Rumble in the Jungle [CIS Dominion of Haarun Kal]

Green-Apple.gif

Haruun Kal is a jungle planet. It's indigenous life forms are prone to infighting, and the people born there adhere strictly to Darwinistic principles. During the time of the Clone Wars, a fallen Jedi and the former Padawan to Mace Windu, Depa Billaba was assigned to help the system in an uprising against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During that time, she became too engrossed in the conflict and in their society, and the Jedi Knight turned to the Dark Side.

Hundreds of years later, the only thing that has changed about the world is who holds it. The people still quarrel amongst themselves. Every man and woman is still born sensitive to the Force. And the darkness lingers.

A Forceful populace, however, is a very strong resource. The Vicelord and Dominus Prime of the Knights Obsidian have set their eyes on a veritable cache of future recruits, and the only thing between them and their prize is somehow finding a way to end the savagery.

Meanwhile, unrest is the natural state of the world. It's said that the planet drives people to madness. Survival and conflict are just facts of life. Is there a reason for this, or is someone- or something- driving the Korunni to dark deeds?

The answers are yours to find when we-

bdtfHW.gif

bdt2m1.png
Will you be the one to bring peace to the warring clans, and bring Haruun Kal under the banner of the Confederacy? Diplomacy and conflict are two sides of the same coin: choose to either put down live conflict, or work with tribal leaders to engender a lasting peace.

bdt9uj.png
Or are you more interested in learning about what drives people to madness in the Jungle? Is the Dark Side truly just naturally strong in this place, or does something evil lurk in the foliage?

We came to take the planet, and if you have a better idea to do that than you think we did, by all means, do it!

THE JUNGLE
OBJECTIVE: INVESTIGATE SOURCE OF MADNESS

A drop of sweat rolled down Elias' brow reminding him once more of the humidity of Haruun Kal's jungles. Only once before had he been on the planet. Not as a monster hunter, but as an officer of the Alliance Navy. As a point of re-supply a lot of men had volunteered to help local tribes in various errands as an act of goodwill. It was then where he made contact with a chieftain of a small tribe and helped cure his relative. So when the chieftain made contact with Elias a week ago, he accepted the job.

The monster hunter prowled cautiously through the jungle heeding well the warning of the chief that the jungle was no-man's territory. While he had known even prior to his first arrival on the planet of the warlike attitudes of the natives, Elias did not expect the intense warring state the world found itself in. And probably the chieftain shared the same surprise thus reaching out at the monster hunter.

Elias' trek led him to a small spring where he refilled his canteen with water. He had to be wary of dehydration considering the harsh climate. The monster hunter took a sip of the water before nesting the canteen back in his long dust coat. The harness shoulder holster of his pistol and the sheath of his blade on the back of his blade swung forward reminding him they both needed fixing. He adjusted them once again before raising his head grazing his surroundings with his eyes. An unnatural silence had befallen the jungle.

Bad feeling crept down his spine amidst the harmony of the rain forest.

ALLIES: Who Knows?
Haarun Kal. The jungle planet was something of a legend in the circles of those who subscribed to the tenets of the force, the birthplace of many austere and powerful Jedi and Sith over the centuries. None of that history mattered to High Marshal Kiff Brayde, however. It was just more bantha dung in this godless forest, teeming with creatures, too many bugs, and warring tribes. It was campaigns like these that made Kiff feel he had the worst job in the Confederacy. The sooner he got it done, the better.

With Kiff's ground force were five PBTs, marine-oriented transport raft perfect for the dense jungles and swamps of Haruun Kal. Three ABT-36s were with the PBTs, and in the center lead one stood the High Marshal himself. Kiff was not particular to ground combat -- he'd graduated from the Arkanis Naval Academy, and most of his battles had been fought in the cold vacuum of space. But Kiff's duties as High Marshal extended everywhere, including the ground, and Kiff would be remise to pass up an opportunity to further his skills in terrestrial combat.

The planet was alive. Scherezade could feel it down to her very bones. With every breath she took, the darkside entered her lungs deeper, its sweet embrace taking every nook and cranny that the air could get into.

This was not like the Darkness. Far from it. The Darkness scared her, terrified her, even after all this time. There was familiarity of a certain sense with it, yet, but then what else could be said about something that had been actively scarring you for over seven centuries and was your only companion for most of that time?

But where the Darkness terrified, the darkside cradled. It almost… It almost felt like home, of sorts. She wanted more of it, craved unlimited stacks of the thing. And so she had run straight into the depths of the jungle, ran as far as her legs could carry her, first on their own and then enhanced by the Force. Unsure of how far she's gotten exactly, it could have been hours and it might have been endless miles, but at last she stopped when the heavy trees parted ways, and sunshine came unfiltered through, hitting her skin without any mercy.

Glowing green eyes only now took her surroundings in. Far away from people; either that, or the darkside of the planet was covering her Blood Hound senses. As she was not severed from the Force, all it would take was a small touch, a lick of a thing, just to feel around with her force presence, but… But she did not want to do that.

There was comfort in this. To have some of her senses either not functioning or having no reason to function, while all the others remained perfectly intact. She could hear running water from not too far away, and she walked over, following the sound. Water. Yes. Only now did she realize her throat was parched. She needed a drink and her waterskin… She didn't even have it with her.

Crouching, Scherezade dunked her face into the cool streaming water, the refreshing feeling of it sending life to every pore of her body. Keeping her head under the water for just a few seconds more, she at last came up again to breathe, and lay down, arms beneath her head, simply enjoying being there.

An admiral was a hell of a thing, a hell of a man. As he understood, so was the one he was assigned to protect. They picked him, well. Because of his prior experience in protecting people. He didn't feel like going into detail. Plus, someone mentioned that he punched Kaine Zambrano and lived.
So he was here, rifle slung across his lap as he rode on the outside of the tank that carried the CIS forces. He was using a slugthrower, specifically, a belt-fed machine gun- Karsan after all, was well-versed in a variety of environments, and anyone with half a brain and a decent amount of training knew for a fact that blasters fouled up faster than anyone's business in a dirty environment. Mud, dirt, debris, water were commonplace in a jungle, so a slugthrower it was. Karsan also opted to not wear armor- jungle fatigues instead. Camouflage was just as effective in the jungle as armor, anyway. Overheating and getting heat injuries were more likely to slow down your troops than getting shot, anyways. His face, neck, ears were also all painted to match the environment, and the only real giveaway that he was there was his teeth and eyes, bright white on both accounts.
He turned his head to watch the High Marshal, but didn't say anything. He had no other real mission than to protect the man. Not much needed to be said. Karsan wasn't here to make decisions, he was a trigger puller, after all. He checked his weapon, pulling up the tray to make sure a round was chambered, before turning back to watch the approaching forest. He mused over the idea that they were supposedly bringing peace with tanks and machine guns in hand.
Then again, nothing said 'stop fighting' like someone with a tank rolling up in the middle of your petty tribal war, after all.

THE JUNGLE
OBJECTIVE: INVESTIGATE SOURCE OF MADNESS

Elias followed the spring upstream shuffling through thicket where he could and going around where he couldn't. The soft mud beneath his feet clung to his boots with every step he took. He took an aimless path leaving it to instinct to guide him to the right way. With the muffled senses in the Force he possessed, Elias mainly relied on his wit and essential hunting methods to hunt.

Half an hour of trudging through the thickness of the jungle he found himself in a clearing of the jungle where the spring widened and a woman carelessly lied on her back with her hands beneath her head. Elias very slightly arched an eyebrow as he abruptly halted. The hilt of his blade felt the soft grasp of the monster hunter's hand faintly tighten. For a moment he stood there contemplating whether he should find another way around but his curiosity got the better of common sense.

"Not the usual place for daydreaming." Elias called out tonelessly. His hand fell down from the hilt of his force imbued blade. Questions flickered through his mind like a fast forwarded film on a roll. For now he remained reluctant to tap in the ethereal of the Force.

The sun remained high in the sky as Scherezade continued to just lay there on the river bank, her feet moving in rhythm to music that could not be heard anywhere outside her head. The expression on her face was one that was rare to see on her features when she was not mid-fight; joy. This planet, she knew and was not confused by; it looked so much like Endelaan even though it was not. But it had all the right components – the lush jungle, the sunlight, and the scent of the darkside. It was a piece of nostalgia that belonged to a childhood she was never allowed to have.

She inhaled deeply, now catching the scent of blood. No, the person did not have to be bleeding for that to happen; but it did tell her that there were no large warm blooded animals nearby. Other than that person, of course. The Blood Hound sniffed the air again. Human. Or almost entirely human. She sometimes got confused around the edges with scents that were both new and old at the same time to her sensitive nose.

When she lifted her head ever so slightly, he called to her. His words were met with a lazy smile, but her glowing green eyes didn't miss the movement of the hand. Had he intended on harming her, then? It would be adorable if he did! More than half of her blades were visible, the other part hidden beneath almost impossibly skin tight armor.

"Are you certain about that?" she asked, her tone friendly, as she pushed herself up to sit comfortably, "trees, water, sunlight… Sort of more like the perfect spot for it, wouldn't you say?" This time, she openly looked at the hand that had held the knife but moments ago. "I think you want a bigger knife for someone my size," she laughed and leaned back against the tree.

If he really did want to kill her, she was going to give all the one liners she could pull out of a hat. And if not? Maybe she could try that breaking the ice thing and not be completely awkward about it for a change.

Elias inspected the stranger from head-to-toe as best as he could from this distance. Armed was an understatement. Maybe one could thoroughly enjoy the murderous jungle equipped like that. He glanced at his sheathed blade upon her mention of it and glanced back at her. She did have a bit of a height advantage over him.

"It's a cursed jungle." Elias stated nonchalantly shuffling forward closer to her all composed and all cautious. He looked around for any traps or nasty surprises but found none. Only the chirping of birds and the running water. Ignoring the jungle's true nature and the potential source of the planet-wide madness spree, one could certainly observe a certain serenity here.

"I won't be needing the blade unless you give me a reason to." He said with a brief smile flashing across his otherwise stoic face. The monster hunter jerked his head at her own blades. "You look armed enough to hunt a city or two."

"Confederacy?"

Cursed? Scherezade blinked in surprise. "Why would someone call this jungle cursed?" she asked in a near dream-like voice, looking around her. The glow of her eyes captured the sunlight, the trees, she could smell the clean earth, the river next to her… What was cursed about any of it?

But then she remembered… "They said something about that…" the young woman whispered, and sniffed the air a little louder this time. It wasn't the darkside. The darkside, despite the teachings of many Jedi and other people that were simply wrong, was not a curse. "something about the planet drives people to madness," she repeated the words from her briefing regarding the situation on Haruun Kal.

With a sigh, Scherezade rose from her spot on the ground and stretched out. There had been a reason she came here, to this planet she'd never heard of before. She was meant to investigate, to use the skills and talents she'd had as part of the Ministry of Secrets parading as a Knight Obsidian and help figure out what was going on.

Turning to the man again, she gave him a nod, and another smile. "Ever since I stopped being a baby," she admitted, though she didn't add the part where that had actually happened just little over a year ago and in the middle of it were seven centuries spent in Darkness. She didn't have to spill everything on a first go.

"I've got an idea!" she jumped, "Okay mister stranger, wanna team up? I'm pretty sure that if we can catch a big mammal that most likely was born on this planet and lived its entire life here, I could figure out if they're actually cursed. An actual person, that would be best, but I can settle for a bantha or something like that. We might even get a late breakfast out of what. What say you?"

Her voice was positively glowing, just like her eyes, and it was easy to see that the mere thought excited her. Hunting! Blood! Curses! And oof, that sweet smell of darkside. To Scherezade, smelling the darkside on this planet was almost like what freshly baked cinnamon buns smelled to most people – bliss.

"You can call me Scherezade," she added with a little sheepish smile, "what's yours?"

Maeve pulled her hood off her head and let out a sigh. Her forehead was dripping with sweat and it was so humid that even as she tried to wipe her brow, she still felt soaked. She really didn't want to think about what her hair would be doing right now, though she was sure that it was currently a ball of frizz in its loose braid along her back. Resisting the temptation to rub at her eyes, knowing that even her waterproof eyeliner would probably smudge, she set her bag at her feet and leaned against the rough bark of a nearby tree. It had probably been a sort of punishment from her superior that she had been sent to this hell-hole of a planet, and on a peacekeeping mission at that. And she did not know who else she would be working with, though she did assume that she would have been given some sort of backup.

Though, of course, if there was no back up, she was free to do what she would. Peacekeeping wasn't necessarily Maeve's strong suit.

Even from her location outside the Clan, a clamour was already beginning to be raised inside. A shrill scream rang out, before being abruptly cut off, sounds of things being broken, and even some smoke beginning to rise. Though burning the planet to the ground was certainly one way to take it, Maeve was pretty sure "killing all the living inhabitants" and "peacekeeping mission" didn't belong in the same sentence. She narrowed her eyes. To leave and put down the combat, and potentially risk pissing off a superior, or stay and wait for her comrades -- and lose innocent lives in the process.

She twisted her watch around her arm so that it was face up, and set a timer. 5:00... 4:59... 4:58...

She'd give her team mates five minutes -- a perfectly reasonable amount of time, especially considering she herself was later than expected -- and then enter the village without them.

4:00.

THE JUNGLE
OBJECTIVE: INVESTIGATE SOURCE OF MADNESS
Elias watched the girl get suddenly energized as if she'd had one tapcaf tank too many. She seemed far too childish for...well, everything. Scherezade, as she called herself, stood out in extreme contrast to not only the nature of the rain forest they were in but also to her own over the top arsenal she carried. The armor might've fit her perfectly in terms of size and curves but her behavior did not seem...compatible.

He concluded she was either an award-winning actress or a complete lunatic. Nothing of his mental ramblings showed on his face.

"Elias." the monster hunter introduced himself before moving on to close further the gap between them, finding himself now a mild distance from her. Metaphorically speaking - on the stage of her act. Or lunacy. For whatever reason, maybe her behavior, Elias decided he might as well play to her idea. An idea that implied she might possess certain powers of sensing oddities through the Force simply by touch. A power, unfortunately, Elias could only wield through a ritual which took more than just a moment's touch. "Fair enough. Let's find you a person then."

He shifted to the left and began walking into the forest and away from the clearing. A glance shot back at Scherezade.

"You sure you can prowl silently with all that gear?" Elias asked uncertain.

The PBT was more or less a tin can when it came to air condition, and leaving the oxygen scrubbing filter for whenever they would realy need it. On a planet like this, it would surely be needed if they were unfortunate enough to take a dive in one of the strange toxic gas oceans. Sitting leant over the E-22 blaster rifle between her legs, arms around it's double muzzle, she held a datapad in her hands. The battle droids around her did not offer much of a chit-chat, so she spent the time reading about the planet and the matters which they were supposed to handle when they reached their objective.

Truth to be told, she thrived in a fighter cockpit, but could cope with this if needed. It would be funny if she didn't, considering her years in an expeditionary fleet out in the unknown regions and borders to wild space. She had sen alot, and obviously, her curiousness continued to lead her on unknown paths. She devoted a thought to general Solaire, wondering if he ever had been on Haarun Kal. He probably would have liked to tag along, if he could leave his beloved Denon that was. Not that she doubted admiral Brayde, that had left his flagship to lead this ground mission. Even if she not yet had the honor to meet the man. The Confederacy seemed to be meticulous when choosing their leaders. He had lead the mission above Paradiso and haven't left her any reason to doubt that he was also able for ground battle. If it now came to that, if she would have choosen the side of that double sided coin - it would have been the diplomacy side. These inhabitants weren't sensless droids like the ones she had blown to pieces back over Paradiso, they were people far outside the reaches of any highly developed worlds and governments.

She closed the datapad with a sigh and put it away in her vest. The droids stayed quiet, patiently awaiting the arrival of the convoy and the next orders from admiral Brayde.

''So! What oil would you buy these days to keep away the rust?'' she asked, just grabbing something from the air and not realy expecting much.

No answer. Go figure.

''Ookay...'' she said to herself in an exhale and raising the eyebrows in response to the uncomfortable silence that followed.

Making his way through the foliage, Nathan kept cursing his luck. A downpour of rain that just wouldn't stop crashed down from the clouds above, as if trying to make the CIS forces as "Unwelcome" as is possible. Nathan could already feel that this would be a long day. A planet with barely any technology to tinker with, and weather that forced him to leave his scout drones behind. Not a good start to any deployment.

Nathan has always been as punctual and on time as possible, but on this very occasion he was falling behind. A few calibration issues with his armor's thrusters forced him to waste precious time. 3 minutes. 180 seconds. And each second could be a deciding factor. Schedule was key.

Another problem to note- one of his partners for today's mission was Maeve Archeron. Not the most patient person of all. Nathan wouldn't want to make her wait. Especially after taking pride in his own punctuality.

A few kilometers of mud, dirty boots and rain later, he was finally at rendezvous. Looking around, he could see that most of the Dauntless were already there. Somewhat embarrassed by his late arrival, the soldier quickly made his way to Maeve and the others. It looked as though everyone else was enjoying the weather about as much as he was. He turned his gaze towards the nearby settlement. Hints of smoke started appearing overhead.

"What are our orders?"- Nathan's quite, metallic voice ruined the moment of meaningful silence.

Vytal sought to prove her worth to the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and so was always on the prowl for opportunities to do so. Those that were painfully familiar seemed choice. Many whispered in the dark of the Witches of Dathomir, but few enough seemed to truly fear her. Did she want them to fear her? Not really, but it was almost a matter of pride. The Nightsisters should command respect. And to that end respect was earned whether by aiding allies, or terrorizing enemies.

This planet. This...Haruun Kal was said to be 'cursed' by darkness. A jungle that would swallow the minds of those that entered it. One full of creatures that would no doubt gnaw on the bones too weak to live long enough to be driven mad. It almost sounded like home. So much more the reason for Vytal to come here and perhaps return with the reason that drove lesser beings mad. T'was the purpose of an Archivist, was it not, to uncover secrets and powers? A little field work would help keep her hunting senses sharp.

Although, upon her arrival and trek into the green, Vytal could see it was not Dathomir. With such proclaimed malevolence the planet should be red with the blood of countless creatures. And the ground was not damp enough for her liking. Better than most planets. Leagues above all those cities and their hard streets or grand walkways. So the Nightsister did not complain of the planet's shortcomings as it was a reprieve, and the energy that drifted in the air a welcome presence all too often lacking on many worlds. Especially those of the Jedi, a Confederacy ally. This "light side" Vytal did not take too kindly. Not out of blind hatred, but it simply felt wrong.

Crouched upon a branch high over the jungle floor, spear in hand, the hooded figure waited. Several minutes ago Vytal had caught wind of a beast and taken to stalking it from above. She sought to understand it. How it moved, whether it could sense her as she carefully navigated the many branches. They danced around one another each cautious not to draw attention to itself; unfortunately for the animal a hunter had already marked it as prey.

The Siren’s climate control system served its purpose in keeping its diminutive operator from having to directly experience the uncomfortably hot and humid weather that permeated the air around her. Unfortunately, the suit’s weight made Valery feel especially heavy given the moisture of the ground beneath her armored feet. As such, in order to avoid sinking knee-deep into a bog that was deeper than it looked again, she was careful to utilize her suit’s environmental scanners in order to assess the depth of her surroundings every thirty seconds or so. Fortunately, the suit itself was hermetically sealed and waterproofed, but bodies of water still presented a significant risk if she fell in too deep and was unable to utilize her hypermatter thrusters to escape.

After walking over four miles, Valery emerged from a nearby swamp dripping wet as she pulled various pieces of foliage from the surface of her suit. From there, it did not take her long to trek the final few meters to the designated rendezvous point which had been marked on her map.

As she arrived, she spotted her blonde-haired bunk mate and a single unfamiliar masculine face, who was presumably another new recruit to the Dauntless. Upon seeing the two soldiers, Valery took off her helmet with a mechanical hiss and approached the slowly forming group.

According to her own clock, she was roughly three minutes late, but it seemed like she was just in time for the beginning of the operation.

A daytime skydive onto an undeveloped planet that somehow managed to through everyone off course was how this day started. This was supposed to be a simple assassination op, one that Luna even questioned the necessity to send both Alpha and Omega squads on. However, with how it was starting off, she was happy that she had made the decision to approve both squads to join. She just hoped that they were both having better luck getting to the Rendezvous point than she was. Not that they could be doing much worse, in her mind.

Her situation revolved around having to climb down a seemingly ever long tree after getting caught in the branches, leaving her with a few new bruises that she knew would take a while in a bacta tank to fully heal. How the branches managed to hurt her through her armor would remain a mystery, but here she was, taking a moment to gather her breath on the floor of the forest at the base of the tree, before heading toward the rendezvous point.

Pushing through the foliage at a pace that would allow her to get the point on time was by no means pleasant. Even with her helmet on, she could still feel the solid thuds against it each time a branch seemingly reached out and bonked her on the head. Still, she managed to make it with a few minutes to spare, seeing that most of the two squads had made it on time. Quickly, she made her way to the center of the gathering and raised her voice loud enough to the group to hear. “Get me a headcount. I need to know how many aren’t here.”

The count was done quickly, and the results were good enough, Luna supposed. Of the twenty four men and women that had taken a dive out of a flying ship, 20 had made it to the rendezvous point, and the four missing were two a piece from Alpha and Omega squads. The more unfortunate fact was that at the moment, Omega was missing their medic, someone that Luna hoped would show up soon enough.

Her head turned to the commando who raised his voice in question, to which she quickly nodded and made sure all of the group was gathered in a small enough circle she wouldn’t have to raise her voice too high. “Listen up, here’s the op. Get into that village, take out the leader of the warrior clan inside. If the warriors give resistance, they’re dead too. Depending on how the locals treat us when their warrior clan leader is dead, we may or may not end up torching the whole place. Make sure you stay with your battle buddy, and keep comms open. Any questions?

Diplomacy wasn’t Keva’s strong suit. But, iron-fisted and bloody diplomacy couldn’t be all too different from how she waged war. It was the pure and simple notion of making the knee bend through excessive amounts of force.

And what the Colonel brought to Haruun Kal showed this same idea of excessive force. The marching of droids and the humming of Gunships softly sounded across the jungle. It was no invasion force, but it was more than enough to utterly decimate any unruly tribals. Of course, a handful of tanks churned forward. As none of Keva’s forces were complete without a handful of tanks, though it was indefinitely a light handful today.

And to little shock, Keva’s ever favored command tank was where she sat. Free from mud, flesh-eating plants, flesh-eating bugs, and the flesh-eating planet. It was a cozy place, albeit painfully hot when combined with that ever pristine uniform.

Elias. Scherezade gave him a little smile before wiping her hands on the sides of her hips, waiting for him to come closer before the two could embark on a wonderful adventure to capture a mammal. Or person. Because this planet was cursed, right. She wasn't supposed to forget about that, even if every time she inhaled, all she wanted to do was crouch down and hug the planet with both arms.

It was his question though that caught her off guard – could she? "Of course," Scherezade responded with a shrug. Was she supposed to be noisy just because of the amount of weapons she carried? Her muscles knew the business; despite her height and weight, she moved with grace and elegance most of the time, as though she'd been trained as a dancer. It had been a blessing, really, since what she had was years and years of dancing, but only in memories that weren't hers. It had taken a few weeks before her muscles began to behave as though they too remembered them.

And now… Moving around as a walking weaponry was as natural to her as being naked. Even in civilian clothing, she always had weapons hidden about her.

"I don't have any tranquilizers with me," she apologized to Elias after a short silence, "Are you one of those who care about preserving the lives of others and all of that? It's easier to take blood from dead people. Those that aren't tend to resist, and then it gets dangerous what with all their attempts to resist and stuff."

And then she held her hand up, signaling to him to stop with her. Gently, Scherezade raised her nose a little bit and closed her eyes, inhaling deeply.

"Blood," she whispered, "Village? Small hamlet? A few dozen people, human or close enough to it… A few hundred meters in that direction. Of course… We're still close to water."

But there was more. Another scent that she suddenly caught, turning her head in the opposite direction. A scent that she had smelled before, of something… No, someone. And then a third scent, of something completely unfamiliar to her. Motioning for Elias to follow her, she turned away from the village, and towards the owner of the second scent, [member="Vytal Noctura"].

THE JUNGLE
OBJECTIVE: INVESTIGATE SOURCE OF MADNESS

She did stalk through the jungle with silence usually incompatible with all the gear she wore. Elias guessed everything with Scherezade was deep contrasts to the point he wondered just for a moment whether she was an apparition spawned by the mysterious jungle.

"I am here to investigate and eradicate the source of the madness." He replied when she asked him whether he cared if there was innocent blood to be shed. "Just that."

"If you need a person knocked out - leave it to me." Elias explained calmly.

While Scherezade tracked targets possibly through scent considering the faint motions of her nose, he took out a small vial from the inside pocket of his long dust coat. With one motion he uncorked the potion and drank its purple hazed contents. For a monster hunter who had very limited capabilities in the school of Force Sense, Elias had to often rely on products of natural alchemy.

The effects came almost instantaneously gradually increasing with every passed second. The world suddenly became much richer to him. Color intensified and multiplied. Lost scents resurfaced in his nose and sounds previously obscured in the cacophony of background noises now became much more relevant. The minuscule details that formed the bigger picture became visible and relevant.

"Or a warriors' camp." Elias guessed. She shifted towards a different direction and the monster hunter halted briefly with a wince. An instant later he picked up her trail his senses catching something else closer by.

"A humanoid. One." He said what was probably obviously to her too.

Their steps grew more cautious than before as they approached the scent of the humanoid. Just before they would pass through a thick wall of bush Elias raised his hand for them to stop. He turned to face her and whispered. "I will move to flank them, you take point."

It made sense to him. She made the impression of a person well capable to hold their ground on the front line and up close. Elias' strength lied elsewhere. He let his gaze at her linger for a moment as if trying to read more of her before shuffling to the side seeking a way around where he would find himself flanking the unknown target [[member="Vytal Noctura"]].

Three, two, one...

Maeve had watched the arrivals trickle in, none really standing out to her aside from her pink haired roommate, Valery. The battle buddy system was probably in place again (which was dumb, by the way. because Maeve wasn't eleven) and she was pretty sure she'd end up with Val again. Good thing, too, because teamwork was never her strong suit, even when she had already trained for months with her unit and partners.

Her head snapped up just as her watch ran out, but before she could leave for the clan, Luna arrived. The commander seemed to have had just as much trouble as the rest of the squad in arriving here, and she looked a little worse for the wear -- a small branch was wedged in between her arm and her suit and her helmet was covered in sap from the leafy trees that surrounded everything. By now, Maeve had brushed herself off and rebraided her hair, so she was easily the most put together of this small group. Maeve raised her brows at the four lost commandos -- surely they were just late. Surely... Shaking her head and snapping out of it, she listened to Luna's quick briefing. An assassination? Twenty-four -- well, twenty -- commandos seemed to be a bit overkill for a simple assassination objective. Torching the whole place was certainly more her speed, and from what it sounded like in the clan, it could feasibly come to that.

"Valery, you with me?" Before she could make off with her roommate, however, the new recruit [member="Nathan Vance"] caught her eye. Maeve narrowed her eyes. Assuming Luna would go in alone and supervise (leaving the dirty work to her commandos), they had an odd number of people, for Kelsie Sylvan (the other commander) was nowhere to be found. So there would have to be at least one group of three.

It wasn't like Maeve to offer a helping hand, but Luna seemed to be in a bad mood after her rough arrival here and there was no way Maeve would get stuck on cleaning duty again. So she walked over to the man, and nodded at him. "If you don't have a battle buddy yet... you're welcome to tag along with us. Yeah, Valery?"
