“Deal,” Ariana agreed. “And no doubt we’ll need a stronger arena.” She added with a small smirk.

Ariana peered at the other Padawans, Kai and another unnamed one, Iris’ words certainly weighed heavy with truth if that was the result of their sparring match. “Transparency is often the quickest balm for such wounds.” She mused at the situation.

She wearily sat back down on the mat, her legs crossed in front of her as her left hand massaged her right leg. If she intended to spar another Padawan, Ariana wanted to make sure she wouldn’t cramp during a kick or block. Another voice broke through her concentration, someone from the group of other Knights and Masters watching the Padawans. Iris already said that the man could sit with them, and Ariana nodded in agreement.

“Thank you for your kind words.” Ariana responded, her head bowing once.

Before she could continue her introductions another approached them and offered his own encouragement as well as a cash prize. Ariana looked over towards Iris, with a confused look she turned her attention back to the new person with the offering.

“-Um, you can put mine in some Padawan Relief Fund.” Ariana said, her smile shrank with uncertainty. Honestly she had very little need for credits presently, if anything according to her brother, she had plenty to spare.

But when the subject of finding a Master, well Ariana hadn’t at all put much thought into it, she had assumed this was mostly a social gathering for new Padawans. Ariana looked back to Iris and asked. “Do you have a Master?”

“As for myself, I wasn’t really looking, truth be told.” Ariana answered, “My name is Ariana, and are either of you two looking for an Apprentice?” She asked the two Jedi that had approached them.

Caedyn Arenais

Guest
C
Caedyn Arenais was grateful for the invitation to join Iris Arani Iris Arani and Ariana Du Couteau Ariana Du Couteau , moving to find himself on the sparring mat a small distance alongside the pair. The Jedi Knight was about to ask a question as to their training and experience, their learning of sparring techniques and seeking to get to know the two a little better when he was beaten to the punch by the arrival of Starlin Rand Starlin Rand , who brought along 'winnings' of some sort. Glancing up at Starlin, the look of disbelief would be evident as he was shocked that the Jedi would encourage such a habit, especially with the Padawan present. He truly hoped that he was mistaken in his understanding, but he bit the inside of his cheek and chose to remain silent in his disapproval; He was still one of the newer entrants into the New Jedi Order, conscious of this and remaining silent not out of complacency but disconcerted surprise, he looked to the two girls and studied their responses closely.

Padawan were young, they were students, and in the face of such an example from another Knight, Caedyn could understand that there might be some sense of peer pressure. Still, thankfully at their position in the Order, these things could be discouraged with time and the right temperament. It wasn't until Starlin Rand asked about whether the two were looking for a Master, that Caedyn felt he needed to speak up, especially with the apprehension that could be felt in the air. "It seems we both are, yes", Caedyn replied to Ariana, turning to glance back up to Starlin briefly as to acknowledge his desire, seeking a student also; "Though it's a big commitment for both the Master and the Apprentice, and so that's what brought me here today. This gathering had a bit of a hidden agenda you see. There are a few hopeful mentors in the room and several excellent candidates for apprenticeship too" he smiled at Ariana and Iris Amani, giving them an encouraging nod. "Though truth be told, I was looking to be a little more subtle about it", he added with a faint chuckle passed under his breath, glancing sideways near where the other Jedi Knight stood.

It was safe to say that he felt a little put out by the 'competition'. Caedyn was one to take his time and choose the right moment to enter into such conversations. He thought he'd found it, but now there felt a sense of pressure and getting to know a student didn't just happen in an hour, and this wasn't a decision meant to be made carelessly. His failure to connect with the prospective apprentice, or their choosing to steer away from his prospective mentorship, could set them both back in the long term. Caedyn had experienced this in the past, and the next student he chose to take on, he intended to see through to the end of their Padawan years.

Looking to Ariana, Caedyn's interest in her hand-to-hand style of combat remained on his mind; "Where did you learn to spar like that, if I can ask?" he gestured with his left hand to her. He wanted to ask about her loss of the arm, though once again, a time and a place for such things and first meetings just weren't appropriate.

He shut his mouth, for once.

Corin harboured no ill-will as the Padawan rose to his own two feet, across from Bamarri. In the event of another outcome, there could have been far too much bitter resentment. Even for the two of them. But instead a decidedly neutral and passive set of blue eyes settled over Kai's own. His arm outstretched in turn and offered a shake of his own as their hands clasped together.

"Sorry," he said with a touch of sympathy, "I thought less of it than I should have."

His taunts, all those meaningless words; force the imbalance inside a foe, that was the lesson - confuse them, draw the focus, take it from them, leave them too frustrated to function as one should in the face of an enemy. A tactic for out there, not in here. Friends, they could of if not should have been. But the option to be calm and collected was not one Corin often found. No one apology, no matter how seemingly sincere, was to make up for his antagonistic ways.

If he even believed in it to begin with.

Yet his eyes hardly settled over Kai for long. His own attention turned to Dagon, desperately yearning for the same approval from his master as Kai.

Silas pushed into Jasper, the strikes of his lightsaber getting faster after each blow. At the same time, he struggled to regain his footing giving Silas a chance to use that to his advantage. Although, just when he thought he had the upper hand the boy seemed to compose himself and change into a Shii-Cho stance. Silas wasn't able to see it in time as he swung another strike right at him, which was returned with brute force that slammed into his lightsaber.

A sharp pain through his right hand when the blade hit, forcefully sending his lightsaber across the mats with his opponents in tow. Silas stumbled back a few steps and looked back to Jasper with a small grin, but at the same time there was a hint of pain etched in from how much his hand was hurting "You alright?" Silas asked first to see if his honorable opponent was alright before slowly beginning to walk back to him "Yea, we can call it a draw. My hand got a bit of the crossfire from that last strike" he said with a slight smile "At least we have both have some pizza huh?"

Behind him, Starlin Rand Starlin Rand called out to them in response to the result. Both padawans had earned themselves some money from the draw which only proved to be a bonus to the great duel they just had "Would you look at that? we better go get our earnings. After all, you deserve it from being a great sparring partner" Silas said with gratitude, gently patting him on the shoulder as a way of saying thanks. Turning back to the knight he went over and took his share, placing it in his pocket for future investment.

Silas stood next to the main group of masters and took a breather to regain some of his energy. He wasn't finished just yet, after a few minutes or so he was going to finish off with a few exercise sets. It wasn't to show off to the other masters at all but to make the most out of each day and push himself to be the best he can be. Slowly, his gaze would catch sight of Valery Noble Valery Noble who was chatting amongst the others. She was one of the Jedi helping him do just that, even with the things he had to sacrifice he appreciated her help more than anything. Raising his hand, he waved over to Master Noble to say hello. She seemed to be busy right now, so it was only right to give her some space.

Seeing if the boy was still close to him, he realised that he never asked for the boy's name. After such a duel, it was best to do such a thing "By the way, I never caught your name. Silas, Silas Westgard" the boy said with an extended hand in the hopes he'd shake it "Do you have a Master by any chance? if so, he has certainly taught you well"

.. Huh?

Iris blinked, glancing at the next to come over. Credits? She tilted her head, glancing to them, then back to the guy. She won credits? There were credits on the line? A brief frown took over. If there were credits on the line she wouldn't of just given up! Art supplies cost a lot more money than she initially figured! Especially when she wanted to make the invisible tags around the ci-

Oh, she probably shouldn't let that slip. She took a breath, refocused her mind before she said something that might get her in trouble here. Then shook her head. "It was a friendly spar. Money shouldn't be put on that."

Later. She'd get money later.

"Mhmm! Master Noble, actually." Her gaze shifted, scanning through the other masters for her own. What did Valery Noble Valery Noble think of her spar? Was she proud? Disappointed Iris gave up? Suddenly now she wanted her master's approval. But she was distracted. That's what it meant to have someone like Valery as a master. She was important to a lot of people. Her gaze shifted away, her smile brightening as she nodded to Ariana.

"Having a master is very important, I think. They don't just help you learn some tricks in the Force or how to use a lightsaber. They help you grow into a person. Kinda like having parents, I guess?" She laughed nervously, scratching at her cheek. "Not that I can really say I know what that's like. But if I had to imagine it, Valery would certainly be my mom."

"I agree, I think it would be best, too. She can always change her path in the future, but for now, she can learn how to control her abilities here. It's good for her own safety and for those around her."

“I agree. She will always have the freedom to choose, and the chance to explore her potential. I would like to think that even if she walks another path, I-we, will always be here if she needs it.”

Kirie sighed, her thoughts obviously pulled away to some other time and place. She shook her head and went on.

“I hope we can give her a place to call home. Then at least something good will have come from all this.”

Would you like her to be your teacher and stay with you?

Valery then addressed Hana directly. Kirie had left the idea of staying in the temple open to the girl, even though she recognised there were few other options. The choice had to be her own, for the girl’s benefit and for her own peace of mind.

‘Yes, that would be alright.’

“I’ll take it.” Kirie said, obvious relief showing on her face.

Another figure joined them, a Jedi that Kirie knew but had never met. Amani, chief among the New Jedi’s slim roster of Healers. Kirie gave the woman a smile and a nod of acknowledgement, stepping aside so that she could join the little group and introduce herself to Hana.

“Hi Amani, nice to properly meet you.”

"And who's this one?

"Is she fluent?"

‘I'm Hana!’ The girl signed, slightly testily. Maybe it was pushing it to have her keep introducing herself.

Kirie laughed.

“She's getting there. Doesn't lip read yet, but that can take some time. I'm thinking after this visit we're gonna do some shopping and get her a protocol droid to make things a bit easier.” Kirie signed as she spoke, her hands moving smoothly alongside her words.

Hana seemed to be caught between their conversation and watching the sparring matches. Her eyes kept flicking between the two, torn between wanting to know why these people kept talking about her and wanting to observe the daring exploits of the Padawans. After a time, she seemed to settle on mostly watching the matches, occasionally turning back to show she was still paying some attention.

"Will it be your first time training a Padawan? These days, a lot of Padawans are older when they begin their training, but taking care of a young kid while also training them is quite a responsibility. I have no doubt that you can handle it, but... don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it, alright?"

“She will be my first, yeah. I’m not much of a Force User, or a duelist. I’m not a scholar on the Force, and I don’t count myself as particularly wise, and yet, I feel as though I need to do this. I’m sure I will need help, and I’m glad I can come to you when I do.” Kirie nodded to Valery graciously, before shooting an enthused look to Amari. “Who knows? Maybe she’ll end up a Healer.”

‘Yes, that would be alright.’

“I’ll take it.” Kirie said, obvious relief showing on her face.

Valery chuckled and dipped her head, "You two will make a fine pairing," she said before she noticed Amani approaching. It was hardly surprising that her friend showed interest in the little girl as well — she had that same caring nature, and Valery always welcomed her company.

But as some more introductions followed, Valery's gaze briefly drifted off to Iris Arani Iris Arani , who had finished up her spar and was looking her way. She offered a nod along with a warm smile, hoping to show that she was happy with how Iris had handled herself in the training session. That same smile quickly carried over to Silas Westgard Silas Westgard as well, who she caught waving from the corners of her eyes. All-in-all, her Padawans had shown not only how far they've come in their training with the blade, but also how well they could control themselves. She was definitely proud of that.

Turning back, Valery quietly watched Hana for a moment, who had decided that the spars were the most exciting. It reminded her of her daughter — she always loved to watch her parents train, and even the holo-tv wouldn't be able to distract her during those sparring sessions.

"I understand the feeling," Valery said as she focused on Kirie again, nodding along at the sign of gratitude. "If she ends up becoming a healer, I'm sure Amani would be able to teach her a lot. But regardless of what her path will be, she'll always find support here — this will be her home as much as it has been one to generations of Jedi already."

"You alright?"

“Y-Yeah,” Jasper nodded, cracking an awkward smile. “A sprained wrist won’t kill me.”

Silas seemed content to call it a draw, which was probably for the best. There was no way that Jasper would go fisticuffs, not after the display made by Kai Bamarri Kai Bamarri and Corin Trenor Corin Trenor . Afterwards, Starlin Rand Starlin Rand , one of the present knights, called out and mentioned earnings, something he and Silas would apparently be splitting.

“I’m good,” Jasper shrugged. “I didn’t really come here to win anything. You can take my half if you want.”

Silas introduced himself, making Jasper remember that he hadn’t given his sparring partner his name yet, which was followed immediately by the question of the status of his master.

“I’m Jasper Kai’el,” the Padawan introduced, shaking Silas’s hand. “My friend over there is Pyf, the lightbulb.”

“Hello!” Pyf greeted, before coming to the realization of what Jasper had said. “Wait, lightbulb?”

Jasper laughed briefly before continuing. “Probably should’ve told you that earlier… I, uh, do have a master, but she didn’t find me till Empress Teta. I’m sorta self-taught.”

It was still surreal that Mi'la Undari Mi'la Undari had even taken him under her wing. He had always struggled to get the attention of masters, be it because of his mediocre connection to the Force or being mistaken as aggressive for focusing on dueling. Maybe, had he still been teacher-less, Jasper may have still been paranoid about if the masters present even watched his duel, especially given the unique nature of the other sparring sessions in the room. That didn’t matter, not anymore. All that mattered to Jasper now was preparing for the next step into knighthood.

“You’re pretty good yourself,” Jasper complimented. “Dueling is the only thing I’m really good at, so it was nice to have an opponent that could keep up with me.” Jasper frowned suddenly. Fatigue was starting to kick in. It was at this moment that the duelist remembered he hadn’t eaten anything that day. “Jeez, I’m starving. Where do we go to get this pizza?”

Judah laughed, unintentionally. How many times had he heard the same answer from those new to the Jedi, and how many times had that answer changed after just one year of being a Jedi. An apologetic look washed over his face as he caught himself, hopefully before any damage was done.

“You want to help people, but you will never be able to help them all.”

The statement was as sure as Judah knew anything to be. He pointed to all the other padawans including his own nephew.

“All of them came here because they wanted to make a difference.” Judah then pointed to every master in the room. “As did they.”

He folded his hands and let them fall back to his lap as he continued to lean against the wall.

“What I can tell you is that the one thing you will learn is that only you can decide where you will make a difference. It cannot be everywhere, and it will not be with everyone. If you want to succeed you will have to choose where to focus. That is what this journey as a Padawan is for.”

It was likely not what the young woman wanted to hear, but it was the truth. Some might call it a cynical reaction from a disgruntled master, but Judah knew better. He was tired of playing whatever games the Jedi played, he would always only be himself.

“What do you like about him,”
Judah asked indicating his nephew. “You smiled differently when he walked in the room."

"Is it?" She challenged the rocky introduction with a heavy breath. The last things she felt like doing now was teaching, but she tried to center herself and focus back on the girl in front of her.

"To be clear-- I thought you could help Kai." He could use a bit of kindness, was what she didn't say.

It could be pleasant, Sola thought, if you'd get over yourself. She could almost see the angst wafting around Jem like an aura of smoke. It was like an infection, and almost all the older Padawans were afflicted, drunk off their own doubts. Was it a defect of aging? Her hearts lurched, all one thousand of them. Hopefully she wouldn't become like them when she got older.

I’ll have to meditate on it when I get a chance.

She raised her saber but let her attention drift, back to the tension that keep grabbing at her mind like a persistent wind. Sola would be forced to open the first move. Jem wasn't taking her seriously.

The girl was still ignoring her- she hadn’t even introduced herself! Sōla could only imagine the tongue-lashing her old crèche master would’ve given Jem Fossk Jem Fossk for her lack of decorum. As such, the responsibility fell to Sōla herself. Fighting was a language all its own, she'd heard said. A language woven into a dance. How then, to communicate her disapproval?

Sōla wasn't particularly strong. Even with her Atoan physiology, she was just too small. But she was quick- quick as a loth-cat, and twice as devious.

She saluted again, then darted in close, arcing her saber in a wide, sweeping blow to knock Jem's saber aside and open up her guard for a swift sun djem on her weapon hand.

"Likewise," Amani offered Kirie a smile and nod of her own. Hana's mild annoyance got a chuckle from the mirialan as well, "Sorry. I know there's a lot of people to introduce yourself to. My name is Amani." She squatted down and continued to translate the words through her hands.

The mention of a possible protocol droid seemed to earn her approval, having seen the uses one could make out of their assistance, "Totally. It's a good investment, especially for the early-on."

Amani would be lying if the potential of yet another healer on the roster wasn't a welcome thought, and she gave a knowing hum, "We could always use more of those. Especially with kids like these, right?" She rolled her eyes jokingly from Hana to the various injury-prone padawans: Corin and Kai having finally broken up their fight, Jasper ending his session with a sprained wrist, and perhaps implicating (unintentionally, on Amani's part) the one-armed Ariana as well.

"But there's a lot of choices to pick from, and plenty of time to figure it out. In any case I'd be happy to lend a hand, if you ever need it. Healer or otherwise." She grinned warmly between Kirie, Hana, and Valery, all too happy to extend the offer.

A firm hand clamped down on both Corin and Kai's shoulder, revealing the almost ominously looming figure of Aaran looking at both of them. The heavy weight of his eyeless gaze boring down on them. He was smiling, but it did not reach the rest of his face, the aura radiating from him was one of pure parental disappointment.

Even if neither of them had traditional parental figures in their lives, both Corin and Kai would feel it, that childish need to both rebel against authority and also seek to appease it was ingrained in the minds of many teenagers.

"Well. Good thing you two are getting along now." He said, giving each of them a firm clap on the shoulder before turning his gaze to Dagon. "Knight Kaze, do you mind if I borrow your Padawan for a bit?" He asked, before his head turned sharply enough that on a less robust individual, one would risk whiplash. Looking directly at Kai.

"And Padawan Bamarri. I'll require you as well." Without waiting for confirmation from Dagon he already was walking towards the exit, beckoning the two to follow him in such a way that was not quite a command, but certainly not a request that he was accepting no as an answer to.

“You’ve both volunteered to help with preparing a meal for the other Padawans.”

"Good." he softly nodded, a faint glitter of pride in his eyes. A simple handshake hardly ever solved a problem but it was a good start. "Sit on the sidelines, your sessions are over for today."
"Knight Kaze, do you mind if I borrow your Padawan for a bit?"

"Sure, go ahead."

Dagon turned heel, returning to where the rest of the knights and masters had converged to watch the padawan bouts. His attention shifted from the two boys to Jem whose body language had been the complete opposite of Corin's. Hues of reluctance and even disinterest dyed the Fierreroan's skin making the Knight wonder if it was still driven by the dread of corruption her father had instilled in her or was it perhaps an objective and clear estimate of her own skills sharpened by tribulations few had seen and even fewer survived.

"Uhh... other than Kai, who was masterless again?" he asked the rest of his peers, scratching the back of his head. The investigator knew every nook and cranny of Denon but the dealings on Coruscant sometimes escaped him.

"Oh, really? I can't say no to that" the boy said in response to him offering his winnings. He'd have to get the rest from Starlin Rand Starlin Rand later when he got the chance. Silas never really had his own money before, in ways it was quite strange being able to buy whatever he wanted for once even if it was such a low amount.

"It's good to meet you, Jasper. I'm sure our paths will cross again in similar circumstances at some point" he said with a brief smile before offering the same expression to his friend. With a respectful nod, he extended his hand out and shook his hand too "Lightbulb huh? good name" Silas joked teasingly before lightly nudging him in the ribs. Silas looked back to Jasper and nodded in an impressed fashion, learning the way of the Jedi by yourself was no small feat. If he ever did that when he first came in, he wouldn't have known where to start.

"Thanks, I learn from the very best after all" he smiled before shooting a quick glance to Valery Noble Valery Noble as an indication to say he was her padawan "If wasn't for her or Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble I probably wouldn't be where I am right now. Valery will get me to where I want to be, I'm sure of it," he said confidently, before hearing his stomach rumble. Silas put a hand on his stomach and shrugged it off "Well, from the looks of things the trouble makers will be making our food" he grinned as he watched them beginning to walk out.

"I'll be doing a few more exercises before I join you guys, So I'll see you there if you're still hanging around. Jasper, Bulb, It was great to meet you both." the teen said respectfully with a small bow of his head. Slowly, he'd move past them both and walk to the mats to push himself a little bit more. Even after that duel he still had some energy in the tank, the food afterward would only prove to be a more than worthy reward for his hard work.

Silas walked over to the mats once more and lowered himself to his back, getting himself into a standard sit up position to begin a set of thirty reps. He didn't do it because of his teacher, but purely out of choice. This was the life he chose, you couldn't slack in an environment like this...

Hollis felt her heart drop into the pit of her stomach as Judah laughed at her response. The young woman seemed to shrink down and deflate, her brow a bit furrowed and eyes on her lap. It certainly wasn’t the response she had been expecting.

When Judah spoke, Hollis didn’t look up… but she listened.

She understood, but that didn’t make his response sting any less. If focus was what she needed, then she was going to be in trouble. It was the reason she bounced from one hobby to the next, a lack of follow-through and commitment. Her eyes shifted up to glance at Judah again.

“You’ve certainly given me a lot to think about,” she said. “I’ll find a way to do what I came here to do.” But she didn’t sound quite as sure as she did before. When the Jedi Master asked about Justice, she blinked. Her eyes shifted towards the training field again and then back to Judah.

“Did I?” she asked, and her hands went to her cheeks – unconsciously trying to cover the blush that was blooming on her face. “Justice is very nice and we get along really well.”

That smile returned.

“And he’s cute, too.” Hollis clapped a hand over her mouth. She hadn’t meant to say that part out loud, and now found herself wanting to flee. “Please don’t tell him I said that!”

"I'll be doing a few more exercises before I join you guys, So I'll see you there if you're still hanging around. Jasper, Bulb, It was great to meet you both."

“Yeah, likewise,” Jasper nodded with a smile.

As Silas went off to continue training, Jasper turned to the little droid floating beside him and grinned.

“Looks like ‘lightbulb’ stuck,” Jasper teased.

“Don’t start with me,” Pyf scowled. “I’ll start telling people what Lana calls you.”

“Alright,” Jasper laughed, scratching the bridge of his nose. “I yield… Looks like I’ve still go a ways to go.”

“You think so?” the droid asked.

“I know so,” Jasper responded with a sigh. “Silas is younger than me, but seems close to if not my equal. And I’d wager that there are a good number of students in here with a natural gift of some kind… If I don’t keep working, they’ll leave me in the dust.”

“So… what’s your plan?” Pyf asked.

“Oh, I don’t have a plan,” Jasper shrugged with a grin. “I’m just gonna wing it. I figure I’m stubborn enough to make something happen.”

It was all a matter of time in the end of the day. Jasper definitely had a lot of things he was dealing with, be it personal anxieties, his social awkwardness, the complicated situation unfolding around his conception… This was nothing new. Jasper was constantly stressed, something he learned he couldn’t change, but he’d be damned if he let it keep him from knighthood, protecting those he cared about, or anything else for that matter. He just needed to put in the elbow grease.

“I should probably go speak to the masters,” Jasper reasoned. “I need to give my formalities for hosting the event. And I should probably pass along a good word to Silas’s master…”

He remembered Valery Noble Valery Noble being the one to organize the event, so at least he could kill two birds with one stone.

Ariana continued to massage, relieving slowly the muscles on her calves, it was a pleasant enough motion as she listened to those around her. Though when the first Jedi that had approached them positioned a question to Ariana, she stopped her massage and turned her attention to him.

“Well, after my father nearly gave-up teaching me swordsmanship, we decided to focus on Martial Arts.” Ariana started her response, it was a rather humorous reason to her why she chose fist over sabers. “-Then afterwards my father brought over different Martial Artists to further my studies.” She explained.

“But what I did today was mostly things I learned whenever I sparred against my Father.” She added, truthfully Iris was practically the first person she had spared against outside of her family.

Iris’ own answers made sense to Ariana, being taken under a wing of someone else often led traits to be shared and reinforced. She could have seen her Father continue this type of apprenticeship with her, in fact she wondered how he would differ from the Jedi around her today. Iris mentioned how she felt like Master Noble was like a mother to her, and Ariana slightly mused on if the Jedi Order continued their practice of training new Padawans at such a young age they have no memory of their family.

Her father never really spoke much of the Jedi Order's practices, of course he never really had any ill will towards them either. The most I ever had him explain to me was that their ideals were Noble and necessary. Ariana mentally shrugged and looked between the new Jedi that were next to them. Ariana turned to Iris and gave her a brilliant smile, "-It's a really good thing to have, having someone that means that much to you. "

Corin stared into the sheathed and eyeless sockets of the Jedi Master with the sudden lilt of his eyebrow offered as an answer. "Huh," he thoughtlessly blurted in the moment with the drop of his head and displeasure cast so openly across his youthful features. His entire demeanour shifted, from the disappointment of the sideline to the annoyance that came with undesired servitude. "You're not serious, right?"

Hardly a chef himself, the need to cook was one Corin had not known for some time. Thankfully, too. Not for his lack of skill, but for all the associated memories that accompanied any 'need' the Padawan once had to attend to. Possibly an idea lost to the past, or a dreaded one doubtless to resurface. Corin had no wealth of his own and what few credits he could muster were of some feeble allowance, though it let the Padawan bury his darkest days down the blackest of pits. Buried beneath fonder memories and brighter futures.

"Fine." He inaudibly muttered. "Fine, fine." Corin said a touch louder for Aaran to hear.

"Nearly gave up teaching you in swordsmanship?" Caedyn asked, intrigued as to why that might have been. The use of a Lightsaber was pivotal to a Jedi. While he assumed that Ariana Du Couteau Ariana Du Couteau would have likely improved in the area since those earlier years, he couldn't help but find it curious and something out of the ordinary for a Padawan to favour something outside of saber combat.

Sparring with a lightsaber was usually the first thing a student would ask to do; in his experience, leading classes back with the Order of the Silver Jedi, the Jedi of Svivren and the Outer Planets Alliance as well. Almost to the point of it being frustrating, younger students want to jump into the saber arts without even attempting the theory and self-discipline.

Looking to Iris Arani Iris Arani , he wondered whether or not Ariana would have it in her to demonstrate her learning thus far one-on-one with him. "Well, I would ask if I might share in a casual sparring match with you" he said, glancing back to Ariana momentarily before looking to Iris once more, "Though I don't want to press her too much after the match you both just took on" he grinned, giving Iris a half nod of both encouragement and approval. "I'm quite experienced in the way of Stav Kesh, which for the Je'daii, was a path dedicated to self-discipline and mastery over the physical self. Martial Arts and combat styles utilizing a variety of weapons were taught to me in the Temple on Tython...-Though this was when I was a Padawan, quite a while before your time" He chuckled quietly at his own expense, taking a dig at his age to show a little humour and warm spirited discussion.

The teachings of the Je'daii held many similarities to the Order's own, given that the Jedi themselves originated from the ancient order long ago, just as the followers of bogan, many of whom were known today as the Sith, had done so. There were many aspects of his upbringing under the training of Asha Vynea that would differ a great deal however. In this, Caedyn had always made it a silent promise to himself and those teachings of the past to carry his knowledge forward to teach those receptive and open-minded. There was but one exception in that fact however, he always steered clear from teaching the way of bogan to students. Were a Jedi Knight to inquire, then he might consider it, but Padawan in their youth and inexperience, were very susceptible to its influence and losing their way. He just wouldn't risk it. It was difficult enough for an experienced Master of the Force to stave off Bogan's influence.

Glancing back to Ariana, he reiterated the offer, not wanting to discourage the prospect of the sparring match; "If you do feel up to it, and those muscles of yours allow it..." He gestured to where she had been massaging her legs, "I would feel privileged to see how much you've learned. So far".

Glancing back to Iris once more, he gently added, "That is if you don't mind my stealing her away from you, too?".

It wasn't until Dagon relaxed and glanced her way that she was able to breathe the tension from her shoulders. The padawan took cue from the master-- it was perhaps childish and even clingy to do, but Jem being here today was a trial in itself.

Shame had no place in forward motion.

Her blade whipped out, muscles snapping with unnerving percision as it caught the attacking blade. Jem’s head pivoted towards Sola, mechanical as instinct took over. Well, she had her attention now. Jem’s blade continued to rotate, forcing Sola’s momentum to slide off her and disperse into the air around her.

This left the girls center open for the barest moment, but instead of striking, Jem shoved on it with the force to prove her point.

Gotta keep your guard secure.

And that was rude!
