Sorry for the late responses, everyone; I'll be on for a moment to review everything we've discussed and post the daily recap. I'll be doing these as we progress through idea bouncing, so we can take a step back, review decisions made or thoughts spoken, and decide what would be the best day to progress. After about a day of this thread exploding with fantastic ideas, maybe we should pick a few paths to proceed, so we don't accidentally overwhelm ourselves with a variety of alternative storylines.
First off, let me welcome all the new people who've joined us since we began; great to have you onboard and you all have gone nuts with the concept, which is fantastic.
Also, please make sure to follow this thread if you intend to be involved with the planning; everyone gets an equal opportunity to define this story, and, to be quite frank, it'll be important that you do. This will, hopefully, last us a good long while and requires a bit of initiative from all of us. I see a lot of you taking this idea and running with it, which is great, so keep up the good work.
I also want to make a note that I intentionally exclude personal decisions pertaining to character development and so forth, since the recap posts are simply for public review and scrutiny; your decisions revolving around character development are for you alone to decide and stamp with approval, so long as it does not conflict with the overall story. However, if you'd like this overall development to play a bigger role in the story, which you are all free to do - so long as you can manage the
extra workloads - please tag me in the post.
RECAP:
Damn, you guys gave me
a lot to read.
So, as initially discussed, we will be using a prison vessel named the Purgatory for the introductory setting of the RP. We'll all be there for different reasons, which can be determined by the individual writer; but ultimately the goal is the same - we're a part of an annual event (Singularity) where we'll be forced to combat each other in a Hunger Games-esque system, where we'll be injected with prototype stims/combat enhancers (Silas Miu) in order to test the product to the delight of nobles, criminal overlords, military leaders, and so forth during this underground, and highly illegal event, while also being viewed for entertainment. We'd be psychologically manipulated, tortured, and forced to fight one another - the variety of dynamics that come into play will require a lot of forethought; however, I definitely like where this is going. In that case, it would definitely be wise to create our
own planet for this use, since this annual event would likely heavily be ingrained into the culture, depending on the time it's been implemented - which I imagine would be quite awhile to build up this notoriety in order to attract so many high-ranking figures - and it would also help to have the freedom to create what we'll need for the setting. I think a dangerous, shadowlands-esque planet (Nicair Claden) would be an excellent idea. Share your thoughts on this.
So, from there, we escape onto the planet's surface; either that or we'd escape once we're already on the ground - perhaps the ship we stole wouldn't have a hyperdrive? Though, we'd be hard-pressed to find one like that. As Jakkor Kess suggested, we might have explosive devices around our necks - but we'd need a way to work around them; perhaps they'd remove them once the game began? It might be further initiative to escape post-landing; again, I'd love to hear your input. Silas Miu, Singularity, and Jaster will work on the company together - I'll contact you guys later via PM to better discuss how to manage this. This'll probably be all we need to manage it; however, if anyone else would be interested in involving themselves with that project, please feel free to notify them or me. Another option was provided by Nicair where we would not necessarily escape, but try to survive the prison - this would definitely make for an interesting thread, where we'd have to band together to survive until we made it to the planet, where we could
then break free and escape into the wilderness.
Where the company could come into play following this - especially if the antagonist truly does have all the resources we've built him up to have - could come through a variety of avenues. Perhaps, due to the discreet nature of the planet, they would not openly attempt to silence us, out of fear to drawing attention; perhaps the planet this takes place on is simply the dangerous moon of a larger planet with a more merchant/trade-oriented focus, giving the company-runners the ability to tap into the galactic market close to where the resistance RP will take place. Again, give me thoughts regarding this. In addition, we still need antagonists for this RP; it'll carry a variety of heavy responsibilities, so please keep this in mind - if you have a tight schedule or fickle muse, it may not be for you. However, if you still remain interested and confident in your ability, please send me a PM to notify me. Tomorrow, if we get enough nominations, we'll discuss this openly in the thread to decide what's best for the group. Regarding the antagonist, a great idea was shared by Aerin The Lost in PM, regarding that the antagonist would actually be posing as a prisoner to view the chaos up close - maybe to review the effects of the stims, to sabotage any rebellious motives; this would largely depend on the elected antagonist's opinions, and it would be complicated to do, but I found the idea a nice twist and I would love to hear what you guys have to say about that.
We'll need to determine the type of drug, if any, and details regarding it; feel free to toss ideas or, if you have any, concerns about utilizing this for the plot.
Another neat dynamic we could use is the withdrawal effects, again up to the opinion of each individual writer; this is about us as individuals, not as a whole - the more control we have over the story as people, not a group overall, the better. We want to remain passionate about that, and we can't manage that unless there's a little bit of individuality shared between us and the story; hence, why I encourage you all to contribute ideas and to go above and beyond.
RECAP OVER
There we have it - if I missed anything, please let me know; but, hopefully, we can narrow down what we want out of all these options today, in order to keep things moving. Keep up the good work, everyone!
