OLD Factory Q&A

If I have done a dev thread to move the locations of my company would it count towards the misc thread requirement for tiering a company up or would that not be allowed?

Also would dev threads for creating custom equipment for a PC such as armor or a ship count towards misc threads if the item was manufactured by my company?

[member="Gray Raxis"]

As long as they were not used before for any other tier up, yes.

and yes, dev for armor would be considered misc.

The only time it wouldn't count if it is your major project.

1, Dev Threads, can we do twice as long a dev thread and have two different writers dev 2 technologies for each in it, so it gives people motivation to collaborate?

2, Dev Threads, can we do twice as long a dev thread and dev 2 technologies in it (for the same character), to keep things in one long thread?

Same question but different motivations obviously.

3, How much of a dev thread should I do for a new type of shield/armor combination concept for a vehicle. I know this is like asking how long is a piece of string, but I want a good idea before I start.

4, I've also seen people self deving with one writer, is this acceptable as a general rule?

Thanks for the help.
I saw this post and wondered if it applied to companies as well, for instance could I do a double/triple length Dev Thread to add a new Operation and a new Location?

Thank you! Now a follow up question: If I had to move twice and one was used for company creation along with the auction where I bought it, is it not able to count towards misc now because I used it for the company creation to move the facilieties once already?

Yeah I know, moving twice. Was stupid when I moved the first time because the location didn't make as much IC sense as this second move does.

Yes you can. As long as they are roleplayed in the thread as creating a new operations and location

I won WESTAR in an auction and then did a 10 post thread to move its location. I linked both of those threads when I filled out the company creation page to justify ownership and the changing of locations. I then decided my first move for that was not in the best IC locations for my company so I did a second dev thread to move it yet again. I know the second one applies for misc thread for tier up thanks to your answer earlier, but I was curious if the first dev thread to move the company could apply as well or is it not able to because it went into the company creation?

I hope that clears my question up because if not then I will just drop it.

One is a contract, the other a .. whatever it is. What are you doing in there? Are you building things? Are you contracting out?

Does it pertain to the expansion of your company?

And have you've used the threads before for another tier up or major project?

[member="Cira"] no this is the first time used these thread, one was supply the republic arms. The other I am unsure off, but I am doing a sub to say I made good my end of it.
i.e. A militia trained for use on coruscant.

I am asking as never truly understood the rules of moving up a tier, and yes I have read it.

yes I done a few dev threads.

Then depending on the Tier level, you require contracts, subs, and misc threads.

You may not use the threads you used for contracts for misc/project threads.

You may use dev threads you've used for submissions as misc threads, contract threads ( if the contract was made there).

You may use any thread that details the expansion of your company as misc threads.

All of the above may only be used once per tier with very rare exclusions applying. ( IE a thread in the hundreds of posts you use as a single thread)

There's a canon criminal organisation I'm looking to submit as a company, however many of its operations are never described in much detail, only mentioned. It has/had many, many front companies. If I'm starting it at Tier II, am I limited to starting with three of these operations?

Yes, although you may add more with more development. I would suggest starting with the noted limits (without development) for operations & locations and then adding more later on via Modification Requests once you wish to tier up your company.

Ok, thank you [member="Lisette Kuhn"]. Also, two more questions if you don't mind:
1. How would a non-manufacturing company satisfy the manufacturing post requirements for upgrading tiers? I've seen one company do it by constructing places, so I was wondering what other ways it could be done.
2. The other canon company that I'm considering has two subsidiaries, however someone has claimed one of them saying they bought it out and that it has no parent companies, which seems implausible to me. Would I still be able to claim it as a subsidiary?

Service companies are handled on a case-by-case basis, which you can get more information regarding tier promotions for them by contacting [member="Cira"]. Generally miscellaneous threads (a thread where a service is provided and such) would substitute submissions.

I'll direct this question to [member="Cira"], who looks over the Company section of the Factory.

I was wondering if you can scrap, for the lack of a better term, a submission and use the restricted materials in the submission in another submission. I ask this because I want to scrap my old armor and update it more befitting of my characters play style since when I made the armor it was a bit of a rush and underthought in my opinion.

You are free to utilize the salvaging rules for submissions containing restricted materials. You can find these rules here. If you have any questions regarding them, please ask.
