Lunarius stared out over the barren land his troops had militarized with trenches and fortified emplacements. Battle priest waved their Thuribles low to the ground spreading their holy smoke along the lines. They said prayers to Mephirium and blessed soldiers with the “Rite of Battle”. The chill wind whistled listlessly as it swept through the battlefield. Bannermen raised companies of soldiers to their designated attack vectors. Waving the flags of their cohorts high into the sky rallying the troops around them.
Lunarius had planned a three pronged blitz. The city would be assaulted on three fronts by a thousand troopers each. Everything was divided evenly between the assault lines. The AT-AT would be heading the charge. Tanks would support the walkers at the front while the AT-ST’s brought up the rear. A thousand troops would remain behind to keep the beachhead secure to cover in the event of a tactical retreat.
Lunarius listened to his bard and nodded as the man spoke. “Yes hail Mephirium,” he said while a priest mounted two battle banners on his back.
Sacred flags of one’s company. To lose your flag in battle was the ultimate disgrace. Which is why during battle Lunarius’s personal cohort would launch their flag into the middle of the field. Their zeal would drive them forward as they fought their hardest to be the first to reclaim the holy relic. The battle monks finished their prayers and took up position with their squads and began to sing gregorian chant. Thrubiles were replaced with blaster rifles and the priest robes swayed gracefully over their battle armor.
Lunarius took place at the head of his cohort and began to march. “Bard, play Mephiriums chosen,” Lunarius laughed joyfully.
Despite the chill wind the sun had managed to break through the ash stricken clouds of Mandalore and graced the holy Dominion army with it’s presence. The priest had conferred and taken it as a good omen. Mephirium fought with them today.
The chanting of the priest dwindled momentarily as the AT-AT’s great thundering footsteps drowned out all noise. They stomped forward and began to bombard the city with blaster cannons and high grade explosives. The men remained stoic as the first sounds of battle pierced the air and the priest chants continued. They feared no death for they knew their souls were eternal in His name. Lunarius’s legion was on the move.
