A United Jedi Order

Personally, I was going for a singular Jedi Order with sub-groups rather than the United Nations, but the majority has the power here.

The GA is on board, at the least. Time to work with the rest.

Broad is the word, my friend. And like I said in an earlier post, forcing things doesn't work. So yes, slow. Willing. Everyone deserves to be making an informed decision.

Now I know factions have been mentioned, but what about those independent Jedi? Worry not, the JAN has always been there for them, too. An area of federal jurisdiction, perhaps?

I share the same reservations as [member="Coci Heavenshield"] and [member="Kei Amadis"], but I am very interested in this concept.

ICly, Thurion would not shy away from a united front of Jedi - part of being Jedi means being able to work together, after all. It's in their mantra.

OOCly, there is the fear of losing one's identity if all were to fall under the same banner, but I don't think it'll happen. It shouldn't happen, at the very least. If you stay true to your faction as you would otherwise then interacting with other Jedi factions could only lead to fun times.

As for leadership, I don't see the need for a Supreme Leader to rule them all, PC or NPC. The High Council would already consist of the heads and most prominent members of each faction, so have them all be equal to one another and let majority rule instead.

Concerning those who do not count themselves as Jedi (Dark, Rogue, Neutral etc.), they would still fall under the policy of whichever faction they're part of.

I'd like just to point out one thing - does such an assembly make any IC sense?
So, to explain this, I made this tentative diagram of some people I RPed with...I hope I got the order right, for most of them.

So the question is - where is the cut-off point? From which character to the right does the Sith/Dark Jedi start? This, I believe, is a valid point, especially when this translates to IC. I remember we had an issue in GR when a dark-sider wanted to join the military. Somehow, this was non-conflicting IC, as per FAs. Like someone already mentioned, some FUs who are currently together with Jedi use the Dark side. Others use radical methods Jedi would never use. How will this mesh, in any capacity, with Jedi? I fear we can't have this large Jedi cap over us, without fear of being hypocritical. When Tionne invades people's minds its okay, when Vornskr does it, its not okay...

Is this not what [member="Corvus Raaf"] is trying to do with the Jedi order?

IC I think Mantic would like to see this happen but he will most likely soon consider it too "relaxed" than he consider proper jedi perspective ;)

OOC - interesting idea with a "high council" - Ithink it is important to give all aspects of the jedi room to be represented there or the diversity will be hard to keep track off.
Maybe a council of NPCs and when decissions comes to voting, the faction runs a ooc poll for the decission which is then written out IC by faction leadership controlling the npcs. Just a thought.

[member="Mantic Dorn"] - In a way, yes, but the group that recently split from the Republic is only the parent faction of all these other gatherings. It is not entirely linked to all the big groups, and vice verse.

This will fix that.

I agree.

If we can get the primary faction leaders in a chat of some sort, rough out some things, and then move to an open forum conversation, I think we'd be at a good start.

My roleplaying skype is: Jaaaayday. Add it if you like.

I like it, but i keep seeing the word "prominent members" or such thrown around, and honestly I lose interest. I guess I'm trying to see benefits gained from this that couldn't also be gained from just not being a dick about things and working together.

Allow me to clarify the reasons why the forums of the Jedi Academy Network are already a preferential choice to host this.

1) The structure is already in place, and I and [member="Kira Talith"] are ready and more than willing to adjust the forums, and change what's necessary to suit needs. Lightsiders from the multiple factions already look there, and it is known as a place that facilitates the coming together of these far-flung folk, and doesn't exclude those that are not 'pure Jedi'.

2) It's already ground that's unbiased. No one group is favoured over the other. While I and countless others applaud the move [member="Corvus Raaf"] has made in defining some separation between the Republic and the Jedi group that used to exclusively belong to it, there is still Republic bias in the forums she's set up, and there's still OOC grief and sourness across the board when it comes to the former Republic-exclusive Jedi Order. There's still more work to be done. No offense intended, guys, but them's the facts.

3) Membership. The J.A.N. forums already have the majority of this site's light-siders in its memberlist, as far as I can tell.

4) It's owned and run primarily by me, OOCly, and I (ICly, as Ilias) hold no head position anywhere, nor am I a "prominent member" of any lightside group. I have no designs on being a member of any councils. No desire to aggrandize myself. Just a Jedi, ladies and gentlemen, doing a Jedi's work. Just a group administrator that means well (and possibly has an addiction to being helpful) and generally a voice of reason. I just want to see this work, guys, and remain a going concern once it's in business.

Now, why I bring up #4 at all is the separation of OOC and IC "positions of power" (a phrase I laugh at because I'm just a friendly faction administrator and willing workhorse, but it's a phrase everyone understands). At any rate, OOC position does not mean IC power, and it should remain as such.

That's all. :)
