Spare Time? What's That?

Kay-Larr

Kay could have healed herself, but she didn't want many to know of her secret. Word can get around pretty fast in politics. And like a handful of feathers blown away in the wind, such gossip can spread.

She lay in the bed with a cool gel pack on her head, unable to fall asleep. Or rather she wasn't allowed to. A medic droid watched over her and would ask her stupid questions everytime her eyes appeared to droop. At least she coukd drink tea.

Of course Kay had no idea that [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] was nearby.

It seemed to be just a medical droid. No big, hopefully. And so, appearing in front of the end of the bed, Josh would casually wave toward Kay, smiling a tad.

"Hey" He would remark, letting out a breath. "You seen my robes? I kind of liked those ones" He would joke cheekily. "That... That was rather hairy. You doing okay, Kay-Kay?"

He hadn't meant to make her think he was dead, of course. Just fool the enemy into thinking they'd shot him. So he wasn't aware he'd likely scared the crap out of Kay.

At first she wondered if she was hallucinating. The sudden appearance of [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] was a bit unnerving. But then he spoke. Her jaw dropped and she nearly spilled her tea all over herself.

"Joshua? How did you?...You're alive?...But...but..." Kay was at a loss for words. For once.

She seemed surprised he was alive, and he would tilt his head for a moment, trying to wrap his head around it. And then he seemed to come to a consensus, and would scratch his head, laughing a little with an embarassed smile. "I uh... Sorry about that, I hadn't meant to make you think I was dead" He would admit, letting out a breath. "I can... Turn invisible, temporarily, you see. And I wear armour, under my robes, that's incredibly resistant to blaster fire, with a material I found in a swamp years ago" Josh would explain. The Magnus Metal... Forged into armour, it had fared him very well in years past. It almost made it worth the ordeal it'd taken to obtain it. "When they hit the armour, I turned invisible and threw off my cloak, to see if I could trick them into thinking that they'd shot me down. When they were flying away, I re-appeared in order to catch them by surprise, and then I destroyed the helicopter. I'm pretty sure the assailant is still alive, but likely in custody now" He would add.

"Sorry again for giving you a scare" He would remark, biting his lip as he would place a hand on her shoulder. Of course, he didn't know that the assailant had committed suicide from a cyanide pill to prevent interrogation. "How you holding up?"

Kay just blinked as [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] told his tale about this skill that he had. It certainly was a good trick. She hadn't heard of anyone being able to do it before. Must be very rare.

"Well, you succeeded in saving my life, so thank you. I think that a headache and some bruises are a better alternative than being dead. Who would lead Commenor after me?" She frowned a little then as she thought about the assassination attempt. "I wonder who would send someone to kill me? It couldn't be the Cartel. They've always wanted me alive."

He smiled a bit, watching her worry trickle away at least. "It's going to take a lot more then a blaster bolt to kill me" He teased. The trick had been lost to time, it seemed, as he hadn't met someone who'd been able to do it in quite some time. Granted, he didn't use it much either. It was energy draining and he couldn't use it all that much for combat, only for hiding. Luckily, he was a strategic sort and knew how to use this well.

"Not sure who did all this though" He would remark, letting out a breath as he sat down. "Hopefully we'll find out more when they interrogate the sniper? The pilot died in the explosion but I recall the sniper still being alive."

Except he was wrong. The sniper wasn't alive. Not anymore.

Kay smirked as [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] teased her. It was his way and she appreciated it, especially while in this part of the Palace.

"I should get a report soon when they finish."

As if on cue, one of the guards stepped in and approached Kay. Glancing at Josh for a moment, he whispered into her ear. She frowned a little and nodded in thanks. While the guard was leaving, she sighed and looked her friend. The sniper is dead. They are trying to get his identity, but they are having difficulty." He could have been a ghost for all they knew.

Josh would happen to get his robe back from a passing worker, thanking them as he would brush the blaster dust off it, frowning at the hole in the fabric. "Guess I'll visit the Silver's seamstress tomorrow..." He would mutter. That was a pretty big hole. If he hadn't been armoured, he probably would have legitimately been space dust.

When the report came in that the sniper was dead, he frowned.

"Should have known he was carrying a pill. It's going to be much harder to find him now" He would comment, folding his arms.

Kay watched while [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] studied the hole in his robe. Almost as though she was reading his thoughts, she blurted out "That's a pretty big hole. You could have died if you weren't wearing any armour..."

She clenched her jaw at the current situation with regards to the assassin. "He killed himself for failing. Who would go to such lengths? Especially here? We're not that important in the Galaxy. I'm not that important..." She was sure that most didn't even know her name. Not that she cared.

He looked down at his hole, err, the hole in his robes again, and nodded his head. "Yeeeahhh... That probably would have killed me otherwise" He would admit. "Granted I probably would have tried dodging it if I wasn't armored. Or get out my giant glowstick that can deflect it. But who knows I suppose, right?"

Still, the question was... Who had tried to assassinate her? Well, a clear enemy of this government... Or an enemy of her, in particular, perhaps. "It's likely that they figured that they'd be tortured for information if they were captured" Josh would reason, letting out a sigh. "Some are willing to just die quickly instead of having to have the information tortured out of them. Or perhaps they feared retribution from their masters if they failed?"

Kay wasn't exactly without enemies, though...

Kay smirked. His glowstick. Never heard of a lightsaber referred to that, but it wasn't that far from the truth.

She nodded as [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] spoke about multiple reasons as to why the would-be assassin chose to kill himself. "Perhaps he was hired by the Sith. They can be brutal like that and some might not be happy about losing control of Commenor. Being a leader of a world comes with a lot of risk....I suppose that I'll always have to look over my shoulder for as long as I have this position."

"Wouldn't surprise me. The Sith are kind of petty" He would remark casually, shrugging his shoulders in turn. "But fact is, Kay... You're in a position of power, hun, these things are going to happen."

He let out a sigh as he would look out the window. "That's... Just how things are. While there are people like that out there, these sorts of things are always going to happen. There isn't much we can do to stop that until there's no more of those kinds of people."

He would look back at her then, his expression had grown more solemn and serious throughout this.

"How fare your injuries?"

Kay nodded. What [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] told her about attempts on her life were true. It was bound to happen. It will always happen. Unless of course she walked away from it all. One of her bodyguards had suggested it. But who would run Commenor then? She would need to have that taken care of first.

But then she could always not run in the next election.

She looked to him as he asked about her injuries. "Manageable. I can't heal too quickly, or they'll suspect my abilities. So I'll just let them look after me. I'll probably be out of this wing by tomorrow."

He stared a hole through her in return, almost like he was insulted, or she was just being dumb. Maybe a bit of both. And then he let out a sigh and placed a hand on her.

"Bloody hell, Kay, they already know I'm a damn Jedi, you should have asked me to do it if you were so worried" He would remark, shaking his head as he would begin to heal her himself. "All you had to do was ask, geez. I wasn't going to say no when you were hurt" He would add.

He wasn't mad at her. Just irritable that she'd let herself stay wounded this long when he could have helped.

Kay swallowed as [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] just stared her down. What was she missing? Then he placed his hand on her and she knew. He knew how to heal too.

She closed her eyes and sighed as she felt the Force do it's work on her injuries, causing the swelling to go down and alleviate the pain.

"I'm sorry. I forget. It's not like I'm used to being around healers, let alone other Force users."

"Geez... You're going to be the death of me, one day" He would remark, shaking his head. She had been injured, and had a healer nearby since she wasn't going to heal herself. Come on now. Josh would shake his head, letting out a sigh. "Bloody hell..."

As he would finish the job, he would just stare at her. "You still knew though" He spoke flatly.

Kay gave [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] a cheeky grin. "Isn't that what best friends are for?" Her grin faded though as he seemed really hurt by it. She didn't expect that.

Guilt hung over her now. Kay got up from the bed and then went to give him a hug, unsure of how it would be received. "I said I was sorry. Now I owe you one. And I certainly won't be forgetting that "

"It's fine. You've just had me worried sick" He remarked, smirking as he rolled his eyes and shook his head. "It's not like you've gone and become a Sith or something stupid like that. Geez, imagine" He added, laughing a little bit in turn. Best friends, he hadn't really considered what they were before... But the term fit them. Fit their relationship, fit all they had been through, fit, well... Them.

Honestly, he'd have totally asked her out if he hadn't been in a relationship himself, but that was neither here nor there. The reality was, he considered Kay a close friend, and he was happy to have her. And certainly hoped he didn't lose her. He would respond to the hug with a light smile, and wrapped his arms around her gently, but firmly. Not too hard, knowing she was likely still sore, but a firm tightness to it that generally conveyed a sense of warmth and trust.

Kay smirked and then laughed at the Sith comment. She closed her eyes as she rested her chin on his shoulder. "Don't worry. I'm too nice to be a Sith. Of course if you take away my tea....I would probably become a real monster."

She grinned as she pulled out of the hug. "Don't you go turning into Sith either."

[member="Joshua DragonsFlame"]

"I'll keep that in mind" Josh would crack in turn as he would tighten his grip just a tiny bit. Not enough to harm her, no, but enough for the unreal amount of body heat he gave off to embrace her.

As she pulled out of the hug, he would smirk at her comment. "Trust me, Kay, if one of us is going to turn first, it's going to be you" He would joke, chuckling as he would playfully boop her nose.

They'd taken so much from him, joining them seemed... Well, it wasn't even taboo in feeling. Not that addicting, curiosity spurning sort of taboo that drew people in... It was just flat out stupid.

"But..." He began, his tone becoming somber ever so slowly. "I... I hope you never do. I care about you, Kay... A lot. I... I don't know what I'd do if I lost you."
