Jax's time back with the Jedi has been filled with ups and downs, he kept to himself trying to strengthen his connection with the Force and training other Padawans, yet in the process he had sensed a presence that he had not felt in a long time. Pom once again had called to Jax for what, Jax did not know but it was definitely not to catch up on some old some old times that was for sure.

As the war between the Galactic Alliance and the Sith raged on, Jax arrived at the Coven taking a deep breath while clutching the hilt of his Lightsaber. Pom was hellbent in killing Jax over the years, hell she killed him once before Jairdain Jairdain revived him. It's been a back-and-forth affair with Jax and Pom with Jax wanting to redeem Pom but she was comfortable on who she was. Something that saddened Jax but he was slowly starting to accept. "Sometimes you have to let things go," he muttered. "Pom chose this path and she won't deviate from it, I just need to make sure that no one gets hurt."

The Jedi Master looked at the entrance frowning. "Pom!" Jax shouted. "I'm back! Ready for the next round?!"

Stealth fighters! But not the clever ones from the mission a time back. Not a lurking ghost at the far end of sensor range, but encroaching silently nearby for a backstab.

They would never learn not to sent non-automated cloaked ships with living pilots against foes with force sensitivity!

While her wingman Seela was taking out the three targets with missiles the Sith Knight felt the life signatures and the shock at the loss of their comrades.
It was like a beacon for her, as her incredibly fast ship rolled into the invisible formation of the stealth A-Wings, guns blazing, ion engines shrieking.

It was like target practicing. The bright halos of the life aura from the pilots was at the weak point of the enemy craft - the cockpit!
Lord Tooka's laser beams were frightening precise surgical strikes, as the enemy panicked and started to fire back instead of sacrificing a few of their own to close in to their designated targets.
The Sith ace danced between the hail of red laser fire, predicting their shots before they were even fired. Teasing them to fire more and break out of silent running to dodge her own fire.

So the surly devastating surprise attack of the GA at their targets was prevented and the position of the stealth ships were compromised. Compromised to a waiting squadron of interceptors!

The clear, melodic elven voice of the Sephi had the sharpness of a monmolecular blade, as she radioed her elite squadron:
"There the cowards are, Bloodstripes! They are all yours! Interceptors, INTERCEPT THEM!"

Vulpesen Torrevaso, Valde of Veradune, Archwilder of the Vitae, and savior of the Zorren race was many things. A fool was not one among them. As each stone spear launched towards him, he let the force run over him, his saber deactivating just as quickly as it had come on. With gasping a sigh, the Valde collapsed in on himself, billowing cloak and elvish form shrinking in a moment to something far less threatening but far more nimble. A Terylax. After flitting through the stone with an easy agility, Vulpesen rolled himself up into an armored ball to roll along one of the jutting stalagmites.

The more he dodged, flew, and rolled, the closer Vulpesen became. It was one of the tricks that he was most excited to pull out of the bag since his return to the galaxy. As a jedi he had been a one-trick ronto. Throw daggers, move around, then throw more daggers. Now, he was so much more, an arch-wilder with all the power and cunning of nature at his disposal. It was time to show the sith how even the smallest creature could lay them low if used right.

Eira had donned a mask, and selected attire more suited for working a mission. She had taken these steps since she wanted to hide her appearance, though she wasn't sure if this would be her final look as a Sith warrior, it was definitely the one she had selected for now. Eira had decided to work again with Phaelissia on a mission. Their previous mission had gone well, at least, she felt they had worked together well so she was more willing to work with the woman again.

Better to work with a known asset than an unknown one.

She had forgone her practice saber, equipping herself with several daggers and leaning into her skills with the Force over a sword. Should the mission go well, they wouldn't be facing any real trouble for long. And Eira trusted in her allies to ensure that things would go well. Stepping off the speeder bike, she looked around the region, it was a new world that she was on once again. Eira was getting used to constantly seeing new worlds, climates and dealing with the changes that they brought. This was a colder climate than her body had been used to but it was tolerable and Eira did not show any signs of feeling the cold.

"I understand. I remember the briefing." Eira stated, she looked over the Phaelissia, making sure there was no doubt that Eira had been paying attention to the mission when she was needing to. "Good to know you remembered our mission as well." While she did not say anything about letting Phaelissia taking the lead on the mission, she gestured for the other woman to take the lead on the mission and just focused her mind on what she was needing to do and breathing in deeply.

She could not fail.

A wave of heat rippled toward them, dark and violent with anger. Empyrean may have been a wound in the Force, but with that came a marvelous display of power.

Valery lifted a hand, enveloping the pair of Jedi in a protective barrier. For all her time as Valery's student, Cora was no less impressed with her ability to deflect such a potent assault.

The Knight paced back, allowing herself a better view of the clash between titans. Even here, her face was still flushed from the unpleasant warmth of Empyrean's mental strike.

The strength Cora poured into battle meditation lessened. It was a difficult link to keep up in a safe, serene atmosphere - and nearly impossible with a powerful Sith Lord throwing his weight into the Force.

Drawing her saber was an unconscious act, the blue blade igniting in her right hand while her left extended towards Empyrean, then clenched into a fist. Above him, a panel of lights shattered, sending a hail of tiny glass shards down upon The Dead God.

Like a fly buzzing around a bull's head.

"Well, we'd rather not die," Zaiya replied calmly but didn't appear to make any move to attack the Sith. Again, she was a product of her species and Shan Pavond Shan Pavond 's training; she didn't go out searching for fights or trouble but wanted to discuss a solution. Granted, while she was naturally non-violent, it also didn't mean she wouldn't fully step into defending, protecting, and assisting Aris if this turned into a fight.

All the while, Zaiya was carefully summoning the Force, pulling at the threads so that they would coalesce and build within her. The massive Sith Lord was bound to be powerful in his attacks, and while Aris had supernatural strength, this was still a fully-fledged Sith Lord, and they were Padawans. Sure, they had each other for support, but this would be their first time dealing with a Sith together.

Odds were, if it came down to it, Aris would be the one directly fighting. It would be up to her to assist him. Preparation for using the Force was key.

"Although it would be amusing if you were felled by two younglings. Are you sure you want to risk it?" The confidence in Zaiya's voice was a ploy to aggravate the Sith into making a mistake. Emotion can make one powerful, but it can also cause errors. They had to take into consideration their surroundings. A tunnel with a limited amount of headspace, the body of a dead poison Nether beast, the availability of rocks that could be tossed and thrown, and just how much noise would they make to alert other creatures and pique their curiosity into heading their way?

Phaelissia nodded. The acolyte understood the tasking, so there was little need to explain anything further. Thus, the Aetharian gestured for her to follow before turning around and setting off down the hill. From there, Phaelissia crouched down low, keeping to low-light areas and the taller pieces of what little vegetation that was in the area. The photo-reactive camouflage on her bodysuit supplemented her efforts at stealth, rendering her small-statured form nigh-invisible against the backdrop as she used her skills to move swiftly and silently.

All the while, the clamor of violence transpiring not too far away from them continued unabated. Blaster discharges, lightsaber clashes, and feral, otherworldly roars sounded out with steady frequency. However, Phaelissia maneuvered past it, using the data from her probe droid and her sensors to do so. She knew that the task Eira needed to perform would be demanding—mentally, physically, and spiritually. Any energy expended fighting would invariably draw from her reservoirs of strength, thereby making it harder for her to set the runes. To mitigate any unnecessary energy expenditure, Phaelissa hoped to avoid fighting outright, but she sensed that such an ideal might ultimately be impossible to achieve.

Suddenly, the Aetharian raised her hand, gesturing for an immediate halt. Moments later, a trio of Ghouls, their forms laden with bony spikes and bits of rotten flesh, shambled past the two womens’ hiding spot, foul hisses and grunts on their decayed tongues. Phaelissia waited a few seconds longer after they passed, before nodding and continuing ahead.

After a little more than ten minutes, they reached the designated ingress point into the fortress—a large wall leading to one of the ramparts. They would have to scale it.

“I’ll go first, my lady.” Phaelissia offered. With that, the Cipher placed her hands against the wall, at which point the gription panels in her gloves adhered to the surface.

Then, trusting that Eira and the probe droid would cover her back (and that the photo-reactive camouflage coating on her bodysuit would keep her somewhat concealed), the Cipher began to climb.

The opposition after the droids' initial onslaught was much stiffer than had been foreseen by KRONOS, but one thing was certain, this shock and awe tactic had at the very least given the sith troopers and their commanding sith an opening to deliver a strong push forwards, as they took the opportunity to utilize the chaos sown by the Scelerati to return fire with their own heavy artillery installations, rocket launchers and ordinances to further batter against the crumbling wall that had been the staunch defense of the GA troops and their Jedi compatriots.

Sceleratis' 1, 2 and 3 had managed to get right in the fray, but while their initial assault was extremely successful, the Jedi were the first to regain their bearings and even did so remarkably fast, most likely as a result of the battle meditation allowing a sereen feeling of unity to be spread among them, but it was exactly that which these droids wanted to break. Their Ebony fangs dripped with darkness, being used to deflect incoming blaster fire and force lightning, though it didn't help the droids against the jedis' force push, which though it didn't flung them backwards like an ordinary organic being of flesh and blood, did force them to slide back several yards and even unbalance them.

Sceleratis One

As Sceleratis one was being hounded by two force users at once, the droid relied on its flexibility and surprising range of movement, utilizing the Ebony fang blade to defend against the large number of incoming blasterfire, while attempting to use its Verpine hand cannon to shoot several more force breaker rounds towards its opponents with in particular the Matriarch at first being the clear target. With a limber backwards flip, the sceleratis aimed to avoid several of the strange portals suddenly starting to appear and nearly overwhelm it. This clearly made the Zabrak male a more potent target to deal with, thus completely foregoing its defense against arguably the least of its problems in the form of the blaster fire, the sceleratis suddenly dropped a handful of small, round metallic orbs at which point a loud noise would be followed by a sudden fog of dense smoke pulling up and around the whole group, obscuring any proper vision.

The droid attempted to utilize this smokescreen to rush towards the position of the Zabrak male, raising his handcannon once again in order to try and get a few good successful shots at the force user with the greatest potential to be a nuissance at that very moment.

Sceleratis Two

Sceleratis two was having an equally tough time, if not somewhat worse, for where sceleratis one had to deal with only two opponents, the second one was being targeted by a much larger force. Thus rather than awaiting the result of their retaliation, it reached behind its back and threw a handful of small metallic orbs towards the Aegis Knights, which as they exploded formed a large, thick fog of dense smoke around them. All the while the Sceleratis attempted to slink back into the ranks of the Sith who were pushing ever forward with new resolve. The sceleratis wasn't dumb enough to take on half a dozen trained force users on its own, not after its objective had arguably already been fullfilled.

Sceleratis Three

The Third Sceleratis had possibly the worst luck of the lot, even though it managed to brutally take down a few of the jedi, it was cutt off from any proper escape and before it could reach for the smoke bombs every one of its brethren held within their frame, a massive surge of electricity coarsed through the droid. Though the droid brain which controlled the droid was highly resistant against pure electricity due to its intrinsic field and induction based composition, other parts of the droid's system were not that resistent to this sort of energy coarsing through them. With its plating starting to bulge and warp, wisps of smoke and sparks starting to escape from in between the sections of armor.

Slumping down to the ground, shortaged out and smoking, the droid's erratically flickering eyes and metallic voice seemed to be the only things still properly working. "No mercy..."

When the Sceleratis' arms dropped to the ground, a handful of small round thermal detonators rolled around him, bleeping as if to denote that they had been armed and primed. Within but the blink of an eye, the entire area around the droid would be blasted to kingdom come by a massive explosion, burning everything away within its grasp.

Sceleratis Four and Five

The force user and the kashyyk wookie seemed to be rather crafty, managing to take cover again and calling in for another air strike, but while this would not have been that big of a deal usually, considering they had just been targeted by a raid and carpet bombing before, the two droids didn't like this, foregoing their stealth and rather than that running straight for the two force users, holding their Verpine cannons high and firing off a volley of forcebreaker rounds towards the two men.

Sceleratis Six

Perhaps more surprising was the fact that a final Sceleratis was arriving aboard a very fast and powerful little starcraft that zipped over the ruins towards the location of the two men, attempting to strafe them and their position with a hail of slugs coming from the two twin turrets with FLAK, firing off DSI rounds towards the two before it would speed up again and take a turn to avoid the incoming craft from the Alliance; making a wide arc in order to try and intercept the incoming bombers and bombard them with its forward located Ion pulse canons.

"No mercy."

EIATTU SIX

He eased away from his viewing position again, lofting a brow beneath his balaclava as Hakon spoke, nodding once before mulling over his line of questioning. "I was a fire support scout trooper when I fought for the Empire. A profession which some of our kind might regard as...cowardly. But I'd sent the kill order on the lives of many more than I'll ever kill in person doing it." He remarked, peering back toward the battle before glancing toward Hakon to gauge his reaction to the claim.

"In any given operation...I'd be right about here. Out of sight, pair of binocs in my hand. My job was to get eyes on the enemy before the enemy ever got eyes on us. From there...you'd use the weapons which are out of sight to kill the enemy. Artillery, air and space power...anything that wasn't a direct engagement."
Trajan explained.

"If I was the Alliance, I'd be dialing every net I could to get air superiority, to get counter battery on their artillery. Fires like that can shape the battle field, make a lost hope worth fighting for. That's where I'd start. They have the high ground, the fortifications. The Sith are all but feeding themselves to it as they come aboard. Good...make 'em pay." Trajan explained.

"There's no teeth in this war anymore...Jedi and Sith. They only pluck at one another from afar. If they were truly the existential foes they claim to be, they'd be fighting over the Core worlds or Dromund Kaas...but here they are, some meaningless rock." He remarked, letting off a sigh.

"We need to be better than them. We need to be smarter...stronger...the Galaxy has been inherited by weakness..."

"Y..Yes, my Lord."

Jarek watched Darth Strosius calmly exit the shuttle, seemingly unbothered by the near constant explosions surrounding them. This was in stark contrast to the young acolyte, who's ears now had a ringing that didn't seem to stop. With the snap-hiss of his crimson blade, the Lord Inquisitor issued his commands. The troopers, and other Sith, rallied to his call. The young, aspiring Sith felt the affects of his words as well.

Their first objective was issued, to take out the enemy's AA, and Jarek was going to do whatever it took to accomplish this task. The Echani Acolyte did not have a Master yet, and needed to rise and prove himself that he deserved to be an apprentice. Jarek overheard Lord Strosius' command to Kasir Dorran, "An assassin?", he wanted to see Kasir in action. Before he could, he felt the piercing stare of the Lord Inquisitor, even from behind the mask.

"My Lord, I will learn whatever you teach.", Jarek said in response.

The deafening roar of the enemy artillery was slightly muffled by the mobile shield platforms that Darth Strosius ordered, only to be replaced by the droids firing their cannons on the enemey. Darth Strosius joined the charge towards the enemy, his troopers in tow. The Acolyte activated his training saber, it's blade hissing alive, and joined in the advanced. He was ready to fight, he was ready for war.

Kalzok drew back his hands, pulling and twisting the Force around him. The swirling earth coalesced into a solid wall of hard earth between Vulpesen and Kalzok, right in the path of the Wilder. This master of the Force was an unusual one- quite unlike a Jedi of the Order. But shapeshifting would not save him.

Kalzok released control of the rest of the ground apart from the solid wall, and sent telekinetic blasts of air at Vulpesen's Terylax-form: the air turbulence would slow and even bring him down, enough for a fatal blow. Electricity crackled around him as the Loremaster readied himself, savouring the anticipation of the killing blow.

"Demon to Solo II, hold your fire, but keep the droid poppers prepped. Demon to Roach, we'll be providing fire support but nothing else. Call in priority targets whenever you deem necessary."

Holding a hand up in the air as the convoy came to a screeching halt, "Open Fire with all forward batteries!, On coordinates 155.93817." the 10 Armored Assault Tanks emitted a deafening hum as they moved forward, while the Heavy laser cannon (1) and anti-personnel Repeating blaster cannons (2) unleashed their firepower, creating a destructive display in the jungle, tearing through the dense foliage of trees and roots.
"INCOMING!"

"Take cover!"

A storms of laser fire ripped through the swamp, singing through the humid air, sparking through the roots and branches, flash-boiling pools of water. Even as a few Marines were hit, the dense swamp began to fall into itself, further blocking the paths between the droids and Marines.

<<Pronto to Demon, priority targets on grid square 20-15, corner East. Enemy has heavy cannons on us, near the Armored Tanks in formation.>>

<<Data Uplink sent.>> Fortune-1 reported to Sara. Gress D'ran Gress D'ran and his fire coordination teams would see the AATs lazed by the unopposed Ravens. It would be up to them to triage that compared to the Transports.

One regiment of B1-Series battle droid consisting of 1,000 mixed droid units would begin to advance. With Heavy Battle Droids in front and Battle Droid Assassins behind them providing covering fire.

<<Hostile foot troopers advancing! We're moving back.>> Scuttle radioed in.

<<We're set up- Sundial is just one bound behind you.>> Her XO reported, referring to Second Platoon.

<<Rearguard, fall back. Sundial, keep the enemy busy!>> She waved the rearguard onwards. Sara could see Sundial deeper in the swamp, set up on overwatch. Towards the enemy, past the dense net of ripped foliage, and steam, Sara could see the Scuttle teams, bounding across collapsed branches. Just behind them marched the advance wave of B1's. Coming into range of the heavier repeaters of the first group, and the Marines opened up, scything them down, scattering the droids.

<<Scuttle scouts all accounted for, HQ, on your southern flank.>>

Sara and the rear guard reached Sundial's position, where fireteams were coordinating suppressing fire on the droids. From here, they fired from behind a fallen thick trunk, deep swamp water between them and the droids. The B1s at the head of their formation were not suited to this environment at all, falling into the water, and others struggling with the boggy earth.

"Boss, we got reports of assassin droids trying to flank us to the north."

Sara nodded, checking her tacmap as the other Marines' armour trackers pinged off. The Marines had spread out, drawing the droids further in and pulling them apart in different directions.

<<Mobile maneuver teams: Stay in the water and foliage- these clankers are not suited for this terrain.>>

With the defensive advantage and enviro-adapted armour, she hoped the Marines would be able to overmatch the droids. As the minutes dragged on, from this firing position, Sara could see Marines taking up ambush spots, striking at isolated squads of B1s and Super Battle Droids. For her own position with Sundial, a wave of B1s supported by B2s and a few assassin droids broke from cover, charging.

Her blaster cannon opened up, cutting through some of them, but the enemy supporting fire was too heavy, and she and the others had to duck down. Where was the fire support?

Then the droids were upon them, and it was close combat. Sara swung her cannon like a battering ram, knocking over a droid that had climbed over the thick trunk she was sheltering behind. It fell into the water, struggling to get up.

"Fortune-1, move back to the third bound, we need to keep control of the Ravens. Sundial-4, escort the drone team." She called out to the fourth squad of the platoon.

"Roger!" Sara let go of her cannon and pulled out her sidearm, firing at another droid that advanced ever closer, as she dived into the swamp water. Laser bolts flashed into the water, bursting into steam as it impacted. Her armour was water-sealed, and the HUD showed the location of the nearest droids, firing in vain at the Marines that had dived into the water near them. It was simple enough to grab them by the leg and pull the droids down, stabbing with vibro knives and close-range blasts.

Marines call in fire support on the laser cannons and tanks
Drone teams coordinate targeting with Battalion fire support
Marines pull deeper into the swamp and spread out, pulling the numerically superior droids into different directions
Marines make use of terrain and specialised armour to maximise defensive advantage

Suddenly, the enemy pilot ( Shar Sieu Shar Sieu ) that Seela had marked might register a lock-threat warning blaring through his helmet. It was likely accompanied by the insistent howl of a missile lock alert as a single proton missile raced towards the X-Wing of Revenant Four from extended range. With her own missile launched, Seela immediately rolled and broke hard to starboard, putting maximum Gs on her starfighter in anticipation of enemy missiles fired in response. All the while, chaff and flares were spat out in her wake. Even with the stealthy characteristics of her craft, the Twi’lek was not prepared to take any chances with so many hostile fighters active in the battlespace.

“Mark six, engaged!”

No sooner had Shar launched concussion missiles at the target than his sensor warning receiver began blaring.

"Power to engines!" The green bars on his console slammed up as he twisted out of the way and pulled back on the stick- straining to get out of range of the proton torpedo. The TX-05-A1 was fast and nimble, but evading a torpedo at this angle solely by maneuver was still a difficult task.

His astromech 'strongly recommended' activating the missile deactivation transmitter onboard, as the torpedo pulled G's that would shred any biological pilot into minced meat gaining on him. "Yea, get on that," Shar strained to speak, the inertial dampeners kicking in.

The torpedo detonated prematurely, the blast largely absorbed by the X-Wings shields, but still singing enough of the hull that the damage reduction armor components flared briefly.

The enemy fighter was on the scope, swirling around, pulling hard to dodge his missiles. Amidst the cloud of microdebris rapidly filling the battlespace, Shar could see the signature blinking in and out too often. He rapidly toggled between the sensor arrays- no dice. This was a stealth fighter.

"We need some sort of lock-on signature..." The astromech reminded him that damage to its hull would likely scratch the stealth coating, or create bumps and pits easily tracked by modern sensor arrays. Ion blasts could work too, Shar thought, but he reminded himself he was not in his B-Wing anymore. "Keep up the data scans- we can at least get basic performance data on it the longer we tangle."

The two missiles he'd fired had gone wide, fooled by chaff and the heavy-G turn. Fortunately, that had put the target in a predictable turn, bleeding energy. With the slight time advantage gained by his missile deactivation transmitter, Shar cashed it in by racing towards the target, putting powers to frontal shields and cannons.

Four Heavy Laser Cannons spit superheated death at the stealth fighter, firing into the path of its turn. Shar cut speed to lengthen the firing window, before putting power back into engines to race away from his hit-and-run attack. The astromech's data scan continued to examine the enemy fighter, waiting for just a bit more data to complete evaluations...

Seela’s implants launched into overdrive as she pushed her starfighter through the break, heightening the clarity of her awareness so that seconds were akin to minutes and minutes became hours. All the while, the Twi’lek split her attention among multiple tasks, causing a hot sweat to break out across her brow as she worked. Sensors, throttle, shields, weapons, thrusters, and yet more were controlled via the neural link, each managed with such ruthless precision that they were almost ingrained into her awareness. Amidst it all, her gaze honed in on the X-Wing while it accelerated into her trajectory, cuing the Twi’lek in on what the enemy pilot intended to do next.

Suddenly, just as it seemed that she might not be able to turn any tighter, Seela slammed the foot pedals just before the bandit opened fire, splitting the throttle so that her port-side engine briefly carried the bulk of the power allocation. In doing so, her starfighter’s nose was abruptly pulled towards the fore of the X-Wing as the Twi’lek tightened her turn to a fine point, briefly shifting the tail-chase into a head-on so that both pilots were momentarily a threat to the other.

In that regard, Seela didn’t wait longer than a microsecond. As the superheated plasma bolts from the X-Wing raced past her fighter (with two grazing her shields in the process) she took an instantaneous snap shot. On cue, four branching electrical discharges exploded out from each of her starfighter’s ion cannons at once, unleashing a salvo akin to a thunderous quartet of lightning strikes. Having aimed for the X-Wing’s fuselage, Seela hoped that her attack might disable critical systems, such as the astromech, sensors, avionics, life support, or if she was lucky, the pilot outright.

Then, with a swift mental command, Seela injected a tiny shot of coaxium into the engines, enough to recover some of her energy as the X-Wing buzzed past her starfighter. From there, the Twi’lek raised her lips as she whipped her machine around in a half-loop, followed by a quick roll as she accelerated in roughly the opposite direction from her initial trajectory. A quick course correction thereafter was enough to bring her into a pure pursuit tail-chase after the X-Wing, which briefly opened the distance before Seela kicked another minuscule shot of coaxium into her engines.

<<OO-10, fox four—concussion. Shift power to retainers.>> Seela said to her astromech. The data streaming into the HUD from her last missile launch told the Twi’lek all she needed to know. By shifting power to the offensive retention system, she hoped that this missile—a concussion warhead—would not fall victim to the same all too common system which had defeated her proton missile. Her astromech was of the same mind, as it eagerly beeped in response to her command, confirming the successful transfer of the targeting data to the missile.

Everything the last missile had seen, it would see as well.

Astrid continued walking forward she sensed the group of jedi charging towards her the assassin's slipping past the charging jedi. As Astrid walked lightning would begin striking at the jedi who followed him as the two got closer. Astrid teleported into the middle of the group of jedi and summoned darkside tendrils and using the tendrils to strike at the rest of the jedi following padd.

Leaving only Astrid and padd on the battlefield. The witch pulled two lightsaber blades from the dead jedi and ignited the blades as she engaged padd in lightsaber combat.

Convergence: Obj. II - The High Tower

Ran approached the fortress from the north. With speed, she studied the situation before her. She felt the imbalance of it all. The way magiks had altered the fortress and the surrounding area was beyond her purview of knowledge. Ran focused on what she could make sense of: the terrain, the danger, the mission. She'd leave the magik to someone else.

The battle for the High Tower roared at its southern end. Wild and twisted beasts attacked both the Alliance and the Sith. Blaster bolts flared, lightsabers cracked, and haunting roars resounded in a cacophony of chaos that traveled across the valley. The northern end was much quieter and Ran continued her approach, focused on her goal.

The northern end's lack of a main entrance made entry difficult, but not impossible. Ran pulled a grappling hook from her utility belt, swung it in a circle several times so it had some momentum and then launched the hook into the ramparts. She pulled the grapnel back and felt it engage. Problem solved or so she thought.

As she began to scale the side of the fortress, a pack of beasts reminiscent of other four legged predators charged her from the ground. They jumped up, trying but failing to scale the side of the structure. With every attempt they nipped at Ran's heels. Ran kicked at them several times. Her booted heel found their snouts in those moments. Ran continued to climb. Once she passed their jumping range, they figured it out. A better method for the beasts to reach and rip apart their prey. One of the beasts grabbed the grappling hook's cable in its maw and began to shake it violently. Ran kept the tension so the grapnel could not disengage but shook almost as violently as the cable. A second beast grabbed the line, and then another. They pulled the cable in too many directions, Ran had no choice but to lose the tension. The grapnel hook disengaged and she was falling, from the looks of it right into the many mouths of the beasts.

With a slight correction through the force and her own grace Ran tucked in the air so her boots would meet the beast's mouth first. And they did. As one of the beasts launched itself at Ran, her boots found its elongated snout again. Using the beast's momentum and snout as a launch pad, and with some assistance from the force Ran sent herself leaping as high as she could up and over the ramparts. When she landed, she looked back over the edge. She saw the beasts. They were twisted and angry at losing their prey. They beasts settled for ripping each other apart instead. Ran felt a twinge of guilt, but the forces that affected these beasts were no fault of hers.

Ran had no time to dwell on the thought as her Jedi senses warned her of the danger all around, and at the blaster bolt flying toward her chest. She ignited her lightsaber and with a flourish, turned around and batted the bolt up and away. She scanned the ramparts searching for her attacker.

His orbs trailed after the High Priest's outstretched arm, guiding his attention to the massive structure. The commanding motion of it and the words that followed would leave no room for hesitation. Yet, his eyes couldn't help but wander back to the Acolyte by his side. He gave a modest nod towards him; Kasir was reassured knowing that the young Sith was now under the watchful eye of an experienced master. Throughout it all, could feel the vibrations below his boots from explosions amidst the brewing storm above them, which sent smoke and debris into the air. The thrill of the hunt to come ignited a fire within as everyone from the shuttles began to press forward.

Regaining his focus, he at last stepped forward, drawing upon his powers that would amplify his physical prowess and sharpen his senses. The Darkseeker enveloped himself in a veil that made him nearly invisible to the untrained eye, and then began slipping further along into the fray unnoticed. Troops lost in the moment moved past him unknowingly. His presence was felt more than seen. As he paused for a brief moment, he could sense fear in some, and determination in others. He was like a ghost among the living.

With a flick of his wrist, he summoned the shadows to cloak him further, moving from one hidden spot to another. Not far off, he could see a Jedi striking one of their droids with lightning, only to finish it off with what appeared to be a katana. With the bulk of the troops that separated them, she wasn’t an ideal target. His location would have been instantly given away. As he carefully continued to observe his surroundings, his gaze eventually locked onto the Citadel’s entrance that was drawing near. The glow of lightsabers pulled him closer to an inevitable confrontation that awaited him, as two Jedi were stationed as guards.

With every single step, his mind began to calculate every move, every strategy, until he was confident that he had the upper hand. Fingers brushed against his saberstaff as he felt the anger brewing within, yet still in complete control of every action. He slowly unclipped it from his belt; their lives were ripe for the taking. As he was nearly within striking distance, he saw both of them stop in their tracks, finally sensing the disturbance.

In a quick burst of movement, the Sith lunged forward from the darkness, both blades of his weapon igniting. Their lightsabers were lifted into the air, but it was already too late. Kasir pushed them back with each strike, until finally cutting through their defenses. They fell to the ground with a thud. With no time to waste, he lifted his offhand and waved it, summoning the Force to his aid. The large doors opened with a hiss, and he stepped forward. By the time they sealed shut, he had already disappeared back into the shadows.

Dead bodies ceased to shock the Jedi Master; he had unfortunately seen far too many in his day. But the unnecessary loss of Jedi and Alliance lives weighed heavy on him. This sustained war, centuries of fighting, light versus dark, good versus evil. For what? Could it end here today? Padd knew better. But perhaps a step toward peace, at least for these worlds and their neighbors.

The Sith stood before him, wielding the weapons of his fallen Knights. Padd felt the sinister energy resonating from her person as she engaged. He stepped back, withdrawing into a defensive posture, then brought his own lightsaber to bear. The blue blade snapped to life, humming as he twirled it into position.

Padd had spent his entire life fighting. He knew not to judge his opponents prematurely, not to allow his own skill and experience to turn to hubris. But that was no concern here. His opponent today displayed no weakness or fear. Only power. Padd readied himself for an attack, then propelled forward, bringing the blue blade down with a powerful, overhead strike.

The young man's words were spoken with warmth. Rosalia wasn't a fan of the tone, but she figured that her plan had a fairly good chance of succeeding. As she stood up from her crouched position, the acolyte got a better look at her opponent. He was much larger than she, and physically much stronger, too. Even with the enhanced strength of her kind, she didn't think she could overtake him.

She maintained the distance between them as well. Even as she stood looking frightened, what she felt on the inside was… dark.

Scratch his eyes out.

Rip his throat.

Eat his heart.

But the energy vampire would have to keep up her frail-looking front for now. If she was to strike, it would have to take him by surprise. She needed to wait until he was vulnerable.

"I'm from a mining village," she said. "Not far." Rosalia began to inch closer, as if looking to take shelter in his reassurance of safety. "I got separated from my family when we evacuated. I came here to hide…"

Her eyes lingered on his chest-plate for a moment. There were signs of damage. "Did… something happen to you?" She pointed at the deep scratch that ran across it. Perhaps he had encountered one of the many monsters that called the caves home. Rosalia was curious.

"Although it would be amusing if you were felled by two younglings. Are you sure you want to risk it?"

"Fell?"

Two seconds passed as he narrowed his eyes, seemingly in rage. He was not angry, but trying to follow the wording.

"Hah!"

The great laugh came from behind his mask. It did not rouse the suspicion of any monsters just yet.

"That would be a great mark for you, no? To fell the great Lord Jhyrack at such few years?"

They were young then. It was a lot easier to tell with his kind. They kept growing and growing with age.

"Come then, if you would not die! Show me!"

He slammed his fist into the wall. The rock cracked. His hand did not. He took a shard of rock the size of a human head out of the wall and casually threw it.

It span at Zaiya with the speed of a cannonball.
