OLD Factory Q&A

Question on whether or not I would need a sub/dev thread. I'm modifying an existing ship for my own personal use.
Intended finished description:

The Starglow, a modified Espada-class transport. The interior of the ship has been converted from the standard troop-transport to accommodate top-of-the-line sensor arrays and electronic warfare suites, allowing a skilled user (such as Ahra's Hawkeye, Alec) to establish and maintain surveillance and even remote control of a target's security and defenses. A copy of Ahra's programming runs through the ship's main computer, allowing it to respond to cyberthreats, activate the ship's own defenses, and, if necessary, take control of the helm or weapons systems.
As far as your programming goes, am I correct to assume it is an A.I? If so, that will require a development thread/blog to complete the restricted materials challenge for use in the ship systems.

As far as submitting goes, the factory is entirely optional so you could very well be just fine without a submission, but if you would like to do so then you would probably just be asked for a thread obtaining the ship itself and the aforementioned A.I requirement.

We all have demons. I've just decided to feed mine
I have a question or two regarding my double lightsaber/saberstaff.

I already have the crystals for both blades, which I'd retrieved in a thread a while back. Similarly, I am in a thread that will allow my character to find a handle to use (I also have a concept picture made for it.)

So, here is my first question: the handle is going to be wood, but it is going to be hollowed out so as to allow for parts to be put in and whatnot (I'll go into further detail on the sub). Is it alright if the innards are just pieces pulled from different training sabers "borrowed" from the Jedi Temple and put together to create a functional saberstaff? Or do I need to actually have a thread where I go out and create/buy/"borrow" the parts necessary?

My second question: Do I need a dev thread where I describe how I hollow out the wood and put the parts/crystals in? Or can I get by with just doing a crash course in the sub?

Just submit the saber with a wood casing and link any threads you already have. You should be good.

2.0 ships v 3.0 ships
I was wondering if 3.0 has any rp advantages as 2.0 ships get more guns and fighters.
The ships are more balanced, and you have no option of submitting 2.0 style ships in the factory. It isn't a matter of advantages so much as it is about the balance and well-being of the starship factory.

Well it depends on the ship, but you won't be seeing ships subbed with armaments and ratings seen in 2.0 now if they don't meet current standards.

To be blunt, no, they are not equal, just as no ship in 3.0 is equal with any other ship in 3.0. As far as people using submissions from 2.0, they are not required to modify their submissions to match new standards as the template changes and such are not retroactive.

But a ship with 10 turbolasers, 5 speed out of 10, 5 maneuverability out of 10, and so on from 2.0 that match 10 turbolasers, 10 out of 20 speed, and 10 out of 20 maneuverability from 3.0 are very similar and nearly the same.

Coupla more questions, not of pressing importance, but they're for an idea later on.

One: For the Personal Cloaking Devices, when you do the thread, does it matter specifically what account you do it on? Because I was hoping, further down the road, to get my Jedi and my Sith a PCD. However, I'd rather do the whole "indirect narration" thing on my writer account.

Two: Are you restricted to one device per writer account? Or one per character? And if it's one per character, can I do each thread with my writer account?

Three: How would you submit the PCD, after retrieving it, to the Factory? Would you just use the basic template and fill it in, best as you can? Or do you simply put it in your profile sheet with a link to the thread? Or, third option, do you link the thread to a judge and ask if it's good enough?

The thread should be done on the account you will be using.

There is no restriction of how many restricted materials a character may have.

Fill out the basic template and submit it in the tech factory.

As per this announcement, I am worried about the sale of restricted materials.

Is it still okay to have "Person A" collect an objective, and transfer it over to "Person B" through a means not considered roleplay, i.e., the Marketplace and its various features, so long as there is a link path showing the work done to complete the objective used for the submission in question?

If this is not acceptable, how large would a roleplay have to be to transfer said restricted material to another character for them to be able to use it? What quality is expected out of such a thread?

As long as there is a method of transfer from a to b it is okay. We prefer a normal 10 post thread, though.

If I have managed a crushing defeat on a mandalorian, could I use that to make a beskar crushganuts for my apprentice, even they wore phrik?

Are you asking if they can wear beskar crushgaunts even though their armor is phrik? Or if you can make crushgaunts out of phrik? It's really not clear.

[member="Ijaat Akun"] restricted material rules state if I inflict a crushing defeat on a mandalorian, I can have beskar.
Does rule still count if they wore phrik.

Yes, you can wear phrik and have beskar gaunts. They're two separate items. It's like Domino wearing her beskar and using her phrik pike. Generally the problem occurs when people try to combine things to be perfect against everything.

Standard disclaimer, I'm not factory staff and they over-rule me. This is just based on what I've seen/done/read in the last few days. Just trying to help cut through the confusion.

Yes. But you would need to do the submission unless you give them the beskar in a thread of some sort.

I've read through the Phrik page on Wookiepedia and noticed that it states that "Phrik, while in its smelting stage, was highly malleable, and could be combined with a number of other ores, alloys, and compunds to imbue the phrik's properties with others."

My question is: would I be allowed to combine Phrik with another restricted metal as long as I had a thread obtaining the Phrik, a thread obtaining the other restricted metal and (maybe) a thread where the Phrik + restricted metal compound is made?

No. Restricted materials may be present in the same submission but may not be blended as one material.
