Faction [NJO + Jedi] A New Journey

Iris_Sig.png

Iris practically hopped back to get away as Ara closed in, but she'd realized what the other Padawan was doing far too late. The kick hit her stomach, causing the hop to turn more to a stumble. She kept her footing, gritted her teeth. Pain surged in her gut. Nothing too much, but it was enough to make her wince as she took another breath. Not that she even had a chance to breath. She swung her blade down, both hands gripping it, to block the strike for her leg. No parry, straight up block. Defend.

She continued that way. Both hands on her blade as she opted just to defend. Regain her foot. Or try to. Another swing came for her legs.

This time Iris jumped. Flipped back, even. She swiped out with her blade, but that wasn't the main focus of her counter. One hand to swipe, the other to bring the Force out. Send a blast to throw Ara back while she landed on the ground again.

Ariana bowed her head in respect to Master Noble, and flashed a devilish smile at the comment of not going easy on the Jedi. With a firm nod she thanked Master Noble “-I shall do so, and thank you Master.”

The young Du Couteau quickly maneuvered back to the Sparring arena, she stopped briefly by her bag and searched through it to grab another bandage roll. Okay, it’s definitely not here. Ariana doubted her Force ability for a moment, but as it stood she truly forgot her saber back on the ship.

With her Force powers, Ariana removed the worn bandage on her left arm and quickly applied the fresh bandage to cover her forearm and hand. New match, new bandage and with a quick check of her fist and fingers, Ariana nodded approvingly. She placed herself in front of the Jedi who challenged her and with a quick rolling of her left shoulder and stretch she readied herself.

“Master Noble has agreed,” Ariana smiled cheerfully, her concentration and focus slowly growing with each second. Tiny embers of white gently blossomed across her left forearm and fist, as well as below her knees on both legs.

“Also Master Jedi, you never offered your name.” Ariana mentioned, her curiosity finally outpaced her patience to know.

“Or find a way to get him to tell you,” that was all Judah would say about the matter. Not that he knew for certain that Justice liked the young brunette. He simply knew his nephew.

He nodded as their eyes followed over to the bouts which were taking place. It seemed Hollis was not yet skilled with a lightsaber. That made sense since she was new to the Order, but it was also an important skill to master quickly. Fortunately for her the first form was easy to learn.

“Would you like to learn?”

He motioned to an open mat. Judah was not certain whether he would take Hollis as a student, or if he was ready to teach again. His last padawan had been his way of keeping a promise to Magena Dray. Kestrel was now a knight and no longer needed his supervision. That did not mean he did not keep up with what she was doing, or with his own son.

He smiled.

“There are few better to teach you, even if it is a small lesson.”

Jem's quick reaction spoke of reflexes shaped by more than just Force-born instincts. The shift in her focus was palpable. It was like a switch had been flicked- one moment, the older girl was just standing there passively, and in the next, she was active, moving with an almost mechanical precision.

Their sabers clashed with a buzzing hiss that Sola felt thrum through all the hearts in her hand, and Jem's strength won out. Sola didn't fight the rotation, but as she went to disengage and change angles, she felt a wave of force shove into her torso, turning what would have been a simple step into a shuffling backward stumble that looked far more graceful than it had any right to.

Sola's stern expression cracked and the tiniest of smiles peeked our from the corner of her mouth. "Hn, so you're paying attention now... do you have a name, miss 'tall, dark, and broody'?"

She engaged again, light on her toes like a dancer, saber hand flashing as she loosed a flurry of quick, probing attacks.

The girl played with her like a cat, batting at her left and right. Jem matched the jabs with fluid blocks of her own, her body wasting no energy with its exacting motions. There was no flair to Jems form, not like there once had been.

This girl on the other hand moved with the playfulness of the pitten~ bounding with wasted energy thwt demanded complete attention. Jem could read it like a book. She didn’t strike back, but she did slash at the feet to break the footwork dancing around her. Enough, it seemed to say, like a hand slapping down.

“Will you ask Sith that, when they corner you on the street and try to kill you?”

"Master Noble has agreed", Ariana Du Couteau Ariana Du Couteau informed him upon her return.

"Excellent", Caedyn replied enthusiastically, propping himself up and getting back to his feet, brushing down the back of his tunic. When she asked his name, however, Caedyn paused and gave a small laugh; "My apologies, you're absolutely right", he admitted jovially as he stepped away to put some small distance between the two of them.

It wasn't until he turned around and bowed to Padawan Du Couteau that Caedyn introduced himself formally, "My name's Caedyn Arenais. It's a pleasure to meet you". Wearing a friendly smile, he looked forward to sharing in the coming sparring match. "-And don't worry, I won't treat this as a competitive match. I'm mostly curious to see what more you've learned in your time here" he sought to assure her that he wasn't going to give his all in their match together.

Taking the time, Caedyn rolled his shoulders before stretching the muscles of his arms and legs, not wanting to risk any real damage to himself. A precaution always best practised before any decent exercise. Finally, when he felt satisfied, Caedyn looked to Ariana with a confirming nod, taking up a readied stance, his right foot back to carry the majority of his weight, left forward. At the same time, his hands were raised, hands loose and open, intent on catching and parrying any coming blows rather than delivering them.

"Any stipulations before we begin? Or perhaps anything I should know about your fighting style?" He inquired, wanting to ensure that she were to feel comfortable sparring against him the first time around.

"We could always use more of those. Especially with kids like these, right?"

"I guess they learned from their masters." Kirie remarked with a chuckle. “I imagine they all keep you pretty busy… And worried, I guess. I remember I tried to be a healer, but I didn't have the skills for it."

Subtly, Kirie let go of the remaining tension in her shoulders, letting out a deep and slow breath as she listened to the two Jedi. She had been so worried that this would be harder, that the path ahead would be blocked or made more difficult by obstruction from others. Now her heart was awash with relief.

"But there's a lot of choices to pick from, and plenty of time to figure it out. In any case I'd be happy to lend a hand, if you ever need it. Healer or otherwise."

"I'm so glad to know that already I have you two to come to when I need help and guidance. I can't afford to feel lost with Hana, she's too important."

She glanced back down at Hana, who was beginning to look a little bored of standing around while the adults chatted. Kirie readied herself for a chase in case the girl decided that some other kid adventure was more her speed.

But regardless of what her path will be, she'll always find support here — this will be her home as much as it has been one to generations of Jedi already."

“Thank you Master Noble, it means a lot. Truly. Oh- and before I forget, the refectory food hasn’t got any better since I was last here has it? I was going to get Hana something to eat before we go for the tour.”

Kirie replied to Valery as she gave Ariana Du Couteau Ariana Du Couteau permission to spar with Caedyn. Hana looked at the Padawan with reverence, momentarily shocked out of her boredom. Hana gave the young woman a little wave before hiding behind Kirie’s legs in apparent shyness.

It seemed that several of the Padawans had the same idea, as two others soon joined the small group beside the training mats, seeking their own approvals from Valery. Kirie smiled politely at Jasper Kai'el Jasper Kai'el stumbling through his words, all too aware of her own history of social faux pas, before greeting Silas Westgard Silas Westgard with a respectful nod.

“It is a pleasure to meet you as well.” Kirie responded, signing as she spoke. “I am Kirie, and this is Hana. And your name?”

They traded blows for a while, Sōla prancing and prodding, constantly moving. Jem Fossk Jem Fossk was the picture of efficiency, her defense always exactly where it needed to be, not a motion wasted. Sōla found herself mimicking the older Padawan as she probed Jem’s defenses, her movements tighter and less flighty.

Jem attacked suddenly, swiping at Sōla’s feet. The young Padawan reacted instinctively, leaping over the coruscating blade- rhythm broken, she reset her guard, the tip of her saber angled towards Jem.

“Will you ask Sith that, when they corner you on the street and try to kill you?”

She tilted her head in confusion. The frown was back. By the Force, she’s dramatic. A little sigh slipped past her lips. “I’m not fighting a Sith in the street though, am I? I’m sparring with a fellow Padawan beneath the watchful eyes of over half a dozen Jedi Masters. I’m not gonna pretend like this is a life or death battle.”

She darted in close again, saber raised in guard, and tried a more direct line of attack, elbows tight as she began to target her foe's torso with tight, overhand strikes.

“Are you saying I should?”

“It is a pleasure to meet you as well.” Kirie responded, signing as she spoke. “I am Kirie, and this is Hana. And your name?”

Jasper immediately took note of the hands signs. His best friend was mute, after all. He knew how to sign pretty well.

“Jasper,” he responded, signing as well so Hana could understand. “Sorry, I probably should’ve lead with that. I’m not very good at introductions.”

Jasper crouched down to Hana’s level, a warm grin spreading across his face. He was much more confident signing than speaking. The less words he had to say, the less awkward.

Hey, He addressed her, only with hand signs. It’s nice to meet you. Have you been watching the matches? Pretty exciting stuff, huh?

There was a certain captivating quality to lightsaber duels that had a tendency to garner the attention and imagination of kids, a young Jasper being one of them. Of course, a laser sword was the coolest thing ever. At least to the duelist it was.

Frak, I'm late to the party! Figures?! Addy grumbled to herself as she walked through the main door and into the training hall. Multiple sparring matches were already ongoing, though it looked like some had also ended or maybe not even started as of yet. It was hard to tell really.

Way to make a good first impression, squirt, she could just imagine hearing her older brother by a mere four minutes or so tease mercilessly. Well, that was if Aiden, her twin, had accompanied Addison directly from the Kattada Jedi Temple where the two Jedi legacies had been previously training instead of going to Naboo where their parents, Kahne Porte Kahne Porte and Alexandra Porte Alexandra Porte , called home now.

The dark-haired padawan was wearing a sleeveless jumpsuit in an olive green color with the pant legs tucked into a pair of comfy yet sturdy knee-high leather boots. A straight-hilted lightsaber was attached to a utility belt slung low around her shapely hips. An elastic tie encircled her wrist in case she wanted to pull back the chestnut hair that fell down just past her shoulders. All standard gear for the most part.

Most of the time the Taanabian wore it loose like her mother's. The two Porte women resembled each other a lot in more ways than not, but there were definitely some traits of her father's that kept Addison balanced... especially his hopefulness.

A sip of water was taken from the bottle in hand, then Addison's hazel brown orbs peered around once more before sitting down on a mate to stretch near one of the sparring rings. If nothing else, she could get in a practice kata or two.

Seeing Iris stumble back tugged at Ara's instincts to let up, but Iris didn't seem too phased by it all. She was still in the fight, something Ara was quite happy about. Ara kept up her ruthless assault, continuing to hammer at the girl's faltering defences until Iris sent a Force blast towards her. A hand came up to try and make a barrier, but she was far too slow. The Zabrak crashed down and skidded along the floor until she finally came to a halt a distance away.

Blinking slowly, she pushed herself off the ground and marched back to Iris with a grin. "Nice moves, paint job." She quipped as she focused on channelling the Force. She had been training hard, meditating and practicing, several times a day to try and figure it all out. She was getting better at it, but using the Force in a fight was something she had never tried before. Even something as simple as using it to bolster her movements. But in this instance, she felt good.

And it reflected in her movements as she zoomed towards Iris at a blistering speed, all to try and bash her blade aside so she could step in and slam a shoulder into the girl. Once more, Ara pushed the offensive with precise strikes and stabs complimented by attacks that represented her wielding a wrench more than a sword. But one fatal flaw was making itself evident: Her defence was slipping the more she pushed the attack. Though the shadow of a grin on her face indicated that it was the least of her concerns. The longer the fight went on, the more she was enjoying it. Not the fight itself, but the little rivalry she saw between her and Iris.

“Master Jedi Caedyn Arenais,” Ariana spoke, testing the name out with her own voice, “-Stipulations?”

She took a moment to ponder the question, it probably wasn’t a strange thing to ask. Especially with the large amount of experience the two of them held in difference to one another. As she noted Caedyn preparing himself for the sparring match, Ariana for her own thought of an answer. One that came with an impish grin, a fond memory from years ago on Teta with her father.

“The only stipulation that my father ever told me; whenever we trained and I wanted to get better,” Ariana explained quickly, “-Don’t get hit.”

Ariana gave a single nod before her smile completely disappeared, in exchange for a thin straight line of determination. Her eyes narrowed and focused, the concentration of the Force flared on all three ends of her limbs. The white flames became as white cherry blossoms in full bloom for a moment and Ariana attacked.

She couldn’t compete with her single fist against someone else with two, at least for the moment. Ariana lashed out with right foot, two quick short side kicks aimed directly for Caedyn’s own lower right side and leg. Her own left leg tensed, her muscles ready to spring backwards for the counter-attack should it arrive. Her own fist would wait to attack, patience in a match was key to find the perfect target.

Between Worlds - Tenno

LOCATION: Jedi Temple, Coruscant
AREA: Training Hall

This was so unlike her.

Late just wasn't a thing that Ichika Masudo did. No, she was punctual... prompt... reliable, but she'd tailed Addison Porte Addison Porte into the training hall only a handful of metres behind, so at least she wasn't alone in this... this... avoidable situation. One deep breath, held a few moments, and loosed while standing in the entryway was all it took to start bringing her down from the surge of panic she felt at waking up from an impromptu nap well past the starting time, having fallen asleep with her current readings on a datapad settled against her face. She'd hardly slept from the excitement in the days leading up to coming here, and had been trying to catch up on that lost slumber since she arrived. So much for discipline.

She started to look around at all the other learners and senior Jedi that were here, and none of them really looked familiar. It had been a long while since her father had last taken her with him on a routine visit to the temple on Jedi business. In fact, the last time had been quite a while before it was destroyed, and she wasn't sure she remembered the names or faces of anyone to whom she might have been introduced already. It took meeting them more than once, usually.

Absently, she'd been gnawing at her bottom lip, and drumming her fingers on the tsuka of the katana at her side, her palm resting on the kashira while her gaze drifted across the training hall, until her eyes landed on Addison again... who was just as solitary as she was at that moment. Blowing out a sigh, a strand of hair that had fallen in her face in the rush vacated her line of sight, and she made her mind up, going to the older girl.

Her life had been filled with the closeness of family, and now, it was time for her to find her own way, forge her own path, "Hello," she said in a light voice when she came to stand in front of Addison, punctuating the greeting with a bow that was more Atrisian than Jedi; being this close, she was getting a clearer pickup on what Addison might have been feeling in that moment, and this prompted a soft smile at the common thread of their tardiness, "would you mind if I joined you?"

Inside she felt just a bit awkward, and thought about how Ardin, her half-brother, might handle being in a 'new' place. What he might think of so many Jedi in one place. He could match her with the blade, but he couldn't go where she was going, and those kinds of thoughts only made her ache at the absence.

Ariana Du Couteau Ariana Du Couteau 's visual aura caused Caedyn to pause momentarily, studying her with his eyes and ethereal connection as it flowed around them. He had already seen embers that suggested she was preparing herself, but now this was stronger, and the expectation she'd go onto the offensive was quickly confirmed.

Two quick strikes with her right leg intended for his left side. Caedyn pivoted on his left heel, right knee raising and blocking the two strikes with the shin of his leg; Like the elbows and the knees, the shinbone was the strongest. and he had learned to block lighter attacks while being able to retain his proximity with his opponent. Even so, there was more than the simple physical force behind Ariana's presence and strikes, and Caedyn was pleasantly surprised to take a much harder hit than he had anticipated.

"Good!" he encouraged her, a smirk on his face as his right foot dropped back to the floor, weight shifting forward with his right arm moving around the front of him, using his momentum to throw himself into a counter-clockwise spin. His pace wasn't aggressive, testing Ariana's skill level. His left foot left the floor and swept through the air in a 360 crescent aimed to cross the height of Ariana's midsection.

Were it not for her readiness to retreat, his heel would have met with the Padawan's left side.

Iris_Sig.png

Iris took the chance to breath as Ara was thrown back. It gave her a chance to at least breath. .. Not for long. She flashed a smile at the compliment, but before she knew it Ara had already moved. Faster. Stronger. The Keshian flooded with panic as she brought her blade around. Gone were the usual parries and ripostes. Just desperate, fully focused defense. The colors kept her in the moment, kept her blade moving where it needed to go.

The more Iris defended, though, the more she realized what the colors were doing. They pulled back. Like a wave pulling the water from the beach before crashing down, the colors did the same under Ara's blade. She grinned. Wider than the grin she had even in her panic. Another of the waves came in, and this time her blade flashed up. Angled the strike away in a swift parry.

Then the Padawan went low. Swinging a leg to hook her foot on Ara's and drag the Zabrak to the ground.

"I guess they learned from their masters." Kirie remarked with a chuckle. "I imagine they all keep you pretty busy… And worried, I guess. I remember I tried to be a healer, but I didn't have the skills for it."

Amani chuckled in return, and motioned as if brushing her hands clean, “I claim no responsibility. I don’t have a padawan of my own. Val on the other hand…” She nudged the master with her shoulder. That said, Val’s paddies were some of the few that seemed entirely unscathed. “Yeah… they’re certainly go-getters. Some of ‘em just need to learn when to stop going and getting.” Real diamond in the rough types. And in spite of her light jabbing, Amani had plenty of confidence in the knights and masters leading them, especially the one standing next to her.

“I’m happy to help. Just say the word.” She watched amusedly as Hana became fascinated with the dueling students, only to shy away as a few of them approached: Silas, notably, came to exchange a few greetings. Amani smiled, and offered a slight bow of her own, “Great to see you too, Silas. I have been, thanks. I saw your duel. Most of it anyway…” She caught a glimpse of Corin and Kai, now being marched off by Master Tafo. She flicked her gaze back, and nodded in approval to both him and Jasper, who had just approached as well, “Nicely done, both of you. Seems like training is paying off.” The latter’s awkwardness reminded her of a bookish young mirialan padawan from some years ago. Not that even she had completely outgrown it at times.

“How have you two been?”

"I guess they learned from their masters." Kirie remarked with a chuckle. "I imagine they all keep you pretty busy… And worried, I guess. I remember I tried to be a healer, but I didn't have the skills for it."

If only she knew.

Valery blinked and wasn't going to say anything about that in particular, until Amani bumped into her, "I know, I know," she chuckled and looked at her two Padawans in the room, "I'm just glad they've done alright today. They didn't break anything or got others hurt."

Yet.

Her eyes then shifted to Kirie and Hana, "Of course, we're all happy to help. As for the food, it's not always great but right now we have something more special being prepared. Stick around just a little longer, and there will be pizza," she said and she made sure to sign it for Hana too. Every kid loved pizza, right?

Then Silas Westgard Silas Westgard and Jasper Kai'el Jasper Kai'el approached as well, and she'd greet them both with a smile, "I'm doing well, Silas, and I agree with Amani. Your spar looked really good," she dipped her head to both Padawans. But Jasper in particular spoke up to thank her as well, and while he seemed nervous about it, Valery did her best to smile encouragingly, "It was my pleasure, and I'm glad you've enjoyed your time here."

"I'm sure there will be a chance to host more training events like this in the future."

Iris abandoned her elegant and beautiful motions completely to simply defend herself from Ara's onslaught. For the self-conscious Zabrak, it was a huge boost to her confidence to see Iris, the perfect padawan in her eyes, struggling against her comparatively simple movements. Perhaps all of her master's lessons, and those videos in the archives of the ancient Kit Fisto, were worth it. That confidence shone brightly as the Zabrak continued to press with a mix of practiced strikes and equally practiced bashes that betrayed the girl's origins.

Even then, Iris proved her capability as a Jedi as she found an opening and ducked low to sweep the girl's legs out from under her. There was nothing to be done, except bring her blade up to defend as she crashed back onto the floor. In a split-second decision, Ara released a powerful Force Push from her right hand as she scooted back and rolled onto her feet again, blade pointed toward Iris as she breathed heavily through her grin. "Come on, can't copy my style over here!" She joked as she took the moment of respite to catch her breath.

An idea popped into her head again as she closed the distance between them, following the same pattern of strikes and bashes as before. But when she felt the moment was right, she swung low to draw the girl's blade down before extinguishing her own blade. As soon as it was off, it turned back on again to bypass the girl's defences and swing up towards her neck inside of Iris' defence. If the attack got through, she would halt just before making contact with her friend, knowing full well that she exposed herself entirely in that split-second move. And Iris was very sharp in catching those small moments of faltered defences.

"... Call it a draw or keep going?" She asked, staring directly into Iris' technicolour gaze as she waited to see what the girl would do.

Iris grinned, but she didn't respond. Couldn't, between the gulps of air. She was already at her limit. But Ara wasn't done yet. The Padwan lifted her blade, both hands gripping the smooth hilt as she watched. Waited. Again the waves of colors erupted around her. Iris dove deeper into it, deeper into the Force. Not like before, not letting it control her like she had before. Hybridizing the two forms she did know.

Her blade flicked up. Parry, thrust, parry, riposte. Again and again, faster and faster. Then, she blinked.

Her parry struck out, only to find air. And with nothing to stop her, the blade just went off. Too focused on letting the waves guide her she'd completely missed an important part of the lightsaber. It could be turned off.

Iris tried to recover. Flick her blade around to try and catch Ara in that split second. But it was to no avail. The blade of the Zabrak hovered close. A draw? The Keshian laughed.

"No, I think that's solidly your win, Ara."
