Dhasias Vunumera
Sith Assassin
Vinyata turned around to face the battle, now raging in full force in the skies and on the ground of Korriban. Fighters weaved and dashed; gunships unloaded their deadly payloads, star destroyers hammered away at each other with turbolasers, missiles, and ion cannons, walkers and tanks and infantry were ferociously locked in combat. Taking a deep breath in, Vinyata relished the dark side, which was strongest on Korriban and grew even stronger because of the battle. The explosions, the fighting, the hate all flowed through her as she built up her force energy. Then, gazing out while she stood on the steps of the massive Sith Academy, she made several quick tactical assessments and pulled out her datapad, which rendered a 3D holographic display containing real-time updates on the battle raging around her. Serpent Legion’s superior defensive encampments were paying dividends, as they mowed down waves of Republic soldiers. The massive cliff/plateau structure that they occupied provided her troops with the ability to call down firepower on any Republic soldiers in the Valley of the Dark Lord or on the approaches to the Academy plateau. Their positions were not invincible however.
The cliff opposing the Academy plateau had been cut off when the bridge was destroyed. The cliff was long and extended several miles straight into the distance. The Academy was the highest structure as far as the eye could see. The cliffs that held her Legion their supporting gun batteries and Imperial allies were situated behind the Academy plateau and ran from a small section that parallel the cliff opposite of the Academy that had been connected by the now gone bridge all the way over to a vantage point that extended slightly past the eastern most part of the Valley of the Dark Lords. It was a commanders dream, in a planet containing many, cliffs, plateaus, hills and valleys, Vinyata had been able to find a huge cliff that towered above all local natural structures and provided the highest ground for her troops. That didn’t mean that the Serpent Legion and their supporting Imperial allies could hold out forever. Republic forces were redoubling their efforts to eliminate the Legion’s tactical advantage. Columns of walkers and tanks, along with formations of speeders and infantry supported by artillery were making their way toward the cliffs her legion was encamped on. The Republic was starting to call in massive artillery strikes as well as air-support, and was trying to maneuver a Star Destroyer into position for an orbital bombardment, which was currently held up by an Imperial Star Destroyer. If the Republic managed to accurately train their artillery and even get a Star Destroyer into position, they could pin down her soldiers long enough for the ground forces to scale the cliffs, eliminating the Legion’s high-ground advantage. Vinyata had cut off access to the Academy, but not to her soldiers positions.
Snapping back into reality, Vinyata looked at the recently blown up bridge. Through the falling shrapnel, rocks, and Republic troopers she could make out a falling green Nautolan. Running to the edge of the plateau, she hoped to get a closer look. Suddenly, hate and vengeance flashed through her as she realized who it was. During the Republic Invasion of Dac, she had been given temporary command of an Imperial Quick Relief Force (QRF). Her mission had been to provide a rearguard for the failing Imperial soldiers and to extract and survivors, particularly Sith. Many Sith had been captured, and when Vinyata arrived she found that she was muched outclassed by the Jedi there. Despite this, she had attempted to rescue Marcus Faust, who seemed more contempt on making an epic last stand then living to fight another day. The Nautolan Jedi now falling into the gorge before her had nearly captured her, proving how foolish and weak Vinyata had been. She had barley escaped with her life and dignity, as the Jedi was intent on her defeat and brining her to justice.
Seems the tables are turned now b****. Vinyata thought menacingly as she continued to gather her dark side strength. The Jedi was leading the Republic efforts to overtake her Legions position, and if Vinyata let him live he could overrun her Legion and swing the battle in the Republics favor. Not only would the Empire loose valuable high-ground, their forces would be in position to getting flanked. And I will NOT let that happen. Vinyata thought to herself.
Running to the edge of the plateau, Vinyata threw her saberstaff into the air and somersaulted, catching the saberstaff and diving expertly head-long after the falling debris and the Jedi. Vinyata let the adrenaline and sensations of adventure and combat give her strength one last time as she readied herself for the upcoming duel.
Serpent Legion was fighting back ferociously. They were responding to the Republics renewed assaults on their positions with renewed vigor and intensity. The Republic and Imperial forces were exchanging ammunition at an unimaginable rate as the battle intensified ever more rapidly. The battle was reaching it climax, and the victor of the upcoming duel would win this sector of the battlefield, and would put their side ahead in the Battle for Korriban.
Using the force, Vinyata transferred her energy into the ground as she landed with one knee bent, the other on the red rocky canyon floor, and her arms at her side. Vinyata rose menacingly and powerfully, slowly and deliberately. She twirled her saberstaff with finesse in her right hand and activated it, purple blades flashing as lightning coursed up and down them. She glared at the green Jedi 50 feet away who was slowly recovering from his fall, her yellow eyes burning with passion.
As he caught sight of her, she said “Hello there.” seductively and murderously. This duel would be truly epic.
