This was their chance. The Rogue Sith fleet line had broken, its elements scattering to haphazardly engage what enemies they could. With the path laid open, there was only one choice to be taken. If they failed, Castameer would be destroyed. Everyone could see the weapon turn inexorably towards the planet. If the weapon was not stopped here, the destruction of the planet would likely devastate what elements of the fleets were still in-system at the time. But just because the opportunity was given did not mean it could be taken without cost. The Noble-class cruisers were in danger of their shields collapsing without a respite, and the heavy firepower of the Spirit was lost.
Providence came in the form of a reckless Republic charge. More than a dozen corvettes and frigates pushed forward, firing on the Maladi-class that had turned to defiantly stand against the Alliance Star Defenders. As they rushed past on their attack run, their vector carried them straight into the line of fire from the Hyatt Station. The confusion would be enough.
Cycling power from the ion and defense cannons through their shield emitters, the Noble Cruisers worked to rapidly restore their shields, with emphasis on those facing the Rogue Sith force. At the same time as that power was diverted, the cruisers began a maneuver that almost resembled clubhauling of seafaring antiquity. Forward thrusters erupted, rapidly slowly the Noble's momentum. The hanger bays were explosively vented, acting as massive emergency thrusters. At the same time, half of the engines cut out while opposing tractor beams latched onto the battered remains of several Rogue Sith ships. Fractionally, each beam could have pulled its target in without a problem. But by attempting to grab so many at once, their combined mass was sufficient to act as an anchor, and the tractor beams as the line.
With a shuddering lurch, the cruisers abruptly swung around, their spinal line turning to aim squarely at the exposed engine block of the Colossus. Onboard one of the Noble Cruisers, her captain grinned behind a cigar. "Gotcha." Twin explosions erupted from the fronts of each Noble as the fired their heavy Javelin cannons. Each explosion heralded the staccato fire of three massive slugs. Viridian turbolaser and blue energy torpedo fire lanced through the void to join the giant rounds to slam into the Immortal flank. As their weapons fired, the tractor beams released. The was some damage as a few emitters were overloaded from the strain of the maneuver, but the aim had been accomplished. Forward thrusters still firing, the ships momentum to continued to build and the ships began to move aft-first towards Omega.
The smaller cruisers weren't going to have any part in waiting for the fight to end either. As the Republic corvettes and frigates fired on the Maladi, the Alliance cruisers took advantage and shadowed the maneuver. As they moved, their defense cannons made one last volley of fire at the nearby Rogue Sith fighters. Their own fighters hid on the far side of the cruisers as they made their final push towards Omega. Cannons volleyed and Javelins thundered as they took aim at the exposed engine of the Maladi, looking to destroy the frigate as they passed. They flew with exposed shields double-reinforced while their angle of attack carried them through the fire line of the Hyatt station as well. Each took a portion of the fire to save their larger cousins the full brunt.
As his escape pod was pulled aboard the Leviathan, Ayden was slumped in the seat. His body pushed beyond straining through the force of redirecting such a massive object. Yet he wasn't in any true danger; his body appeared to be in a sort of hibernation trance, an old Jedi trick to reduce stress on their body and save themselves in very dire straits. This time though, it was a trance that was not entirely directed by the need to rest and recover. Rather, there was a small item that he carried in his jacket pocket. It was a cube, its edges adorned in silver with a pulsing lavender light coming from somewhere within. Anyone sensitive to the Force who held it would have instantly felt a warm, soul-soothing sensation; it was the sort of aura that had lingered around a Corellian Jedi hundreds of years ago. Legends had been born about the woman, and time and inheritance had carried this arifact into Ayden's possession. It was something that he never parted with without good reason.
Ayden's mind found itself on a world far away from the Rogue Sith and impending threat of Omega. There was a serenity here that he had not felt in ages, a true feeling of peace and safety that felt utterly out-of-reach from anywhere in the galaxy. Above him, Ayden watched as silver clouds were carried on gentle currents, their forms wafting and dancing with the winds. Soft chirps and cries filtered through the enormous trees that surrounded him, yet he did not feel trapped. Instead it felt more akin to being embraced by a feeling of pure sanctuary. He began to walk along a path, flowers and vines adorning the sides with color and splendor. He did not know where he was, he couldn't, but he felt as if he were going in the right direction.
A spreading sense of warm emerged from his chest, a guiding force that only encouraged his steps forward. As he came to the gentle cresting of a hill, Ayden saw himself on the rim of a grove more stunning than anything he had seen in the galaxy. The feeling of pure serenity came from this place in waves, clearly its source. Almost without thought, Ayden was drawn off the hilltop and down into the grove below. Passing through the trees, he found evidence of life among them. Animals of all sorts watched him with fearless curiosity. They knew no danger; what had they to fear of him? Further in, he began to suspect that someone else was there. Faintly he heard what sounded like a woman speaking, though the words were indistinct.
Coming into a clearing, Ayden saw a figure currently kneeling and tending to a small plant. Her quiet words didn't quite reach him, but Ayden couldn't help but immediately feel some sense of familiarity wash over him. He was certain that he'd never actually met this person given that he'd never seen this planet before in his life. The figure finally noticed his presence and stood to turn. Immediately Ayden was struck by how tiny she was. Yet there was a silent strength that somehow made her seem larger than she was. She looked at him and tilted her head with a serene grin that belied the amusement within. "You should pay attention to what's going on around you. We can talk later." There was a lightness there, a close familiarity to her tone that immediate struck Ayden. It almost felt like gentle chastisement.
It was then, as his mind felt as it was being split open by a barrage of images, that a faint moment of recognition set it. The world melted away in waves of colors and Ayden suddenly became very conscious of the cold durasteel beneath him. People were talking around him, but none paid attention to the now nominally lucid Corellian. Weakly, he smiled as the information finally came forward, his mind finally connecting threads together over lifetimes of learning and teaching. A tiny, yet indomitable woman with a penchant for saving lives and spreading peace; he had seen her face before, from within the same lavender holocron that rested on the table beside him. "[member="Bethany Kismet"]."
And then Ayden flatlined.
