at least three times a week and that she desired to have something else for breakfast room service. But no breakfast menu would be complete without beverages. She opens a comm channel to the restaurant:

"Room service: may I take your order?"

"I would like a set of three ham and asparagus pancakes with hash browns and a caramel macchiato please"

"Well we have all day, no really rush, unless you are wanting to get into the pool early this morning", Varindar always with the obsession on swimming. Though others may have found it overbearing seeing [member="Varindar Asyt"] swim was a nice sight indeed, for her athletic ability and rather attractive figure. Looking through the menu it was what you would expect from a hotel, his eyes scanning the waffles over as a very possible selection, though Yuvie was hungry enough to eat more then just one serving from the list. The more exotic sounding dishes while interesting where probably a little to much for today, maybe that could a dish to try something later down the tack, but for now Yuvie had an idea of what he wanted. The quick glancing over the menu also made him wonder about the possible combinations, just taking into account the names he did recognize there was probably enough combinations and breakfast options for a month, adding in all the extra meals it was very possible to last half a year and taste something new each day. Leaning over the hotel owners shoulder Yuvie put his own order in for room service, "would I be able to get a serving of the waffles with golden syrup, a serving of the sausages with eggs and 3 hash browns with tomato sauce and a Chi Latte please".

"One more thing: room service also counts towards the loyalty card"

The problem is that I have to schedule the taper periods carefully: now it's the school running the pool like a hippodrome, and they provide their own bookmaking, although there no longer was a school-vs-hotel dynamic in place, she thought, after [member="Iturizu Yuvie"] placed his order. She also realized that one side dish came with a guest so long that the guest actually ordered a main course, regardless of how many main courses there were: this meant that Varindar was, in fact, getting three hash browns, too. Plus the final hole in her loyalty card would be punched in, so that, next time, she could actually eat for free. Regardless of whether or not the meal would then be eaten as a lesson given in pyro/cryo or not. Varindar was simply preparing the space on the lounge table for those trays to come in cloches, so as soon as the room service arrived. And half an hour later, it's precisely at that time that the room service arrived, and the lead time was going to be much longer simply because going up two floors from the restaurant's kitchen was going to take much longer than waitressing in a dining room on the same floor.

"Room service!" the waiter told them after knocking on the door.

"Ah, room service: breakfast is ready!" Varindar told the Mirialan while the cloches were given to them on separate trays.

"Oh a loyalty card? if I am to be staying her often that such will be quite useful and necessary", he did not have infinite cash in the bank, so every credit saved was good. Also another reminder to get a decently paying job and soon, he was not exactly on the Galactic Alliance pay roll long enough to get a decent savings account up and afloat. Not that he had to always eat at the restaurant, he could probably pick up a few goods at the local market and whip up a small dish to last a few nights, granted the kitchen could allow for large meal preparation. Spending a few minutes in the bath room fixing up his hair the door soon opened as room service arrived, the smell of the freshly cooked meal wafting through the romantic themed room. "Coming, coming" he replied, walking out of the bathroom as [member="Varindar Asyt"] set out the meal for both of them. Yuvie sat down, taking a gander at the food "Woah, smells rather nice, though hat else would I expect, guessing chefs with the same skill prepare both dinner and breakfast".

"In fact, since you came here once before, your current balance on your loyalty card is 2 meals out of 10"

The ham and asparagus pancakes laid before her, with a layer of molten cheese on top of them, with the three hash browns on a separate plate and the 12-ounce caramel macchiato in a separate cup. Meanwhile, [member="Iturizu Yuvie"] would get his waffles with golden syrup, as well as his sausage with eggs in two separate cloches since he ordered two main courses. The hash browns were inside the cloche that contains the sausage and eggs since that meal was served on a smaller plate than the pancakes; it was just a question of change. Plus she hoped that the recent changes in the hotel's chef corps won't affect the breakfast service served that much. Especially with Tiffany, the previous breakfast chef de partie, leaving to become the executive chef of a new all-day breakfast restaurant which, on Trandosha, was a curiosity the same as a five-star anything hospitality-related (usually taken to mean hotels or restaurants), so long as the all-day breakfast restaurant was actually fancier than one's typical fast-food joint. She began to dig into the ham and asparagus pancakes...

"As for the chefs: it's surprising that, since the last breakfast head chef became an executive chef in an all-day breakfast restaurant elsewhere in the city, we could get a breakfast service worthy of a 5-star restaurant from refugee labor"

"Oh, I was not aware that I could get those, does the meals at the bar count? I know ate here last time it counts, and this would be my second, unless the bar does not add towards the loyalty card"? If the bar was run by the hotel or a similar entity then would it not count? Unless the card was specifically for the restaurant and restaurant only, having it connected to the bar would probably be a little to complicated. Sitting down at the table Yuvie began to partake of the syrup covered waffles, the crunchy texture of the cooked cake like confectionery mixing well with the sweet gooey substance coating over them. It was quite tasty, but he knew such a meal would be unhealthy every single day, moderation was key, but once more he was on vacation, one day of indulgence would not hurt. Finishing off the waffles rather quickly Yuvie turned to start with the more filling part of the meal, giving [member="Varindar Asyt"] a small nod as she carried on about the new chef. "Your old chef left? did he become to engrossed in breakfast items to think of anything else"? He joked, unwrapping the sausages first, dipping them in some cause before taking a bite. "Also, do you mean to say your new staff are those feeling from the core worlds"? Coruscant was a huge sprawling city, just on that planet along one would probably fine hundreds, no thousands of well trained chefs with ease.

"The bar does not count; the loyalty cards are for the restaurant. That's why room service count towards that loyalty card"

True, that was one big breakfast that would last her well into the afternoon if she was in her "taper" periods, which in fact she was. But she knew it wouldn't last nearly as long if she wasn't, and then she saw [member="Iturizu Yuvie"] eating pretty much as much as two meals in one breakfast. Yes, she readily acknowledged that the mirialan was hungry from not having eaten that much last night. Just that Varindar was a little disconcerted by the questions the Mirialan guest may have been asking about the previous breakfast chef de partie, Tiffany. Although much has been made of the ease of securing loan-based financing for first-time entrepreneurs, she knew that loan terms were typically better if the borrower had field experience of the business they are planning to enter, so she worked for Varindar until such a time has come to file the loan application. Of course, Varindar kept a copy of the ads Tiffany circulated at the front desk although these showed the head chef wearing a black dress and some rather expensive-looking jewelry for no real reason. Probably family heirlooms or some such thing. Once she took a sip of that caramel macchiato, she was then able to answer the questions about the hotel's breakfast chef situation, while keeping some of the macchiato for later.

"It's just that Tiffany left once she finally secured the financing for opening that restaurant: she wanted to earn a little cooking experience in a restaurant setting before launching the business. And yes, the current kitchen staff came from refugees fleeing the Core"

Yuvie gave a small nod at the conformation, just the restaurant, made sense since you ordered set meals from there which could be more easily tracked, unlike bar where things are more, lose. Despite what people though the restaurant words as almost as strict as the military when it came to certain aspects, rank, methodology, time tables and other aspects. Some more then others, some less, but one thing was certain, stuff was hectic back their with the fire and pan, pretty dangerous as well. As he finished off the sausages he raised his head to hear what [member="Varindar Asyt"] stated about the current staff shifting with the restaurant. "Oh, so this place was more or less work experience before she opened up a new chain, that is quite a good idea, work, get paid, increase your skills and then go your own why once you have enough resources". "Guess it is also a bonus that those who have fled war have some sort of work available, it can be hard trying to start a new life when you lose almost everything, but I guess that is what the Jedi aim to do". A noble cause, one that the Silver Jedi seemed more then capable of with their vast forces and company ties.

"I have a meeting with the 20 refugee Jedi guests soon so take care, I have to go"

The one thing she did expect for these 20 Jedi was to explain to them the very same options they all had, as she explained [member="Iturizu Yuvie"] last night. And, if some of them wish to enter SJ service instead, she would need to explain to them the implications of the process, and also how they are different from other Jedi orders, although to be fair, hearing about them going to Trandosha on unfinished business meant at least some of them would readily enter SJ service, pending any formalities of course. When they were finished eating their breakfast, they put their trays with their respective cloches next to the door outside for housekeeping to bring the trays back to the restaurant's kitchen. Hopefully they won't fall into the same issues as they had the others, she thought. Varindar knew that she had otherwise no control over any part of the process otherwise; she had to advise them that there was some lead time with any faction for entering that faction's service, while she entered the conference room for their meeting with the Jedi guests. Now, there may be a laggard or two using room service for breakfast so she waited for those laggards using room service.

"Okay, take care Varindar, I will see you another time" Giving a wave he watched as the Hotel owner left, glad he had this time to talk with her, knowing full well in a few weeks he'd be back on the front lines doing work once more. Finishing off the rather tasty breakfast he stashed the dishes away in the sink, going back into the bath room to take care of his teeth. "Well, now I have the rest of the day to myself.... perhaps a nice swim will be in order", such followed by some personal force practice, heck maybe one of the wandering Jedi would be up for a spar? If not there was always meditations and cleaning his outfits. His battle armor being high on the agenda, it's black metal plat being quite stained with blood and dirt, though most had come off Yuvie wanted to give the armor a deep clean, avoid any nasty surprises the FO may have left behind.
