"Please give her a kiss for me," Valery said as she hurried her way into the living room of the Bastion, which they had parked at the New Cov Temple for a small training trip with their daughter. Valery was still tying up her ponytail while she walked over to her husband, and seemed to be in a hurry. She had gotten an emergency call and had to leave, which meant their original plans were off the table until her return. "And tell her I'm really sorry." She leaned in close, and kissed him on the lips but it was quick and rushed.

Even now, she sometimes still couldn't slow down a little.

"Love you, and I'll be back soon!" Unless stopped, Valery hurried out and to her X-wing.

...

Vera walked into the living room a few hours later, after she had woken up and gotten herself dressed in her Jedi robes. Her hair looked neat, her training lightsaber was clipped to her belt, and she seemed so ready for a day of training with her parents. But having already felt that her mother was missing, Vera just looked a bit bummed out and stared at her father.

"I don't like it when mommy leaves for so long," she said, and while that statement was generally true, there seemed to be more behind it. She was shifting around uncomfortably and looked very tired, even though she had seemingly slept for a very long time.

Kahlil blinked slowly as Vera came into the room and watched her for a moment. Then smiled softly. After everything that happened, this wasn't surprising. He reached out, gently patting the top of her head. Watching with some concern, but trying really not to make it sad or down anymore than it already had been.

"I know. She'll be back soon though, promise. You wanna play a game or such?"

Normally, Vera would have excitedly jumped at the idea of playing a game with her father, but this time she just stood still and watched him for a moment, through tired eyes. Then, still without a word said, she walked over and climbed atop the couch, so she could sit next to him.

Her mother not being here for the training they were going to do wasn't fun, but it wasn't the first time it happened. She knew her parents could be called upon at any moment. Something else made it a lot more difficult to her.

"I had a bad dream again. A vision." She looked at her dad and leaned against him with her side. "Can you help me with them?"
She looked at him with pleading eyes. Vera didn't want to play - she wanted to learn.

She wanted to show him.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil's smile dipped just a little. All he anted to do was protect his child. How could he not? But, well. Who they were, their life. There was only so much he could do. And now, the only part he could do was to help teach her. He let out a breath before nodding.

"Of course, Vera."

Vera began to smile a little again and reached for his hand, so she could gently tug him along. She hopped off the couch and looked over her shoulder, "It's easier in my room." She didn't really understand why on a deep level yet, but the memories and familiarity of her own bedroom made it easier to fall deeper into the Force. The Seers at the New Cov Temple once used the Serenity Springs for it, and she had her home.

Once they reached the little Noble's room, Vera plopped down on the ground and stared at her teddy bear for a moment. She let out a sigh and then waited for her dad to sit down.

"Okay, I can do this..." she grabbed her dad's hand again and followed the steps Alicio had taken with her to connect minds and open their minds up to each other. Only for her to feel the fortress mind of an Epicanthix.

"Daddy? Can you do it?" she asked. It was never an extremely pleasant thing to go into someone's consciousness, but Vera wouldn't feel good until she was able to share this with her father.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil sat beside her, watched patiently. Blinked, once he realized she was trying to connect with his mind. And chuckled. "I can try. I'm not the best with it, though." He didn't have to be. The boon of his species, and perhaps some for her. Some. The mixed blood wouldn't help her mind be as impenetrable as his own. So he squeezed her hand and reached out to let their minds connect.

"Let's begin."

Fire.

The moment Kahlil touched Vera's hands, he was siphoned into her mind, and surrounded by an inferno. He could feel the intense heat and smell the burning fuel, but it could never harm him. Up ahead in the center was a figure in ragged clothes who looked like he had been living on the streets for the last 20 years. But at his core, there was an intense hatred that fueled him.

Not a hatred for Kahlil, but also not hatred for Vera.

I keep seeing him

Vera's voice echoed through his mind, and the vision seemed almost to blur a little when the emotions in the young Noble grew in intensity. Not just because what she saw now was scary, but also because of what followed.

Her mother.

They were suddenly surrounded by darkness and couldn't see Valery at all, but her scream echoed through what seemed like an endless tunnel and sent shivers down her spine. It was followed by the rattling of chains, not too dissimilar from the memory Valery had shared about her time in captivity with slavers.

It's that sound that pulled them back out.

"I didn't see this when mommy left today, but I'm scared,"
she admitted, clearly bothered by it. She was scared, but there was no fear that her mother would be in trouble today.

Kahlil paused for a moment as he watched the vision. Or felt it, really. He knew the moment. It was one of many he wished Vera not to see until she was older. Her power, her vision, he knew she didn't have control over it. But he could still hope she wouldn't have to see her parent's suffering. But just because he didn't want it to happen, didn't mean he wasn't prepared for when it did. He smiled softly, gently squeezing Vera's hand.

"Visions are always scary, especially when they're hard to understand. But.. We don't know if they've happened, or will, or might. The future is always changing."

Vera nodded in response to what her father said, but her mind lingered longer at the what if scenario that this was a future vision of some kind. She had been right so many times before, so the idea of seeing either one of her parents get hurt was something she wanted to avoid. But was that even possible?

"Mom said the future moves. That it can change," Vera said, her eyes fixed on her father's. Valery had tried to explain it to her, but it wasn't easy. Sometimes, taking action based on visions was the wrong thing to do, while other times it's exactly what Jedi did after the Seers offered them guidance.

She couldn't tell that difference yet.

"How can I change it?" she then asked. "I want to help you, daddy, and mommy."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Don't focus on trying to change it. That's the fault of many, seeing a future they don't like and letting it become their obsession. Rather, be prepared for if it does come to pass. And be ready to help."

Perhaps there was something more he could say to help, but right now, no. Right now, she was too young to do anything more.

"Have you had any other visions like that?"

"But what if mommy does get hurt?" Vera asked, and a part of her clearly hoped that it would somehow make it alright to give up anything and everything just to help her mom. But as young as she was, Vera understood that the future was no easy thing to alter. It was always moving, and it was never clear.

So she just sighed and looked at her dad.

"If something bad happens to you or mommy, I will help." She smiled again and sat up straight to look brave, but the question that followed got her to frown just a bit. "No, just that one. The others are nice." They were about her family and the better things they'd do together.

But now that this was all cleared up, she began to wonder.

"Daddy? Can we still do training?" Mom wasn't here, but maybe he could teach her something?

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil just smiled and nodded. Reached up to pat the top of her head. It was very much like her to say that. Very much like her mother. She'd be a good Jedi one day. Hopefully one that could be taught to survive. His expression shifted just a little before he nodded. Training. Training was good. He wasn't going to be her Master, that much Valery and him had already decided. But right now?

"You have your lightsaber, yeah? Do you know what the eye of the storm means?"

"Is that when mommy gets angry?" Vera giggled, jumped up to her feet, and seemed to bounce a little again. Training always excited her, and now that she no longer felt the vision weighing her down, she was back to her bubbly self. The little Noble then reached for her training lightsaber, ignited the blue blade, and gently waved it around.

"Come on!"

She was quick to move to the door and ran off through the ship and outside towards the Temple. She wanted to reach the training grounds as quickly as possible and learn something new from her dad.

"What are we learning? Are you going to teach me how to-" she wildly swept her weapon around and grinned, as if she was trying to demonstrate what she wanted to learn.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil snorted despite himself. He really didn't want to make that a joke for Vera, but he couldn't help himself. Valery would have to forgive him this once. Then he rushed to follow after her, shaking his head.

"Yes, but no. I'm going to teach you how to use the Force to let you wield your blade. Hence, eye of the storm. No matter how dangerous the foe is, trust the Force, and it will see you through. Make sense?"

Vera was quick to reach the training grounds and took the position that her mother usually had whenever she trained with her dad. She had seen so many of their spars that she picked up on habits, but now it was her time to train. Her time in the ring. It was impossible for her not to be bouncy about it.

Her father soon joined and stepped into the training grounds with her to explain what the Eye of the Storm really meant. Her first guess seemed a lot more fun (and perhaps more accurate) but she nodded. "Just like with the visions! The Force guides me." She smiled proudly because it made her feel like she had just gotten an answer on a test right.

"Will that let me fig-" she stopped and pondered. "Will that let me defend people like you, daddy?" She had seen her father up against her mother and even other students — he always seemed defensive. Would this help her learn how to protect her mom and dad if she saw bad visions?

All of a sudden, Vera straightened her posture and seemed a lot more serious. Her father's patience with her mother's fiery determination burned in her multi-colored eyes.

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Yes."

Kahlil lifted his blade, igniting the cold green saber. No lethal edge with Padawans, let alone his own daughter. He simply dipped his head to her as she found her posture, her resolve. It was still surprising to see such a change in her, but a welcome one none the less.

"You know a lot about the Force already. But do you know how to trust it? To let it guide you, it's no easy thing. You must let go. And to let go is one of the most difficult things you can do."

"Only with visions," Vera answered almost instantly and confidently. To perceive a vision, she had to let go of everything and fall deeply into the Force — too deeply for lightsaber combat. "But..." She sighed and removed the training lightsaber from her belt. A blue blade of plasma at low intensity ignited, and she assumed a fairly basic but steady stance. Especially the placement of her feet seemed good.

Momma had been teaching too.

"What if I let go and I can't control it?" Vera then asked and as she did, she got an idea.

"Can you show me?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Users of Shii-Cho often have that issue. Letting themselves go to the Force can lead them too far. But that's not what I'm teaching you. You're not going to strike out." He lifted his blade towards her, calmly gripping the hilt of it with both hands.

"You're going to defend."

Then he stepped forward, bringing his blade down once in a quick strike for her.

"Okay."

Vera sounded as determined as always and raised up her blade as her father approached, preparing to defend herself. But in that instant before the clash, she saw something — she saw her dad, bringing down his weapon toward her. As it happened, she snapped back into the present and lifted up her own lightsaber.

Only for her arms to go a little too wobbly.

Bonk.

She blocked the strike at a good angle, but her own lightsaber gently tapped the top of her head. Vera's first instinct was to immediately attack, just like her mom would, but then she remembered. Defend.

Vera hopped back and raised her blade. "Again!" she called out, not wanting to settle for anything less than perfect during this lesson with her father. She wanted to show him what she could do.

"Don't make it easy!"

Kahlil_Div2.png

Don't make it easy, huh?

Kahlil chuckled as he slipped forward, brought his blade around again. Faster this time to send it crashing against her own. She wouldn't be strong enough to halt his blade, but that wasn't even the point.

"Feel, don't think. Your visions will show you what happens, but your body will move on it's own. The Force will guide you, just trust it to do so."
