Faction Direction

At this point the vote is moot. OP has solidly favored the option of no merger, leaving us with options of soldiering on as either a Rebellion or maintaining.

From what I can tell, maintaining seems to be the popular vote, so now what we have to think about is how we wish to maintain and get a cohesive story going.

Good thinking. I'll let Kiskla take the lead here and offer some ideas firstly on how she would envision us proceeding forward as a Faction. Especially with this vote behind us now. I'll apply my comments only after hearing what she has to say. :D :p

Cheers.

This isn't something to be decided by just Kiskla. Yes she's the new FO, but it is not and never has been up to the FO to decide the absolute fate of a faction IC and OOC at all times. Yes they are expected to help guide things along and keep things running smoothly, but this faction lives and dies by its members.

What are YOUR ideas?

In some cases it is already in the works. Both the Navy and the Army on the NFU side have begun to set up IC structures and are working on several new threads moving forward which I am pleasantly surprised is seeing attention from Kiskla and others supporting these initiatives. On the FU side I know Corvus is working on picking up a new Padawan or two and I have seen some new threads on the FU side as well.

The only thing left it for people who have not already done so to pick a thread or two and jump in. Hopefully there will be some joint Skirmish/Dominion types threads in a week or two if I have to start them myself. :p

All of which supports either direction left on the table to decide.

Echoing the words of [member="Avalore Eden"] and reflecting on something I remember saying a few days ago - we've generated a lot of passion on this topic. Let's not waste it by either waiting to be 'told' what to do or looking for others to take the lead all the time.

It's our Faction and if we act IC, we should just do what our characters would do. The key is in the doing. Share ideas and act upon them. People who post here are all part of the leadership of the Faction.

At present, yes, I'm focused on recruiting Padawans and generally recruiting active members. To paraphrase a well used saying (well it wouldn't be a Corvus post without one, would it):

'Ask not what your Faction can do for you, ask what you can do for your Faction.'

He should have added, don't just ask - do it (but Nike weren't around in those days to sponsor him).

Going to hate myself forever for this, but...

Thank you! I love you! Have my babies!

This faction is just as much about the work we as faction members put in as the work the admins put in and while I have been really bad at doing anything for the faction (as of yet) I recently began looking into possible ways of getting the Faction involved with each other a bit more. In a sense what I want to see us do is "merge" all our groups into one big cozy little story-writing family.

For example: The Senate (Senators) doesn't need to RP solely with other senators just as much as Jedi doesn't need to mingle with just Jedi. Sure, it makes sense as the interests are mutual but I still want to see us all get together in stories.

Top of my head:

(Since nothing is fleshed out in this scenario I am aware it would be really weak in the story department for certain parties of this.)

The senator of a planet has to deal with morale being at an all time low. People are getting restless and the senator has to hold a speech to reassure them all will be fine. However, there is a problem. An assassin (who can be an NPC or PC brought in from the outside) has set their eyes on this senator and is planning on 'ending this speech early'. Commence the army and jedi working to prevent this.

Yep, kind of a lacking scenario but it was the best I could think of at 11am and at work.

The point is this: I think we should get us all involved in stories that doesn't relate to simply the part of the republic that our character belong to.

For example a jedi getting others into a scenario primarily suitable for jedi is cool and all but it's not easy to adapt to that scenario if you as a writer aren't part of the target audience. Usually you just end up losing interest.

So what I am interested in - and trying to think up myself - is more stories that bring us all together as a faction. Bridge the gaps between who it is we play with. To come up with stories about the Republic as a whole and build onto the Republic's story as well as our own.

For better or for worse we're in this together until death or divorce do us apart. I think we're all amazing writers and it would be such a shame if we didn't all work together now and then.

Maybe we could have monthly threads that involved everyone equally?

There are other options to this also. I have a Jedi Watchmen (A type of Jedi Sentinel that works closely with senators and governmental bodies. They're the guardians of a specified planet or sector, and act as the mediator between the government and the Jedi). I'd love to find a senator who would like to do regular RP with me and play on this.

I swear I feel like a broken record already.

These are all things that are being done already in small doses. I have Torill running around in Navy threads doing Navy stuff plus helping with humanitarian projects as well as the Senate stuff.

I have Maximus doing Army stuff, also doing humanitarian stuff, and currently even have him playing nice with both a Navy person and through some cleaver wording interacting with Jedi.

I can't do this by myself and am paying heck trying to get the rest of you to post consistently in threads that I have been offering and tagging people in.

Torill is all about cooperation and can be considered an option.

Well I suppose I'll chime in with my two cents (and trust me, that is all its worth!). I have not been a member of Chaos particularly long. Therefore, I don't have as clear a picture in my mind of what the Republic was compared to what it is now. I gather that we are in a period of flux, where things are changing, perhaps for the good or bad, only time will tell. What I can say is that the fact that we are in a period of flux is good from a writers perspective. The Republic on Chaos is mirroring many of the issues that arise in real governing bodies. Great civilization often go through periods of stagnation and decline and they either rise from the ashes or don't. So for me, it is a good sign in that Chaos is doing a good job of mirroring what would likely happen in the Star Wars galaxy supposing it were real.

Now, moving on from that. What I have noticed, and again this is from the perspective of a relatively new member, is that the One Sith are more organized then we are. My experiences in the invasions has been one of being overwhelmed. This could be a byproduct of the One Sith being very popular right now and therefore fielding more people, but I do believe they also prepare better for invasions. I would like to see more organization prior to an invasion and then communications during the invasion on the OOC Republic forums where we can request aid and such. I noticed that with the last Alderaan battle, that was starting to happen and I thought it was a good thing.

That being said, we've got a lot of newer members coming in and if we can get them active I think the membership base could be strengthened. One way in which this might be achieved is more cross-disciplinary missions among faction members. As [member="Torill Holgor"] has mentioned this is being done in small doses, so perhaps we can just try and amplify this. As a Jedi I tend to stick to Jedi specific things, like training padawans, sparring with fellow Jedi and embarking on the Jedi Missions. Perhaps we should start to blend these things together. Whenever a Jedi mission is put into the works, we usually have some criteria such as (2 padawans, 2 Knights or 2 padawans, 1 master). Perhaps it would benefit us to start including NFU in these Jedi based missions. We could have missions where the Jedi are leading military tasks forces, or where the military is in command and the Jedi are tagging along.

So these are just a few thoughts. Again, these are my personal opinions based on the perception of someone who hasn't been here particularly long. Perceptions are admitted biased and therefore perhaps my perception isn't the same as anothers. I am always open to the possibility that I'm wrong!! :)

On a personal note, I use to do this years ago with a very small group that initially met on Lucasart forums and it was very, very enjoyable. Then the whirlwind of life drew me away from it and I tried many times to come back to it, but never got back into it. It wasn't until I found Chaos that I really began enjoying it again. The people here are fantastic, and rping is fun and challenging, and I just want to say thanks to everyone for doing such a good job! The fact that we have so many people posting here regarding how to fix/help the Republic is testimony to how much everyone cares and how great a group it is!

I am just going to make one little interjection in an otherwise very nice post. The One Sith are not as organized as you may thing. Actually it is the exact opposite. In the One Sith it is no more organized than here are the objectives go nuts. All they have is more active participation.

If we can get this new Battle Group idea off the ground and push a 2/3 on 1 then things can be turned around. We also have to contend on the FU side that the One Sith have more Master level people than we do. Mostly due to accelerated promotions in One Sith. Now while I am not proposing adopting the same mentality it is something to keep in mind.

[member="Maximus Stanforth"], I stand corrected! From the outside it appeared so to me, but I suppose appearances can be deceiving.
No worries man it is all good. :)
