She’d promised her Padawan a new crystal too, and despite the potential of First Order hostiles, she had decided this was an ideal opportunity for him to combine a little practical application of what he’d learned with a crystal hunt.

She’d shared the coordinated with him and also the fact she expected him to make his own way there. So she hoped that by the time she arrived, he’d be there too.

As she travelled, the fresh air was having a positive impact on her head. As she connected deeply with the Force the after effects of the night before dissipated and she was starting to enjoy the speeder journey as it snaked through canyons and into the foothills where the cave she had been informed of could be located. So she opened up the speeder's throttle and wondered just how fast this thing could go. She was, after all, something of an adrenaline junkie.

Alpha turned slowly, scanners instantly identifying his opponents face, and whom he used to be, while he was receiving information on the face behind the warrior, his lightsaber shot from a hidden compartment on his hip. Reaching out to catch it, he activated the blade with a swirl and flourish. The glowing black of the blade as it hummed was an exciting start to what would be a climactic battle.

While the average Jedi would likely banter, chat, and attempt to make the other give, he knew already how it would end. Thus it was a simple decision to not say anything, nor give any sign of attack, as his brain launched out once more in the same attack as before: Neural Storm. Though it was temporary, the effects of the attack was enough to usually drive a fully grown man to unconsciousness or lying in a pool of their own vomit!

Stepping forward while concentrating on the attack, he awaited results...

Varus had become strong, the dark had fortified his mind, but it was his keen eye that kept him standing, but not without cost. The attack ravaged his rather untrained mind, and with one hand is he grasped his head as his mind became disoriented, his stomach churned and his vision blurred. Staggering back, his senses overwhelemed, Varus held down the contents of his stomach, but also he felt humiliation. The man had rendered him a wreck with a simple mental attack, and given himself a window to attack Varus.

But the Knight of Ren kept himself standing as the humiliation turned to fury, and the fury transformed into force of will. In seconds after this, the effects subsided and the First Order enforcer rose up to face whatever attack the Jedi wielding the peculiarly colored lightsaber was making next. The Jedi had landed his blow, but Varus would ensure it did not remain that way. He would balance the tables now.

The results shone brightly: his opponent had a weakness to mental assault. Something that Alpha was phenomenal with... Flexing his muscles, he let the Force bulk him up until his suit was to confining, only then did he lurch forward with his lightsaber swinging in from the right - his stronger side - while his left arm came in for a swift jab for the jaw.

At one time, Alpha had obliterated concrete with his Force Enhanced strength; the human bone though, was rumored to be as durable. Maybe it would be a bit less anticlimactic and would be dodged. Either way. He needed to assess his opponents limits, where his strengths and weaknesses lay - he was toying with his food before commencing the meal!

Now his foe came in close, that, that was a mistake. As the saber came towards him, Varus side stepped, the blade arcing past his body before his eyes snapped to the incoming jab. Quickly he batted away the strike with his free hand, guiding it away from his face, then moved onto the offensive. The armor clad Jedi had attacked with both of his hands, he'd sacrificed his guard in order to attempt to strike at Varus, he would pay dearly for that. Slashing horizantally the Ren cut at the Jedi's stomach viciously.

But his attack didn't stop there, as quickly as he'd struck, Varus let loose a blast of telekinetic energy. It wouldn't do much, it would simply create a gap between the two fighters allowing Varus the room needed to strike with his saber effectively. Without pause he assumed a dejem so stance and moved forward once again, bringing his blade down at an angle towards the Jedi, hoping to bisect him from one shoulder to the opposite hip.

That beam of light would swivel from left to right, going from [member="Jules Crux"] over towards [member="Jacen Voidstalker"] and back again. Well that was two NEW voices, and considering she was out here by her lonesome, a bit startling.

"Oh... Hi!" her singsong voice would float out, still rubbing the crown of her head where a new egg had bloomed in the wake of her hitting her noggin.

The ray of light would shine upon Jule's face, and Kaile would take notice of where the two were at. It was pretty dark, so it was hard to discern exactly how they looked like.

At the sound of footsteps, Bobo scurried up off the speeder, and along Kaile's arm. He latched onto her shoulder just under the curtain of her hair. His black beady eyes would peer warily from male to male.

"Just a bit tied up with this thing. Boy you startled me!" she would admit, but none the less shining a smile.

When Alpha's saber was allowed to continue past the man unhindered, it created a way past the next blow, in the fashion of the continued momentum leading into a spin. Dodging backwards, he managed to avoid the slash of the lightsaber. Caught at the last moment however, the telekinetic blow hit him, knocking him backwards.

Utilizing this momentum, Alpha pushed his hands along with his upper body backwards, performing an elegant back flip that ended further than he imagined his opponent had planned. When he came in for his overhand strike, Alpha easily had enough time to bring his own defense upward, stopping the attack in its tracks.

Next, he pushed against it, with all of his Force enhanced might. With even the momentary partial opening, it was enough, as finally he mimicked the same attack he just fended off. Considering the distance, it was nowhere near his strongest blow. Yet in such a small distance as this, with one's saber beyond the defense of an inside slice, it would show if this was where his opponent's true skill lay.

With the mind he possessed, and his unique circumstances leading to such a powerful connection to the Force, he always did his best to observe before acting. He did not wish to prolong a battle longer than it needed, nor cause irreparable damage without just cause. In this situation, he wanted to test where best to apply the finishing blow, nothing more.

What was Zak doing on Lothal?

If [member="Corvus Raaf"] had a credit for every time she'd probably asked herself that question, she'd have more money than... well, somebody. Zak didn't really know who. Jedi meant you were broke all the time, so Zak didn't really keep up with who had the mega-credits.

Which, how did the Jedi Order make its credits anyway? The Jedi Temple, the materials and construction, the power and utilities, the transports, starfighters, fuel for interstellar voyages... someone had to be paying the utility bills, right?

In any case, the young aquatic was in a business area adjacent to the Lothal spaceport. Sitting on the sidewalk, in a rarely trafficked area beside a small park, the boy faced the reflective glasteel windows of a business or office that was closed. The darkness and shade created a mirror effect, capturing his reflection as he stretched and moved. A HoloBoy Advanced was sitting on the ground, supplying music to the room as the boy warmed up.

There sure seemed to be a lot of air traffic, with the sky full of ships zipping this way or that. But the little Nautolan pushed those sounds and distractions from his mind as he straightened up, closed his eyes, and began going through several exercises in isolation -- moving a single part of his body in time with the music.

And when he had finished limbering up, then it would be time to dance!

Ben followed Dune a ways further into the tunnel system, holding the comm link that Taeli had provided for them in case of danger. Ben wasn't particularly worried. After all, he and Dune were together and there was no entrance into this system anywhere on the map except for the mouth from which they had entered, and that particular opening was being guarded by a Jedi Master and a particularly commanding Jedi Knight. What was the worst that could happen?

And then it happened.

As Ben and Dune reached a fork in the tunnels, Ben felt the pit of his stomach fall through the floor and into the depths of Lothal. His senses became hyper active, and he could hear a distinct humming coming from the direction in which Dune had not elected to lead the padawans. Ben knew what was happening only a moment soon enough. "Dune!" Ben leaped, tackling his fellow padawan to the ground just in time to keep him from being hit by a blast from an E-Web turret. Not only did they have company, it seemed, but they had fortified for an ambush in the linking tunnel. Ben did not have a chance to ask how the hostiles had gotten there; he simply acted. For now, they were safe behind a rock, but Ben--reaching out with the Force--could not tell who or what was firing at them. He lifted the comm link to his mouth. "Master Raaf! Come in, Master Raaf! There's someone in here with us! We need you to come to our location as fast as you can!"

Ben tried not to panic. He trusted his skill with a lightsaber, but he had never actually been in a combat engagement before. Ben and Dune had been on the same trip to acquire crystals for the construction of their own sabers. Now it seemed time to put the weapon of the Jedi to use. Corvus had said to Ben, "When a Jedi ignites his lightsaber, he must be ready to take a life." Right now, it didn't seem that Ben had much choice.

Ben's emerald blade sprang to life with the snap-hiss that Ben had come to expect as Ben stood and assumed the opening guard for Form V Shien. Instantly he was calm. He felt most at home behind a lightsaber. Shien was developed specifically for facing enemies with blasters. Since it seemed that this was exactly what he and Dune faced, Ben couldn't help but feel confident. He knew he could at least hold out until Taeli arrived to rescue them.

The caves ahead were dark. Ben knew not what he faced, but he was prepared for whatever came next. He took a deep breath and allowed the Force to flow through him.

The two Padawans were met by a large volley of blaster fire from the large number of B1 Battle Droids. The Count stood behind his lines, arms folded patiently across his chest. The T-Series Tactical Droid in command of his forces stepped forth. ''Sir, what are your orders?'', it said with curiosity. ''I will speak with the Jedi while our troops secure the Kyber Crystal. I hope to end this matter with little bloodshed, but if they make the situation difficult, then you know what to do.'', he said with a serious tone in his voice. Several more squads of droids passed behind the droids keeping the Jedi pinned with their blaster fire, heading deeper into the caverns to get to work securing the Kyber Crystal and preparing it for retrieval.

The Count stepped forward towards the ledge that overlooked the two Jedi, raising his fist to signal his droids to hold fire for now. He wanted to speak with the duo personally. ''You and your friend outmatched and outgunned, Boy, but I am not without mercy. Surrender now and you shall be treated fairly, no deaths need to occur here. This cave network is under control of my droid forces, with more on the way, and the crystal you seek is already more or less ours. It would be unwise to fight us...'', he said to Ben, gazing down at him and visually probing for any weaknesses....

The caves had given little to pause Belis’ advance.
He had rounded a corner at one point and ran into a female scientist bemusedly returning to the camp he had come through, she had not lived long past their encounter her body ripped by the lightsaber blade of Belis’ weapon of choice.

The rocks at this depth were starting to become slick, the moisture of a planets inner-layers dripping through the stone to create a glistening illusion on the sight, an illusion that under foot could prove hazardous without careful steps.
Belis had managed to avoid slipping as yet, his stance wider to allow a balance as the ground got steeper and more perilous.
He paused however when he felt something pull at his attention, something in the force that wasn’t apparent as yet.
He discarded the thought, carried on until it came again this time stronger than before and much less inviting.
It was a Jedi. He knew the light, what it felt like. While to a Jedi it was said to be warm and opening in it’s embrace to someone who was not of the light side it was opposite. He remembered how once feeling such a thing would have strengthened him, brought him hope.
Now it only brought him fustration, coldness and anger.

The area she had chosen to face him was what could be known as the gateway to the caves themselves. The places he had stepped so far was nothing but a pre-curser to the giant amphitheatre of life that he had stepped out into. Large trees grew in a nutrient rich soil that was touched by the sun as it rose high over a crevice above them. Several small streams flowed through it giving life to the small paradise deep under the cracked surface.

The force felt strong here, powerful and present. He wondered if this was one of the rumoured Nexuses that housed the powerful force energies that naturally occurred around the galaxy. Not that it truly mattered, it could all merely be a by product of the great crystal beneath them.
However a secondary task was at hand, the fiery red head that stood blocking the way.

“What is it with the Jedi these days?” Belis mocked almost casually as he stepped over a stream and into the general area of the Jedi. “You always seem to be stood blocking, always in the way.” His voice was a growl, mechanical and false.
The weapon in his hand however held no falseness to it, the dark hilt spewing forth a crimson blade with a threatening sound.

Dune was pulled to the cavern floor in the nick of time. The volleyball of blaster bolts flew harmlessly past and scorched the rocky walls. Looking up, he saw perhaps thirty or fourty B1 droids. Then he felt the Dark Side aura before he stepped out to speak to them.

As they scrambled back to their feet behind cover, Dune heard Ben comm Master Raaf but his attention was all on the human male who came forward. His hand unhooked his saber and he heard Ben's own weapon come to life a split-second before his own. The man's voice was calm and carrying, full of certainty. The voice of a man used to being obeyed.

"I'm afraid we cannot allow you to have the crystal," Dune made his voice carry and the calm tone belied the uncertainty he felt. He turned to Ben and spoke in a whisper "We have to fall back to the crystal cavern before they get to it."

"We will have to fall back slowly so Master Raaf can get here in time."

“Ho there!” Jacen called out to the slender male off to one side. “Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you,” Jacen said to the girl rubbing her head. There was a warm smile on his face as he slowly approached. He could well see how this might look to her. Two men suddenly appearing out of the darkness whilst she was stranded far from the beaten track.

“I was just exploring some of the caves down by the lake when I heard a commotion,” he explained. “Something up with your speeder?” he asked. Then he came to an abrupt halt. His smile stayed fixed, but his eyes narrowed just a touch. There was no Force presence from the girl. None. There were only two things he knew of that could appear this way: a Sith so skilled they could utterly mask their own presence; or a Yuuzhan Vong spy in an Ooglith.

Knowing that he was an appalling liar, he decided to follow the most straightforward course. Lifting his chin just a few centimetres he asked: “Why can’t I sense you in the Force?” Was he the object of an ambush instead? He’d just given away the fact that he was a Jedi, if the saber hadn’t already. Damn, but he needed to be more careful. He carefully appraised the distance between himself and the grease smeared girl. He’d met Yuuzhan Vong in battle before, knew just how quickly they could move. He pictured her dashing towards him and tried to imagine how much time he’d have to react. She didn’t look like she might be a Vong. Her figure seemed too slender and feminine for the Yuuzhan Vong females he had met. They tended to be squat and broad across the shoulders.

There were so many smiling faces, that Jules was getting very uncomfortable. The girl was obviously unnerved by men spawning from the grassy fields but trying to remain friendly, with a strange little frog-thing on her shoulder. The man, who upon closer inspection did indeed have a lightsaber, started friendly an tried to stay as such, but Crux knew certain looks. Experience and all that. Something was strung along in the air, something that existed beyond the faculties of someone untrained in the ways of space wizardry. It was obvious that the girl was the source of the man's newly found anxiety, and Jules took a little bit of a step back at that development. He was never keen to get involved with the business end of laser swords. Still, mention of caves did not escape his notice; so, in the interests of hopefully altering the subject enough to lax the tension in the air, he spoke up with a simple question.

"Caves?" he even added a little bit of a visible, curious perk, "Where are those at?" he shifted his glance between the girl and the man, trying to gauge the feeling in the air. If things went wrong, they would go very wrong very fast. The speed at which Jules would have to start running.

“Yeah, Reckon one of them valves must be loose.” she went on to explain, “Was aimin’ to fix it but the silly thing was fightin’ me.”

That’s when things got a bit more serious.

“Huh?” there was a bit of confusion on Kaile’s face, her eyes widening only to furrow. That flashlight went from Jules over to the grimy visage of the soldier. It was a rather odd situation to be, what with Kaile’s flashlight only granting a small sphere of illumination. One would liken it to be a campfire ghostling story turned to Rodian standoff out of the blue.

That flashlight went sweeping over Jacen like an appraising signal light. It caught the glint off his saber and then they both heard a small exclamation.

“Oh!” it was as if the realization finally hit her. “Are you one of them Jedi?” the question was asked with such innocence and sweet curiosity that one would be hardpressed to believe her capable of harming a Bantha fly. Granted, that was when the redirect of where them caves were at swung Kaile’s attention and her flashlight back over the Jules.

“They’re scattered all over the place.” she answered him with an afterthought, almost with the assurity of a local. “”long with them hotsprings.” down she went again head first back under the hood of the speeder, her flashlight getting poked into her mouth to hold while she went on to slip her hand back inside to check the valve.

[member="Kaileann Vera"] [member="Jules Crux"]

"Yes I am," Jacen said with a friendly nod. "I don't recall any hotsprings," Jacen said. "It was warm and wet down there, but not entirely pleasant. I've got a good entrance mapped out and some ropes already set out to get you down to the lower levels. Be happy to show you where I went in."

The girl had turned back to her vehicle, which made him twitchy. Was she going for a weapon? He couldn't sense anything coming off her, which he found quite disturbing. He walked closer, pulling a torch from his front jacket pocket.

"Maybe a little more light would help?" he asked her, shining his into the bonnet. He kept a few feet away, just out of arms reach. Once again, in a slightly hushed tone, he asked his question: "Why can't I sense you?"

[member="Jacen Voidstalker"] [member="Jules Crux"]

Sense me?

Well that brought a whole kind of interestin' images and potential suggestions. Oh he didn't mean it like that, but Kaile was an imp.

Amusement would shine within the depths of Kaile's big brown eyes, glancing up towards the 'Jedi' with a crooked grin. Devilry went dancing in her eyes as her free hand came up to pluck the thin flashlight from her mouth. In a similar manner as he had whispered to her, she ducked her head close in light hearted banter.

"Just what exactly are you proposing?"

Pearly white teeth would flash along the cheerful girl went back to sinking her arm deeper into the hood of the speeder. "Shine it right there will ya?"

Black beady eyes would peek out from her shoulder and glance up at the newest arrival.

Epic stare down commenced!

“Err…” Jacen floundered. Damn, but she had big eyes. Focus. She didn't even answer your question. She leant back into the speeder and Jacen looked back and forth as if his surroundings would answer his question.

The small furry creature on her shoulder eyed him suspiciously with jet black eyes. He moved closer a few inches to get the angle on the torchlight before coming to a sudden halt. He could have sworn the little thing narrowed its eyes. After a few moments of moved closer again.

“Right, can you see it now? Can you even reach that?” he asked.

Jacen was normally so assured in himself. He had led the charge up the steps of the temple on coruscant beside Aela Talith. He had held the line when the Final Order tried to take Sullust. At the present moment his mind was utterly incapable of forming a plan. She wasn't dread guard, he doubted a vong could pull off an act like this. Could she be Sith? It seemed the most plausible. He needed to think before she smiled at him again.

For but a moment the sabers clashed, sparking and buzzing angrily as the two blades, each a sharp contrast to their wielder's allegiances and as the Jedi muscled against Varus, he received somewhat the same response, though the Ren was careful not to overextend himself. He kept his composure, silent rage giving him power as he held the lock. Then he found him shoved back, feet sliding in the soil and watched as the attack he'd just launched was mimicked. To the untrained, having their guard down like this would've been a death sentence.

But Varus was not untrained, no, far from it.

With a simple flick the saber was now in a reverse grip and as the Jedi closed the Knight of Ren moved as well, the black blade striking against his own before Varus kicked at the outside of his opponents leg with force enhanced as he moved out and away, clearing the dark armored man by several feet before turning back around and twirling his saber back into its normal grip. Instantly he struck out again, his form aggressive and now growing more and more unpredictable, ever so slowly he edged away from Dejm So into Juyo. The first strike went for the Jedi's head, easily blocked he was sure, but instead of following through for a full strike he brought the saber back and struck again from the opposite direction this time with far more power behind it.

As soon as Tionne had spoken, Taeli had sprinted to the tunnel using a mild burst of Force Speed to race after the two Padawans. On her comlink, she could the sounds of blaster fire and them calling for help. Good thing she gave them the comlinks then, still droids could be a problem ... but only if the dark sider who commanded them was present.

The cave echoed with the sounds of blaster fire, but as she neared an intersection, she could differentiate the echoes and the source. A snap-hiss and her normal lightsaber ignited into two blades of purple amethyst as she burst of the cave, just as the dark sider finished asking for their surrender and she skidded to a stop with reflected blaster bolts pelting off her blades into some of his B1 ... obsolete battle droids.

"Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" Taeli said to the older man who was commanding these First Order droids. Honestly, invest in some new designs she thought. "Padawans, go after any that snuck past to the crystal. I'll handle him."

Once they skedaddled, she gave the dark sider her full attention and turned off one blade to bring her saber up in a Makashi salute.

"One on one, you win you get the crystal, you lose you retreat," she said from behind her purple lightsaber. "I can tell, even if you are a user of the dark side, you have some honor about you."
