OLD Factory Q&A

I had a question regarding Pending Approval items. I can not remember if I've seen anything talking about my question elsewhere, or if I have, I may have forgotten.
Can I use an item that is Pending Approval (in this case my Crescent class Starfighter) or must I wait until it has been fully approved to utilize it in a thread?

The factory is entirely option until/unless you are/have been reported and asked to submit an item to the factory to await approval. So in a nutshell, the answer is technically 'yes', though I would advise that you wait for it to be given the secondary approval before doing so, in the instance that you are reported (not that I believe such is the case, or even remotely likely, I just like to make everyone aware of all possible outcomes of decisions made).

Thank you.
I will continue to await the secondary approval, though at this moment doing so has currently stalled progress with this character.

I have a question concerning how to exactly make a development thread. I tried looking for some way to create them, but I couldn't find it.
All I need to know is how to make it, any other questions will come after it.

A development thread is any thread that is used for the development of a submission, such as a Public thread about mining Phrik on Alderaan. Any thread which completes a task that would be necessary for a submission, really, is a development thread. Development threads may use the prefixes: Private, Public, Faction, Invasion, Dominion, Duel, Flagship, or Skirmish.

To start a thread you would go to the Open Roleplaying board or the Private Roleplaying board and start a new topic, from which you would engage in a series of posts, either alone or with one or more people (some submissions may require more than one writer to post in a development thread). The task of a development thread is the same as a roleplaying one - as a development is just a roleplaying thread used to develop the materials needed in a submission (or the submission itself). For example, you could be asked for 10 posts on making a new type of energy shield, from there you would make a new thread with 10 posts that are dedicated towards researching and developing the technology.

so my lack of sleep caught up to me.......I accidentally submitted a starship under the vehicle submission. *facepalm* Is there a way of transferring over to the proper submission thread or do I need to redo it?

Your submission is now in the proper location, please try to keep submissions in the correct section of the factory.

Q: Does the addition of Phrik generally create a massive influx of weight towards Body Armor submissions? Would it be considered heavier and denser than steel? Or lighter and mystical like LotR's Mithril?

I'm building a Phrik space suit and staring at the weight category going: "I have no idea how much Phrik weighs?" :p

Phrik is considered super light, as stated in books mentioning its weight and its article on wookiepedia.

Suppose I'm creating a tank, and the image I'm using has several variants (different weapons turrets, same chassis and etc.). Can the different tank variants be covered by 'Modularity' or should I submit a different sub for each variant?

I have seen a few business subs have more things than they can have at teir 2. Things like starships, starship weapons, vehichles, and droids. The FJ will say something like " hey you have too many things you can produce at this teir, you need to drop one. I suggest dropping vehichle production since it is not a long leap to build vehichles AND starships."

My question is thus. If one makes weapons, vehicles and munitions....is it too far a leap for them to make personel armor?

You can list different "loadouts" for the armaments, Modularity is more for things that are modular, such as a slot that can hold any kind of missile launcher or a spot to put a turret. Things which can be added/removed at given points. Now you can make a modular armor for a tank, such as removable plating, though you'll find that you might be better off fleshing that out first prior to submitting the tank as a whole.

As for submitting, if the variations are largely different I would ask that you submit them separately for organizational purposes, but if you feel they are close enough you can submit them together as one tank and optional loadouts and such and if the judge feels they might be too different they will ask at that point for it to be separate. It's a bit hard to tell without seeing the submission, frankly.

I would say it wouldn't be too far to submit a company that makes weapons, vehicles, and personnel armor (or personal if that's what you meant) but it wholly depends on the submission. Your best bet is to either submit 2 operations with the 2 locations or provide a development thread for every operation and location you'd like (within reason) to get what you'd like. As with the question above yours, it is easier to tell once we have the submission already typed out to read.

If I have a company already and had those three things but was told to drop one ( had weapons armor and vehichle) and I dropped armor would I still be able to make armor?
No, companies cannot produce things outside of their operations.

To add on this -- You can write a dev thread branching out into a new production Operation of armormech.

So when you tier up to 3 you show your growth in misc threads and can add a third operation. Your entire four threads for tier 3 can be expanding into armormech, creating the facilities, getting resources for making armor, securing armormech contracts, deving your first prototype armor. Etc

Question on whether or not I would need a sub/dev thread. I'm modifying an existing ship for my own personal use.
Intended finished description:

The Starglow, a modified Espada-class transport. The interior of the ship has been converted from the standard troop-transport to accommodate top-of-the-line sensor arrays and electronic warfare suites, allowing a skilled user (such as Ahra's Hawkeye, Alec) to establish and maintain surveillance and even remote control of a target's security and defenses. A copy of Ahra's programming runs through the ship's main computer, allowing it to respond to cyberthreats, activate the ship's own defenses, and, if necessary, take control of the helm or weapons systems.
