Techno Union invasion of Rebel Alliance Geonosis

So, I must protest the use of orbital bombardment in the thread. It represents a crossing over of the space and ground forces, denying anyone on the ground a chance to retaliate and renders ground objectives functionally moot. What then is to stop the Techno Union ships from just firing on the Rebel airbase and obliterating it that way?

I did not want to PM this to [member="Krasnaya Xue"] because I wanted this to be an open discussion, seeing as how there are ramifications to both sides if it is allowed to stand. A traditional bombing run gives you time. There are options. If you're being fired upon from orbit, with weapons capable of acting as tactical nukes or worse, you have no logical recourse. Especially with a weapon system like what has been used in the thread, it is just expected that all the targets roll over and die cause they could "never see it coming".

So, again, I have to formally protest the use of an orbital bombardment in the thread and politely ask Krasnaya to edit her post.

Also, unrelated; please don't tag me in a post if I'm not directly tied to your actions or in your area. It can make it difficult to spot exactly where my attention is actually needed or not.

Bomb away dudes it's a PVP invasion, and it's within reason that both sides could do that. Bomb the rebel base, bomb the air base I made both of them and I simply do not care if they get blown up

So bombarding a random piece of desert where the enemy is and no civilians or property is located from space is a bad idea?

The problem is the physics at play.

This isn't just something that will punch a hole in a single piece of armor.

At conservative estimates, each one of these would create a fireball almost five hundred meters in diameter. There would be a 200 PSI overpressure blast three hundred fifty meters in diameter, a 20 PSI overpressure blast a kilometer in diameter. 20 PSI overpressure is enough to demolish just about any concrete building to say nothing of the number of deaths. 10 PSI of overpressure can blow off limbs and severely damage your heart and lungs. What's 20 PSI overpressure gonna do? 200?

Each hex on the ground map is 50 meters wide. There are twenty across and twenty down. That's a kilometer.

Krasnaya just obliterated the entire ground theater.

This isn't just a weapon. It's a superweapon.

Each hex is 100 meters wide on the surface. Minor Correction, but you are still correct.

I am sure this isn't the first time people have committed orbital strikes (Not been around very long), but each bomber carries 14 of these rods. They would have to be fairly small. It is possible that they burn up on re-entry at the size they would be to replace the weapons that would otherwise be found on the bomber.

Do you think you might be reading a little much into it? I mean it's a pretend weapon based on a fictional real world concept. Outright calling it a super weapon when someone wants to use it responsibly is a bit of a stretch. I'm fairly certain they don't want to destroy the entire ground game.

I've taken the hit. Not wanting to write that the orbital strike wiped out the entire map (which is absolutely what would happen from that broken sub), and not especially caring about sandstorm wind shear, I had those fourteen rods wipe out exactly the critter they were after. As if they were, like, heavy laser cannon shots, which would be not totally outside the realm of reasonable for a ship that size. And no, [member="Oddball"], wholesale devastation was absolutely the intention there. No reading into it required.
