The Last War
div-orange.png
A new war has been declared.

After many years of working together, the Galactic Alliance and Mandalorian Enclave find themselves at war. During the Second Great Hyperspace War, the two factions, among others, had brought about the destruction of the Brotherhood of the Maw, but now it seems as if those bonds have been forgotten, as they're building up their forces to draw the Galaxy back into another conflict.

But not all have forgotten.

Realizing that much of the current New Jedi Order wasn't active during the last war, Valery Noble Valery Noble has decided to host an excursion to Jedha to discuss this great war that had torn apart the Galaxy and left several planets destroyed. As a way to remember for some, and as a method of instruction others about what to expect in the upcoming war.

Jedha.png

Objective I - Remembrance

Jedi of the New Jedi Order are invited to join Valery Noble Valery Noble and others who were active during the war, on the planet Jedha, the planet that was first attacked after the Maw's surprise assault on Coruscant. Learn about what happened during the war, face the hardships that the Jedi at the time were forced to confront, and pay respect to those who brought about a time of peace.

A peace that's now threatened once more.

Giaca.jpg

Objective II - Remnants
While the Maw has been long defeated, many of its fighters and sympathizers survived the war. Some retreated into distant parts of the Galaxy to pursue their own schemes, but others lingered closer to where they once held power. On the planet Giaca, deep within its dense forests, several camps have been detected rumored to host former Maw units. In the last several months, unidentified ships have been visiting the planet more frequently, and reports of people disappearing have began to spread in the region.

Soldiers, Jedi or agents of the SIA - infiltrate the forest and bring them to justice.

The location Valery had chosen on Jedha would perhaps be odd to some people. She wasn't in one of the cities, and seemed just about as far from civilization as one could get. Where she stood, the SIA had once built a blacksite with crucial information the intelligence agency acquired about the Maw and other projects in the region.

During the battle, Valery had protected this blacksite until the SIA itself blew it up and nearly killed her in the process. Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble , at the time her boyfriend but fallen to the Dark Side to confront his father, had for the first time tapped into their dyad to be by her side across the stars.

He had carried her body away from the flames and saved her life.

"Alright, once we're all here and settled in, I'll explain a few things and answer any questions you guys might have. Please, don't be afraid to ask anything. War is a nasty thing, and I'm more than willing to share what it was like, and tell you what truly happened." She turned to those who had decided to join her, and offered them a faint smile.

This was important, right before another war.

As always, where there was education and learning, BB-610 soon followed. Always eager to broaden his understanding of the galaxy around him, the droid had happily accepted to follow Valery in an effort to inform their newest recruits of the past; it was only when history was learnt that it couldn't be repeated, after all, and with the encroaching war against the Mandalorians, there was no better time.

BB-610 himself had been part of the Second Great Hyperspace War, however he'd spent much of it fighting for the side of the dark. Having been all to accepting of anybody that would take him in, the astromech served under The Eternal Empire, blissfully ignorant towards the greater moralities that came with such a thing. He fought without purpose, without code or personal affairs; he simply followed those that tolerated his existence after years of abandonment, and those people just so happened to be Imperial.

As such, more information regarding the Galactic Alliance's perspective during the war was much appreciated and endlessly fascinating. He'd been across all corners of the galaxy, finding himself in places droids like him didn't belong, and it was only after he felt abandoned by the Eternal Empire that he found Valery. From that moment forward, BB-610 fought the rest of the war alongside the Alliance, spending the remainder of his years with the love, purpose, and friendship he always wanted.

Rolling up beside Valery Noble Valery Noble , he chirped, wobbling happily as he turned to those that had attended. BB-610 had the luxury of having recorded every last second of his life, and thus provided a first-hand glimpse into the war itself. Whirring up his holoprojector, he was eager to provide the visual aid to any question directed to the Jedi.

"Please, don't be afraid to ask anything."

Loomi actually managed to muster up her courage this time. She had been thinking a lot about this recently, what with the new war on the horizon.

"Why... why did they do it?"

It was a simple question. Naive, perhaps a tad innocent, but there was a clear desire to get to the root of the past conflict. She hadn't been there, or really understood the Maw for that matter. She couldn't help but lower her antennae over her face afterwards, however, nervously shifting back a little. There was a bit of recognition, perhaps even self awareness, that such a question was probably childish. All this talk of war meant that there was no more of that, right?

"Th-that was a silly question," the Godoan muttered to herself, perhaps thoughtlessly out loud.

It was hard to think these days. So much was happening, it was all impossible for her scattered mind to keep track of it all.

Celendis let out a slow, drawn-out sigh as she bent down close to the ground, letting her fingertips lightly brush over the grass and dirt of Giaca. While the major threat of the Maw had been diminished, splinter factions and remnants still plagued the Galactic Alliance's borders in the Unknown Regions of space - a threat that needed to be kept under close watch lest the Maw were to return regrouped and under new leadership. Celendis had been tasked with tracing such remnants as resources were starting to be allocated elsewhere in order to support the war effort against the rising Mandalorian Enclave. War was inevitable, though Celendis wished it were not so; so many lives extinguished or sent to perish - and for what purpose?
Her ears perked up at the sound of distant but still relatively close rustling, her closed eyes turning slightly in the direction of the expected company she was soon to have.

There was no denying the way that Colette's nerves had seemed to tense up since the news reached her that war had been declared. She had been blissfully spared the experience of seeing the chaos of the battlefront since her time with the Jedi but even she knew that the day would eventually come when obligation would call upon her to truly and willingly make the choice between the pacifist's oath she took to her tribe back home and the unspoken oath she undertook as part of the New Jedi Order to protect those that lived within the Alliance's borders.

Because that was what this was all really about after all. As someone that wasn't a willing participant as much as someone who felt honorbound to partake, Colette's frustration with the whole situation seemed almost palpable. It was there in the way that her brows furrowed and her arms crossed. This fight wasn't her fight unless she made it hers, it was a stupid and pointless fight, but even she understood that when a bully with a big stick needed to be put down.

Only problem was that this particular bully had been put in its place time and time again, repeatedly, throughout most of recorded history and yet still never stopped to consider that maybe it wasn't the galaxy at large that was the problem, maybe they were. Maybe they weren't the victims as much as the town idiot who kept picking fights that they just couldn't end.

The more that Colette thought about this whole thing with the Mandalorians, the Epicanthix, the way that some truly idiotic, dumbass dimwits lived their lives and decided to call it a 'culture', the more she began to regret ever stepping out of that cave on her homeplanet and ascending into the Jedi ranks.

Her hands balled into fists and she let in a few more deep breaths before she calmed down again.

These thoughts didn't feel quite like her own, this idea of outright hating a people she had never met before was terrifying. And yet at the same time it was a sensation that was hard not to dwell upon as if it was finally time to uncork that one bottle she had kept hidden away that contained all the stuffed up dark thoughts that she had pushed away since arriving on Coruscant.

Despite Valery clearly asking for questions and Colette having many, the kid instead elected to be silent. She needed to get a grip on these emotions before they got the grip on her. No need to jump straight to hate and suffering unless she could help herself.

Thankfully Loomi managed to get a question in.

Because it is what rabid dogs do before being taken out back behind the shed and shot. Colette thought to herself as she continued her struggle to keep calm.

She just had to focus. Focus on the breathing and the act of maintaining a calm center. The rest would follow eventually. Hopefully.

Katherine had always been curious about the Second Great Hyperspace War. Particularly in the Galactic Alliance’s conflict with the Brotherhood of the Maw. Both the Alliance and the Jedi had numerous wars with the Sith in the past, but it seemed that the one with the Maw had been especially brutal in comparison.

So when Valery announced she was going to host an excursion to Jedha, to discuss and remember the fallen, Katherine had jumped at the chance.

Reading about it was one thing, but learning about it from those that had actively fought during it, was a whole different fount of knowledge.

The winged Padawan walked amongst the gathered group, her eyes looking around the location. Admittedly, Katherine had expected it to be one of the cities, or maybe a temple. But she knew Valery wouldn’t have brought them here without a reason.

Katherine glanced over as Loomi decided to be the first to speak. Of what little she knew of the Godoan, she wasn’t often the first to chime in. But it was clear the impending war was having an effect on all the Padawans.

It’s not a silly question, Loomi.” Katherine shook her head, offering her fellow Jedi a smile. “For those of us that have never really seen war, or had to directly participate in one, it’s difficult to understand why someone would want to start one.

"I'm with you."

Aiden's deep voice reached out to the Jedi Knight he could only see after he was practically running straight into her. Giaca's forests were notoriously dense, which made it hard to scout without getting dangerously close, and easily alerted people to your approach. Not that he was worried the Jedi would have swung her lightsaber at him — she had likely sensed his presence long before she heard him, and he liked to think that he didn't appear as a threat to Jedi in the Force.

"Aiden Rennek, I'm with the Marines deployed to assist the Jedi here," he then added to introduce himself.

"Aerial reconnaissance could barely see a thing down here, but from what I can tell, there are at least a dozen or two people in the camp up ahead." He kept the volume of speech low, though it wasn't easy to hide his baritone voice. Aiden then rested his sniper rifle against his shoulder and turned his green eyes into the distance.

The group of Jedi felt like an oasis to Ko within the chilly desert moon. The collective light they exuded stuck out in this remote part of Jedha. The Kel Dor padawan had not seen any of the conflict of the war first hand. Just the large ripple effects of it from his time in the agricultural corps as the Galactic Alliance was brought into total war along with other galactic super powers. For once it seemed like so much of The Galaxy was united. Even if it wasn’t for the most noble of reasons.

Similarly to how he feels now, back then he shoulder a lot of guilt. While his fellow Jedi were in a brutal war against marauders from the Unknown Regions he was away toiling in the endless fields of Nubia. Working as hard as he could, practically to his detriment just to not feel like he was lazy jedi washed up. Ko recalled the words of an ancient Jedi master, who expressed that there was no shame in a Jedi trading their lightsaber for a hoe, and that there were more ways for a Jedi to help people than by leading an army. But those wise words never really made him feel like he wasn’t a washout.

If not for a certain Corellian Jedi, Ko would likely still be there on Nubia. Now in hindsight he missed the relative peace he was able to experience in the rural core world, and the friends I made there. Now the peace his friends had worked so hard for was being threatened, and Ko had no desire to see that peace slip away easily because of a cult of uppity Mandalorians. Whom he's already almost lost his life too.

There with some of his fellow padawans he felt himself brought back to the present because of Loomi’s question. It was a simple but good question, and one that Ko didn’t personally know the answer to. When he was younger he never stopped to think about why The Brotherhood of The Maw did what they did. Back then his black and white views were even more extreme. What mattered to him was suffering they brought and subjected countless people to.

Ko felt a little sorry for his Godoan friend as she muttered to himself. But he remained quiet and waited for either Master Noble or one of the other Jedi veterans around to answer her question.

War. War never changes. Or at least that's what Shan had always thought. People would always fight. Innocents would always get hurt. It was almost like it was a part of the natural order of things, but that didn't mean Shan had to accept it. He wasn't a fighter. Far from it, but he was going to protect people as well as he could. He had to get better at protecting people though. For now however, he was more focused on learning as much as he could from Valery Noble Valery Noble . His mind was swirling with different thoughts and questions butt instead of asking them right now, he turned his attention towards the others.

Loomi Loomi 's question, whilst she thought it was stupid was actually quite important. "Don't worry Loomi. It's always important to see things from other people's views. So asking that kind of question is important...We need to know why people are willing to fight, so that we can know how to stop with it, or deal with it." At that, the Mirialan gave his little friend a small smile. It was easy to forget how stressful this might be for some of the other Jedi. Shan was used to having to grow up fast, but that didn't necessarily mean the others were used to that. It was a shame. There were plenty of Padawans that were younger than him, but they wouldn't be able to enjoy their childhood...

Though he shook his head to snap at that thought, smiling in the direction of Katherine Holt Katherine Holt as well. "Katherine is right. Though...sometimes, I suppose people don't need a reason to go to war. It's...natural to them." The Mirialan rubbed his chin in thought at that. His...disgust towards the Mandalorians had interestingly enough started to die down, the more he learned about the culture. He couldn't place blame on an entire culture, especially when the Padawan was willing to give members of the Sith an extra chance...Instead of focusing on that thought however, he just turned his attention towards Colette Colette . The only member of the party currently that he didn't know. He just gave them a small smile alongside a thumbs up, as if he was trying to encourage them to speak up.

JEDHA

Things were going to get worse.

For Makko, who had been through enough pain during his training, it was a bitter pill to swallow. He had been on the periphery of many battles. In most of them he had stayed away from the front lines. In many of them he had been hurt.

It had taken Denon and becoming embroiled in a gang turf war to fully hone his skills. That was something he would always feel ashamed of.

If he could be motivated to throw himself back there, then he had to find the strength to stand and fight when so much more was at stake. For everyone in the Alliance.

He had been horrified taking his first life. Starling had forced him to face up to that necessity. He would accept what he felt, the nervous trepidation that crawled up the base of his spine. Makko would put that aside and do what was necessary, what was right.

In true war he might have to be in the middle of an endless, grindstone of battle until one side broke. It could be weeks in the field, the sound of mandalorian artillery, the sight of dark silhouettes in the sky as starships vyed for position.

He was glad to have mentors, colleagues and real friends around him to face it. He glanced around briefly, accepted what was missing and accepted those feelings too.

Makko would head back and prepare for the coming battles, but for now he would listen.

This was not a place Minerva thought to ever come. Yet here she is, leaning on a stone wall some distance away from the assembled Jedi to the left side. On this occasion Minerva wasn't wearing her helmet but had it latched to her belt but otherwise kept the rest of her armor and gear on. She silently observed and listened to the conversation that was already beginning with her arms folded together over the chest. Her usually fierce expression now bore self-reflection.

She had fought in the last few years of the Second Hyperspace War first with the Enclave then the Alliance. After Exegol she suspected the possibility of another war would come but never had Minerva considered it would be wrought by her former compatriots. The warrior turned away her gaze to the floor at the side.

I was foolish and ignorant. It's not the Sith nor the Jedi who are the Mandalorians' worst enemies…it is ourselves.

That revelation was more grievous to her soul than any wounds she suffered in combat over the years.

Objective I - Remembrance

No, it wasn’t.

I wasn’t planning on speaking up, just sit there and listen and maybe offer a little bit of guidance myself, but the kid needed some encourgement. I need to be careful though and not overshadow Leadership here, I mean this was Master Noble, “The Sword of the Jedi”. She was as “B.A.” as “B.A.” can be! I wonder if she recognizes me from when her and her husband came to that party. Meh, conversation for another time. Hope Mother or Father talked to her about me, and my secret.

Heh, some secret. I just don’t want people treating me differently because of my last name, at least not until I make my own. Lying? Maybe a little, but I need to be my own man, right?

Hooah Easy to spot a “jarhead”. No disrespect intended at all, Marines as a whole are tough, and are more than capable anywhere. They often get misunderstood as crayon eaters, an unfair jab at their intellect, but they are needed out there often first in a skirmish. I mean, I won’t ever go looking for a fight, but if I am ever in one, Marines are great friends to have. I know this from my time in the Antarian Rangers, not to mention the King’s guard and Midvinter.

Sorry to interrupt, everyone. I’m “Aric”. Jedi Knight and honored to be among you.

Noooo, that wasn’t laying it on thick at all.

Liam wasn’t entirely sure what he was doing here. He was not part of the Galactic Alliance or the Jedi Order. But the Jedi were good enough to rescue him from Thule and see to his physical recovery. So when Valery Noble had invited him to this event of remembrance, Liam decided it would be very rude of him to refuse. Besides he was still having mood swings and being around a bunch of Jedi might be a good thing to avoid ending up like his father or worse. He couldn’t depend on the keepers of the holocron to help him in everything.

So Liam agreed to travel with Valery and the other Jedi. Perhaps learning about what the New Jedi Order had gone through in the war with the Brotherhood of the Maw would allow Liam to make his own decision about the worthiness of the Order. It was certainly not the same one that his many times Great Grandmother was warning him about. Times were different now. Just because the Jedi and Alliance were looking in the face of another war didn’t mean that they were like the old Jedi.

Liam took a seat off to the side as Valery started things off. Liam had barely got himself comfortable when young woman took Valery up on her offer to answer questions. The antennaed young Jedi asked what Liam considered a very reasonable question. Finding a reasonable answer might be more difficult. Whether that was the reason the young Jedi followed the question with a bit of a retraction or some other nerves, Liam was interested to see if Valery would answer.

Several other young Jedi in attendance supported the question asker. Some philosopher had said there were no such things as bad questions. Liam wasn’t sure that he agreed completely, but he knew that the one that was swirling around the audience might have been a bit vague, but it was not silly. For now Liam sat quietly amongst the Jedi and hoped that some of his own questions would be answered without having to voice them. He was an outsider here. Invited perhaps, but these other folks deserved their answers first. He wasn’t on the precipice of war. He just happened to be in the vicinity of Thule and made a foolish decision to rush to action. Now he was in a place where he could learn from something other than a glowing box.

Arriving on Giaca, Lily had gotten the chance to work on the mission that was meant to be dealing with still loyal Mawites working on the dense forest world. It was a chance that Lily was keen to take up, wanting the practical experience of fighting Sith loyalists. It was an opportunity she could not afford to lose, as Lily valued practical experiences like this mission more than the lectures on the past. Though she doubted a lecture from Master Valery Noble would be boring, it would just not be the experience that best highlighted what Lily would bring to the table as a Jedi.

Tying her hair into a loose ponytail behind her, Lily was pleased to have her own personal Lightsaber now, not a simple training saber. She was keen to demonstrate she was worthy of this large step forward. Though she still had her doubts about the whole thing, the Force was not always the ally that she wanted it to be. As she walked forward, she noticed that there were two people already talk, clearly having signed up for the mission. Heading over to them, Lily realised the taller, male figure was the infamous Aiden Rennek.

The boyfriend of her Master.

"
Greetings both. I'm Lily Decoria, Jedi Padawan." Lily introduced herself politely with a big smile and a nod of her head. "I have heard plenty about you Aiden, Master Sal-Soren speaks highly of you." Looking over to the marine and giving a knowing smirk, since she wasn't sure how much he would know of her. But was curious to hear what secrets about Lily, Briana shared with Aiden.

She'd been told the forest was a dense thing that held shadows able to hide someone within visual distance. She hadn't expected visual distance to be the tip of your nose however as she adjusted the HUD of her helmet. Thankful for that as she reached out with her other senses to figure out an exact spot to find the rest of those gathering for the camp raid.

Highlighting the ground ahead of her, tracking the barely present trail left by a few others on the way to the hostile camp.

Even heavily clad, she was almost silent.

Aside from the occasional twig that snapped beneath her quickening pace. She hadn't wanted to get lost the first time. Or second. But with the woods being stupidly dense, it played havoc on the senses in every way. The angry mutterings of her own thoughts pushed down for the time being as she tapped her hip once more, finding both sabers present as a reassuring measure in case she had stumbled ahead of group.

Instead arriving in time to see Lily speaking to two others as she came out of the brush with her hands up before anyone got any wise ideas.

"Lily," Throwing a considering look to the marine as she filtered through the audio she'd picked you in her helmet. A grin hidden behind the helmet as she placed her hands on her hips. "Aiden. Lossa Darcuhl. You aren't gonna shoot us in the exhaust port if we run in, right?"

"Why... why did they do it?"
Jonyna had seen war before. A different war. A different time. To her, War was not something that was fought on fields of honor, or anything fanciful like that. No. It was fought in backwater jungles and fields by desperate freedom fighters. By ragtag cells of rebels who all had very different ideas of what freedom would entail.

And so, she smiled to Loomi Loomi . "That's a great question. In fact, I've got another. How'd this whole thing start?"

To her, that was the most important question. A war like what she had been described, a Great War, one of that scale had to have a powder keg behind it to kick up. She wanted to know what that was...

To see a Mandalorian in these times was a strange thing in GA space. One would assume them an enemy combatant, but Drego was quite the opposite. His armor had markings of the GADF, even a painted on symbol of his old unit. Maw still around? That was a personal slight against the soldier. While he certainly wasn't going to re-enlist anytime soon, he was more than happy to work alongside the GA's finest to take down some stragglers from the last war he fought in.

In this case, a handful of jedi and a sniper who seemed poised as their covering fire. Good crowd, he figured.

"I'll head in as well." He gruffed out, the voice of a man nearing his 40s came through the speaker of his helmet. "You Jedi need some semblance of backup on the front line. Those maw types don't fark around."

"I have heard plenty about you Aiden, Master Sal-Soren speaks highly of you."

Cross-branch gossip? That wasn't what Driver was expecting to hear today. He couldn't help but chuckle under his helmet. He hadn't been with the groundpounders in some time now. The SIA had much of his attention these days, or at least he liked to pretend that it did. Task Force Y wasn't seeing much deployment with the Mandalorians being the main threat, so he had to diversify his pool of work.

That was fine by him. He just needed an objective.

"Wasn't expectin' everyone to know eachother," Driver muttered rubbing at his shoulder. "Uh, name's Driver."

He felt so out of touch. Was this what it was like to be old?

"I'll head in as well."

"Let's slow our roll, hot shot," the clone piped up. "We could go in guns blazing, but lets see if we can't take a different approach..."

Driver clicked on his Vambrace, procuring a small recon drone that was concieled within the piece of tech. The agent stepped towards the front of the group, presenting it for the rest of the party to see.

"Recon drone," he explained. "Got it rigged to my helmet. I can send it into the fog to take a look around, see if I can't get a more accurate number for hostile contacts."

Before they all ran in and got themselves shot. The pink one at least seemed concerned about friendly fire, though it was perhaps more in a teasing manner. Regardless, it was on the table now.

"Now this, is a party." Zinder had finally linked up with the rest of those attached to storming the camp. Scattergun held in both hands as his visor scanned the crowd.

Handful of Jedi, and plenty of people that seemed to rightly know their way around the dangerous end of a Blaster. He'd of shed a tear in joy if it hadn't been for who they were after. The mere mention of the Maw remnants had him itching to storm the camp guns blazing. He had the perfect tool to announce their arrival as well, even if the Launcher made him stick out like a sore thumb.

His only worry now was making sure he didn't splash the Jedi with it also.

Visor facing the little drone that had been presented to them for recon as Zinder shrugged.

"I'd at least like to know if they are properly hunkered down. Numbers a nice addition though. I say send it before we go." Shouldering the scattergun with a look around the group.

"Rather not go into this completely blind."
