OLD Factory Q&A

Isamu Baelor

Protector of The Iron Realm
Got a question in regards to companies:

I would like to change one of my companies operation (because I've never used it, and won't for a long while), what would be the requirements for doing so?

I'm guessing a dev thread, and a post in the modifications thread. That it?

Back with another question:

Looking to upgrade the tier of my company. Let's say I'm not really a fan of doing three miscellaneous threads. Can I do a bunch of extra-mass produced subs, and have those count towards the upgrade requirements instead?

Unfortunately, no.

The misc threads are a requirement.

1) The following questions pertain to the possible introduction of the Invisible Hand into Chaos canon. A search of the canon items page revealed nothing under that name, so firstly I'd like to verify it hasn't already been.

2) A dreadnought falls under flagship, but the ship size is only 1,088m. Does it fall under the creation rules for a flagship or ship under 1,700m rules? Would I use the destroyer template or flagship one?

3) Is a dev thread necessary for canon items/ships?

All canon items require a development thread, and being that it is a ship over 1000 meters it must follow all starship rules and development requirements for a ship of that size.

All canon items must also be claimed by a single writer, not a faction.

If the item is not on the list, it is not taken, either.

To more directly answer a question that you didn't directly pose:
1. An individual character may not own a ship greater than 400 meters in length. Ships over 400 meters must be owned by a Faction (Major or Minor) or Company, and may be captained by the character, but in case of leaving will not go with them without exceptional circumstances and faction administrator approval.
1. Each writer may possess no more than a total of 5 canon items across all their characters. Factions, companies, and other organizations are unable to claim canon items.
As far as I am aware, a ship over 400 meters (that is canon), would be in conflict with either of these rules as a ship over 400 meters must be owned by a faction or company, and all canon items must be owned and claimed by a single person.

Can a canon company merge with another? That other canon company is NPC-controlled, however, and, in canon, looks like it is tier-2 (despite flying to JanFathal, as per Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, if we assume the ride's Spaceport THX1138 to be in orbit over JanFathal), with a very limited fleet of 40-seaters and few destinations, one of which is a possible dominion target. During an upcoming dominion, a merger will occur between my canon company and that canon company.

I know that canon companies cannot own other canon companies as subsidiaries unless they canonically have such a relationship, though.

You can always try to have the Providence-class revived and have your faction own one of these things (in canon the Providence-class was described as a SD-sized carrier), where the dev post must center on the faction owning or building it (10+ posts and preferrably two or more writers). Just don't claim that particular unit to be the same as a similarly-named canon unit.

Are you talking canon Holocrons or made up ones?

While Holocrons may be used by whomever, canon Holocrons must be claimed oocly by a single writer. There is a max of five unique canon items that could be claimed per writer account. Please review the list of unique canon items in factory information forum to review what has already been claimed.

No.

You may not absorb another canon company into another canon company if you already own one canon company. Even if it were possible, any other writer with no other canon companies can submit that canon company you absorbed as your own and claim the business however they desire.

Also, please do not answer questions here for other members; let the Factory RPJ's or admins handle this as we are the ones with the correct information.

Katelyn Feanor

Two sides of a singular coin
Okay, so I want to go about creating an Artificial Intelligence. Yet, none of my (active) characters are scientists. So, how would I go about doing this? Could I do let's say…a thesis/research logs (both) with an NPC character created in the NPC section? I'm just curious as I do not want to create a new character just to create another new character.

Yes. This is acceptable. You are also free to do this RP in a first-person perspective of an unapproved NPC that is the scientist/creator in question.

Tempest

Storm of the Force
I have a set of Beskar Armour, as does Siobhan, made by @Ordo.

We would like to salvage it, but the creator is gone. Are we able to obtain a dispensation to salvage them ourselves?

Alternatively, since we have the Beskar, can we simply purchase Beskar from the Mandalorians and/or a smith to remake it?

Thank you

Only the submitter may salvage the materials of a submission. Any other method of obtaining the materials through what is outlined in the restricted materials list, however, is fine. That includes having a mandalorian forge new armor.
