Episode 7 Teaser Trailer Is Here

[member="Coric Adromak"], What's nice is that he was using an unstable lightsaber crystal. (you can tell by the shard and breaking effect of the lightsaber instead of the standard bar of energy) ;)

I'm a member of a 007 fan forum, and in a 'SW' thread this was observed about the Sith saber:

Now before this comes up for discussion, I'd like to point out the lightsaber. Everyone I know has been trashing it's look, but I quite like it. It's got this old fashioned, evil look to it, with the medieval claymore design. However. That hand guard is not a small lightsaber.

At least I believe it isn't, unless the main villain intends of accidentally hurting himself haha. What I'd like to point out is that if you actually watch that point in the trailer again, you'll see how the overall lightsaber blade comes out and stays completely solid, whereas the other two sort of eject and fluctuate. Almost like exhaust. Those two side ports are basically functioning like vector nozzle, like on a fighter jet. It's excess energy from inside being ejected to prevent instability.

Thoughts?

I've seen people say things like this.

But I'm not sure that's the case, although I could be wrong.

It could look that way because the beam itself looks unstable.

As long as it doesn't have this, we'll be fine!

Seeing as they are re-writing what is movie canon, and separating canon into "legends" and "movie" rather than making one single fluid canon, that very well could be the case. However, lightsabers have never had a design for that sort of exhaust - it doesn't require it. The power source is ridiculously efficient - to the point of probably being the sort of power source humanity should be striving towards - and the blade itself does not constantly drain energy due to the field it is contained in to keep it "lit".

I thought it was overall "okay". Didn't like the lightsaber at all or that stupid lens flare during the Falcon scene. I did enjoy the X-Wing sequence and the new Stormtroopers.

Not very excited over all, but some decent elements were in the trailer.
