disney aka the death of star wars

Ok wow, your serious about this topic.... Ok?

Well to be 100% with you, Acturally the map this forum uses is based off the Galaxy Atlas from the EU source books, pretty much my "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy". Also, nearly 65% of the species in the movies are show, but never mentioned, so will they changed that, or just skim over their identities. So saying the new timeline won't interfere with the base line of this forum is kinda hopeful, at the least.

But your right, I did mention that I'd be interested in seeing if the forum changes. But lets be real, This forum is always changing, new members work hard and it changes, old members stay or return and build better stories and world for the newcomers to enjoy. So again, saying the new Timeline won't change the forum outline is most likely wrong.

There will always from this day forward be those who stick to the old EU and those who will embrace the New Timeline, and then there us, in the grey enjoying every little Star Wars we can squeeze out of them.

The Galaxy Map is done every month, or every other month, by the board owner, Tefka, and was modified from the Atlas map, which I am currently looking at. The Atlas map is a square grid, this is a hex map. Yes, there are similarities, but multiple canon planets are not where they would be on the atlas (like Empress Teta, for example).

Anyways, I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has asked all of these questions before when Disney originally made this announcement months ago - the answer was that very little, if anything, would be changed. If I wanted to spend the time looking for the discussion that was had about it, I could show you where it was stated.

We do not follow Disney or Lucas canon. If it was ever listed as canon, at any given point, it is considered canon in the factory and the codex unless stated otherwise.

The above is not my opinion, it is how it is. New canon stuff from rebels is canon, old canon stuff from EU, like Darth Revan and such are (regrettably) still canon. We aren't going to make everyone throw out their characters they've written for the last several years just because there's a new history being considered the 'real' canon and not 'legends' canon.

The only changes you will see are that the new stuff will be mixed with the old, we aren't going to purge older stuff.

On this website I've seen Sith Lords blow up the Senate Building about 4 times. Each time the security is just as laughable as the last. On this website I've seen Padawan's journey to Ilum to recreate The Gathering about 6 times. Each time the Ilum Temple is described and plundered differently. I've seen Force Masters describe how they used custom applications of the Force about 1000 times. Each time the manifestation is wildly-insanely-ridiculously different. Nothing about Chaos is similar to canon(s).

On this website we've blown up Corellia, recreated custom Celestials, journeyed to Hell, and even killed off 99% of the living organisms in the galaxy with a Handwavium Gulag Plague. Yet, people still think "The Republic" is the same government from canon, ask why the Sith cultists own Coruscant, forget to notice that the galaxies ecosystem has changed dramatically in 800 years, and many still believe that new ruins would exist in pristine condition all the way back from from 10 ABY. It's almost inconceivable how different this website is from the rest of the genre. Star Wars Chaos is such a far cry from anything in the real Star Wars Universe that sometimes it makes my head spin. Comparing this website to the real Star Wars Genre is like asking Harrison Ford to compare himself to Han Solo. He's just going to laugh at you and so will everybody else in the room.

The only thing you can control about CHAOS is how your character reacts inside of this new universe. For everything else, there's Mastercard ..erm, Handwavium. :D :p

I personally am not at all thrilled with flushing the EU. It was 35 frakkin years of established written canon we all accepted as such. Now, with a simple press conference, Disney rebrands these books as non-canon and declares that the new movies are going to be the new canon and that it will be in a new direction.... I don't trust Disney with star wars. They may have done a fine job with Marvel, but they actually honoured the comics for the most part. They will make Star Wars more child-friendly and load it with kiddy humour. Already, the have completely turned the mechanics of how lightsabres work and on its head with the crossgaurd thing... (that's an argument for another post that I will happily debate people on). Among the actual childish things they have put in is that Astromech droid head attached to a rolling Football. What the HELL? That isn't practical at all and looks more like a child's toy! I can't take it seriously.

Finally, another major gripe I have is that J.J. "lens flare" Abrams is the director. beware the lens flare and the extreme emphasis on all the spaceship special effects that we didn't so much need in previous films. it's one thing to throw in aerobatic manoeuvres during a fight scene, but it should NOT be over done.

Wow... I'm starting to think I'm really bad at getting my point across.

Anyways, your right, I've only been on this forum for less then a year. The sheer small and little changes this forum has gone though in that time is mind blowing, going back farther, it's just difficult. People received millions of Canon Items, blow up planets, invasions of planets I've never even heard of. So to say the change would effect the big picture or interaction between writers is a bit over zealots, that I messed up on stating.

But again, all I'm saying is I'm interested, "IN A FEW YEARS" if this forum will pick up the old timeline, events, planets, and species, OR if it will evolve and change their baseline to the new events, planets, and species. Hopefully their aren't much differences in the two, I'd find it a lot of fun to try and add the two together and see how that works, then again that's probably not the easiest way to work it out. I mean, right now, the Forum defiantly has both feet in the EU Timeline, but that's it, every other part of this forum is completely Non-Canon. I'm just interested in everything that may happen from here on out is all.

(PS, Jay- really enjoyed the comparison to Harrison and Han Solo to what I was asking, really made me laugh at my now Dumb question.)

(PPS, Braith- Thanks for the link, really helped answer my original question, I'll stop my ranting now. )

I have to somewhat aggree with you. I mean judging from what little i have seen of the new star wars (being the trailers) They already messed up the R 2 units (assumingly that they are still R2 units) And made the lightsaber look like a sifi midevasl bastard sword. I'm holding ontop hope that with the original cast in it that they might pull through but creativity seems to have gone down quite a bit

  1. It's an astromech droid (or another kind of droid altogether), R2 Units are a specific kind of astromech droid - and the only one you see almost throughout the entire series is R2D2.
  2. It is a completely different lightsaber. It is intended to be different than the traditional one.

thats all good but it seems now more based off of mideval sword then actually something straight from the creative mind. I'm not saying its bad, just that the creativity seems to have gone down compaired to the other star wars

[member="Sakon Xarabia"]

Sooo making something new is less creative than... just sticking with what already exists?

Furthermore, it is not as if a single blade of light in the shape a sword was all that creative in the first place.

It is when they base it off of the mideval bastard sword when before star wars was nearly all origional. Not saying all change is bad but when its based off of already made things then its not as creative. As far as my knowlage goes lightsaber (or related swords) went used really anywhere before lucus made them in star wars. but the design it has now isn't purely from the imagination anymore.

It wasn't. Star Wars takes a lot of influences from the old Flash Gordon movie serials from the 1930's, and Akira Kurosawa's samurai films.

I dig the new lightsaber. It looks like a more brutish weapon. Nice contrast to the relatively elegant original sabers.
